I wouldn't try to disprove Sega was aping DBZ, they surely were, but to begin with it wasn't nearly very original what DBZ had to rip off from. The son Gokuu legend is THE pervasive fantasy setting in Japan, so a lot of the tone was typical in ALL Japanese media. Then there's Super Sonic, but that's also is arguable. Like, "yellow" is literally "kiiro" or "ki color" in Japanese. Any power-up is easy to signify first as a color change, and, the yellow color is about as obvious as blue electricity would be in the west, but we don't say that Sonic Movie rips off Back To The Future. They are just both examples of kinda going for the obvious thing.
In an old DBZ movie, there was a False Super Saiyan that looks kinda like Dark Sonic (darker hair/spines then the normal super form, blank pupils, very angry) as well as some "Rage mode" transformations later on

Janemba, would be the movie, and that "dark form" is indeed called "false super saiyan" or "incomplete super saiyan". The reason it exists are many, but that specific scene in the Janemba movie was just bad communication in the production, he was supposed to be a normal super saiyan. It was either that or they delibrately chose that so Goku wouldn't become ssj before his fight with Pikkon, I can't remember which, but the reason it was called false super saiyan is because Goku enters a similarly unfinished ssj transformation in the Lord Slug movie. However, not a single Dragon Ball Z movie (except maybe the Bojack one) is chronologically possible. All of them assume certain events in DBZ did not happen or are happening simultaneously, and Z Broly no diffs Cell, despite happening at the same time and Goku killing Broly with a mini spirit punch

Sorta late, but Namekians and Echidnas are EXTREMELY similar. Two tribal races, both the soul protector of 7 mystical items, and only one member of their race is still on earth today and a part of the main cast.

Im kinda disapointed, because none of those things were obscure except the eye thing. I was hoping to hear some new points but those that you spoke about in this video are brought up in every discussion regarding the two series. That along with things like amy being chi chi, the babylon rouges being the androids, the super emeralds being the parallels to the namekian dragon balls, the hyper form being a reference to KaioKen x100 / super sayian 2 etc.
You know, there have actually been several what ifs of What if the Sonic universe and the Dragon Ball universe were one universe. I’m even making my own one.
In Sonic Adventure when you charge up the light dash and Sonic glows blue that always reminded me of the Kaioken. I guess it works considering it upgrades during the game into a fast attack.

At least there's that fan radio drama Sonic and Tails R - featuring Ryan Drummond and Mike Pollock - that bring them back, and put importance on them for the first time since Unleashed. Yes they were also in Generations, but that barely had a plot, being instead more focused on being a greatest hits. In Night of The Werehog, Sonic is already on the ground in one scene, but transforms into the Werehog by looking at the moon. Continuity error maybe, but still a connection to Saiyans and the Great Ape form they unwillingly change into.

Like you, I am a big fan of both the Sonic franchise AND the Dragonball franchise since my childhood years. Also like you, the Sonic franchise and the Dragonball franchise influenced my art as a child. Furthermore, there was another obscure similarity between the Sonic franchise and the Dragonball franchise that you didn't mention in this video and that similarity is that Freeza in his first form travels in a flying machine similar to the flying machine that Eggman travels in (especially in the classic Sonic games for the Sega Genesis).
The first time I seen Dragon Ball Z I have noticed the smaltites with Sonic the Hedgehog, granted Dragon Ball came out before Sonic but you know. Because Sonic is compared to Dragon Ball I thought that Sonic works better as a Shonen series rather than have JRPG and Saturday Morning Cartoon plots, One of My favorite Sonic fans animation is Sonic Nazo Unleashed and how Chakra X took inspiration from Dragon Ball and applied it to Sonic such as the fast pace combat and the fact that Sonic and Shadow can fuse into Shadic. Here's a bit of fun fact The Character Monkey Khan/Ken Khan from the Archie comics is based off of Sun Wukong and Dragon Ball was a huge inspiration from Journey to the West.

Very similar to DBZ, they only use the Dragon Balls as a plot device in specific arcs, not all. Seems lately both series have been trying to get away from having to use them in their stories.

I like pointing out Neo Metal Sonic and Cell, and even Heroes and the Android+Cell Saga as a whole. Metal scans and copies the abilities of Sonic, Shadow, and Chaos (through Froggy and Chocola), and Cell was created with the DNA of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Freeza. Both were created by archetypical mad scientists to be their ultimate creations, and while it was a different creation for Gero, both were betrayed by their own creations. Hell, both Metal Overlord and Super Perfect Cell couldn’t be defeated by the protagonist by themselves, with Super Sonic needing Tails and Knuckles while Gohan was stalemating against Cell until not only Goku’s otherworldly motivation, but Cell getting distracted momentarily by Vegeta during the Kamehameha clash.
Sonic is the 3rd party franchise to need another representative. There are 3 possible characters to become fighters: Shadow, Tails, Dr. Eggman. In my opinion it should be Shadow to break the (-) stigma on Sonic as campy & annoying playstyle. To also break the mold of having TWO spin dashes (just why did they do this?). We see a patern in Fighters Pass 2, that the characters are from the same company from Fighter Pass 1. We have Nintendo with Byleth & Min Min. We have Microsoft with Banjo & Steve. We have Squire Enix with Hero & Sepiroth. Now we three slots left. So far the two other companies Altus & SNK & third slot for fan favorite. Joker from Persona franchise which is owned by Altus franchise which is also owned by Sega. So Sega can add another Sonic representative in Smash. Shadow can be added in a way that Sakurai tells us the Assist Trophy Shadow is a "Shadow Android" & gives the possibility for the real Shadow to be playable. I think Shadow should be the one to break the Assist Trophy "fan rule". Shadow can be sort of a mix between Sonic & Mewtwo with a hint of EDGE to the hog. A character who is nearly as fast as Sonic with Chaos powers that can teleport, throw projectiles, can even create a huge explosion (Chaos Blast). This time Sakurai needs to bring moveset from SONIC BATTLE to Shadow's moveset. Make people appreciate the Sonic Franchise. Not to mention that Sonic's 30th anniversary is right around the corner. What better way to celebrate than to bring in "The ULTIMATE LIFEFORM" in Smash Ultimate.
Another obscure parallel is that shadow and vegeta were characters that were supposed to die at the end of their arc but because of their popularity, they remained

Both of then involve a major character being deaged into a child (Chris in Sonic X and Goku in Dragon Ball GT), both involve the cast being forced to go to space in order to recover macguffins (chaos emeralds and planet egg in Sonic X, black star dragon balls in Dragon Ball GT) and both involve a new ally who turns out to be connected to a major enemy faction (Cosmo being connected to the Metarex in Sonic X, Giru being connected to the Machine Mutants in Dragon Ball GT).

I think sonic is like burter because there both fast and there blue, I also thought that knuckles was more like vegeta because at one point they worked for a evil tyrant (Frieza/Eggman) but then they became good guys, and shadow being like piccolo because they were "Made" by there... Which "Assist Trophy" character deserves to be the fighter? It's either between Waluigi or Shadow. Honestly Shadow the Hedgehog has a much better moveset potential over Waluigi. Not to mention that Shadow is much more important than Waluigi in the role of his franchise. I need to relive the moments of Super Mario Bro Z with all the main characters including the Ultimate Lifeform to be a part of the ULTIMATE SMASH BROS. The ULTIMATE LIFEFORM should be the one to break "fan rule" of Assist Trophy being upgraded in the same game.
I suppose Cell and Metal Sonic are similar. Both were built to kill the main protagonist, they can use techniques/abilities of the other characters. Not to mention that they also have multiple forms.
Metal Sonic can also “copy” data or absorb data from the others similar to how Cell absorbed bio-extract from humans in DBZ and became stronger from absorbing the Androids, yes. Then there’s the obvious similarity between Perfect Chaos and Perfect Cell, and Cell/Chaos in general with multiple forms being revealed after they absorb something (Emeralds/Androids).

Not as much comparison as to dragon ball but there can be funny references if you wanna call them that you can some what point out Zelda in sonic. Sonic unleashed released not long after Zelda twilight princess where they both turned to wolves. Princess Elise is zelda. Sonic and the black night duh. Sonic rush adventure where it can either be like Zelda wind waker or links awakening since they both involve exploring an island/islands in the ocean. Yes, sonic and tails were stranded in one of the islands just like link and had boats to explore the ocean. Rush adventure came out somewhat soon after wind waker. Sonic frontiers which is like botw. Also links corrupted hand from the botw sequel and Sonic’s corrupted hand in frontiers. And there was this very very vague one where in a dlc in sonic lost world, sonic was wearing a green outfit which was very hard to tell but it looked similar to links outfit. Yeah, very vague, only 0.1% of people notice
I'm more of an One Piece guy. DBZ was before my time and I haven't got around to reading it yet. Sadly, there aren't many, if any parallels between my babies beyond basic Shonen tropes. (My friends and I joke about how Knuckles, Zoro, and Akihiko from Persona 3 are basically the same dude, but none of us actually think that.)
Dont forget that when it comes to transformations in dragon ball they can transform whenever they want, but in sonic they need the power of chaos energy/emeralds. The thing that I feel is different from the two is the importance of their mcguffins in their universes, in Dragon Ball the dragon balls barely play an important role in the stories and has a bit of an unbalance and focuses more on Goku if anything and his journey to obtain power/get stronger, as to where Sonic's is a little more balanced as the chaos emeralds/Master Emerald help the series from leaning into power creep which is what dragon ball has done and the maximum source of power is chaos energy which is what the emeralds have so in turn it basically forces the characters to embrace and stick to their unique skill sets and abilities they have and doesn't make a character more powerful than any other unless they are able to obtain chaos energy, mostly being through the emeralds, which is why I grew to respect Sonic for. Also transformations in Dragon Ball are a permanent given transforms, as transformations in Sonic are temporary

This is kind of off-topic, but actually Sonic Adventure 2 was not inspired by shonen manga like Dragonball, but a shoujo manga, Please Save My Earth.

There will be a couple risque ads, but you can find all things dragon ball on it. If you prefer sub, you can watch it in sub, and vice versa. Once you've finished that, watch Z. It recently was put on Hulu, but if you don't have that, or aren't in Japan, you can find it on 9anime. Dragon Ball Super is there too.

In Sonic Adventure when you charge up the light dash and Sonic glows blue that always reminded me of the Kaioken. I guess it works considering it upgrades during the game into a fast attack.
Chaos Emeralds - and Super Sonic - being tied to the plot... remember when that was a thing? At least there's that fan radio drama Sonic and Tails R - featuring Ryan Drummond and Mike Pollock - that bring them back, and put importance on them for the first time since Unleashed. Yes they were also in Generations, but that barely had a plot, being instead more focused on being a greatest hits. There was also this I remember seeing that shows the Black Goku arc from Dragon Ball Super is basically just Sonic 06

In Night of The Werehog, Sonic is already on the ground in one scene, but transforms into the Werehog by looking at the moon. Continuity error maybe, but still a connection to Saiyans and the Great Ape form they unwillingly change into.

Like you, I am a big fan of both the Sonic franchise AND the Dragonball franchise since my childhood years. Also like you, the Sonic franchise and the Dragonball franchise influenced my art as a child. Furthermore, there was another obscure similarity between the Sonic franchise and the Dragonball franchise that you didn't mention in this video and that similarity is that Freeza in his first form travels in a flying machine similar to the flying machine that Eggman travels in (especially in the classic Sonic games for the Sega Genesis).

The first time I seen Dragon Ball Z I have noticed the smaltites with Sonic the Hedgehog, granted Dragon Ball came out before Sonic but you know. Because Sonic is compared to Dragon Ball I thought that Sonic works better as a Shonen series rather than have JRPG and Saturday Morning Cartoon plots, One of My favorite Sonic fans animation is Sonic Nazo Unleashed and how Chakra X took inspiration from Dragon Ball and applied it to Sonic such as the fast pace combat and the fact that Sonic and Shadow can fuse into Shadic.
Here's a bit of fun fact The Character Monkey Khan/Ken Khan from the Archie comics is based off of Sun Wukong and Dragon Ball was a huge inspiration from Journey to the West.

I like how pretty much the only sonic games that use choas emeralds as a main story point is sonic 3 and knuckles. Sonic adventure 2(and 1), sonic 02, and sonic unleashed. Every other sonic game is just like. WHATS A CHOAS EMERALD AGAIN
Very similar to DBZ, they only use the Dragon Balls as a plot device in specific arcs, not all. Seems lately both series have been trying to get away from having to use them in their stories.

I like pointing out Neo Metal Sonic and Cell, and even Heroes and the Android+Cell Saga as a whole. Metal scans and copies the abilities of Sonic, Shadow, and Chaos (through Froggy and Chocola), and Cell was created with the DNA of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Freeza. Both were created by archetypical mad scientists to be their ultimate creations, and while it was a different creation for Gero, both were betrayed by their own creations. Hell, both Metal Overlord and Super Perfect Cell couldn’t be defeated by the protagonist by themselves, with Super Sonic needing Tails and Knuckles while Gohan was stalemating against Cell until not only Goku’s otherworldly motivation, but Cell getting distracted momentarily by Vegeta during the Kamehameha clash.
The background music just gives me nostalgia overload.
Sonic is the 3rd party franchise to need another representative. There are 3 possible characters to become fighters: Shadow, Tails, Dr. Eggman. In my opinion it should be Shadow to break the (-) stigma on Sonic as campy & annoying playstyle. To also break the mold of having TWO spin dashes (just why did they do this?).
We see a patern in Fighters Pass 2, that the characters are from the same company from Fighter Pass 1. We have Nintendo with Byleth & Min Min. We have Microsoft with Banjo & Steve. We have Squire Enix with Hero & Sepiroth. Now we three slots left. So far the two other companies Altus & SNK & third slot for fan favorite.
Joker from Persona franchise which is owned by Altus franchise which is also owned by Sega. So Sega can add another Sonic representative in Smash.
Shadow can be added in a way that Sakurai tells us the Assist Trophy Shadow is a "Shadow Android" & gives the possibility for the real Shadow to be playable. I think Shadow should be the one to break the Assist Trophy "fan rule".
Shadow can be sort of a mix between Sonic & Mewtwo with a hint of EDGE to the hog. A character who is nearly as fast as Sonic with Chaos powers that can teleport, throw projectiles, can even create a huge explosion (Chaos Blast). This time Sakurai needs to bring moveset from SONIC BATTLE to Shadow's moveset. Make people appreciate the Sonic Franchise.
Not to mention that Sonic's 30th anniversary is right around the corner. What better way to celebrate than to bring in "The ULTIMATE LIFEFORM" in Smash Ultimate.

Both of then involve a major character being deaged into a child (Chris in Sonic X and Goku in Dragon Ball GT), both involve the cast being forced to go to space in order to recover macguffins (chaos emeralds and planet egg in Sonic X, black star dragon balls in Dragon Ball GT) and both involve a new ally who turns out to be connected to a major enemy faction (Cosmo being connected to the Metarex in Sonic X, Giru being connected to the Machine Mutants in Dragon Ball GT).

I suppose Cell and Metal Sonic are similar. Both were built to kill the main protagonist, they can use techniques/abilities of the other characters. Not to mention that they also have multiple forms.
Metal Sonic can also “copy” data or absorb data from the others similar to how Cell absorbed bio-extract from humans in DBZ and became stronger from absorbing the Androids, yes.
Then there’s the obvious similarity between Perfect Chaos and Perfect Cell, and Cell/Chaos in general with multiple forms being revealed after they absorb something (Emeralds/Androids).

Dr Myu from dragon ball gt is pretty similar to Dr Eggman from the sonic series. Both are evil scientist with similar moustaches who build robots.
Dr. Gero would be a better parallel to the Robotniks (Gerald, Ivo) than Myuu.

Not as much comparison as to dragon ball but there can be funny references if you wanna call them that you can some what point out Zelda in sonic. Sonic unleashed released not long after Zelda twilight princess where they both turned to wolves. Princess Elise is zelda. Sonic and the black night duh. Sonic rush adventure where it can either be like Zelda wind waker or links awakening since they both involve exploring an island/islands in the ocean. Yes, sonic and tails were stranded in one of the islands just like link and had boats to explore the ocean. Rush adventure came out somewhat soon after wind waker. Sonic frontiers which is like botw. Also links corrupted hand from the botw sequel and Sonic’s corrupted hand in frontiers.
And there was this very very vague one where in a dlc in sonic lost world, sonic was wearing a green outfit which was very hard to tell but it looked similar to links outfit. Yeah, very vague, only 0.1% of people notice

Sadly, there aren't many, if any parallels between my babies beyond basic Shonen tropes.
(My friends and I joke about how Knuckles, Zoro, and Akihiko from Persona 3 are basically the same dude, but none of us actually think that.)

Dont forget that when it comes to transformations in dragon ball they can transform whenever they want, but in sonic they need the power of chaos energy/emeralds. The thing that I feel is different from the two is the importance of their mcguffins in their universes, in Dragon Ball the dragon balls barely play an important role in the stories and has a bit of an unbalance and focuses more on Goku if anything and his journey to obtain power/get stronger, as to where Sonic's is a little more balanced as the chaos emeralds/Master Emerald help the series from leaning into power creep which is what dragon ball has done and the maximum source of power is chaos energy which is what the emeralds have so in turn it basically forces the characters to embrace and stick to their unique skill sets and abilities they have and doesn't make a character more powerful than any other unless they are able to obtain chaos energy, mostly being through the emeralds, which is why I grew to respect Sonic for. Also transformations in Dragon Ball are a permanent given transforms, as transformations in Sonic are temporary
