We were taught at our vet to soak a square gauge with the solution, squeeze a little in the canal then put it in there and massage like you were. Then take it out and it's done. No leaking or mess.
Awww, Gus is absolutely adorable! As I've mentioned before, I grew up with two Danes. The funny thing is, although my mother was the alpha dog for them, I was the only one they let clean their ears :) It became a Sunday ritual after a good day out in the countryside! Love your vids! All the best!
Wasn't subscribed :/ Thanks for the reminder I always trust the suggested videos to know what I've watched and what im interested in Which is how I'm watching I get so engrossed on.the content I forget Subscribing is even a thing
I love your vids. I am planning on getting a great dane rescue pretty soon. Gus is such a sweetie. You are in Colorado tho, I just moved to Denver. If youd like to do a vid with a rescue dane I would totally be down. I am talking to big dogs giant paws right now.
I just got a 12-month-old Dane from a rescue, he let me do the nails the brushing but the ears this is a real big mess I think, no I'm sure he recognizes the cleaning solution bottle and after that the challenge start. We the 2 of us between holding him and put the solution in his ears, I am amazed by your dog Gus so calm and relaxed, anyway, we love him and we keep on trying. Thank you for a great video. BTW you have a new subscriber.
Hi Gus and family, I was hoping you could give us some suggestions on the type of products you use. Like toys, treats, food etc... My two 10 month old Dane's are chewers, they destroy all their tops within the first hour or two. They rip and eat it as well including blankets, beds all of their stuff. My male Sancho actually ripped apart a toddler crib down to the springs in half an hour when he was only 4 months. Thanks for any advice.
Going thru same issues right now w ours. so glad im not only one Definately going to watch that video ItsGwendolina recommended , sounds like perfect timing for it thanks Great Dane Fam !
Hi Jackie, you can take a look at our article here for a list of all recommended items - greatdanecare.com/buyers-guide/ . The puppy phase can be tough we're they're going through teething and learning how to play with their humans but I promise they'll get past it!
When my Great Dane was teething and just had a lot of puppy energy we gave him RedBarn bully sticks. They’re great for them to chew on. Saved our wood coffee table that he liked to munch on 😅 also RedBarn I have found is the least smelly, which is always a bonus.
Awesome vid. You may want to leave out music. Your instruction is all that's needed, and you are so professional! Gus of course, is a star!! Just love her. Ps. Why hasn't this vid been watched by tens of thousands??? Every dog parent needs this info.
I get tired of hearing my voice on its own, hence the music 😉 Agreed that Gus is definitely the star of the channel! Tell your friends so more watch it!! haha
Do you recommend any kind of supplements? My Dane is now 14 months and has just recovered from a sever strained tendon. Anything you recommend to help her while she’s growing and even after she’s done growing?
The most important things will be a good diet, rest, and reduced activity to let the tendons heal (which can take a while). There are some over the counter supplements that can help, but I'd recommend speaking with your vet if it's an issue.
Great Dane Care she has been resting for a week and on anti inflammatory medication from her vet. I meant for future. Do you use any supplements with Gus for health?
Hi, I'm new to your channel, so I dont know if all your videos have the music playing in the background or not.... first, i want to say your ear-cleaning video was very informative and i really enjoyed it! But... the music was kinda loud for me and that became a little distracting but it also made it sometimes difficult to hear what you were saying. Is there a way to maybe "mute" the background music?? My 4yr old Pitbull, Odin, and I thank you for making this great video and we plan on trying your technique tonight! (Wish me luck! 🐾 lol)
Our golden doodles ears are much the same and he also needs weekly ear cleaning. I’ve always saturated a cottonball for each ear and gently squished it around inside at the beginning of the cleaning. This looks so much simpler. Do you know if this method you’re using on Gus would be safe for my golden doodle as well?
I’ve never had a golden doodle so can’t speak from experience, but given that most dogs have similar ear anatomy I’d expect that it would still work great
Easy to understand and being able to view reality was so beneficial ! Please - What is the name of the ear cleaning solution ? DYI people suggest Apple Cider Vinegar - your thoughts ?
Great Dane Care Sorry to ask more ... to be certain... Epiotic Advanced is correct ? 8 oz about $40.00 CDN (inexpensive ?) In what quantity do you order ? At once a week - how long does it las ?
Just a suggestion, know you get alot of good comments on your videos, but they need to be shortened/condensed to a 1/3 of the time. It was close to 10 mins before you got into the cleaning.
My dog literally spazzes out the second any liquid goes in his ear. At 165 lbs, he is very hard to stop from spilling the solution. He's 3 years old.. I hope he gets more calm with this process as he gets older.
My Dane (Penny) has terrible ear issues. :( I only wish she "hated" getting them cleaned the way that Gus does. The last time I cleaned her ears was almost 6 months ago, and no matter what I do I can't get her to stay still, or not shake her head long enough to even put the solution in her ears. I've done everything, even super high value treats, and she still trembles. She just turned 2 years old, any suggestions on how to get them cleaned because they really, really need it when she is so nervous?
Have you watched the bath tips video? In it I talk about taking baby steps to get them used to the process. So for ear cleaning, try getting her comfortable with just seeing the ear wipes and solution, try massaging her ears with just your hands, etc... try to break all the steps down into small bits that they’re comfortable with, and then try going back to cleaning
I tried to hold my dog’s head this way but he was out to knock me out 🤣 I ended up having to lay on top of him and hold his head down to do this not the best method, but damn I wish my dogs were as calm as Gus
I’d like to suggest that you stop the music or turn it down majorly. It is in competition with what you are instructing and very distracting , even to the point that I want to turn it off. Thank you.

Do you mean Gauze pad?

Gus looked pretty co--operative with ear cleaning. She is easily lovable' !
Do you start ear cleaning from the beginning with a puppy ?
What food do you feed her to have that beautiful shiny coat? Love your videos!!
Wellness Large Breed! Thanks 😊

Great tutorial, she's such a good girl.
She’s a good one ☺️

Generally speaking no, we focus on her diet primarily.

I think Gus is mad because you keep calling him a girl lol 🤪 love your videos and helps me so much with my Danes 😊
We warm bottle in sink of warm water so not so cold when we put in her esrs😊
That’s a great tip! I’ll try that with Gus next week to see if it helps 😁

4:45 That cottonball bag must have sounded like a treat bag, :-p
My one year old male dane has acne. We're going to take him to the vet to seek treatment. I was curious if you have any experience with this?
Yes. I haven’t made a video on it yet, but you can a look at our article here - greatdanecare.com/acne
Could be he s alergich to nickel check h is feeding bowls
Poor sweet Gus, she is so cooperative, but looks so bummed for ear cleaning time!
What a sweet baby
Easy to understand and being able to view reality was so beneficial !

DYI people suggest Apple Cider Vinegar - your thoughts ?
The one I showed is linked in the video description. I don’t bother with DIY for ear cleaning solution when the real stuff is inexpensive
Great Dane Care
Well, look at that !
I didn’t know there was a written “Description” - I got hooked on your RUclips posts 🤣🤣

We like Virbac. There’s a link to it in the video description as well
Question??? I have 2 huge beautiful Danes... please tell me what is the best type of upholstery should I have ( they so sleep on the couch?

Noted. It should be much lower in any newer video!
