Agreed. And I wonder if that is part of the reason he’s emotional at the end…because he previously brushed Kai off for this and now, listening to it with an open mind, found it to be a very powerful song.

That line is " they say i got to learn but nobody's here to teach me, if they can't understand it , how can they reach me? " . you can see the gears turning, his soul welling up when he hears that cause its true. It so true. Its something spiritual🙏

This was my Dads fav song bc the lyrics were his reality and he never escaped Gangsta’s Paradise. He never made it past 50 yrs old, may he & Coolio RIP 😢
🤣😂🤣 I heard your Dad say the track didn't pump him up, which is true, it's a mellow track, but if you want your Dad pumped up play him any track from 'It Takes A Nation Of Million To Hold US Back'. Can't way to see him react Terminator X amped up production plus Chuck D and Falvor Flav energy blasting through the speakers! 🤣😂🤣 That would be fun to watch. 🤣😂🤣
I think he’s telling a story of what it’s like growing up in the hood. Becoming a gangster. People tell them they’re supposed to do better, but they don’t know what better looks like. They have no model for it. Everything is total chaos where he’s from. Your dad probably felt spent afterward, because that’s the feeling he’s conveying here. Like no hope of getting out.
It’s not just the hood. I grew up on poor neighborhoods in 60s-70s and my mom pointed out how many kids never went beyond 5-10 blocks. There were kids my age who had never been to the mall. My mom was a teacher in the head start program in area and she tried to expose the kids to as much as possible because many of them came from poor immigrant families and parents were working to survive so it was the streets raising the kids. The worse part is these programs failed because you can’t just throw money at the problems. My mom would make home visits and actually took interest in the kids. She would do the lunch like “family style” where the kids were passing the dishes and using manners of please and thank you. It was always chaotic at the beginning of the year but her kids usually went the furthest in school and would come back and visit her. What’s sad is she was criticized by many peers for actually giving a damn and wouldn’t lower her expectations or standards for them just as she wouldn’t for her own kids. As she said being poor wasn’t an excuse for poor manners, having a work ethic, nor applying yourself and doing your best. Being poor isn’t a crime nor anything to be ashamed about. It’s not expecting individuals to contribute to society or to behave with respect for themselves and others. I grew up knowing that being poor didn’t define you nor your character and still know many families who struggle financially but have far more good character than many rich people I’ve worked for. But the cycle continues with crime and dependency simply because we try and treat the issues with money (that is actually stolen and not used properly - and instead goes to pork programs making greedy politicians wealthier) and continuing with the lie that poverty is the cause.
@@carolynpeca2818 The way you described this is perfect and really hits where I feel it the most. I've grown up in the hood my whole life with a single mom, my sister, and me. One of if not the most underrated rappers of the 90s/2000s. And considering the fame he had that''s saying alot. I miss hanging out with his album playing. The chorus is almost operatic, you feel it as much as you hear it.
Dad mentioned being spent after listening to the song and I think I feel something very similar. You don't get a hint of desperation or seeking help from the tone of Coolio, but the lyrics tell you all you need to. He's explaining the desperate situation, the helplessness, the dead end he's facing. It's a selection between an absolutely awful choice and extinction and others who have had to band together and make that same decision. The situation is so overarching and overwhelming that a single person can't fight it and survival requires banding together with others to just simply make it through, to merely subsist. But, that wave is so overwhelming and crushing that, even with a band of homies, it's just enough to stem the tide, not to overturn it. I can only imagine the anger, sorrow and helpless desperation a person feels facing those odds.
Coolio got some bops, he's not a one hit wonder....just underestimated in my opinion. Love the content, it takes me back to mainly my twenties. Can you have your father listen to some more female rappers like Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott? And that's just a morsel of female rappers that influenced my life. I love the bond you all have! Love and light!
Another Coolio song your dad would probably enjoy is "C U When U Get There." I recommend the version from the Nothing to Lose Soundtrack. This version smooths out the vocals and it sounds great with the strings. ruclips.net/video/-e-ADY_witU/видео.html
It's amazing to see this reaction being that the man just passed away. To know that and y'all giving your reaction is greatness R.I.P to another Legend
Your dad is a legend. I love he's energy and he's sensitive 🥺 side... you 2 make me smile.. I get the opinion us oldies don't enjoy covers. I always love the originals and find it so hard warming to other artists singing them...;)
Love your dads reactions. Another classic song. Coolio was not a one hit wonder though. Had many great songs and was everywhere in the 90’s. Got into tv and movies too. Used to love that Keenan and Kel intro by him when I was a kid. Put respect on that man’s name
Trick Daddy- Thug Holiday... You and dad will thank me later brother.. Keep it coming love his open mind and how he keeps it honest with you on his views.. Very genuine🙏🏾💯
The song was on the sountrack of Dangerous Minds. So most of the shots in this video are from that movie. Not sure why they don't mention the movie. Because dad seemed surprised by seeing Michelle Pfeiffer. Love your channel guys, just discovered it today❤
I’m an old grandma and loved this song. The message it sent, Coolio’s performance was fantastic but combined with LV, it was simply beautiful. I still come back and watch the video often.
Great reaction. Love the videos too. Could you react to some more OutKast songs? A lot of their more popular songs have deep meanings behind the cheerful beats. Think your dad would enjoy a lot of their songs.
He’s not a 1 hit wonder! Don’t dismiss “1,2,3,4” or “Fantastic Voyage”! Rap artists aren’t “stealing” other’s music; it’s called “sampling” and the song is not sold if they don’t have the original artists’ blessings. If they do try to sell it then they get sued & ruined. Example, the band, The Verve got destroyed when their label lied to them & said they had permission to record their 1 hit “Bitter Sweet Symphony”. Stevie took 95% because Coolio didn’t even try to alter the music; he just rapped over Stevie’s music. The percentage was fair since Coolio did 5% of the work on the track. RIP Coolio
curious how come neither you nor your father managed to see/know the movie that the video is based of (or better say made for) hence thats why michelle pfeiffer
Love u guys, u're amazing❤! I suggest you to listen and react to "Introvert" or "I Love You, I Hate You" by Little Simz, but everything from "Sometimes I Might Be Introvert" is truly marvelous. Be well❤!
Coolio was not a one-hit-wonder. He had “Fantastic Voyage” which was a big hit, and “1,2,3,4” was not as big but still a hit. “C U When U Get There” was a moderate hit. All had radio play and MTV play and hit Billboard.
When tears comes to your Dad's eyes, I wonder what it is that's drawing them up? Maybe when you see that you can ask where those emotions are coming from and why
First of all : Steve nor Coolio knew this song was going to blow up into the biggest song of that year let alone the entire decade so that should explain the 95% Royalties right there & the fact that Coolio was cool with it because they got the rights for the song way before the song was even completed!!!!! Second of all : The amount of redemption that is in this song is out this world : "I'm the kinda G the lil homies wanna be like , On my knees in the night saying prayers in the street light"!!!! 👿🔥🔥🔥🔥 You have to do alot of really horrible things in order to cry over listening to this song or be a victim 💯 ppl don't realize how truly deep it really is cuz of how famous it is & the parodies made over the years & it's sad!!!! It's probably the most famous & by far the most iconic hip hop song in the entire history of rap music & in the Top 10 or maybe even Top 5 of every single genre of music ever made💯 especially considering how old it is & it's still just as big today & it was back when it first came out in 95' & it's the very first rap song to be Number # around the entire globe!!!! 30+ countries to be exact!!!!!! This song is the true definition of "lightning in a bottle" considering you can't hate or dislike that beat or that insane hook or the insane vocals or even the str8 forward lyrics & it's still the only 90's gangsta/conscious/rap Grammy award winning song with a billion views 💯 Actually two billion if u count the original upload on RUclips!!!!!!! & He doesn't curse or say the N word through out the entire song!!!! Name another gangsta rap song that can do that & go this hard????......I'll wait 💯 BTW I luv how your dad is still a OG enough to catch that bass line kick in which had such a huge impact on this genre of music but u didn't say nothing about it lolz & then , at the end of the song , he put his arms back behind his head like laying back on his bed & said : "it was great" & then smiled , like he just had the best "ear sex" of his entire life💯
Definitely not a one hit wonder get ur facts it’s sad that people think just because he’s not popping records these artists don’t deserve the same respect as those that do. Like 2pac DMX EASY E He never stopped art of writing his lyrics are phenomenal but he saved himself from the industry that keeps taking them down. It was the art Not the money 🙏Please show respect we’re it’s due it’s offensive to his fans u calling him a one hit wonder
With respect to Coolio he wasn't a One Hit Wonder. Another radio classic is Fantastic Voyage. He also did work with the group WC and the Mad Circle. This was definitely his biggest commercial hit though.
Michelle Pfeiffer was asked to be in the video because that was on the soundtrack of the movie that she starred in and you see clips of the movie throughout the video.
Coolio was a very "positive energy" rapper up until this point in his career, this was his first darker song which is one of the reasons it was so powerful, and since you guys were on the topic of rock and samples, Sing For The Moment by Eminem is a song your dad must listen to
This song makes me cry now... I knew my Dad got home from work by hearing this song play from our speakers at home down the road. I have his cd now. I have youll always be my baby girl tattooed on me now. Its what my dad wrote me in my 21st birthday card. In his handwriting. The movie this song was in was so good. That stars Michelle in it. It's why she's in the music video.
I was in 2nd grade when this song came out and me and another kid were rapping it and the teacher was like "what are you guys singing?" The teacher made us rap the whole song in front of the class 😂 and the class cheered us at the end lol
Coolio deserves to be remembered for more then just this song. I would recommend that you check out "C U when U get there", and "points". "Points" it's not a well known song, which is crazy, since the song has artists like Biggie, Busta, Redman, Coolio, Bone thugs, and more collaborating on it.
Hi, I love🤍 dad’s reactions. Stevie’s management probably advised him to take 95% 💵 of the revenues either way it’s robbery in my personal opinion😉 Sometimes the videos help tell the story, but let dad look at the lyrics if it helps him to understand the rap artist music 🎼
I love your fathers unfiltered love of music. So great to watch these videos and see his honest reaction for the first time. Makes me remember why I love rap music so much.
You feel drained bc its a song about the ptsd of living in the hood. Ptsd is someone constantly at a heightened state of panic and anxiety. There was a study that showed people from the hood suffer the same ptsd as solders in a war zone. That's why you feel this way.
'Never crossed a man that didn't deserve it'. That line hits hard when you mature and have gone through the pain, an accountability statement. Left his mark on us all with this song.

I can only imagine the anger, sorrow and helpless desperation a person feels facing those odds.
Yes exactly this. The energy of the song just goes right through you.
I recently thought to request MC Lyte - Poor Georgie. Something I was listening to the other day
R.I.P Coolio🕊
The fact he is in love with this is truly a testament to the purity of his interest. God your pops is the best man
Glad you guys reviewed this, especially now that he’s gone. RIP Coolio, this is definitely top 10 hip hop song of all time😭
Coolio is definitely not a "one-hit wonder." This might be his biggest hit. But he has other very good ones.
hes definitely a 1 hit wonder lmao. Go ask anyone, no one knows coolio but they know this song. Stop
He is not a one hit wonder..I like Girls.. 1234 ..see you when you get there..Vanilla ice is a one hit wonder
@@curto201 except old heads know who coolio is....
@@sangun123 And they only know 1-2 songs lmao
"one-hit wonder" it's the death of expression and the art, Please stop care about numbers...
Arguably the best rap song of all time. Timeless! A true classic. This is Coolio's true legacy.
That's a bit much. Lol
Another Coolio song your dad would probably enjoy is "C U When U Get There." I recommend the version from the Nothing to Lose Soundtrack. This version smooths out the vocals and it sounds great with the strings.

It's amazing to see this reaction being that the man just passed away.
To know that and y'all giving your reaction is greatness
R.I.P to another Legend
What an incredible man your dad is. So incredibly open, and so skilled at expressing his feelings and reactions. He gets it.
Rip Coolio. I will never forget the moment when I heard this song for the first time. I was in pure shock and awe. This song is a timeless classic.
All 🌲 of y'all. I ain't Gon say it no mo.
I could 100% see your pops bumpin this in traffic 😂
Trick Daddy- Thug Holiday... You and dad will thank me later brother.. Keep it coming love his open mind and how he keeps it honest with you on his views.. Very genuine🙏🏾💯
rip Coolio he passed at 59
just now (sep,29th,2022)
Your dad always points out something in the song that I’ve never noticed before even though I’ve listened to the song hundreds of times!
Dads perspective is everything ❤️
FrFr
The song was on the sountrack of Dangerous Minds. So most of the shots in this video are from that movie. Not sure why they don't mention the movie. Because dad seemed surprised by seeing Michelle Pfeiffer. Love your channel guys, just discovered it today❤
I’m an old grandma and loved this song. The message it sent, Coolio’s performance was fantastic but combined with LV, it was simply beautiful. I still come back and watch the video often.
50 isnt old ma'am
I thankfully got the opportunity to see Coolio live at a music festival.
RIP Coolio
I love how much your dad loves this, it just shows how genuine your dad is.
❤️
curious how come neither you nor your father managed to see/know the movie that the video is based of (or better say made for) hence thats why michelle pfeiffer
Because the movie was before the sons time and after the father's. Very good movie though!
Love u guys, u're amazing❤! I suggest you to listen and react to "Introvert" or "I Love You, I Hate You" by Little Simz, but everything from "Sometimes I Might Be Introvert" is truly marvelous. Be well❤!
!!! the album was phenomenal
@@gc7020 Definitely man!
I think he felt bad dismissing this song Early on when Kai was younger, idk just a guess.
His dad is him.
Lol but Fr maybe he’s got a rough past and the song spoke to him.
Lost my dad 17years back, feels real empty without him here! I enjoy your relationship with your dad. Priceless one
Name another gangsta rap song that can do that & go this hard????......I'll wait 💯 BTW I luv how your dad is still a OG enough to catch that bass line kick in which had such a huge impact on this genre of music but u didn't say nothing about it lolz & then , at the end of the song , he put his arms back behind his head like laying back on his bed & said : "it was great" & then smiled , like he just had the best "ear sex" of his entire life💯
Won Grammy for best solo rapper in "96".....And that was Ceelo Green singing the chorus!!
.... y'all keep surprising me! So many childhood memories from just the music that you keep reviewing.
It’d be super cool to see him react to Through the Wire by Kanye
With respect to Coolio he wasn't a One Hit Wonder. Another radio classic is Fantastic Voyage. He also did work with the group WC and the Mad Circle. This was definitely his biggest commercial hit though.
Now you and your dad need to watch the movie Dangerous Minds! Classic song and movie!
Please do Tupac - Shed So Many Tears
It also samples one of Stevie Wonder’s song. It’s a powerful song that I think your dad would enjoy.
Michelle Pfeiffer was asked to be in the video because that was on the soundtrack of the movie that she starred in and you see clips of the movie throughout the video.
The movie is transformative. Please see it. You will understand life in a very different way. Canadian Grandma Lori. C .
CLASSIC!!! Maybe you should try react on Luniz - i got 5 on it 💪 It will be fun 🤩
Rest in paradise, Coolio
If all us "fellas" had as much patience with our Fathers, as you do yours, the World would be a better place! Good job kid! (And Dad)
It's cool to watch people evolve and to see how much your dad really loves you
Coolio was a very "positive energy" rapper up until this point in his career, this was his first darker song which is one of the reasons it was so powerful, and since you guys were on the topic of rock and samples, Sing For The Moment by Eminem is a song your dad must listen to
This song makes me cry now...
Rappers also created second lives for many older artists. Record sales and tours.
I get teary and feel an unusual gush of anger and passion through my veins whenever I hear this song. This song is GOATed for life.
I love your dad! This channel makes me happy 😊❤️ thank you for all the love and respect you show for the culture 🙏🏼❤️
The song was used in dangerous minds, that's why she was in the music video. It's a great movie if you ever get the chance to watch it.
The fact that he was only 23 in this video was surprising.
Coolio was not a one hit wonder, he is a legend. May God bless him and RIP.
Hi, I love🤍 dad’s reactions. Stevie’s management probably advised him to take 95% 💵 of the revenues either way it’s robbery in my personal opinion😉
Sometimes the videos help tell the story, but let dad look at the lyrics if it helps him to understand the rap artist music 🎼
Dang I'm upset you called him a one hit wonder and said he's not respected outside this song. BRUH! 🤯 still a fun reaction 🤣
Definitely a Gen Z song of the 90s Nas, Coolio, Tupac, Ice Cube, Biggie, Wu Tang, etc...
Gen z did not grow up in this era... this is Gen x and Gen Y for sure
PLEASE!!! if you have not already, react to Tupac Ft. Elton John - Ghetto Gospel
'Never crossed a man that didn't deserve it'.
That line hits hard when you mature and have gone through the pain, an accountability statement.
Left his mark on us all with this song.
I bc remember when this came out and also the movie with Michelle Pheiffer “Dangerous Minds”
Coolio was huge during that time especially in the WC 🔥
