      It's also being Southern. There are some who would raise their voice, but in most scenarios, we do that quiet and firm tone that makes others hang their head in shame or look the other way. It's all how you project. And with certain Southern women, who picked it up from mothers and grandmothers, we don't play around with matters of the heart or what's right. Whenever I get mad about what I love or know what's good, I drop my voice and be sweet about it but also true. It's all how you carry yourself. And Sandra is Southern- so she knows how to drop and get the the point across while still being ladylike but also carry her own.

    This scene touched a nerve. Especially since you know Michael can't hurt a fly. Instead of them being racist about Michael, they should have asked about the type of person he is. Michael has always been a gentle natured person with a traumatic background. Just drifting from one place to the next. He never causes trouble no matter how bad things were on him. Then when he finally has a real family, he protects them. Ya know I can watch this movie over and over again and never get bored.

    At the end of the video when Collins went and sat with Michael, I just thought when you raise your children right, then you never have to worry that they won't do the right thing. It's easy to raise a smart child with all the computer programs and information and classes available online, or even with tutoring. But it takes a whole lot more time, effort and care to raise a kind child. One who will show everyone (people of all races, religions, and cultures) the same amount of courtesy, respect, understanding, compassion, empathy, generosity, care and kindness that they would hope to receive themselves.

      Yep - it was actually a valid point to make, if not for the unnescessary racist overtone she added too it. That's why she went back and ask Collins if she was comfortable. It shouldn't have had to do with race - any relatively unknown male in the same household with your teenage daughter should have raised the same question, black or not.

    • @rayloc420
      @rayloc420 4 года назад +7

      Race does actually matter given the times. These people probably don't experience much racial diversity. They probably keep up with current affairs as well. So, their limited exposure may be the crime statistics. Proportionally, they are extremely high. At this time, its in the past, they weren't necessarily being racist, they may have been statistical. People like the mom and Michael helped bridge the gap

Take it as you will, it has nothing to do with being sexist. I may not have kids, but if I did have a daughter, I would not just be cool with leaving her alone with a male. But i'm sure im somehow wrong so it is what it is.

    • @hmrhuang

      If you grew up with common sense about judging people's character, etc., then your Mom shouldn't have to worry about leaving you alone with other guys. If your Mom trusts you to make informed decisions about your (love) life, then she should trust your judgement when it comes to you meeting and dating guys. I understand most parents want the best for their kids, but that doesn't mean they're always right or that they always know what's best for you...

    That comment makes me sick. White people can do nice things for black people without it being a white guilt thing. Some people were born into good families and taught good values such as you treat everyone with respect regardless of their color. You help people in need regardless of their color. My daddy always said you treat the janitor with the same respect you treat the CEO with. No matter what color they are. If they respect you, you respect them.

      Randy Crager the sad part is it’s based on a true story. The one bit in the film that gets me is when he’s in his new room and he says “I’ve never had one before” and Sandra “what a room to yourself” and mike says “no a bed”. How tragic that something we all take for granted is the one thing a person longs for

His step dad kicked him out and when we found out our family opened our home to him. He is black and kind of the same situation as Michael Orr we helped him out. Just to be human being and not ask for anything in return. We wanted him to feel kindness and have a chance
