    "... the film belongs to Peter Cushing, and as such is a perfect swansong for his greatest creation." - britishhorrorfilms.co.uk
    Is Baron Frankenstein truly dead? That's precisely what he wants the world to think. He's had it up to here with a public that doesn't appreciate the trouble a mad scientist goes through to snatch good body parts. To carry on his work, he holes up in a place where the possibilities are utterly maddening: a home for the criminally insane! A hand here. A brain there ... true to form, the Baron (Peter Cushing) keeps his gruesome creation (David Prowse, known for his portrayal of Darth Vader) in stitches in this sixth and final fright fest in Hammer Films' Frankenstein cycle.

    The man that played the monster is David Prowse. David Prowse also played Darth Vader (not Darth Vader's voice) in Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, and the body builder in A Clockwork Orange. David Prowse unfortunately passed away in 2020.

    A pretty fitting end for the franchise and the studio, it was a bit dated for 1973 going over the same old ground again but its what Hammer fans probably wanted.

    I swear to God, the look of this Creature has got to be the physical inspiration for the evil lots-of-greats grandson of the original Quasimoto in the 1982 Hulk cartoon and comic it was adapted into.

    Loved this film! The first couple times I've watched it I get fascinated by the work relationship between the baron and his lady assistant. He has his secret addiction for cheating death by bringing corpses to life while she has her secret of playing mute. You can only go by what she says with her eyes like she's drawn to his surgical skills. Her one secret I felt like was her one weapon to survive that place cuz if he ever found out she knew it would be a possible threat.
    If ever a fan vid mv was made I would use the Aaliyah song Try Again for the two of them.

    This was a poor film yet paradoxically, this is was the perfect conclusion to the Frankenstein series. The Baron finally ends up in an insane asylum but instead of being an inmate, he ultimately became a prisoner inside his own mind.

    Looks great! Before movies became over-budgeted, over-produced, over-blown and over-exposed at the hands of Spielberg & Lucas, you had these wonderful drive-in films. They had a warmth, an atmosphere, an intimacy completely absent from post-"Star Wars" cinema. I'll have to check this out!

      It was quite good but the films Hammer made in the late 50s were the best, this one was starting to get a bit stale.
      The best Horror films of this time were probably the English Folk horror films, then you get younger more innovative directors making films like The Exocrist, Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre which were all incredibly influential and still shocking now.

      You can say that again. I moderately like Evil of Frankenstein, but I love Monster from Hell. It never gets the love that it deserves. It's a vastly underrated gem that has a poetically-philosophical, tongue in cheek twinge that just gets better with each viewing. I think it was a perfect way to end the series.
      I was REALLY hoping that this was the uncut version, but it's not. It would've been a thrill to see in hi-def widescreen. Oh, well. At least I have an uncut print on DVD. Ordered it anyway. I hope it looks pristine (at least as good as Lust for a Vampire).

      I'd have to go with The Curse of Frankenstein or Dracula. The Plague of the Zombies is worth seeing as an early example of the zombie film. This film just seems a bit dated now for the mid 1970s with its old fashioned music and static cinematography. Also Cushing looks jaded too, the wig looks awful. The girl in the film is very pretty though.

      Have you ever WATCHED ANY of the Hammer horror films? They are considered some of the BEST horror classics! What a shame. You are really missing out on the great masters such as Peter Cushing & ChristopherLee. I watched these as a kid & have come back to them as they contain REAL acting & what movies used to be until CG got a hold of them & movie stars had stand ins! This is a GREAT film! Just one of the brilliant Hammer films, look them up! I agree with GLC2013 comments above!

    • @lw3646
      @lw3646 11 месяцев назад +2

      @monamast9821 the Hammer horror films started out as fresh, shocking and innovative, they really moved horror on at a time when Hollywood was making mostly black and white more scifi stuff about giant monsters and the red scare, Hammer revived the gothic horror stories, shot them in colour and put in some violence and gore that was shocking to audiences back then.
      By the 70s though Hammer had started to become dated a bit, new younger horror directors were the ones taking risks and doing much more fresh and modern horror, Hammer were still making these 18th and 19th films on a shoe string budget, even some of the directors admitted the later ones were poor. They'd gone from leading the genera in the 50s to playing catchup, like their movie To the Devil A Daughter was their answer to The Exorcist. The early films though are still very classy and enjoyable though, the later ones are too camp.
