Finally, as expected, Brian nails what makes a Mazda so much better than a Kia Telluride or Hyundai Pallisade. The driving experience. Spot on sir. I'm going to let Mazda sort out the 1st couple of years bugs on the CX-90 before I pull the trigger on one. Until then, I'll be happy with our CX-5 and CX-9!
It really depends what your priorities are. Kia Telluride is based on Sedona minivan and still provides unrivaled 3rd row space, and also more cargo space with all 3 rows up. But nobody in their right mind would call the Kia a Driver’s SUV.
This is the 2nd review from you that I've watched, and once again you are pointing out stuff no one else is, like the 17 hp figure for that pancake electric motor. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this detailed, insightful review, Brian. One of the best car reviews I've ever watched about cars - and I've watched thousands! I've subscribed and turned on all notifications! And I'll be binge-watching your previous videos too. Keep it going!
I purchased a new Mazda 2 years ago and kept it for a year. I mostly appreciated the car, but not so much the dealer experience. The finance dept was not on top of things, and had to return to do paperwork 3 different times, and the service dept was even worse. There is more to being “near luxury” besides just the car. If Mazda wants to be seen as such, they have to have a much higher standard at the consumer level. BTW, I replaced that with an Audi S4 and had maybe the greatest car buying and service experience ever!
@@BrianMakse I agree…that’s why I ended up at an Audi dealer. Lol. Seriously though, a lot of smaller cities, only have 1 Mazda dealer. So even if I had bought somewhere else, I’m still relying on a subpar dealer to service the car.
I am waiting for cx70. But this shows the effort Mazda put in their vehicles. I originally owned MadaSpeed6 and absolutely loved it then moved to a mazda6 2009. Still enjoying it. Now I want something hybrid or plug in.
Brian at least a couple auto journalists have complained about the transmission being abrupt or not smooth at slow speeds and makes whining, unpleasant noises during hard acceleration. I’m wondering if you have experienced any of that.
This is where PHEV variant comes in. The electric drive smooths out the edges. The 4-cylinder is well isolated and only shows its tone at full throttle.
I bought a Buick Enclave Avenir Wednesday with a trailer package and Continental tires. Maybe Mazda next time after they keep adding refinement and luxury to their top end trims along with any engine/transmission tweaks.
Great review! It has great presence and a beautiful interior. I only wish the front had a little more sharpness and drama. It's a little subtle to me to be making a statement of intent and the lack of exhaust finishers instead of tucking them under the bumper! like a scolded dog kills me. Almost a home run!
Thanks Brian!!! I'm becoming a Mazda fan each time i get in one. I hope get a CX70 since I really don't want or need a 3rd row. I currently have a Mazda3 hatchback 6spd as a daily and plan to get a CX30 for my daughter
Thought about the CX90, but too many first year systems and components. Decided on the Pilot over the Telluride. Made the mistake of going into a Mazda dealership. Should have my CX90 by the end of the month. Mazda might have some bugs that need to be worked out, but the handling dynamics are amazing for this class of vehicle and at this price.
"Won't break the bank" meanwhile the average yearly salary here in Bulgaria is like 10 000$, I ain't ever affording that even in my dream. Maybe a CX-5 on leasing if lucky lol.
Very nice SUV, and great review. Apparently the timing chain (not a belt, right?) is in the rear of the engine a la BMW, so servicing that means pulling the motor 😞 Though I guess you could service the tensioners without doing that...? To be fair though, while I haven't tried to find the service interval for the chain &/or tensioners, the average car owner will have sold this and moved on long before there will be a need to deal with it. I on the other hand keep my cars for a decade or more (still have a 2001 Suburban!) so it matters for me.

@@BrianMakse the american and korean 3 row SUV´s have more room inside, they drive also good and they have also good engine´s and transm. Thanks, Chris. This thing is brilliant.
An inline 6 in this type of vehicle is extremely cool and refreshing in a sea of 4 cylinders and v6s
It's so good!

A very sharp looking unit with enough zoom zoom to keep up with the Joneses

I'll be picking this up when the CX5 lease is up. Gorgeous car and love that in-line 6
Excellent choice!

Is america getting the cx70? Is that the same cx60 that Europe and Japan has?
@@rrange It is suppose to be slightly wider and bigger than cx60. smaller than 90. it will be a north american model only.

Yeah, same question?
This is where PHEV variant comes in. The electric drive smooths out the edges. The 4-cylinder is well isolated and only shows its tone at full throttle.
I drove a production model and wasn't at the first drive event, which may or may not have had pre-production units. It worked great for me.
I bought a Buick Enclave Avenir Wednesday with a trailer package and Continental tires. Maybe Mazda next time after they keep adding refinement and luxury to their top end trims along with any engine/transmission tweaks.

Agreed, Tim. Can't wait for the CX-70.
Can you clarify what u meant by "slide this down a bit" when driving in snow? Are u saying it might not do well in snow? Thank you
I mean you can enjoy it more in the snow by sliding it around. Check our recent CX-50 winter episode.

What is the fuel consumption in liter/100km?
