- Its Gen 6 time! Pokemon X and Y were the first games coming out for the Nintendo 3DS, afterwards came the Remakes of our beloved generation 3.
But how will they hold up to modern shiny huting? lets take a look at the PROs and CONs of shiny hunting in this generation.
Gen 6 gave us plenty of new methods to hunt in, and thats a great thing. It introduced us to Chain fishing, to dexnav hunting, horde encounters and brought back the PokeRadar. Beside that, they dropped the shiny encounter odds down to 1/4096. If thats a good thing or not is up to you.

Wanna let you know latias/latios are not shiny locked! My first and only random shiny was the latias you get during main story. I was completely shocked because that is one that would take forever to soft reset for but a legendary as my first random shiny is pretty lucky.

Another con you could have mentioned is that the 3D models of the shiny pokemon often look more washed out and less vibrant that the sprite art of the previous games.
A good example of this is shiny Lanturn.

my experience was i was hyped i was getting so many shinies, but then it just stopped feeling special after getting tons and tons of shinies, now i stick to gen 3

I think a compromise that could be made that might please everyone would be if they showed on a shiny Pokemon that It was caught with a method or lowered odds etc.
Yeah like:
Full odds: Blue sparkle
Shiny charm/Masuda: Yellow sparkle
Chains/mini games/friend park...: Orange sparkle
Shiny charm + Masuda/Chains/mini games/friend park... : Red sparkle
honestly as someone who is usually very unlucky with shinies i kind of prefer the better odds
As a shiny hunter I think it's rather silly to bemoan the increase of odds as making the pokemon any less special. The fact you have to work hard to even earn those odds makes it an accomplishment whereas before you had nothing. This becomes an issue when you start to have 700+ pokemon (now a thousand). If you're completing a shiny dex, i'll see you in 60 years at 1/8000 odds. Shiny hunting by SR's at full odds isn't fun, across the board of players who prefer either or. Shinies shouldn't be "easy," but they should be "earned." If you get that feeling afterwards, then it's working. If you don't because you remember what you used to have to do, then that's more to do with feeling like your work was somehow lessened than it is a reflection of how good or bad a quality-of-life improvement is.
It is not lessened. Old full-odds are valued greatly for their work. And modern games aren't that much "easier," it took me 3 WEEKS to get shiny Guzzlord in Ultra Space. These efforts are unreasonable for the number of Pokemon there are.
Your trophy is what you make of it; Yours was on the quality of the one hunt. Mine was of the quantity I was able to get while still at full 1/4000 odds. And the difficulty of that should not be undercut either.
Completely get you here, feeling the same. I have hunted on both, original odds and the improved ones, and to this day I will regard the original 1/8000 mons as very special. Hunting on lower odds is fine, because in general obviously it doesnt take as long, but in tne long game, I am more proud of my "real" shinies, the pre gen 5 ones
Way too many Shiny Pokemon from the Gen 6 games to count, at least 1 boxes full if not more.
