As the season comes to a close we're looking into trying out a podcast-style video before the start of Season 2 and would love to know what you guys would be interested in hearing us talk about!
I would be interested in hearing you guys discuss an EDH or possibly cEDH-only banlist. Myself and others in my playgroup find a lot of the cards on the commander banlist to be unworthy and probably wouldn't hurt the game to be unbanned. Great content as always!
Casually Competitive MTG MVP was the right choice but Necro was LVP (Least Valuable player) he drew the same amount of cards in the end without it with the skipper draws and the loss of life got him killed.
While we don't like showcasing large misplays, we also see the value is showing and explaining the misplays for the sake of both learning ourselves and showing others some maybe not common interactions. The only super strict rule we have internally is that if the misplay drastically affects gameplay we will most likely pull the game, but other than that we are okay with keeping things a bit more 'realistic.' We are still working on a way to possibly incorporate a judge, but until then those are our general guidelines internally
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG What was the free counterspell that was available if Adam still had the mental misstep? If it was Force of Will, Bill might have lost because of that -1 life,or at least not have gone off.
I dont mind an occasional misplay. especially not if you guys catch it and not the´comment section. ^^ With so many players and cards involved its a normal thing that happens all the time on probably every Commander table. So you guys finding them and pointing them out is a great way.

The competitive meter is kinda hard to extract information from since most of the decks are like 80%, 90% on it. I would suggest a number out of 10 at the end so that we know where the deck lies. Also one number or meter doesn't always tell the whole story so I would love some more meters rating the deck on metrics such as the amount of interaction, combo/win speed or value options it has.
I'm loving these videos. I really enjoyed the walking through the stack and even the misplay. I completely missed it until you point it out. Learned alot from this. Keep up the great work

It didn't go well for our boy. I play 3HG commander, so we have 70 Life and I eat it all up, yum yum yum. But I play a lot of things and more often than not win, unless it's vs 3 mono blue in which case we never win.
It got added a few videos ago, I figured if I got annoyed / bored listening to myself shill out our Patreon then others might as well. A timer seemed like a good way for people to skip over it if they wanted without being too intrusive.
GRUUL SMASH! Ruric Thar keeping everyone on their toes. Also the death of a thousand cuts from Cindervines & Fate Unraveler was a beautiful thing to watch.
Wow! I had no idea that Grasp of Fate (and similar effects) work that way. My commander is frequently exiled by Palace Jailer so this a an important interaction for me :)
I had to pause the video there to look up the specific rules as well. Anything that doesn't say to return the exiled card (like o-ring does), works this way, where you can bring it from the CZ. Won't work if it's moved from the CZ afterwards tho, because then it's a new game object
I think cindervines is always good just because it's also interaction at the minimum. It's also not something someone counters early so if you drop it it's a near uncounterable removal spell while putting some solid damage along the way. I've always liked little threat cards like this or using mystical tutor for a force of will because then people KNOW its there and might just not play their stuff out of fear. Had that dampining sphere gone off this might of been a very different game.
Allow me to differ Casually Competitive MTG. Mana Vault deals damage during the upkeep... are Untap/Upkeep/Draw ALL included in the "Draw step" that's been skipped by Necropotence? (This is a legit question, I'm not sure now lol)
@@RobMedellin huh, I just checked, and it changes depending on the version of the card. The old version says that it is during the upkeep, while the new one (from Ultimate Masters) does it during the draw step. I've never noticed this detail before. So interesting!
That Inalla combo was really cool. At first I thought thats its A LOT of dead cards involved. But I guess if you can use the sac Rituals and the Reanimation spells effectively before the combo turn then its potentially a great package.
After watching the video and hearing you say that when a mistake affects the outcome of the game you might not publish the video I have this to say, you should publish the video and just make it clear in the title that there was a misplay. I see everyone asking about the mana vault trigger. But at 17:17 Nate puts Necro cards to hand and doesn’t discard down to hand size? I know it didn’t seem to affect the game but I’m pretty sure that’s how Necropotence works right? The cards in hand counter says he has 8 when passing the turn
Why didn't Bill have to discard down to 7 in each of his end-steps after the Necropotence trigger? Did he have an effect on the battlefield that gave him unlimited hand-size? Love the content guys, this channel single-handedly got me into cEDH. Keep up the great work!
As a bit of feedback, I would love it if, whenever someone has to discard a few cards, you were to maybe show which cards where discarded, maybe with a small icon next to their graveyard? I know it's extra work, especially if someone dumps like 13 cards because they drew twenty plus cards with a Necropotence, but it would greatly enhance the viewing pleasure! You don't have to narrate those cards either, but you could if there were any super important / relevant cards discarded.
Yes that one was nice too😁 Yesterday i played Siona and Won with Earthcraft /1 enchanted forest /whip silk /siona / and a enchantress. This drew half my deck and i could win with altar of dementia. This fellt really unnecessary long but my shielded by faith got countered 2 times.
Love the videos! I have learned so much from this channel. I have never played an interaction like grasp of fate in our playgroup. Could someone explain that a bit more and other cards that work that way?
I've always found the interaction between commanders and effects like grasp of fate to be counterintuitive rules wise. If you return your commander to the command zone and the grasp of fate is removed it returns to play. I presume, but would like to know for sure, that would not be the case if you put the commander in the command zone from grasp of fate recast it and then put it in the command zone from a non-grasp of fate effect and then grasp of fate was removed
that is correct, it would be seen by the game as a different object. Same reason that flickering a creature with epheramate and the like counters removal pointed at that creature
The benefit of Mindblade Render is that it is a 2 drop. It doesn't do much in games like this where creatures come out early, but in games vs more control and spellslinger decks, the Render usually doesn't have much of an issue getting through. I personally use it as a budget Dark Confidant due to the CMC and speed at which is starts producing value
I had a question about the interaction with grasp of fate and exiling a commander with it. How does that rules interaction work so that u can still get your commander back if grasp of fate leaves the battle field.
K'rrick missed a manavault burn trigger after the abolisher cast, vault was underneath darksteel for this turn until untap and moving straight to combat. Idk but it seems kinda strange, so close to lethal
I can see there's coloring to the life/commander damage numbers, but there isn't enough for it to be clear reading. Could you please show the colors in a more obvious way/ choose more distinct colors?
My question about the errors: was the free counterspell FOW? If so it wouldn't work. Chain of Vapor was still on the stack, for it to be copied. In response to the copy, he cast culling the weak, while cinder vines was still in play. Mana source or not, it should still trigger. After this, he doesn't have the life to cast Reanimate. I might be wrong, but not sure.
The free counter was I believe Pact of Negation; however, based on how the turn played out, we weren't actually sure if Bill would win or fizzle there, so most likely the Mental Misstep would have been to counter one of the 1CMC sacrifice spells after the Chain of Vapor resolved
It is a proxy. For ease of use we tend to proxy cards we have in other decks so we don't have to constantly swap cards, and I accidentally pulled the online version of that card for the proxy
Grasp of Fate being destroyed returns the Commander even when it's not in exile? Didn't know that, the same should work for Banishing Light/Banisher Priest since they're worded in the same way, what about Oblivion Ring/Fiend Hunter?
Cards like Oblivion Ring will not work if you put your commander back into the command zone since it specific says 'Return the exiled card...' and after replacing the removal effect it is no longer exiled. If it doesn't specify that the exiled card returns or that the card has to return from exile then the replacement effect shouldn't stop the re-entering
I play a monoblack deck like this K'rrik deck, although i've deliberately not made the push to competitive yet, and my life total is always so precarious even without K'rrik as the commander. I use old school Chainer, Dementia Master for his instant speed reanimation toolbox, and even then the life can get real low. Anyone got some suggestions for good ways to keep your life total happy in black? Atm i run Sangromancer, Dross Harvester and Bloodchief Ascension (not including Blood Artist effects).
How does Nate have a Lake of the Dead with the Vintage Masters printing and WOTC stamp on the card? I really want to know lol. The card has only been printed in Alliances in paper and online in Vintage Masters.
@@Staymadmyguy Where can you get proxies for cards like that? I prefer the Vintage Masters artfor quite a few cards versus the OG ones I have. Cheers for responding quickly.
Vhaanzeit so what we use is MTG press just for paper and then we use a basic land backing, you can get any card from any set printed. I personally use CustomizedMTG for my true to size proxies/alters.
Adam would've had his mental misstep and could have countered pyroblast that countered his reshape, so technically Adam had the win. Obviously, someone could have another counter, but as far as we know thus could be game changing missplay.
Necropotence causes Nate to slip his draw step and Mana Vault does damage to him in his draw step so the damage would be skipped since he skips the phase.

@@Staymadmyguy Really appreciate the info! Thanks a lot.
nate doesn't seem to take damage from his mana vault for several turns
Adam would've had his mental misstep and could have countered pyroblast that countered his reshape, so technically Adam had the win. Obviously, someone could have another counter, but as far as we know thus could be game changing missplay.
Why didn't Nate die to his mana vault?
Necropotence causes Nate to slip his draw step and Mana Vault does damage to him in his draw step so the damage would be skipped since he skips the phase.
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG oh ok that flew right over my head. Thank you!
Love it!
Nate went at least 2 turns without untapping mana vault and not taking damage from it being tapped
I am confused how that loop ends up getting to resolve when the damping sphere is still in play.
MrEDTGinger damping sphere is not in play. It was in exile with time counters from delay.
proxied lake of the dead? He's using Vintage Masters edition, which is mtgo only.
