Slight error that didn't impact the game, but should be mentioned anyway: if you're unable cast a suspended card when its last time counter is removed, either because it has no legal targets or because some effect, like Teferi's, is stopping you from casting spells during your upkeep, that card stays in exile. It doesn't go to the graveyard.
That flux bait into Tolarian Winds was beautiful. And as soon as That RCoE resolved I knew it was gonna go for Ballista. Great game fellas, looking forward to watch you guys go against Play to Win in a couple days.
if he knew he could bring it back with the goblin, there's some value in letting your opponents waste time and resources removing the monolith. plus it was just mana efficient
When Jordan activates merfolk looter during Joseph's turn 7, he draws, discards, draws, but he should have drawn 2, discarded, drawn 2 again because of the archive. Could've found the response he needed.
This duel is greatly narrated! I've been watching your videos and I must say: Great Work! Comparing with other channels, the quality of duels, the way is edited (I really like the frame, with life, commander damage, cards in hand, etc) this truly shows the time and effort you guys put into! Kudos! Keep it up, thanks to this type of "CEDH" I can take better decisions on how to build my decks! :D
The idea of this channel is awesome! These gameplays with commentary and explanations are so damn great! Keep it up, these videos are so fun and useful, well done!
At 17:15 I think Jordan should draw 2 because of the archive, then discard 1, and draw another 2 because of rielle and the replacement efect of the archive once again. (draw 4 discard 1)
What a game! Anybody could have had it. I'm really excited for zirda. He's the next Commander I'm making. And this was a fantastic Showcase of what he can do
I've been playing Rielle a ton online for the past week, and I don't think the storm version is the way to go. Because you fuel your graveyard so quickly, the deck is the perfect home for underworld breach and LED. You guys should try that version if you have the chance, Rielle needs redemption.
It was satisfying seeing Boros win but idk why this level of power doesn’t spark fun in me. Ehh, to each their own I suppose. Major ups for featuring Ikoria commanders!
Weathered Wayfayer is a new one on me. I should think about if it goes into my decks! Though sadly don't think I have any decks that want a Ranger-Captain of Eos package. It is sooo good but just doesn't seem like I have the decks for it.
These new commanders are much alike. Pushed to go a specific direction. More powerful combos. Will change commander power level a bit, but understandably answerable
i should post my Kinon deck tech. Basically it has 3 cards in the entire deck with a CMC 3 or 2 and then everything else that's a nonland permanent is CMC 4 or higher. The idea is to get Treasure Keeper into play and cause it to die through either combat or sacrifice to then (near gaurantee) getting Basalt Monolith. The other 2 creatures are Galvanic Alchemist and Prismite, Prismite's purpose is to be a dupe of Signpost Scarecrow and is optional but does the same thing allowying the colorless mana to be filtered into colored mana to then proceed to the win. The Galvanic Alchemist is required because there are enough things in the game where you can animate an artifact and it's a "backup strat". Animate a Nyx Lotus, Empowered Generator, Gilded Lotus, Thran Dynamo (with either Prismite or Signpost Scarecrow in play), and a few others which then you soulbond with Galvanic Alchemist or equip with Sword of the Paruns (because it's 4 CMC and again, meant to be backup strat so you do not want Umbral Mantle) to then generate infinate mana. Remember Kinnon will make Prismite and Signpost Scarecrow actually generate 2 mana of the mana you choose so you are using 2 mana to generate 2 mana of any color. Sadly, i've not uploaded the deck tech to EDHrec at all because i'm just too lazy to. Yes the deck makes use of Protien Hulk where your targets would be Prismite and Treasure Keeper. And remember that your still "casting" Basalt Monolith if you decide not to put it to your hand through Treasure Keepers "dies" trigger.
And then i realized that Kinnon Bonder Prodigy ACTUALLY needs you to TAP the permanent before she sees an additional mana being produced so you end up being able to filter 2 mana through the Prismite/Signpost scarecrow for ONE mana of any color where if you used Elvish Aberration, for example, to produce 4 green mana you can't go infinate with Galvanic Alchemist because you would end up just being able to infinately tap Elvish Aberration for exactly the mana to untap it HOWEVER if you were able to equip Sword of the Paruns (or if somehow you decided to do Umbral Mantle instead of Galvanic Alchemist) you would have infinate green mana as Elvish Aberration taps for 4 green mana and you use 3 of that mana to untap it. THEN Prismite and/or Signpost Scarecrow could filter the green mana into blue mana for you.
I think there's a slight misplay at 9:05. The Deflecting Swat chooses new targets, but doesn't target anything other than the ability itself. Therefore the new targets are neither chosen nor announced until the Swat resolves. That means that Bill doesn't know that the Swat chooses his Crypt to be the new target. Although it might still be worth it to counter the Swat regardless because Joseph has infinite mana.
There's no other legal target on the battlefield that isn't also controlled by Zirda, so he should be able to assume it's getting redirected at his vault.
I feel like there should be some kind of episode around staples and prices maybe 🤔 Everyone else is focused on casual. Would be interesting to have insight on.
I play Teshar and people always leave me alone because lol mono white but often enough, I'll just fall backwards into the inf mana combo and it's a big ol' shocked Pikachu face.

Question: Were those two BETA Mana Vaults & 1 BETA Birds of Paradise on the battlefield at the same time??? If so: Just WOW, super gorgeous! (and if not, were they CE/ICE or FBB....either way, they still looked great!)
@@timothyvandenberg2905 ruclips.net/video/5GSlel9CxJU/видео.html Found the answer on their Q&A Hot Ones Parody, they do use many proxies. Of which I am in support of, it's just the best economical decision.
Normally we use MTG Press for the PDFs and print the PDFs out at staples or on our home printers. For Ikoria cards we copied the images from Scryfall, sized them in a Google doc, and exported the doc as a PDF
Good games to watch I'm curious . Can joseph still " cast " Deflecting Swat from exile when theres no target ? Or does it have to stay in exile even if the last counter was remove due to no target ? Doesn't affect the game but i'm curious . Good day and stay safe
Anything that targets can only be cast if it has valid targets. So things like deflecting swat and counterspells are very effectively countered with delay, since they will very rarely be castable when they come back.
beacuse consultation is not the problem but the oracle is. Without oracle it is a three card combo (lab maniac + consultation + card draw) and with jace it requiers the commitment of 5 mana and 3 of them have to be blue
The Flash ban was honestly needed for the most part as it made the game unfun to play against. Situations like tapping out to play a mana rock on your turn could mean you lose the game since Flash could win in response to your casting of this artifact. It also just make games grind to a standstill since no one would want to be the first person to make the move as everyone usually has interaction. All in all, a 2 mana win-the-game spell at instant speed made for unfun gameplay. Consultation, on the other hand, requires more of a board state (minimum 3 mana) and has to be done at sorcery speed. This allows other players to feel a bit more confident developing their board state and is much more interactive. It's strong for sure but not as oppressive or as strong as Flash. Consutation is also able to be staxxed out easier than Flash meaning that, since Flash is now gone, these stax pieces can return and be incredibly effective (specifically Rule of Law type effects).
to my knowledge with flash banned demonic consultation lines are sorcery speed without additional setup and demonic consultation lines all require more mana at least three and that's slower than turn 2 instant win as long as you have hulk in hand. plus flash was such a demonstrably broken and the flash ban itself was a rare unlikely to be repeated event since CEDH is a small subset of the EDH format
Nice showcase of what the Ikoria commanders can do, I'm especially impressed by Zirda's ability to come back from artifact hate so well. I built a Rielle list myself (deckstats.net/decks/104098/1608954-rielle-the-everwise-scepter-br ) and looking at the differences is quite interesting. Some notable cards I'd like to ask about are Dack Fayden, Narset, Parter of Veils, Tectonic Reformation, Izzet Charm and Firestorm. I understand why you wouldn't want to include Mox Diamond, Lion's Eye Diamond, Bazaar of Baghdad and Timetwister in a Semicompetitive list given their price (although they are incredibly good here, LED is just insane in this deck and also allows you to go for Underworld Breach combo lines to win), but these have all been very good when I tried them and they're definitely in budget. Dack Fayden in particular is just amazing with Rielle and Narset is a great stax piece that can also pretty much win the game with a Wheel effect. Muddle the Mixture is also a great card to more consistently assemble the Dramatic Scepter combo.
Why search for the wayfarer -> inventor's fair -> walking ballista with ranger captain when it can just search for walking ballista? :P Nice game though.
I needed to get Basalt Monolith back, the Wayfarer was an easy way to get a way to search up an artifact tutor (Inventor's Fair) easily while waiting for a way to get Basalt back without risking wheeling away my Ballista
I may be wrong, but since you put Thrasios on to the battlefield from Kinnan, you aren't actually casting it, so wouldn't it not be able to be countered since it wasn't cast?
Very good match. But I think that the Illuna deck had too much permanents. It would be better if you run only one permanent, Oracle. I love your chanel
Only having 1 permanent would really hamper the deck and make it very difficult to play (No ramp, no card draw permanents like Mystic Remora / Rhystic Study, no Food Chain, etc). Also, using Illuna's ability wouldn't get rid of the cards left in the library after Thassa's was revealed
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG There is the more competitive list with dryad arbor and oracle, gameplan is to ramp with instants/sorceries, get arbor (or token spells) into play and oracle into hand. Then mutate and play oracle to win. It is very fragile despite being in blue, but possibly Illuna's best shot in cEDH.
Im sorry but this rielle deck is reaaaaally bad. You need brallin and clint-horn buccaneer to pay off your discards. Also more instant speed discard cards. To get more value out of your commander. Instant speed In your enemies turns it was only used that draw1 discard1 creature. Brainstorm? Whyyyyy? Firestorm is the best card to be in this deck I really like this commander and Im testing it. Its almost Impossible to win with reservoir or labman. To much time to draw your entire deck. Temur battle rage to double strike your commander to take one treatning opponnent is really worth. I also like to use wonder and anger to give haste and flying. Its easy to put in grave and até decent blockers if needed. Thanks for the game
Nick Fanchette Yeah. Stuff like that card needs to stop too. This set has the fox goes infinite with one of a few other cards for colorless mana Zaxara goes infinite (with blue counter magic) and gives mana of any color with a few cards fetched with many black tutors and greens ramp. What is next. A legendary that says you when when you cast this card from the command zone the first time.
Yikes infinite combos are gross, everyone is so focused on their own combos with all the tutoring it feels like another game entirely. Glad no one in my friend group plays that.
@@raidgoblin6933 The main archetypes of cEDH have always been combo and stax/control, with many decks investing into various proportions of these. Only a titan like Najeela, the Blade-Blossom has been able to really break that up with a strong aggro/creature presence. That being said it's not unheard of that because of the control/stax in many games sometimes decks default to just having to beatdown with the creatures they own until they draw more gas. cEDH isn't for everyone, but it's great fun for some.
@@6slade Yeah theres that one combo/stax player in our playgroup and everyone hates his competitive deck, rightfully so. EDH is most fun without that in my opinion, flavorful commanders with an unique deck rather than thassa's oracle combo. The only issue is sometimes games can go for a long time but we dont mind, and i'm sure if the designers tried hard enough there could be cards to emphasize and hasten enjoyable games. Maybe even work into politics since its multiplayer.
@@raidgoblin6933 Fair enough. It is worth noting that if you are playing against a tuned competitive deck with anything close to a non-competitive deck you're gonna have a bad time. That's a power level discrepancy. Now if everyone has competitive decks they have the means to put that deck in place and everyone can generate equal threats of their own, making it much more fun for everyone.

Sometimes it feels like every Red, White, or Boros deck is the same with maybe 10% variance in cards.
Im sorry but this rielle deck is reaaaaally bad.
You need brallin and clint-horn buccaneer to pay off your discards.
Also more instant speed discard cards. To get more value out of your commander. Instant speed In your enemies turns it was only used that draw1 discard1 creature.
Brainstorm? Whyyyyy?
Firestorm is the best card to be in this deck
I really like this commander and Im testing it.
Woah early
Im tired of wizzards printing op legendary cards that go infinite with just one other card. Soon, commander will be unplayable
Nick Fanchette
Yeah. Stuff like that card needs to stop too. This set has the fox goes infinite with one of a few other cards for colorless mana
Zaxara goes infinite (with blue counter magic) and gives mana of any color with a few cards fetched with many black tutors and greens ramp.
What is next. A legendary that says you when when you cast this card from the command zone the first time.
Yikes infinite combos are gross, everyone is so focused on their own combos with all the tutoring it feels like another game entirely. Glad no one in my friend group plays that.
This is the casually competitive channel...
@@EKennethsanders i know, i can only imagine how much more into combos competitive is like
@@raidgoblin6933 The main archetypes of cEDH have always been combo and stax/control, with many decks investing into various proportions of these.
Infinite combos are lame
Why not just still play at each other's houses?
Not sure if you have heard about it yet, but there seems to be a pandemic spreading across the world???
@@Ridly12 Just put on a mask and wash your hands and you will be fine.
The media is just over exaggerating something that isn't really that bad and so many people just fell for it like sheep.
@@usernameunidentified175 That's just false. I'd love to know why you think you know better than all the experts
@@kaz_fiend8534 How is it false? I just said to wash your hands and put on a mask.
I'm an expert on this too.
@@usernameunidentified175 "The media is just over exaggerating something that isn't really that bad and so many people just fell for it like sheep" That's the bs part you troll
