1980: The future will be awesome!
2020: I want to go back to the 80's.
We didn’t bank on governments fucking everything up in the 80’s! The future did look so bright in the 80’s, now we’re here, it’s shite!
100% accurate
So damn true lol!

I SO LOVED THE 80'S!!! WANT THEM BACK! "DON'T MESS WITH IMPERFECTION"
I am a 50 year old black woman and I love my hall and Oates foreigner ace George Michael phil Collins etc... Justin wimperlake has NOTHING on these great blue eyed wonders.
Facts
I love you.
50 year old Hispanic man here agreeing with you 100%.
I am a 33 year old whit man and I love each of these artists you named!
I'm not going to lie....you are the only black woman I've ever heard admit they like Foreigner 😆
Another terrific song adding to the glory that was the 80's!

Agreed. It's too bad those days are gone (I was in Elementary school back then).
I'm 55. I would gladly go back to those teenage summer times.
Any other old farts over 50 who remember this song and others from when we were in high school? This one kicked ass in the summer of 1985. Such great times. I was 17 then. I blinked and somehow woke up and it was 2022. Went from being a teen to a grandparent overnight and it’s horrifying. Where did the time go? Anyone else feel this way? And why is our music so horrific now?
Yep. I’m just turned 60 last year. If my memory isn’t trash as usual, I think I was attending community college when this was popular.
They had some songs that were bigger than this, but I always loved 🥰 THIS song!
Oh yes
Time flies bruh. Oh my.. didn't we have it back then.
Good old days!
November of '84-March of '85! Hit Music.
A truly underrated masterpiece.
Totally sublime.
A very chill song

2020. I'm listening this amazing song. The best of all: I used to listen to Daryl Hall & John Oates back at that time. Good to be alive.
入りたいです❗
2020...and H&O have been around for over *50* YEARS!!! (While their first studio album, Whole Oats debuted in 1972, they actually formed in 1969...51 years ago! [A year or so before I came into existence!!] :-) )
2020 has a lot of us reminiscing to this great decade filled with amazing music and memories. There are not many covers of this song on youtube - because nobody can do a great cover of this unique music and incredible vocal.
Oooooh, cuántos recuerdos estudiantiles 🥺😭😟🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶😍🤩
It’s was back when MTV was all about music videos and the like. The 80s was a magical decade that promised the moon, and to a great extent, delivered. It was a wonderful time to be alive and be a teenager. The music was in synchronization with the technology and nothing prior to or since the 80s has ever been so special.
If time travel ever comes to fruition and affordable, I’d spend as much time as I could back in the 80s.
My Uncle, bless his eternal soul, was taken far too soon. He would play this cassette in his car and this song reminds me of him. I love this song ❤
I'll drink to your uncle.
Who care what color you are this music is made for anyone to love
Yes. But back then it was different. R&B performed by white artists was almost unheard of. But these boys kicked the door in!
Hall and Oates are/were white boy Philly soul. They are awesome.
Hard to believe that Daryl is going to be 76 & John 75 this year
you know what, I can see it. Entropy is one hell of a phenomenon
they were very ahead of their time! their sound is still young, but they brought it out in the early 80s
And Daryl is still touring
Daryl is going to be 78 this year. Daryl was born on October 11, 1946. John Oates turned 76 this year. John was born on April 7, 1948.
Went to a Hall and Oates concert just over 6 years ago. Those are the youngest old dudes I have ever seen. With the performance they put on, they must have never touched drugs a day in their lives.
This song reminds me of my mom so much. I was in kindergarten she used to pick me up on her lunch break and she’d have it on. She always had good music on. Rip mama I love you forever ❤️
I love how music connects us to sweet memories.

I was in my 20's in the 80's, I knew right then life could not get any better.......I was so right.
That’s true for me too!
I lived in a black rough hood in the 80S and got no flak for the Jingle Bell Rock song. Everyone loved these guys
I was 19 when Maneater came out in 1982. What a summer of music that was.
The mid 80s were the best for music, no doubt (mabey not for fashion though, lol )
So unbelievably lucky
Daryl is easily one of the greatest soul singers of his generation.
And Hall had a great soulful voice. That made them a double threat! ❤️
I would just go with greatest singer all round with his skill
He always maintains TIGHT VOCALS! 😉
Agree - actually, look at any of their live performances (even from Old Grey Whistle Test 1976), incredible ! None of this nonsense with ear-phones - just a tight band, great voice, brilliant musicians.... 🎶
He still is 💋💋💋
Who's chillin to this great classic in 2024
Me and my MTV!!!
Love this song since the 1980's

these guys had hit after hit from 1979- 1984. Such an impressive run. That's talent, good lyrics, and strong musicians.
More like 1974 to 1985...this was released in 1985.
Their mullet game was on point. I love the 80's. This is one of my most favorite songs.
Couldnt of said it any better Tanarine---This is my favorite Hall and Oates song---I listen to it everyday!!

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

Yo
Yes-this is one of Hall & Oates best songs!
Banger....
No! Stop it. Im enjoying 1982 again. Lol
Hall and Oates were to me the first group that bridged the color gap, as growing up in the early 80's in the city, Hall and Oates were listened to by black and white people alike. They truly were a band ahead of their time and in my opinion underrated. A lot of their songs are timeless classics. Great stuff
+Blkfiredawg69 they reached the number one spot about half a dozen times. how were they underrated?
They never got a grammy
Aj Briano I’m sure they sleep fine at night.
Aj Briano My opinion they had way too much soul for the record exec. that's why ,they never received any Grammys , or they pissed some people off in the industry.... My opinion. I love this Duo.
Although John Oates won a grammy for one of his solo projects,H&O never won one. The Grammy's are not end all be all. Plenty of great artist never won. Journey,Boston,Diana Ross,Foreigner. Even The Beatles never won when they were still a group. Only 20-30 years after they broke up did they win. And that was for compilation album,re release of obscure songs
Daryl Hall: rapper, dancer, poet and soothsayer.
@JohnoatesnusicFantastic! How are you?
Yup-yup!😆❤❤❤❤❤❤
Miss this time growing up. It was such a fun time.
yes it was,
Remember hearing "Rich Girl" as a kid in 77 then the hits in the early 80's. Loved this song when i was in eighth grade in early 85. And not to forget "Say it isn't so" in late 83. Lol.
OMG! Tears in my eyes! All those fond memories of Family and Friends who are gone and lost.........
Doctor Garbonzo True....this song and "Who's Holding Donna Now" by deBarge evoke a lot of those memories of friends from the 80's who have come and gone.

Especially knowing what’s coming up- one perfectly crafted pop song, still slaps.
The best!
I recorded this video back in the days from Super Station WTBS Night Tracks television music video series on my VCR and would rewind to this part. It was this one my personal best, followed by Posession Obsesion (yelow cab night city scenes,) and Everything Your Heart Desires. Hell of a band. Iconic 80's videos.
Absolutely spot on at tht part it's worth the admission fee alone
Don't mess with imperfection.
Darrel Hall was one of my singing idols in high school. I used to practice his songs and his style for hours! The result was that I was the best male singer in my school and landed prominent roles in musicals and sang in a couple of bands too. Beyond any doubt, he’s one of the BEST male vocalists of the 80’s!
Method of Modern Love ❤️❤️❤️😘 absolutely love Hall and Oates
The biggest difference between 80's music and today's music? Radio stations didn't have to play these songs a million times until you were forced to like it!

teased hair, pastels, shoulder pads... what a time the 80s were...
+McQueenPress True! I can honestly say that I never wore those oversized pastel shirts, and I never had a mullet hairdo either. The music scene was intriguing with its emphasis on clubbing and fashion back in the 80's. I always thought that the fashion was hideous, even back then.
Tell me this... did you wear the Hammer pants? No one admits to those! LOL Even the makeup was hideous back then, primary colors drawn upward in harsh streaks... oh boy
+McQueenPress Never wore them

This is SUCH a great song! It is deceptively GREAT in that it uses discordant chords and notes to convey the modernity but he does it so melodically and rhythmically and throws in little hooks to engage you on several levels. Just a great freaking song. Back in the 1980's I loved it but it was a shallow appreciation. I just liked the tune. But now I understand a little better how much craftsmanship went into it to make it something I loved despite the touches to stress the advancing technicality of the era. I don't know if Daryl Hall gets the credit he deserves for being an astounding songwriter AS WELL AS A FANTASTIC SINGER! Great song.
It's an excellent group
💯, Paul.
It’s a great song, that was fortunately well recorded..
Don't forget Mr. Oates contributions my friend.

Very true, Paul 😊
Same, we called it blue-eyed soul where I grew up. They were frequently played on the "black" radio stations. Real talent will always push through. 😊
They absolutely HATED that term, blue-eyed soul, called it racist. Dunno if I agree or not.
Philadelphia Soul.
I spoke to GOd, and he told me Heaven is the 1980's. So, just be good, and when your life is over, you have this great reward waiting for you.
Well, fortunately, while you wait to get to Heaven, you can purchase MP3's from the 80's and form your own collection to listen to all you want!! (And I agree...80's music is [at least] a _slice_ of Heaven!!) ;-)

I love these '80s songs! NOTHING compares to songs from the '80s! NOTHING! It was the very BEST era to be alive and out cruising around in your car or in the clubs! If you were there, you know exactly what I'm talking about. We knew exactly who we were! We had our style and we had fun and didn't hate on anybody!

I have to agree about the 80's. I'm 53 now and I can tell you there has been no decade before or since to even come close to what we experienced in the magical 80's. Oh how I wish we had a time machine. I would just about give anything to go back to Jan. 1 1980!!!!! Anything!!!!!

From what I’ve seen coming from live from Daryls house I must agree that they’re still fuckin great.
One of my absolute favourite songs from them. So cool !😍
These 80's artists had some of the best music in the universe!!!! Miss that music!!!
Hi Cynthia,hope you’re okay ?
3:46 Darryl Hall's comedy pratfall off the roof, and when he reappears at 3:54 he's had a perm! Great song, crazy video! I love that they had a laugh with their pop videos. Hey , it just hit me - they were the Starsky & Hutch of 80s pop!
Wow! I read your comment and realized I have not yet even watched the video! LOL The music is too absorbing!
The only thing I _don't_ like (and I hope is no longer the case) is that Daryl smoked! (At least, there was an interview with H&O at one point in the early 80's, and Daryl was puffing on a cig the whole time!!) Hopefully, he has long since QUIT!!
@@pjmills8832 I didn't know that, never had Daryl down as a smoker somehow. He has aged very well I think, which suggests he wasn't a heavy smoker or quit (nothing more aging than a bad ciggie habit).
I was more disappointed in Daryl's ugly history with his one biological child, who he fathered in a one night stand with a fan around the time this video was made.
He fought tooth and nail through the courts to deny the child, a son. When DNA very inconveniently confirmed he was the daddy, he fought all over again to keep his child support payments to a minimum - very shabby behaviour for such a mega wealthy man.
I once saw a RUclips interview with Daryl from (I think) the mid 90s, where the host asked him direct about all the rumours he had fathered a child and he point blank denied it on camera! That didn't reflect well on him at all IMO. Just a shame one so passionate about NOT fathering children didn't take care of business and use a condom/have the snip! Puts you in mind of another Hall and Oates hit - 'Family Man', lol!
M-E-T-H-O-D...MAN
Yep, they Wu Tang sampled this!
YES!!!!!! I thought the same thing.
Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, Method Man doesn't like discussing this.
@@lifeprinciples he probably had to pay up big-time. That WAS his breakout song but probably made no money off it.
YES NOW WHAAAT!!!
COLDEST SONG EVER‼️‼️‼️‼️🥷🏾
Probably my favorite Hall & Oates song....killer vibe.
"Dreams are made of a different stuff
Emanating in a method of modern love
Present tense, past time behind
Don't fall for the same old line"
An awesome song with out of touch and one on one competing.
love this song, too bad this song is overlooked and neglected by the radio stations yet you still hear some of their other high charting hits on the radio.
Thank you.
Doobie1975 ......possession obsession too.
Julia White YES!!!! I love Possession Obsession and it never gets played.
BJMallory .....I know right?! Dang shame! This is why I get on my H&O binges on RUclips lol. Literally, it lasts for hours! They have so many great songs!
Agreed. I went to two of their shows in the past 2 years and this was not on the set list. I would love to see this one live

I am a 19 year old black man and I am obsessed with them❤❤❤
My goodness, I'm so blown away by this music video for some reason! There's so much depth and playfulness and the music is so complex and colorful, it really creates it's own world.. This is what I usually look for in albums, because songs like this are rarely getting a "Single Worthy" treatment they so rightfully deserve.. And yes, imperfection! This whole song is so bizarre and "out there", it's just not something you hear on there radio, and yet here it is with it's own music video that is exceptionally fitting!! Also this "shout out words letter by letter" thing is just too fun and cool to be the hook of a single with the music video!! I literally cannot believe this exists, but I'm so grateful it does!!
BRTD 2005 it's great to hear younger generations can enjoy what we were listening to at your age.. it's a glimpse into our world then .. I tell you it was awesome to be in your young 20s then..
Indeed--they knew (and know) that they are talented, and at the same time they've never taken themselves *too* seriously--they write, play, sing (and improvise, as we see here in this video) because they love what they do!
Best decade in music.
without a doubt xx

Has to be...Universal sound in the 80s Everyone! Blk, Wht, Domestic, and Foreign requested to hear hits like this one...RESPECT
Amen girl!!!
One of the most underrated American rock bands yet!!!!
This is the Jam!!!! Still listening in 2024! 😍
Freshman year of high school! I miss the 80's!
Same!! 😁
me too!
+Hereismytwocents2011 I was quite a bit younger but remember having the song in my head while I was at lunch in school one day.
me too music was great all music this shit today is a mess
High School Junior at the time. Agreed...I miss the 1980s.
I grew up on this jam. I didn't appreciate it's magnificence, at the time. Now I believe it's my favorite H&O songs. It showcases every single style of theirs, from blue-eyed soul to 80's pop. It's the one song that gets stuck in my head that I actually enjoy. Good times. Lots of love to Daryl Hall and John Oates. =)
BADDEST WHITE BOYS IN MUSIC HISTORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
White boys KNOW their shit when it comes to music tho. I gotta give it to them, hands down
John Oates is White?
pure soul baby - Hall and Oates
Randa Wise you make sweet love to a white man yet?
+Jason Voorhees - Have you? LOL!!!! Besides, I give people their props when they are good at something. What does your question have to do with music? wow
Forever and timeless ✨ 💛 💕 💓 ❤ 💙 Daryl's voice and presence remains alive in his musical life ❤ ♥ 💕 💖 💙 ✨ 😎 💘

Daryl was so cool, he could make a cheesy video look good.
...by far my most favourite track from this Dynamic Duo!!...never got enough air play back in the Day though, and was totally under-rated in my opinion!!!...the 80"s...(sigh!!)...Good Times, Good Music!!...(another sigh!!)...thanks so much for sharing!!...
+Leroy Teó yet this song went to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, I agree this song is very underrated and doesn't seem to get enough attention by many H2O fans.
+Doobie1975 ... thanks so much for that information!!...Much Appreciation!!...
one of my favorite hall and oats songs
RIP Tom T Bone Wolk

Damn, I love bass grooves!
T BONE WOLK RIP
T Bone passed? That sucks!
Tbone was badass on that bass.
Love goes out to t-bone walker who we lost two yr.ago.
Daryl Hall is a one man master class on how to do everything right in music. Pitch, timing, writing, hook, production, and when you watch him in person or in video you see a man doing what he was made to do.
I remember staying up all night long on Saturday night watching Nightracks and getting up to dance when this video came on. Thank you for such great and memorable music with perfect messages.❤
I liked Nightracks and Night Flight on the weekends a lot better than mtv.
Yes... I loved watching night tracks back in the day..💓💓💓
I remember something like that was it on the superstation17 in Atlanta right before it morphed into the turner network. That's before the MTV days. What a great time it was to be alive
