looool im not surprised! my mum used to laugh at me about all the stuff i do to my hair talking about how she used to use OMO to wash her hair and also used grease. she had really long natural hair when i was growing up (OMO is a washing detergent brand in west Africa). Saying that though, i think weather and climate does affect our hair on this side of the world. Everytime i go back to Ghana which is more humid, everyones hair is thriving and most of them do not do most of what i do as they cant really afford a lot of hair products. So yeah where you live matters in regards to what will work or not work for your hair

Yeah even my skin when I’m in Ghana is so soft and I can get away with not moisturising my body the whole time I’m there without it drying out. I find that my skin attracts dust when I cream depending on the season. However as soon as I touch down at the airport in London my skin is dry and crusty lol

daughter has the longest hair in the family. The routine is Shampoo, Deep Conditioning, Grease & African Threading with wool. I Cover her hair completely with the wool and leave it for 4 weeks and only moisturize her scalp.

I'm going to do the African threading but with the black weave thread. I always thought that wool would absorb too much of the hairs natural oils!
Always could grow hair, and retaining healthy hair was something that was impossible for some. My heritage allowed us to grow hair. I agree with you it's not my goal,but to each their own.🎉

She has beautiful long thick hair. Our mother did not deep condition our hair either. She just washed it and used Vaseline. On our scalps, our help is long down our backs. I believe mine was the longest. Because she used to tell me when I walk. My hair would just move up and down as I walk.

@LolLol-jd2mx You're right, because I changed my mind up on a weekly basis and then I wash my hair every 2 weeks. So I don't touch my hair for one whole week. But that next week. Yes, I do take it down scalp massage, Moisturize, and then put it right back up.

If you do end up meeting her, do you think you could ask her some more specific questions about her routine?? I’m very curious to know how frequently she washes and the condition of her scalp. My biggest struggles are with maintaining a clean scalp with an infrequent wash routine, but I can’t wash more frequently because detangling is too arduous, among other reasons. Getting a detailed interview from her in English about her hair routine would be a once in a lifetime opportunity!!

IMHO, her length IS the style. It's beautiful!💜 I've always wanted classic-length hair like my grandmother. It's currently TBL, but for the last 13 months, I've been battling CCCA. I doubt if I will reach my goal now, but at least I made it to TBL. Even if I lose it all I'll know that it might have been possible.

CCCA is an immune system disorder causing scalp inflammation. Get checkup on red blood cell count for iron and other vitamin deficiencies, check for thyroid and pcos issues and treat if needed. Gut health is imperative. Go vegan for awhile or limit red meat, destress, exercise, drink water with lemon by the gallon daily. Take needed vitamin supplements and include probiotics, collagen, and MSM.
My aunt (from Cameron) had her hair waist length for years... only treading and cornrows! But let's say one thing: Water!! Most African countries have VERY VERY SOFT Water! And this makes such a difference! Same things in countries like Brazil... A lot of Africas and Brazilians lost their Hair arriving in certain places in Europe because of the Hard Water.

@@NinthJewel Depends on how you lay them and how tight you twist the thread. I pulled my threaded hair altogether in a low ponytail and combined them in the back by twisting or braiding them enough so that it will not bulk up. Mine does lay flat with this technique.

I literally use liquid black soap to wash my hair and moisturize with a light layer of shea butter. I mist my hair with purified water and vegetable glycerin every day.
Simple is best and the money I save on not buying hair products I invest in my nutrition.

I went back to Blue Magic and my Clove Spray and like magic, my hair is growing like crazy. I spent all that money on hair products over the years only to find out, that going back to the basics and $2.99 a tub hair grease to get healthy, thick and long hair. lol go figure... thank you for sharing this video.💞💞💞💞💞

That’s because blu magic has safflower coconut wheat germ. THST is what is beneficial not the mineral oil or the petroleum.

Interesting she uses boom detergent, which is quite a harsh product to use on hair but it works because she uses Vaseline which is quite a thick product to use on natural hair as it is essentially grease with no water ingredient.
It's like she resets her hair every time she washes with a "clarifying shampoo".
Hot tip for anyone out there if you've had braids in your hair for a while and remove them, shampoo your hair with dish washing detergent ro remove all the build up then follow up with deep conditioner. Just soaks right in like a sponge.

When I was growing up, it's a simple wash with shampoo and Purelen Vaseline mixed with the castor oil, and our hair was black, strong, healthy and long..
It's this generation that comes in with all sort a theory that "we should not use Vaseline, don't use this, don't use that. Simplicity is the best and doesn't cost a cent.. I'm jamaican 🇯🇲 and a lot of us growing up life was simple.. and we survived... now it's so complicated and costly... which at the end of the day don't add up to crap. But put a lot of stress on us...
I think knowledge increases over time so we know more infor about hair today but I agree that the multi step complicated routines are unnecessary 🌺🌺🌺

I'm also Zambian with long and thick hair, though i always cut it so that it doesn't go past bra strap length. For my hair I just concluded that its genetic. I noticed my hair grows fast and doesnt break (same with my nails) even when it was relaxed. My parents both had long and thick hair. I ended up doing sisterlocks last year because it was too much for me to handle.

Im from SA we used sunlight soap on ours as kids and it would be threaded with wool and left alone our hair is down our back too and i got mixed grandparents on both sides of the family with different textures yet i was blessed with the african hair 😂so mine was kept threaded or plaited unlike my cousin's

I have cut off 22 inches off, and now my locs are 46in long.Sometimes it wrapped into a turban or a beehive style(with little bees clipped on). That is when I have my bee accessories to be worn. Most of the time, it is wrapped with fabric to match a sewn outfit . I prefer it worn up and covered .

I agree the products are too many and sometimes expensive. Sometimes just a good warm rinse can clean your scalp and not always shampooing. No poo. Seal oil or vaseline, shea butter and threading. This is my regime and it is working great for me.❤😊 6:04

When I was young my mum used to wash our hair with local washing powder blue color. And our hair was very long and healthy but know that I'm using expensive stuff my hair is not healthy and long

Since the beginning of time black women has grown long hair, down to the floor. One example is a lady that whites call medusa, she was not a witch but a very powerful woman with very long hair. Our hair no only grows very long but it's very thick, and does not create an environment for bugs, like others who's hair is long but thin. Thank you for sharing

The thing with growing hair is that, if you take care of your scalp and leave the hair alone, it will grow. I am speaking from experience as someone with long hair below my waist and never waist pennies on hair products. I must say though that abundant natural hair with a sleek texture runs in my genes too and a 100% downsouth Tonga valley girl.

I had hair that was 5ft 4 length hair. It started to thin out at the front so I shaved it off during my menopause. I was very upset. Still trying to grow it back 3 years later. Its still very thin now and drier.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil thickened up my hair front in very little time when I started menopause.
