I don't think your expectations are too high. We're at a point where so many things are expensive even though they're not quality. It's really hard to navigate shopping and to find those pieces that it's worth spending your money on.
This is a great video if you have a similar body type to the presenter. But I can see these dresses looking amazing on some people and boring on others. I’m a kibbs classic and when she said it was snug in the hips I knew it would fit me perfectly and really pop. The flimsy (light, sexy) fabric with just the right tailoring is what makes these dresses special. It is the girl that makes the dress and not the dress that makes the girl.
It do think with reformation it really is fabric-dependent! I have a linen ref dress that I wore as a bridesmaid that I love and feel was worth the value, but I have a viscose one I got second-hand that I'm SO glad I didn't pay full price for. (Still love that one but I paid $80 and that's what it was worth.) I think Jamie is kind of finding the same thing -- the denim and the linen dresses had the most positive reviews here :)
@@maggiegowland6606 heavier fabric will suit some body types better than thinner. But that doesn’t make it better quality. That’s like not looking good in the color red and saying that it’s “cheap” someone else might look very “expensive” in it
I agree it's too much, but I was in a pinch & bought one such dress 2 years ago. It was $378 then, now it's $428 (before tax). I've worn it to 3 important events, felt great each time, still in good condition and will wear it more (it's a style and colour that won't go out of fashion). So yea I over paid, but I don't regret it.

I've bought quite a few things from Sezane - really lovely stuff! Totally worth the money! And if I may - their shoes are surprisingly good! I didn't expect their shoes to be as comfortable as they are
I grew up with a dressmaker mom who worked for Dior at one point. We would never spend anywhere close to this on any of the cost of these dresses. Personally I’d send them all back because even if the first two are beautiful, they have some wear issues. Couple tips I’ve learned shopping and wearing them from her I’d share: - buy a silk slip skirt and a full length one is great to have underneath. Helps smooth the silhouette and undergarment lines. Thrift stores are great if you’re able to find your size. - pay attention to the style of tops or dresses in your closet that you feel the best in, take those proportions into account when searching - of your favourites, look at the fabric and materials. Even if you spend $400 they are using often the same material as an HM. Cheap ones can work, just look at your closet to see - if you are lucky to be a straight size, try the thrift and vintage stores - consider dropping your budgets on the piece to allow for tailoring, you can buy a size up if able to and they can help create a perfect dress for you that can help address your insecurities. We take it to a local person. there are often talented affordable people locally- shout out to my Indian and Chinese aunties and uncles 😊 Plus once you have dress or pieces that fits you perfectly you can use it as a pattern to adjust to various styles.
As for the linen dress, linen is expensive by the yard, $40-60 per yard and a long dress would need 3 yards. It justifies the price tag way more than polyester or viscose. Personally I say no to polyester at any price point.
I own a lot of reformation pieces that I truly love, but I go out of my way to avoid anything that is “dry clean only” or made with materials I don’t like. Linen for me is nearly always a safe bet and I’m always happy with those pieces from Reformation.
I think where Reformation excels is the fit and feminine cut of the dresses. The really fit well and make you look great. However they overcharge for most of their fabrics. I had to return my last two orders because the just felt "cheap" however they fit great. Now I just wait for their sales to purchase dresses that I have had my eye on. I just got two dresses for 50% off which makes it much more palatable.
I started sewing so I can make my own reformation wardrobe with minimal cost (but it does take thousands of hours 😅). Having started this process, you begin to really think why they price things the way that they do. The labor is intense and should be expensive. It took me about 50 hours to make a wedding guest dress. However, if you ever dabble into sewing, you can make these dresses to fit EXACTLY how you want them to and with the fabrics you love. 10/10 recommend making your own reformation inspired dresses.
I just bought one of their linen dresses for a wedding and it was not overhyped at all. It was double lined and structured really well. I went down a size and it really flattered me. I was shocked.
I have a couple. IMO they run a little big (I’m usually a size 4/S but can go down to XXS for their house brand, such as the somerset dress) but the ones I have are super cute and comfy! I would love to see Jamie review them as well :)
I go into the shop a lot to escape the rain because there's one outside my lecture hall and the dresses especially are always falling apart/snagged on the hangers!
I understand wanting the shapewear under the silk...but honestly your shape looks like a goddess without the constricting undergarments. There's something about the way the fabric clings to the stomach that makes it hyper feminine. Gorgeous 🥰
As someone who gets overheated very quickly, linen is one of my favorite fabrics in the world! I especially love it for my Renaissance Faire garments. The two main frustrating things are the way it needs to be washed and the way it wrinkles DX
Thank you Jamie! I usually hate and skip hauls, as i always feel like the person pretends to love everything to push me buying it. This was very refreshing and honest and i loved it! Sending love from France ❤
The first two are absolutely stunning on you, but the rest are underwhelming for sure. Reformation really taps into your fantasy self dream. Most people do not go to a winery on a regular basis (as you yourself said) but you suddenly envision yourself doing just that 🫢 after you frolic in the field of course 😜
Fun Ref haul and I learned a lot. The red linen dress is most flattering on you and versatile. It’s also most worth the high price of the bunch because of its fit, style and quality.
The mahogany Cari dress was my favorite on you! The color is perfection with your hair color and skin tone! And yes, the cherry dress and red/tomato dresses were AMAZING!! 😍
Some of these are very pretty but overall the fabric seems too flimsy for such high prices. To spend almost $400 on a dress that isn’t even formal /black tie seems kind of crazy to me.
OK, I loved the first two dresses and the last one. The dress that was long with the deep V could be gorgeous if altered to make it more comfortable but understand that would add cost. Thank you for the try on haul❤
The mahogany dress color on you is so stunning ✨ I also love the lil denim dress on you too! I think styled it will be adorable! ✨id love to see how you style it❤️have fun 😊
I’m not thrilled with many of the dresses. The only one I thought was amazing on you was the silk, but as a sweaty gal I was wondering how that would look and then it happened to you! Haha I did like the 2nd dress as well! The denim, is quite versatile, but it doesn’t seem the best quality.

EcoVero is a trademark and refers to the viscose produced by lenzing (an Austrian company). Lenzing says it is an environmentally friendly viscose because the wood from which viscose is made is said to come exclusively from controlled and certified sources.
Would love it if you tried the knitwear from reformation!! And I love the potential for this series, like the wanting to get spendy on nice brands to see how they actually are.
Those dresses were amazing, I think that the price is because of the excellent tailoring of the dresses which is why they fit so well and accentuate so well.
Could you point out construction points about the dresses that would indicate quality like lining or boning or French seams etc. or whether the stitching is good?
Thank you so much for this review! I've been on the fence about buying anything from Reformation. Spending $400-$500 on a viscose or synthetic material dress is A LOT, so no, your expectations are not too high
The Reformation price vs. quality is absolutely insane. I don't mind paying good money for good materials and construction. I think good clothes are worth their price tag! Reformation is a very specific look - not only with their clothes, but with their models to trick you into thinking it is more chic than it is. Cheap materials sold for way too much.
Thank you for testing out various styles from various designers/shops. i agree with many of your comments. Quality is not reflective of the high pricing. The first two dresses look great on you. The solid colored one, as you noted, is more versatile. I am dismayed that dresses not made of better quality fabrics are priced so high.
Hey Jamie! A bit random but I got obsessed with the green stems in the background and have been looking for a similar one. Would love to know the name of the plant/ or their link if possible, thank you sm in advance!
I stopped shopping at Reformation recently because the prices keep going up and the quality is going down. Prior to 2020, most of their clothes were made in the USA and now it’s all “sustainably made” (questionable) in China. Also, I bought jeans from them 2019 for 98 USD that now cost 168 USD. That’s insanity, not just normal inflation.
Thank you so much for this video. You confirmed what I have been thinking recently about reformation and the quality. Sad to see. I think their first dresses where much better.
I love these types of videos! Love your opinions on the dresses. The silk dress, I hate the way the back is like flipping around, the seams are turning inside out
We have a very similar figure and i absolutely love the first 2 dresses and the top of the burgundy dress. The short dress is shapeless and the back it too widely open on the back and doesn’t suit your beautiful shape. If the black one was more structured it would be gorgeous! The only way i can see the silk one work would be with a belt maybe? But i think what kills it is the high neckline.
I have had the Jeany silk dress in navy on my wishlist for some time now, but now I'm having second thoughts 😆 At least navy is darker and should hide sweat, right? 🤔
In my opinion the denim dress is the only one I could consider buying at this price point. The second, linen one was the most flattering on you but I know I wouldn’t wear it that often. The mahogany one has such a weird shape that it will look good only on few silhouettes.
The only reformation piece I own is a green silk dress I got off fb marketplace for $50. I wouldn't pay more than that but I LOVE it. Seond hand is the way to go!
I think this clothing is for a very specific body type the same as someone like house of CB has a specific body type. These dresses are “flimsy” so it fits and hits the right places on certain bodytypes. I would look into Kibbs body types for who these fabrics would look best on
You look beautiful in all of these! However, they are way too simple for those prices… I learned to sew because quality continues to go down and prices are going up….now I can make gorgeous clothing at a fraction of the price and much higher quality. It is time consuming but the process is fun. ❤
The Cari Dress is the best one: for weddings, picnics, for just looking gorgeous with flip flpos. To me, worth every penny! 2nd by the Cherries one. The others I don't really care for.
Honestly I’d only keep the red dress. But even then you can actually find custom made to order in your size and fabric of choice, dresses from Etsy sellers like hearts and found that are similar to the more retro inspired designs that reformation offers for a significantly lower cost. I spent $155 on a custom made dress from hearts and found and it fits me perfectly. Ref uses a lot of viscose and the cuts aren’t really working for my bigger boobs. I love ref designs but not for the price and fabrics they use
I love this series!! Please do selkie next I’ve been wanting to try one of their dresses for the longest time but I just can’t bring myself to bite the bullet
The first two dresses and last two dresses were my favourite! I could never spend that on these dresses. They have a few stunning pieces but I can find other eco-conscious brands for a lower price.

I think this clothing is for a very specific body type the same as someone like house of CB has a specific body type. These dresses are “flimsy” so it fits and hits the right places on certain bodytypes. I would look into Kibbs body types for who these fabrics would look best on
This is awesome and such helpful content! Maybe try Alo Yoga?
can say right away that alo is 100% over hyped hahaha
I love fashion videos. Yes keep the series going. I can’t recommend a brand but I will watch the video.
Please do Rouje and Sezane next!
Jamie - please keep the denim dress :) its a vibe on you with your hair up for sure!
Would you do a review of Christy Dawn and Doen? Oh…and Gillian Stevans, Jesse Kamm and Two New York 😉!
The tomato linen dress was my favorite!
Would love to see you try Sezane and Free People! Love this video series :)
Wish the Irisa was available in extended sizing. Tbh they need more in the ES collection.
Loved this deep dive 😍 could you do House of CB next?
You look beautiful in all of these! However, they are way too simple for those prices… I learned to sew because quality continues to go down and prices are going up….now I can make gorgeous clothing at a fraction of the price and much higher quality. It is time consuming but the process is fun. ❤
The Cari Dress is the best one: for weddings, picnics, for just looking gorgeous with flip flpos. To me, worth every penny! 2nd by the Cherries one. The others I don't really care for.
i'd say a NO on the maghony Cari dress :P
I love the Cari dress, the silhouette is interesting the color suits you too
I would love love love you to try all the different jeans reformation has.
Love your video, lots of great information.hopefully you can do asos dresses ❤
4:46 O.M.G I’m in LOVE with at dress!! A dress is pockets is worth $400 ❤️🇨🇦🤣😘
The first two dresses and last two dresses were my favourite!
I could never spend that on these dresses. They have a few stunning pieces but I can find other eco-conscious brands for a lower price.
I've heard a lot about Christy Dawn! Would love to see if it's worth the hype
11:05 this COLOR on you 😩
