I never comment on anything. But I have to for this video. I’ve seen so many videos on how people caramelize their sugar- which is stirring the whole time. That clumps up the sugar horribly and then it takes forever for those clumps to melt. I finally tried your method (third time is the charm)... and oh my goodness. My heart cried of happiness. This is THE way to caramelize sugar. I don’t understand why people would do it otherwise. Thank you for this video and all your tips! I’m a fan!

Learned a tip to take the flan out of frig and place in pan adding hot water to do a minute of baño de Maria to heat up just enough so when you flip it, it loosens smoothly without cracking.
@@kricketkitty The Flan has been refrigerated overnight, so it's cold. You're pouring hot water, the same amount again as when you baked it, for a water bath. Setting your dish of the Flan down into the hot water will cause a change in the temperature of the dish and the Flan. This does the job of helping to make a nice release. DO CHECK and see if you still need to run a knife around the edge. I would. It will help with a crack-free top.

Hi Stephanie, I made the flan yesterday since today was my daughter's birthday and you will not believe, that it turned out soooooo good. It was my first time, and I followed it to the T and everybody loved it. Thank you for the great recipe and the steps in detail.
I made your flan last night and it was DELICIOUS! I saw another video where someone melted the sugar using 2 or 3 tbsp of water and no utensils. Placed a lid on the pan and the water from the lid kept the sugar from crystallizing. When it started turning color, he just swirled it around until the melted sugar was the color of maple syrup then he immediately poured it into the pan. Worked really well. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your recipe. It’s staying in my recipe file. Loved it.
Yessss! You know how many videos I’ve watched where they make it look like melting sugar is super easy and done in like 1 minute.....which equals me burning sugar every time. Thank you for showing us the true correct way to melt sugar.

I’m a “gringo” married to a Mexican man, and I love surprising him with some of his family dishes that his mom used to make. Thank you for sharing these recipes- I can’t wait to try this one!❤
I made this as a project with my adult son whom I haven't seen much in the last few years due to deployments. We're both pretty good cooks though he hasn't made many desserts. We actually made 2 of them. He wanted to take one to work to share with the crew. We baked one in the oven and he baked one in his new smoker with applewood chips. Neither of us had ever made flan so we watched the video a couple of times together. That helped LOTS. I love that the video is casual and fun. We needed all the encouragement we could get. Both batches came out great. The plate that went to work came home empty. It didn't take the family (6 of us) long to eat the other one either. We gave our sugar a slight burnt flavor - my favorite. I'll make this again for sure.
I made this once years ago from a recipe in a book. It turned out awesome, but when I was putting the caramel in the dish, a drop of it landed on the back of my hand. And as you know YOU CAN’T just stop pouring the caramel, it will all be ruined. So I got it in there and spread out, and the I looked at my hand and the drop had solidified. I peeled it off and the skin underneath (about 4mm diameter) was GRAY. Just absolutely killed. I was kinda proud of it, because that flan was STUNNING, beginner’s luck I guess. 20 years later I still have a little white scar.

I have made this about 3 times now and am making it again tonight. I’m Cuban and grew up on flan but never like this one. The texture is so creamy!! My mom absolutely loves it and keeps requesting me to keep making it!

A tip for those who live in a colder climate: heat up the pan in the oven first so the caramel can spread smoothly and evenly without cooling down too fast! I was struggling with this when I first made it, but I was able to work it out 😂
Hi❤ this is my favorite desert, I pay $4.00 at my local panaderia for a slice of flan. Now I can make it myself, Thank you so much❤ you are appreciated😊
I just made this recipe and it came out delicious. It even got my mother’s stamp of approval 😂 Refrigerating definitely helps cut some of the sweetness. I at it after 6 hours of refrigeration, and it was a bit too sweet. But when I had it the next day it was perfect.
So I've made this 3 times since you posted this. July is a big month for my crew. The first time, I followed your recipe exactly. It was perfect, creamy, delicious, just to die for you know. The second time, I was in a rush, didn't babysit the sugar like I should have, and didn't use the cheese cloth but did use a regular strainer. It was still delicious, but the texture was wrong, had a weird foamy almost tofu texture at the top. The 3rd time I followed everything except I mixed with a whisk instead of a blender. It was just as perfect as the first time. So I may skip the blender in the future so I can make this when my babies are sleeping. Anyway, thank you for being so clear with your directions. This is truly the perfect recipe as is. My suegra even asked for the recipe and is now in love with your channel too💕
I’m excited that I found your channel. My hubby LOVES flan and always bugs me to make it. Flan intimidates me but after watching this, I’m confident to make it for his birthday 🤩 Thanks chica 🥰

I absolutely love FLAN. As you stated we are afraid to make it. Girlllll, I made it following ur recipe. HANDS DOWN the creamiest FLAN. U AND Cloud are bomb. Mad love from ur puertorican sista from Philly.
My boyfriend saw me watching this and now he’s on me to make it. I guess I’m gonna have to comply! I told him I don’t know if I can make it right but after this video I think I can tackle it. Thanks!
Why is it that men expect a woman to do any baking or cooking? Cleaning and taking care of the children and dishes and laundry and hold down a job as many hours as his own. I think maybe I just have a lazy/can’t be bothered guy, notice I didn’t say man🙄
Girl for a even creamier flan don’t add the egg whites, do egg yokes only (7). Also if you spread the caramel on the edges it won’t stick and it comes right out of the pan! I’ve never used whipping cream in mine but I want to try to add it next time I make it 💁🏻♀️🇩🇴
Thank you for your recipe. I made it last night. It was a little bit too sweet for me so I will cut the sugar down at least in half next time but I wanted to let you know that I cooked it in the Insta pot and it worked out really good. This is what I did: I used a glass 1.75 quart Pyrex bowl and I put my sugar glaze on the bottom and filled the bowl to 1 inch from the top and I put one cup of water in the Insta pot and put my flan on a trivet and cooked it at normal pressure for exactly 30 minutes without putting a lid or cover on the bowl. You will have to dab a little bit of water off the top when you take it out . Then I did a natural cool down until all of the pressure was released then I let it cool at room temperature .after reaching room temperature I put it in the refrigerator overnight. The consistency was absolutely beautiful. I hope that helps those who are using an Insta pot to save money on electricity to cook with, thanks again for your lovely recipes one other thing I’d like to say is if you add a teaspoon to a teaspoon and a half of lemon zest to that recipe it really makes a lovely flan. I have done that for over 40 years.
Yes so true, some cook's don't fill in the blanks of cooking and i have messed up so many recipes due to all the missed quirks and details missed of cooking up a recipe. Thank you, i appreciate your video's.
I finally made the flan for my birthday. It WAS delicious and creamy. My only regret was that I made it in a pie plate so it came out rather thin. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Fun fact in Cuban flan we put it in an inclosed container and we use the pressure cooker/instant pot with a cup of water on the bottom. And cook for 30 minutes! Comes out perfect every time!
I did this you’re right, it works perfectly! 30 minutes on regular pressure with a natural cool down then afterwards, let it cool to room temperature on a rack before putting in the refrigerator overnight .
That looks amazing..... I love flan in my younger days I wouldn't of thought twice to eat that entire flan in one sitting.... I have to try your recipe

A few years ago a friend of mine brought flan to work for us to try. She's from Brazil. Oh my goodness best stuff. I told her I wish my dad was alive because he loves custard and he would love flan. It was the first time I had ever heard of or tasted it and I was in my late 50's. So I went home and looked up a recipe. You know what it is exactly how you make yours. So I'm glad I accidently found your post on RUclips because I can make sure to do the ingredients correctly when I make it in the future. I always let it cool down before I put in the fridge and I usually let it cool in fridge overnight. I swear Flan is the best dessert on planet earth. Thanks Pumpkin pie was my fav but it has to take 2nd place to flan. Oh when I made flan myself before I found your recipe I took it to work and they loved it and liked it even more than my friends. So Mexican Flan must trump Brazil Flan. Both were delicious.

A tip for those who live in a colder climate: heat up the pan in the oven first so the caramel can spread smoothly and evenly without cooling down too fast! I was struggling with this when I first made it, but I was able to work it out 😂
I wish I would have read this before I started tonight 😭 I hope it comes out well. I made it for my man’s birthday 😅
Great tip!
@@helenayount507im making this for my man’s birthday too 😭
Thank you for the tip
Good tip!❤
I've made this so many times now ,it's my husband's FAVORITE 💖
Hi❤ this is my favorite desert, I pay $4.00 at my local panaderia for a slice of flan. Now I can make it myself, Thank you so much❤ you are appreciated😊
I just made this recipe and it came out delicious. It even got my mother’s stamp of approval 😂 Refrigerating definitely helps cut some of the sweetness. I at it after 6 hours of refrigeration, and it was a bit too sweet. But when I had it the next day it was perfect.
Yes, always better with overnight refrigeration- a change occurs. I find that even cakes are better the next day.
My suegra even asked for the recipe and is now in love with your channel too💕
Thank you for that tip!!! My blender is in storage but I do have a whisk ❤️
I’m excited that I found your channel. My hubby LOVES flan and always bugs me to make it. Flan intimidates me but after watching this, I’m confident to make it for his birthday 🤩
Thanks chica 🥰
My daughter & I tried this tonight and had so much fun . Hardest part is having to wait over night to taste it . Aloha
Yes! That is the hardest part!!!
And … I failed … it was so delicious I could not believe it!!!
I forgave myself , and I will be more disciplined!!
Yummy!! I love flan. Can you make Orejassss? Or Bandera cookies? I’m 6 months pregnant and make weekly trips to the Panaderia 😂
I just made this flam. I made it just like you did. It is in the oven now. It smells so yummy. Thanks for the recipe. 👏🏻👏🏻🤗
Yes!!! Remember you're looking for a stiff giggle to let you know the flan is done. Setting in the fridge overnight is best, but difficult if you're craving flan hehehe🤗❤️
I made this flan today , it is an unbelievably delicious flan . I think it’s ranked up there with extreme yumminess , of past awesome flans!
I think it ‘s the winner.
This flan is the flan of my dreams ! So,so good!
Thank you so much for this recipe and showing us how to make flan. My son will love you forever. He loves flan.
i make this recipe all the freak'n time and it turns to amazing each and every single time....it makes me feel like the flan queen every time i make it lolol...i added a lil something to my flan and called it my Vietnamese coffee flan...love your recipe so so easy to make and so delicious
You add coffee to your sugar right ? If so my sister does the same
Can you please list the ingredient amounts? I can't find it How much sugar? Eggs? Oven temp? 😩😩
@@AbottNCostello hey it’s listed in the beginning of the comments…but here it is…1 can of condensed milk
1 can of evaporate milk
2 cups of heavy whipping cream
5 eggs
Vanilla
3/4 sugar (for the caramel part) hope this helps you its super easy
I made this twice and it is amazing. It don’t last a day in my house. I literally get the slightest of a sliver lol. Thanks for the recipe. It truly is delicious.
I've never made flan so I get what you are saying about it being intimidating. Thank you for the tips..
Ya Sabes amiga. It's all talk LOL
I literally cracked up at the “You guys the cracked one is for your suegra. Unless you have a good suegra”
Me gustas mucho tus recetas y qué tu hermanita está acompañado te muchas gracias por tomar tu tiempo en ponerla por escrito ❤
I grew up next door to 13 children in the Hispanic family that was our second family. We learned a culture from the kitchen to the church family traditions to hard working in the fields. And I love you for show us how to do this properly as a kid I don't remember all the steps but I do remember now it is supposed to smell and taste.
I Been making your Flan for like 2 years. Its a family favorite! Thank you!!
this is exactly how my mom makes our flans and I’m obsessed I’d never seen a recipe like hers but you’ve done it! the whole coffee serving after is too much lol asi solito is so good
Just made this and I was so nervous because flan is my boyfriends favorite dessert. He said it was the BEST he’s ever had! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe 😍😍 so delicious
I absolutely love FLAN. As you stated we are afraid to make it. Girlllll, I made it following ur recipe. HANDS DOWN the creamiest FLAN. U AND Cloud are bomb. Mad love from ur puertorican sista from Philly.
Speaking of looking like a coffee drink... try adding a 1/3 cup of Kalua someday its amazing!
I have not stop making this Flan and everyone loves it! Taking this to my Comm class as one of my favorite things to make.
My boyfriend saw me watching this and now he’s on me to make it. I guess I’m gonna have to comply!
I told him I don’t know if I can make it right but after this video I think I can tackle it. Thanks!
Brady Nicole you got this 💪🏼🎉
How did it go? Did y’all like it?
Hablas mucho!! Go direct to point 🤫
Yes girl do it!! I started to make flan because my boyfriend requested it. I've never used whipping cream before, I'll try it.
I’ve never used whipping cream in mine but I want to try to add it next time I make it 💁🏻♀️🇩🇴
Ive never used whipping cream. I use a bar of cream cheese. And its smoother and no bubbles in the inside.
I wanna try the whole coffee thing with it thats new to me.
What is the trick for no bubbles inside the flan?
@@mar9belle she strains it through cheese cloth
I might try the cream cheese one, whipping cream is so expensive 😬
Thank you for your recipe. I made it last night. It was a little bit too sweet for me so I will cut the sugar down at least in half next time but I wanted to let you know that I cooked it in the Insta pot and it worked out really good. This is what I did:
I used a glass 1.75 quart Pyrex bowl and I put my sugar glaze on the bottom and filled the bowl to 1 inch from the top and I put one cup of water in the Insta pot and put my flan on a trivet and cooked it at normal pressure for exactly 30 minutes without putting a lid or cover on the bowl.
I've never made flan in my life but made this, this weekend! It was a hit!! Thank you!

Dang steph! I started watching you in November and you were only at 30K! Now 160k!!!! Well deserved! So proud of you!!!!
t_1009 I know I’ve shared her channel with my friends!
Girl I'm not silent I just get so fasanated when your making these amazing recipes. I got a big boca. Ja ja ja U guys are awesome.
Fun fact in Cuban flan we put it in an inclosed container and we use the pressure cooker/instant pot with a cup of water on the bottom. And cook for 30 minutes! Comes out perfect every time!
We need a vídeo sis!
That’s an excellent idea at what pressure do you cook it and then do you do a natural cool down?
Omg sounds alot easier please tell me more?I love my instant pot
I did this you’re right, it works perfectly!
30 minutes on regular pressure with a natural cool down then afterwards, let it cool to room temperature on a rack before putting in the refrigerator overnight .
Oh thank you! Please share more details! Do I use the same rice pot insert?
That looks amazing..... I love flan in my younger days I wouldn't of thought twice to eat that entire flan in one sitting.... I have to try your recipe
She sounds so much like a kind soul. I'm so subscribing to this channel
I made flan a few times before but always felt like it tasted to much like egg so I hadn't made it in years. Yesterday I found your channel and used your recipe it turned out delicious. I'm sure I'll be making it more. Can't wait to make more of your recipes.
Shout out to all the Grandmas that are learning to make this caramel and flan. Thank you
One day, I will be that grandma. Making sweets for kids. But for now, I’m stuck as a 13 year old.
you don’t have to be a grandma to make this
When you’re the only one in the family that knows how to bake 😎

😂 "the cracked one is for your suegra" love you guys ❤
I love this video. Very helpful. I genuinely appreciate the time taken to express all the precautions and all the steps and explaining the exact ingredients used. 🤗 A Mexican Flan 🍮 is the best flan. 🇲🇽
The flan is originally from Spain and Europe like many others desserts and foods like churros, tortillas, etc.🇪🇸
Yes it is!!!
This is what I’m making for the holidays. I made me a promise to make it once a month. Just love how you give us instructions.
I’ve made this flan 6 times already and my family can’t get enough of it.

What is a Chola?
That is NOT "chola'd out" 🤔

I think what it is is that Chicano culture is intertwined with the cholo(a) stereotype from the 80's & 90's.
I love Flan but I didn't think this would travel well, so glad to hear it does, it will be used alot in community gatherings now. Thank you girls.
