    I will try the loop knot on my Broken Back Rebel plug next time. It makes sense that it will give the plug more movement. I love Roland Martin. I loved waking up on Saturdays as a kid watching him on ESPN in the mornings. I would wait all week to watch his show and maybe pick up a tip or two. Now with him on RUclips my learning curve is so much faster. Every time I listen to him I pick something up. Dude is a legend!

    I like the double uni and I’ve never had one fail. Anytime I broke off it was below the knot and that’s good enough for me. It’s also easy to tie . I also use the polymar knot and the snell knot. I like tying the improved clynch knot but I’ve broke off on it too many times. Keep’em coming Roland your still spoken of at Lochraven.

    Sandiego Jam for tying straight to braid and FG knot for tying leaders to braid. Those are the two knots I use besides the Uni knot to tie to the mono leaders and occasional snell knot. The FG knot will absolutely slide like butter through micro guides and I've never had it fail.

      I normally use uni to uni if I need to retie while fishing. Fg knot is actually considered the strongest braid to floro leader but it’s a hassle to tie so I do that the night before a trip at home. Normally they last the day unless you really tear up your leader.

    As a fly fisherman I’ve always leaned towards the blood knot to splice leaders and tippets. Been using the blood knot for braid to mono for bass fishing.
    The superglue idea is interesting.

  • @gl3618
    @gl3618 2 года назад

    I use a smaller spinning rod with 6lb crappie line for bass. It's a rush and you get to know drag really well...problem is, if you forget to re-tie after a good fight, you'll lose the next one. I did this last weekend. Caught a good size 4-5 pounder off a stump flipping a craw through limbs and to a stump. Good couple minute fight using drag. Next fish was probably twice his size and I lost it because I got excited and didn't check my rig before flipping back out.
    I was always taught by older fisherman that the smaller the line, the more loops/twists. Works the same for ropes. More surface/grip area with larger line while smaller lines are more likely to slip over heavy usage cycles.

  • @equinsuocha1213
    @equinsuocha1213 Год назад

    I used the double uni for a few years until I discovered the Alberto knot, and I’ve switched over. It’s thinner, smaller, just as strong and easier to tie especially when it’s really sunny and windy out there. I’ve never had a uni knot fail, and I’ve never had an Alberto knot fail, but the difference is in the knot size, the Alberto knot casts through the eyelets a fair bit smoother because it’s smaller. This is especially nice with bait casting setups. Of course the FG knot is “the best” but it has to be tied pretty much perfectly otherwise it will fail, and there are many different points at which you can screw it up.

    First of all, thanks for doing this-it’s nice to see you on RUclips. I can’t say I have anything like your experience, but I’ve had bad experiences with every one of these knots at various times. While the palomar is brilliant in mono, several brands of fluoro break quickly and easily with the palomar and do much better with variants of the uni-knot or the San Diego Jam. I’ve experienced this problem myself, and it took breaking off several fish to figure out where the problem was, but don’t take my word for it, watch what Aaron Martens has to say on the subject. The uni to uni join is pretty solid, but the FG knot blows it away in terms of reliability and strength (but it’s a little slow to retie on the water). I also have had better success with the Alberto knot when tying braid to mono or fluoro, which has been the knot I use when I retie a leader to braid on the water. And for a loop knot, especially in the size of line that you use in bass fishing, I use Lefty’s non-slip loop. I guess I’m saying that there are no knots that work perfectly for every brand and type of line for all people. As long as you do your homework and don’t pick seriously weak knots, and provided you tie them well, most quality knots will work. Again though, the palomar in fluoro (and I use Sunline products) can fail quickly, especially with any shock.
    Just some thoughts from someone who spends way too much time tying and pull testing knots...
