@@boke75 Like the Eagles. Glen Frey was adamant that their live shows had to sound just like the studio versions. While it’s always thrilling to see artists whose work you love live, the Eagles were just not that exciting, (though I’m glad I saw them, of course). I love it when LZ goes off the rails with live versions. If you really wanna see a great one of theirs check out Trampled Under Foot at Earls Court. What an ecstatic performance. It’s like they were all in a trance-like trance music. And then JP starts playing the solo from Heartbreaker during that Trampled solo, then Robert’s singing lines from Hang Man. I think it’s my favorite RUclips live video. (FM doing Rhiannon live before anyone really knew who Stevie Nicks was is a another great one. FM also goes off the rails in live shows, and it truly thrilling to be there in person.) (But LZ’s Trampled live is still my favorite.)

There was a time in my life when I was young I worked with some of my friends and we were making some money but then we were spending all that money on drinks and parties (thank god, I never used drugs except for some pot from time to time). It was two years of drinking and partying. Thank god, I had sense to pull out of that life and get my acts together. After that, whenever I looked back I have always thought that those two years of my life were lost. I wonder if Jimmy ever thinks that way about years he spend under the influence of drugs, that those years were lost from his life.

He was all flash but his fingers never quite seemed up to the task. He was and still is a great writer and did magic in the studio. Playing live, meh. He was hot opening night with the Black Crows. I was there in the front row and he was clean and sober and it was magic. But he was never consistent like that.

One of the most fearless guitars players ever. At that caliber, at those shows with so many people, Jimmy fearlessly improved and it was usually full of extra notes, surprises, even moments of just about to be off beat, off time etc- didn't matter, the passion and love of music would see him through it- he plays right through it.
At first listen this solo may come off challenging and anxious to some, not peacefully/pleasantly in rhythm kind of thing etc- but listen again without looking at the vid and him playing, just listen closely and it will start to show up- that Jimmy was in complete control while taking lots of risks. He's steering a ship through a storm of everything they've ever been through, all the emotions, the history, the repetitions and somehow having to pour your heart out at each show.
    It inspires me every time.

If you're looking for a note for note guitar solo, you probably don't want to go to a live show. This was Jimmy's interpretation on that night, under those circumstances, under whatever influence and whatever he was feeling. It's like me - sometimes my '06 Durango is a jet fighter in traffic. I am the king of the road. Other times it's just my old faithful 6 cylinders chugging away and hauling me to the same destination it always has stuck behind traffic. It's just how I was feeling. Yeah, it's JUST like that. LOL. Long live Jimmy and the rest of Zep.

Most rock stars play at the level of how drunk, or high they are during a live performance. In the recording studio they pay for the high cost of recording, therefore, they show up SOBER. In concert, we pay the high cost of tickets! He was most likely strung out on heroine. He ripped off the audience big time. He was not giving us art. He was not feeling the music. He was not free styling. Lol. He was strung out!

In my book this is probably one of the best live solos I've seen Jimmy Page do, the man pulled out all stops, he did what he did seemingly graceful and witfully, when you're working in the studio , actually you are Limited more than when you play Live, when you live, you pull out all the stops, you do your best to entertain that audience, it's a different type of setting , in the studio, there's a time element hanging over you head, more stressful, everything has to be 99.9 perfect, the Acoustics are different, sound effects are different then, mixing, mastering etc etc, has to be completely touched up, because even though it's 99% perfect there are still flaws in the recording itsself ,,, this man is one of the greatest guitar players that was ever put on the face the Earth, he's Noble, very beautiful, witty,l very humble and above all a great human being, who was able to entertain, has some of the highest standards ever put put forth by a rock and roll guitar player.....
