I had always assumed that was Duane playing the slide, but I have since heard that possibly not, that they switched roles for that song. Is that possible?
I actually attended this concert. It is a star in the firmament of my memory! A really brilliant concert with more well-known talented musicians than I can list off the top of my head, but I still have the program, if you need to know, than I suppose I could look it up. I was seated on the left hand side, quite close to the players, but a bit behind the stage, unusually & the acoustics were excellent. For me the trio of lead guitarists Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton & Jeff Beck were the most delightful thing, because I owned then (still do) a rare cassette of the three of them playing without any vocals etc., that I'd been listening to & that made it super to see them, live! It was a charity event, actually for Ronnie Lane & MS, as I recall.
Me too...both nights, back to.back. I can't believe it's been just over 39 years. It was amazing (but somewhat sad) when Jimmy took the Stage solo to play Stairway... Yet they all act completely different on stage. Eric is focused on singing, as well as playing, and is relaxed, Jeff is rigid and almost unmoving aside from his hands and swaying, and Jimmy is an animal, getting his whole body into it. And they'll all amazing.
In every video I've seen of Jimmy Page, he's always "dancing" while playing the guitar, all the way back when he was 13 years old since the "Christian and the Crusaders" band back in 1957,
Since this was likely an "All-Star" event, with a final onstage Jam for all, I suppose that it's possible that the drummer (who I didn't recognize) was not incredibly familiar with the song (at least not the last part). Although I am a musician and can (if I "scrape" all of the dust off!) remember the particular terms, this one I can't. What I CAN say is the drum part at the end needed the snare to be "double-timed" as opposed to the part he played - snare lick twice as often as he played it. I felt that it made that part drag a bit instead of pushing it, and did not lend itself to some of the dynamic aspects that needed to be there. Also, not knowing why the mix was the way it was, both Beck's and Page's leads were mostly inaudible.
Well thank you kindly, have been listening to music like this since the 60s and with everyone getting together and playing like this just blows the mind xx

Eric has health issues; Jimmy is busy monetizing every last scrap of Zeppelin memorabilia in sight; and Jeff, well Jeff will just continue his thing until he's in his 90s like Les Paul.
So that would work like, Beck picking up the phone and calling up Clapton and saying, "Hey ol' Eric there, I think you're looking a bit old and you sounded a bit senile the last time we spoke... I surmise that you must be ready to kick the bucket, but before you do... there's someone on YT going by "dd," commenting on an ARMS concert blog, that wants us to do a world tour with Pagey, so grab your strat, pack a suit case and let's go....???????"

Man he's good but he's not here with us anymore
Absolutely brilliant, I wish music was still as good as this, nothing more to say except brilliant
Well thank you kindly, have been listening to music like this since the 60s and with everyone getting together and playing like this just blows the mind xx
@Jimmy Page yes I'm very surprised who are you
What a performance! RIP Jeff Beck
Thank for all the music for all those years Jeff Beck.....peace
Boy, Bill Wyman is a bundle of emotion, ain't he?
That was always his thing.
@Waterbird4222
Yeh, Mr. No Expression Wyman. His face and demeanor is like he's "Stoned".
Jimmy with a telecaster.......... Lots of legends on that stage!!
Anyone notice how good they were with Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman providing the perfect beat to this wonderful tune. That made the collection of these musicians really shine
Sigh!! It's NOT Charlie. It's Kenny Jones.
What a great upload.... always loved this track, and played by so many of our greatest musicians......
my sister died from ms. i saw the show in la for ronnie lane. god bless you guys for all your charitable endeavors
4:01 Vladimir Putin rockin' the tambourine!
fuckin right brah....must of been some espionage during his days in the kgb
After reading Hillary's emails, old Vlad rocks out with Eric Clapton.

LMAO--AWESOME comment!
I can feel the energy! Some excellent musicians, for sure.
かっこよすぎて爆発しちゃう

"God Bless You All".. You don't hear that much any more do ya...... Incredible epic jam. Thank you....
My brother and soul music they can't even stop long enough to listen to the beauty that's happening
That is an EXCELLENT POINT, urankjj... God bless you. I mean it. I hope all of these guys make it to Heaven. I have my doubts about Jimmy Page. I hope he is out of that occult stuff.
All three of them are amazing just completely amazing
With all the difficulties any of them had, you still can't be in awe of the best!!! So many memories with all of them!!! Rock On!!!
This is so awesome; thank you for sharing with us. I wish I could have seen this performance live!
Three of the top rock guitarists of all time together on one stage! It don't get any better. Thanks for posting, JohnG
Fantastic! It’s a wonder they’re not all stepping on each other all through this! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
How many stars on one stage unbelievable! 👍❤️🎸😎🏴🇬🇧
So much talent all on one stage. Fantastic to see.
I love how Jimmy Page is just going crazy in the background
😀
He was going thru heroin addiction and might as well have been on another stage. And I am a big Page fan.
@@davidcudlip6587 he was definietly under the effects of heroin during this show. It's still funny that everyone is normally playing the guitar, and then there's Page...
...and then there's Bill Wyman: 'why am i on this earth?' 2:01 6:50
@@bradford_shaun_murray Could be he was already tired of the rock and roll lifestyle. Kudos to him for stepping down when it was no longer fun for him.
The Greatest Band of all time is right there. The greatest then , now, future! You will never see any thing greater than what is standing on that stage.
Wow what an amazing mix of musicians on that stage!
So much incredible talent in one place. That was just amazing.
Wow! Doesn't get any better than this! A powerhouse of masters! RIP Jeff Beck. Fell in love with you in 1972 and made love the first time to your white album with the orange on front! Layla! Love this!
Wow , first time I've seen this. What an amazing iconic lineup. ROCK ON💘☝
Beautiful !! Takes me back to Beautiful times in our life!!
the guitar riff references those intense times- still rings out for peace. love, freedom...
2:46 Jimmy be like "Eric, you magnificient bastard!"
Hahaha. Good one.
Talk about a Supergroup (wow?!!) playing one of the BEST songs ever! Fantastic...Thank you!
What an all star line up of musicians!

Probably the best all-star jam of all time ... certainly 3 of the greatest guitarists ever! Then add the piano, drums and back-up vocals .... amazing!
These guys are Aliens musicians! Hi from Argentina to the best rocking players!
That's one stage full of legends God bless them all
Awesome 😎 👍 It's An Emotionally Tune 😎👍 Mr. Eric Clapton, Mr. Jeff Beck And Mr. Jimmy Page They Are Great Guitarists Certainly 😄 I'm Happy Just To Watch Their Collaborate Guitar Playings👍 Thanks To Upload 😀 Thank You So Much 🙇
Not the only time ...
I fell in love with the Putin lookalike playing the gongs and tambourine. He made my whole life existence complete.
FOR A NON MUSICIAN?, U R RIGHT ON. I MISSED "PUTNIN'S SHOW @ 1ST, THEN REALLY GOT INTO HIM. (SOMETIMES,WHEN FEELING REALLY BAD, I TOO "ATTACK" MY CURRENT INSTRUMENT(SOMETIMES GREAT(IMO),SOMETIMES SLOPPY(DEPENDS WHICH PARTS R HURTIN' WORST..MY POINT. I IDENTIFY W/"PAGE'S "DILEMA>ADDICTED/MOURNING CAN TAKE YRS.. I KNOW THIS TOO WELL> (LIVE LONG & PROSPER)
Creedence Cadena it made Putin loveable ...
The "Putin lookalike" I believe you are referring to is the great Ray Cooper, a world renowned percussionist, not a notorious world leader. He has long had an association with Clapton live tours. His performance is stellar on Clapton's MTV Unplugged.
That's Ray Cooper, the best! Couldn't take my eyes off him during the show.
Saw the two man show with him and Elton John in DC in the 80's
An legendary performance by 3 guitar gods in perfect harmony of music ecstasy. One of my favorite songs truly a magical performance here.
how can there be more energy than this on stage.these gifted souls have given us so many fine memories.
Il y a 12 personnes de trop sur 14 sur cette scène. Il ne faut garder que 2 musiciens : Clapton et Donald Trump (may he burns in Hell)
Having lived thru all of the GREATEST ROCK MUSICIANS EVER has been one of the holidays of my life! Some gone way too soon but still I was here to appreciate all! Hoping for a big concert on the other side! ✳️🎶🎸🎶❇️🎸🎶❇️🎸
Thank for posting this. What great memories. We'll never see a show like this one again. Peace and Love
And me
Beck*
I am still so in love with this song and Eric. The most passionate music ever written.
I literally got goosebumps all over when they switched to the 2nd half with the piano! I was 11 when I first heard it and called up the DJ and they said it was called Layla! Damn all the current newbies can’t hold a candle to all the greats and legends that sprang up in the 60’s and 70’s. ♥️♥️🩷🔥🔥♥️🍷🍷🍷
Well as of Nov.2020 all three are still alive & Still playing quite nicely thank you very much
you forget Bill he's still alive.
Fantastic!
Very, very hard to top this track OR the lineup here.
I’ve always loved the way clapton fingers his Barre A chords where he gives everyone the middle finger. So classic.
Just fabulous 🤩
i’m 73 and this is my favorite song of all times-i still rock out to it❤️🤟🏻
Anyone else want Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton to do a world tour together before they're gone?
Me too.😁
Of the three Beck is the only one healthy enough and still playing good enough to pull it off.
Eric has health issues; Jimmy is busy monetizing every last scrap of Zeppelin memorabilia in sight; and Jeff, well Jeff will just continue his thing until he's in his 90s like Les Paul.
me too
Yes
So that would work like, Beck picking up the phone and calling up Clapton and saying, "Hey ol' Eric there, I think you're looking a bit old and you sounded a bit senile the last time we spoke... I surmise that you must be ready to kick the bucket, but before you do... there's someone on YT going by "dd," commenting on an ARMS concert blog, that wants us to do a world tour with Pagey, so grab your strat, pack a suit case and let's go....???????"
I was front and centre for this after queuing all night for tickets next to a guy who could`nt stop breaking wind, but it was so worth it. They almost had to almost carry Ronnie Lane onto the stage and he sang " Goodnight Irene". There was`nt a dry eye in the house. Thanks for bringing back the memories
Speechless
Taco power!
I love the tambourine guys, amazing! And the back up singers
Awesome! Thank you.
Talk about a power trio!
This is one of the VERY BEST renditions of my all-time favorite song, with Clapton's singing voice still raw and taut.
But let's be real, it's the guitars that always make this song as great as it is.
Thanks for posting.
3 of the best rock guitarists ever. I had a chance to see all three of them in person in the 60s but not together: Eric with Blindfaith, Jeff with Jeff Beck Group and Page with Zeppelin. RIP Jeff.
Duane was heavely missing here
You saw Blind Faith? I envy you for that
Gracias por compartir, saludos desde Venezuela
Absolutely fantastic
This is music history
I see Joe Cocker, Bill Wyman
and the GREAT Charlie Watts, too
Thank you so much for this
Greetings from Austria, my friend
Seeing Jimmy with a Tele is something magical.... I love it!
It really is a stage full of legends as others have written… but so true. ❤
Wow 🎊 Que lujo !! No había visto este concierto 🎵
やはりレイクーパーさん最高です!
I love how Bill and Charlie always have a 'meh' look on their faces while delivering performances!!
They always did. I guess it was part of their "coolness". There are a few early videos where I have seen Charlie smile, but not Bill. He was as dull as dull could be.
3 fantastic artists
Love this song and to have three of the greatest Guitar players on one stage is like wow🎸🎸🎸😎😎😎🤟🤟🤟
