I saw Blow Up when I was a kid, don’t really know how. Ended up getting it on DVD years ago because I liked it. Then, in 2019, this scene basically happened to me. I got attacked by a concert crowd after getting part of a smashed guitar. Someone onstage just stuck it out and handed it directly to me after the curtain dropped. There were a group of girls just jumping on me, ripping pieces of wood off of the guitar body while it was in my hands. There were so many splinters. The major difference is that I had the body, not the neck. And I wanted the guitar, so I ran away and then wrapped it in a space blanket so nobody could see what I was carrying. So I come here to relive the moment. 😂

Wow...that footage must have been made during that 6 month slice of Rock and Roll heaven in '66 when Page and Beck were both in the Yardies. Incredible.
Amazing and totally groundbreaking. I have an extra dose of satisfaction and pride since this movie was based on a short story called "Las Babas del Diablo" by the Great Argentinian writer , Julio Cortázar of whom I am a fellow countryman. The writer even appears in one of the scenes as a beggar, one of the first cameos of modern movie industry.
I love this movie and this scene. The overall movie is about what is real and what is not, is something real with no one there to verify what you saw. And this scene is geeat not just to see the Yardbirds and a young Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck et al but to show how context is so important to what we believe. A broken guitar neck thrown into the audience by a rock star is "valuable" while the same guitar neck lying on its own in the street with no information on how it got there is garbage
At Cannes Film Festival, Blowup won the Grand Prix du Festival International du Film, the festival's highest honour. Antonioni definitely had his ear to the ground to include the Yardbirds . Do not miss this mysterious film! Or Zabriski Point !
It seems that Antonioni wanted the Who to play this scene. Maybe because they were known to smash guitar on stage. But for reasons I don't know, it failed and the Yardbirds got the job. It's a bit strange because the Yardbirds were not very known to destroy their equipment.
I was an extra in that scene.
Lucky man! I would do anything to see Jimmy!
Did Antonioni direct the crowd to look so
inanimate until the end?

from new issue of Classic Rock magazine, “I basically got my Telecaster out to do that solo(Stairway To Heaven). Even though I’d been playing Les Pauls, I wanted to get that bite of the Telecaster on it. It was the same Telecaster that I’d played on the first album, the one Jeff Beck had given me that I’d used in The Yardbirds. A bit of a magical guitar, really.”
So glad this was filmed for us to see. I saw them live with this line up in 66 but it was so damn long ago and I was very young, 13 I think. Sorry to say my memory has faded and I don't remember much about it. Time Keeps A-Rollin.
I do. I remember Vanessa Redgrave and the "painting with naked bodies" as your "brush."
You didn't see THIS lineup in '66. The old bassist was still playing then. Page was still a session guitarist.
@@j.vonhavre1741 From June to August 1966 Jimmy Page was on bass, Jeff Beck on lead guitar, and Chris Dreja still on rhythm guitar.
Then from August 1966 to November 1966 THIS lineup existed, where Dreja switched over to bass and Page was co-lead guitar with Beck.
After Nov. 1966, Jeff Beck was fired from the group. Jimmy Page was never in the band at the same time with the original bassist, Paul Samwell-Smith.
Eleven days since we got the news, and many of us are still deeply immersed in his music and processing what a tremendous gift Jeff was and is to us all. Words fail, still in awe...Rest in peace and love Jeff Beck.

I'm 62 & love watching old footage like this. It was sad to hear when Beck died, he was a legend though I was never a big fan of his. Page however
to me is one of the pioneers of 60's/70's rock. A true Rock Icon.
Watch..listen to beck and tal wilkenfeld...crossroads you'll like it
Jeff Beck was the silent star. His guitar did all the talking he deemed necessary. That's a star.❤
It's a bummer being born in the 80's and watching as the guys you listened to as a teenager move on to the next life. God be with you Jeff Beck.
Sure. I agree with you!
Cool bullshit story bro 🙄
Maybe . I came really close to getting Blackmore's guitar at first Donnington Monsters of Rock ...he'd staged a long battle w fake exploding cabs .For the safety of everybody thank heaven there were two security thugs leapt in and ensured the guy who first got his hand on it was escorted off safely

If you're like me and thought you were going to hear "Train Kept A-Rollin'", here's the story; Antonioni loved The Yardbirds’ version of ‘The Train Kept A-Rollin’ ’·and felt it would work best within Blow-Up. However, copyright permission for the song could not be obtained by the October filming date, so Keith Relf modified the lyrics and created ‘Stroll On’ the day before actual shooting took place.”
Thanks for that background info about the usage of the song we all know as Train Kept A Rolling.
yes thats an interesting fact. I think the song/lyrics are relevant to the plot; so makes sense they changed a bit to fit it in .
Train kept a-rolling was originally released by Johnny Burnette and their cover was a great cover of this

I love this movie and this scene. The overall movie is about what is real and what is not, is something real with no one there to verify what you saw. And this scene is geeat not just to see the Yardbirds and a young Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck et al but to show how context is so important to what we believe.
