Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing how to make Condensed Milk. It's so easy and only requires 2 ingredients. And if you would like to learn how to make Evaporated Milk, I have a video about that too: ruclips.net/video/eW3FxwNs-bs/видео.html Love, Mary
This is so helpful thank you!
Hi Mary, I have used the wrong milk. My Condensed Milk tastes devine and is very smooth but is very thin. Not thick at all. Is there any way I can thicken it? Love the information.
Erin Shore - Hi Erin, I understand completely. What you’ll want to do is to allow it to evaporate a bit more on very low heat. It should thicken a bit more. Keep me posted. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Hi Mary, I realised I made from trim milk which is probably why I have the result I do. I have made another batch with whole milk and its beautiful. Definitely thicker than before but still on the runny side. How do I get it really thick like the can? Do I need to reduce it more?
@@MarysNest Bless. Thank you so much for replying! I am going to try that with the newest batch I have made from whole milk. It definitely came out thicker but its still a little on the thin side...I want it really thick like the can. The first batch I realised is made from trim milk. I will keep you posted.
So happy I found your channel Mary! This 65 year old woman is amazed to learn new things I can use while baking. You definitely have a new subscriber that plans to watch all your past videos to be educated. Thank you for being so detailed about each step. I appreciate that very much. Have a great day and please continue to educate us/me on these wonderful tips! 😊 your new Missouri fan!
I used evaporated milk with sugar and microwaved it a couple times until it got thicker and it’s a lot faster than whole milk cause a lot of the water is already out
Please don't use mirowave for food.
@@syedaanjum896 why not use microwave for food?that’s surely why we have one…
The reason for not using microwave is that it zaps all nutrients from the food. I don’t use microwave for anything but heating some water when I’m in a hurry. Microwave is convenient, but the point of eating food is to nourish your body- and when the food you eat is no better than sawdust, what is the point? It is just empty calories.
@@DrSerenaReep
Microwave cooking is actually one of the least likely forms of cooking to damage nutrients. That's because the longer food cooks, the more nutrients tend to break down, and microwave cooking takes less time. So cooking a roast in an oven is more likely to cause some loss of nutrients than cooking the roast in a microwave. And boiling vegetables is more likely to rob them of nutrients than either cooking them in the oven or microwaving them. That's because some nutrients leach out of the food into the water.
So microwave cooking is not only fast, it's also sometimes nutritionally advantageous. Of course, I've ignored an important question: does food cooked in a microwave taste any different from the same food cooked in an oven? I leave the answer to your palate.
-Anthony L. Komaroff, M.D.

this is so great I will make it for my wife and kids, but first I need to have wife and kids
This is great! I'm Brazilian and ALMOST ALL Brazilian desserts call for condensed milk lol. Making homemade condensed milk is a nice skill to have.
I need a 2300sq ft kitchen. The other rooms in the house are almost irrelevant. haha
LOL!! Me too!!
Believe it or not my grandmother had two rooms for cooking and eating because of this. It really was nice because it allowed my mom to get us kids into the cooking with her and my grandmother. Shaped my whole life of what family is, not the eating but the knowledge and working together as a whole. The hard part is I have a very tiny kitchen at the time. I swear the bathroom is bigger and that isn't much more of a size. lol
Hi! Had to simmer for a hour and 15min to get it by half. Will see if it thickness in fridge by tomorrow morning.
Thank you! Samantha from SA Cape Town

😂
This is great. I have Nubian dairy goats and I've been wanting to use their milk to make Ice Cream and fudge now I can follow recipes. Thank you!

Rosann M wish there were more local goat farmers. Heard their milk is easier to digest. Would like to support local farmers too.
I have made this using erythritol and cream for a low carb version, and that turned out great too!

This is excellent! Thank you Mary! I love how you gave us measurements to equal what would be in a can, how perfect! I also wanted to let you know that following your evaporated milk video, I made two cups total and used them in my pumpkin and chocolate pies. SO good and I am so grateful you shared that with us :)

Just to let you know, I've had success using soy milk to make condensed milk and I've used Stevia as well.
Soy is a GMO product in this country. It is also in soooo many boxed and canned foods here. In Japan, they eat soy much much much (not a typo) less of it. Soy as it is in the US is not healthy as you have been led to believe, and it is not supposed to be used as often as it's used by some here.
If you want to be vegan, then do it as The Healthy Life channel (and others like them) does it - they eat raw. Just "cook" whenever you want to. I can't remember if I ever saw soy as an ingredient in their recipe vids - it may be, but then it is in the few recipe vids of theirs I have not seen yet.
)You may be getting non GMO soy for all I know, and you may be eating it only a few times a week. I wrote the above just in case.)
@@sitdown3983 I am in Australia. I am not vegan nor do I want to be. I use soy milk to reduce my cholesterol.
@@georgianasstudio Hi Australia!! I have been to your country and fell so in love with it atmospherically (geography, the quality of sun light, the colors, etc etc etc.) Dear God, I considered staying on past my visa to try to making a life there if I could! But I chose to return to what was home at the time, Manhattan, which until Australia I used to love. For three whole months, once I returned, the skyscrapers in Manhattan looked like a bunch of tall garbage cans to me! Thankfully that awful feeling passed - it took 3 months, but at least it did pass. This world is soooooo beautiful, it is just unreal. That comforted me then as well - that if I loved Australia that much there would be other places I'd love that much too. Now back to the cholesterol: well okay then!
Alas, that is another point we in the USA have been and are being mislead on - cholesterol is so very needed in so many body functions that fearing it has created a lot of dementia etc in the US! Hope it's not the same attitude in Australia!
Was there a difference in measurements using the Stevia? I love condensed milk in recipes, but cannot use it due to being diabetic. I appreciate if you could share your amounts if they are different. Thank you in advance.
Please share your recipe using stevia 🙂
So good to know Mary! I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to make a recipe but it called for condensed milk and I didn’t have any so this will be a godsend! Big thank you, Hugs, Dolores 🥰

Love this thank you
This is great to have on hand. I feel like canned condensed milk is thinner than it was in the past. In the past, there was a recipe for “Banana Split Pizza” in Eagle Brand cookbook. My girls are grown but made when they were children and they loved it, the filling were very thick, now when you follow recipe the filling runs off the crust. I hope to make my own now.
Mary, I love Your sage cooking advise ! ❤️
Thank you Mary!
Love it ❤️ I’ve been doing this for years. I always want to know what’s in my food.
You are so well organised and researched with all of your methods and recipes and I really appreciate that.
This is all about technique.... I can't wait to try it. It's so cost effective and with next to no effort. Loved the measuring hint. I needed this recipe!! I don't keep condensed milk on hand, since we just do not use it hardly at all. So having this recipe on hand will help when I need condensed milk and do not have any. And I'm imagining making some homemade caramels with this recipe!😋 Thanks sweet Mary!
this is very detailed and you did a great job thanks
Thank You Mary😊☺
This is great. I wanted to make homemade yogurt for my little one in the crockpot with condensed milk. I love this option so much better

I'd like to, too.
Wonderful Mary!
This is definitely going to come in handy and it lasts for 6 months in the fridge, brilliant.
Although I bet it tastes so good, it will be hard not to eat it straight from the saucepan.
Great educational video, I always learn something from you 😁
Much love Elissa xx
Moat Cottage Homesteading - Hi Elissa, So happy you like this idea!! Love, Mary❤️😘❤️
Sweet condense milk last for ever indefinitely when properly seal due to amount of Ph in sugar . Just like honey 🍯 and other things.
@@JZ-gr1tz fantastic, that is very handy to have it on hand
I'm gonna make your condensed milk this Fall for my annual barrage of goodies. This stuff is so good,
it's addictive! A cook needs this for candies, even some pies.
You are so sweet! Love the joy you exude as you teach us. I learn so much from your site🥰
Hi Mary! First, let me say how much I love your channel. You take the time to explain things so that I understand the ins and outs of making the recipe. I tried making the condensed milk, but mine reduced but never thickened. I'll use it as a coffee creamer, but I don't know what I did wrong.
Thank you so much for all the details and information you shared here
What a wonderful gift you shared. I’m made the decision to make as many meals from scratch as best I can. This is a perfect recipe to learn to get me started. Thank you.
Just done that, it took almost two hours and I had to let it simmer more than what you showed us - but it looks good. Now off to make homemade ice-cream - lockdown brings out the inner cook in me😉
I thought the same, I make batches and batches of ice cream and use condensed milk as an central ingredient. For the first time, the store was unable to supply condensed milk, I think people are noticing the product, people who maybe didn't buy it before, but saw it as replacing milk and sugar when those are unavailable. In our part of the UK, the older generations used condensed milk as a preference in tea. I love making ice cream, I use it as a means of preserving fruit and dairy products. Proud to support our Dairy Farmers.
Very useful!
I can never remember to buy it for recipes. Glad to learn how to make it! Thank you , Mary!
Thank you so much for visiting. Glad this technique will come in handy! I also have a video on how to make Evaporated Milk that you can watch here: ruclips.net/video/eW3FxwNs-bs/видео.html

Love your video very helpful.. thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for showing me this video, my daughter today asked me what the ingredients of condensed milk were and I couldn’t answer her! She asked me as I had made Scottish tablet (fudge) but taste wasn’t quite right - the manufacturer’s that makes our condensed milk must be adding a thickener to their product now instead of reducing the milk and it tastes very floury. Now I know how to make my own and will try it this week. A VERY BIG THANK YOU!. BTW, all your videos are fantastic and I have learnt such a lot from you :-)
Oh Joanne! Thank you so much for the kind words!! So glad you're here!! Love, Mary
Thank you so much Mary for mentioning flour sacks in one of your bone broth videos. I'd never heard of them before and now I have a set that I intend to use to filter my bone broth. Great tip, thank you sincerely. Happy Holidays to you and your husband.
Hi Stacy, Thank you so much for visiting! Glad you like flour sack towels. I love them! They work wonderfully and wash up beautifully! Happy Holidays to you too! And a happy, healthy, and blessed New Year!! Love, Mary

@@MarysNest Mary could you do something on rice pudding please!
I just love your videos and continue to learn so much. They’re so clear and detailed, and you are such a delight to watch. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this platform. This really has been the highlight of my day because my cow is giving so much milk (I haven’t the nerve to make hard cheeses so there’s only so much I can process/consume/share/feed to chickens), HOWEVER my beloved SIL is going through radiation treatment, and she uses sweetened condensed milk in her morning coffee, so now I’m going to make this for her! The chickens can do with a lot less. Many blessings to you and your loved ones.
Awesome video. I love your technique and calming voice. You make everything look so easy. Thanks for making this video and sharing with the world.
Great video, lots of info, also thanks for not only explaining what to do but also explaining why we should or shouldn’t do it. Thanks 🤗😀❤️
Excellent tutorial, great teacher. Wonderful recipe.
Thank you!!
01/04/2023: This has been the most informative video on how to make condensed milk I've seen yet; very precise, clear cut and to the point, especially when you pointed out the measurements needed to make what's equivalent to a store-bought can; that helped a lot. Nevertheless, your instructions will guide me on how to make it without question. I can't wait to make it tomorrow for a recipe I'll be using it in, and hopefully I'll never want to buy another can ever again. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe and Happy New Year!
Fantastic! So glad you appeared on my feed! I am so excited about cooking from scratch and you are teaching us how! Yay!

Wow! I learned something new today about what evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk actually are. Thank you! I had no idea you homeschooled! Awesome! I homeschool too. :-)
Hi Robin, So happy to hear that you found this helpful! Yes… I was a homeschool mom many years ago. It was wonderful to be able to homeschool. My son is grown now. I met some young mothers at the library when they were having a book sale and they were homeschool moms and I said I was a homeschool mom too - and shared that my son is grown now. It was so sweet… They said… “Oh my… You were one of those homeschool pioneer moms!“ I thought that was so cute. So happy to know that you homeschool! Love, Mary🤗
I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
