    I have to laugh at this!!! Every time my mother would use sweetened condensed milk, I always wanted to eat it out of the can!!! I remember telling her that when I grew up and had my own kitchen I was going to eat a whole can of this stuff...ugh!!! Now, I can make my own!!!!!! Thank you so much for this handy recipe. I know this will come in handy through the holidays!!!!!!

    I just made this, and it came out so rich. Cooling off now, should thicken some more. I used half and half because I didn't have any regular milk left and I couldn't wait to try the recipe. Thank you so much for this. I didn't know it went up so much! OMG! I'm always hunting for a left over can after the holidays. Now I'll never buy it again🥰😘

    Those sure are crazy high prices you showed the store selling sweetened condensed milk for! I'm guessing you're in California? I live in Texas. Yesterday my wife went to a local store and paid around $2.50 for a 14 oz generic can which works fine. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I will definitely try it! Hopefully it will save unnecessary trips to the store!

    Hi Karen this is so cool! I did not know you could actually make evaporated milk or condensed milk nor did I know the difference between the two. Of course I’m not a baker but I don’t like anyone in my household for example if my wife or daughter spending almost 5 dollars a can for condensed milk lol. What about after it’s finished putting the jar with the seal on it in a hot bath in canning? Would that be the same as as can in the pantry?

      @IntheKitchenwithKaren  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Marlene!! Thanks so much for watching and joining me!!! Unfortunately 2% isn’t going to work. You need the fat content in whole milk to get a creamy result. You could also substitute half and half if he buys that. And just use 3 parts to one part 2%.

    What a great savings! The last can I bought was an off brand for $1.09 (a little over 1 year ago). Today it is $4.49. I planned on making a loaf of condensed milk sweet bread today, but I'm out of SCM. Do you think your milk recipe will work in a home made bread recipe? I need 1/2 cup SCM, 1cup water, 3-1/3 cup flour, a tad of butter, salt and yeast. This would be wonderful if it works in my bread !!!! Thanks, Karen. 😀

    Is there anything else that will work for the sweetness instead of
    1 cup of regular sugar?
    I could just use less sugar, but I’m really trying to stay away from just plain cane sugar, to something lighter for my blood sugar. If you have any ideas on what else I could add for the sugar portion, please let me know. Thanks so much for this video. I really appreciate it!
    As of today (2-25-24)
    The 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk at Walmart, where I live, is $2.58 for Eagle brand or $1.86 for Great Value brand.
    Your store is way overpriced on this item.
    I read somewhere that somebody bought theirs at Dollar Tree, so you may want to check there too.
    Thanks Again

    I made this recipe but I doubled ingredients so I used 3 cups of regular milk and one cup sugar. I stirred it all the way to 40 minutes. I put into a storage container and placed in freezer. After 24 hours my mixture frozen to a soft icy texture. Is this right? Usually when I buy at the store brand I can freeze the condensed milk but it still stays as a liquid. What did I do wrong?
