Beat the game and the expansion to honor my Dad who used to play this and passed away in 2016. I used to love watching him play but the missions were too brutal for me to beat as a kid. But I finally did it.
Understood the concept of playing the long game when watching my dad, about 25 years ago, beating a mission with just one mage. - pours a cup of tea - sits down - drops a blizzard on a tower - sips tea as mana regenerates - repeat until the base is no more. I am 30 now and I realize that my dad was some cold blooded individual.
I remember as a kid playing Warcraft 2 in my dad's photography studio while he worked on images and developed film. When Warcraft 3 came out, I got it for Christmas and I still remember that vividly.
Warcraft 2 will always be in my top 5! I remember getting the Warcraft III Frozen Throne Battle Chest that year for Christmas! I remember getting all excited because the trees were shaking when the peasants harvested lumber!
this game brings back memories. I played it originally when it came out when I was in middle school. we played it in my computer class. i am gonna get this remastered game looks fantastic.
QoL improvements for 1 and 2 but they didn't do enough and there are things they've removed or stripped down from the OG. Animated scoreboard, campaign map, animated guy eating chicken etc during mission briefings. Little things like that where you notice and then shake your head at the cut corner. Multiplayer is also utterly stripped down of features.... This should've been an easy buy for me but alas, I went sailing on the high seas.
It never had that. It looks exactly how it looked, except higher resolution, and our screens are much sharper and have more contrast and color depth. The grittiness was in your mind. I've realized that about a lot of old games I've gone back and played. How you saw it and what it meant was a phenomenon of time and context. At the time this looked epic and amazing. The artwork and voice work had more pull on our imaginations.

It wasn't in my mind, because I still have the original, and I can look at screenshots online too. The remaster looks like a tutti frutti kids game on mobile. It looks like angry birds graphics or something. There's no darkness to it. And I never thought that Warcraft 1 and 2 looked amazing, even back then.
I think part of it is feeling and part of it is technology. The phone I use now has colors that pop about 300% more than they did on the old computer and TV screens. I'm used to it now, but it's really very garish compared to how things used to look. Colors and images were duller and darker and less contrasty. Resolutions were lower. Games like Starcraft and Warcraft looked grungier. But then so did everything. I think that all the time when I see the news. It looks so sharp and garish and wildly colorful compared to how it looked back in the day. It's a bit like the difference between film and digital. They feel different. One has far more texture and subtlety. I do miss that analog look sometimes.
The pathfinding is the biggest difference for me VS WC3. In WC3 they go where you click, in WC2 you often have to guide them incrementally. Same with fighting.
Yeah, old RTS games sure were rough with that. I tried to play Age of Empires 1 when they rereleased it and when you tell units to go somewhere it's only a suggestion lol.
Bro just because you are over 29 doesn’t mean you are ancient 😅 but then again, we are ancient… anywho. Warcraft2 will always be Legendary. I am personally quite happy with the remastered warcraft1 and 2, apart from the lack of updated AI path finding and that both games have crashed quite a few times, causing me to lose progress on the campaign, etc. I don’t know if anyone else has crashing issues with these. Anyway as far as graphics go, they got it right and didn’t butcher it like they did with reforged.
All these "remastered editions" are just a way to gain more money reselling the same game with slightly better graphics... I wonder why people don't buy something different...
Because classic gameplay is timeless. Warcraft 2 rules. I still play BNE to this day it runs great on modern operating systems. I'll probably get this new version at some point.

Starcraft from 1998 have 12 units selection - no rally points - no unit recruitment queue - no autocasting - no autorepairing - no improved, modern pathfinding - no multi buildings selection - no custom sprites for heroes - no rebalancing, so still orcs > humans - removed privated matches from multiplayer - removed ladder - AI upscaled sprites with few mistakes (like with Peasant animation or Death Knight "idle" animation) - no new AI and no new difficulties levels - no idle worker button - broken map downloading in multiplayer, so custom maps won't work - no map editor 1/10. Terrible remaster, if you have any of older versions you don't need that at all.

That's exactly why I am unhappy. I want this game to be great and popular, not outdated, not 30 years old when RTS achievement back then was to make right mouse button a thing. If I will add rally points to the game, will you pay me 15$ for it? No? So why are you doing that for Blizzard? They added literally 1 feature. 1! That's a shame that company still exists.

Wow, that’s a big list, and I can’t help agree with all those points. They did the very minimum, but at least they didn’t butcher it… I’m thankful for that. I just wish they wouldn’t keep crashing ffs (war1 and 2 remastered).
@@Wil_Dsense They cut off ladder and private games from War2 multiplayer. They also cut off multiplayer from War1 (original had an option to play 1vs1 with a person). So yes, they didn't butchered both but they added almost nothing and they removed things that required a little more work. The list I presented is a "must have" in my opinion if we wish to ressurect Warcraft games. New audience won't try it unless the games will have a modern controls. But we all know the truth... that was not their goal to make these game playable again. They just wanted to grab some easy money with lazy and empty remasters. Now they will forget about both games again.

Those final missions are absolutely brutal
i did it by creating a lot of guarding towers and having 1 pesant keep repairing them
@@TheAtheistRising guart towers and mass archers. Polymorph is also useful if you choose to tech for mages.

It's awesome that they remastered it but... It looks like a child's flash game... It doesn't have the dark gritty brutality look.
