    I've had the Reefmat 1200 for about 4 months now on a S650 ( purchased, not given 🙂). It was easy to fit (although not positioned as RS suggest). It seems to be a joy to use especially after a Clarisea which was a total pain in the butt for roller changes. If you have room in your sump for a roller mat then you almost certainly have room for a Reefmat. Just do all your research and see if you need to be brave and try the RS sump glass change kit, fortunately I didn't need to 🙂. I've changed rolls twice in this time, the app seems to work well but typically asks for you to repeat Login details just when you want to do maintenance. I did my second change today and the roller was full of filth, Initially the take up spool was reluctant to release the roll but a bit of pushing soon worked. Setting the new roll is almost as easy as Alex showed in the vid especially if you roll the take up spool end in the correct direction (as previously pointed out). This maybe the only pleaser where I think RS might have missed a trick as they could have shown the roller direction on the motor assembly for clarity. Overall an amazing product. If it fits and you have the money - just go for it

    I believe that the back roll should be rolled differently just like toilet paper should. From the bottom. Not from the top.

  • @FoolOfATuque
    @FoolOfATuque Год назад +2

    Pro tip: That bottom piece is a place where bristle worms might love to live. When you’re pulling it out to feed new fleece in put on a nitrile glove. It will be gunky and you might get some painful bristle worm needles in your fingers. Also this thing comes with a media basket which is very convenient, but throw it away. You will double the life of your roll if you don’t use the media basket

  • @Angels_reefing
    @Angels_reefing Год назад +1

    Alex. Did You realise that when you threaded the new roll thru in your video, you actually rolled it in the wrong direction (at approx 3:40). With the direction you did the roll, once it started rolling it will loosen the grip and throwing up an error code.

    Seems to me this system would be very difficult to incorporate into an existing sump, with existing restrictions such as orientation, proximity of skimmer or other equipment. Fair enough if you've designed the sump to suit, but retro fitting (as far as I can tell) would be more hassle than persevering with whatever roller you already own 🤷🏻‍♂️

      I retrofitted my 300XL for a Reef mat 500. Had to remove a wall, but with the Red Sea sump modification kit it was a breeze. If you ever need to remove silicone or walls in a sump I would highly recommend getting the sump modification kit

      It actually does. At least for my BM Roller mat. I'd been going through rolls in a matter of a week or two, but recently modified to have the unit much higher in the sump. It's been nearly two weeks now, and the roll is barely an eighth of the way through, and completely brown with gunk. Problem solved 👌

    • @theamjadjamousable
      @theamjadjamousable 2 года назад

      @@AdamEwart yea. Makes total sense to me. Will consider that when adding one. Thanks for sharing.

    • @AdamEwart
      @AdamEwart 2 года назад +1

      @@theamjadjamousable I *think* it's down to back pressure of water inside the roller chamber against water in the sump. When the roller is set deeper, the water flows slower through the inside of the roller, which triggers the float switch more often. Raising the roller means that water flows more quickly through and down the outside of the roller, meaning the float switch is triggered less often. The water level inside the chamber actually stays about the same, but it just rises more slowly the higher the unit is placed.
      A side note though, I've noticed more of a trickling sound as the water runs down the outside of the roller and into the sump. Not an issue for me, as my sump is in a different room, but could be an issue in a living room type environment ...

    It is not that easy in real when the roll is dirty and connect to the other roll, it is absolutely not so easy in the contrary!you should do again a video where you show the reality.Also you did it in a wrong way for the new one which can mislead people, change it please. The roller also eat incredible amounts of roll when it stands in the sump and not attach on the glass, this is a serious issue as not all configuration enable you to suspend it!

    • @ReefDorkXtra
      @ReefDorkXtra  2 года назад

      You just undo the end piece then pull it off - the centre of the loom collapses so the roll comes off easily. It's easier than the other options on the market imo.

    • @geoffhunt7965
      @geoffhunt7965 Год назад

      As someone stated earlier, your pick up roll is wound in the wrong direction and I agree that taking the old roll off is not as easy if it wound up tightly. That center part doesn’t actually “collapse. “

  • @sparkelende

    • @ahoyskid
      @ahoyskid 2 года назад +1

      You’re right. The waste side of the roll is spooled the wrong direction. It doesn’t run parallel with the box to give a good seal. The waste roll should go up and around the back of the core. Waste side trapped between the next progression also keeping smell down.
