I've seen many in my state in México but it's damn expensive. I'm thinking of selling my PS4 (it's on 7.55 so it has homebrew) and my really old PS3 (the very first model) and it's games and controllers (after dumping them of course) so that I can buy a PS5; it has retrocompatibility with PS4 games anyways and it'll run them all better, without making as much noise. This also means we'll be able to install user made patches such as the Bloodborne one so we'll have 60 fps Bloodborne on PS5 without Sony making us pay more for a new enhanced edition. And we'll be able to install Linux on it too, so playing Steam games is a posibility, with proton and such.
I’m reminded of something I heard about capcom awhile back. While making mvc3 an American branch warned the Japanese branch that the games data could be hacked and people would find the dlc characters already on the disk. The Japanese company responded “why would someone do that? That’s illegal?” I have to wonder if this is how most Japanese tech companies see cyber security, just something not to worry about, thinking no one would ever hack their hardware or software based on some honor system.
TheFlow is a very fantastic and incredibly skilled hacker but after following him and his work for several years now, I can almost certainly say "have more hope in Team Failoverflow". TheFlow is a developer with a lot of common sense. As a one-man-army, he knows better than to recklessly release mods for a current-gen Sony flagship.
No doubt Sony is trying to actively contact these group to "buy" (under a bug bounty program) the 2 methods so they can patch it. If that does happen we should expect to see a release of these methods with 6 months.
One of the things I really like, is porting my game (Rockbot) to consoles. After the console ends if lifecycle, I hack them and try to get the SDK and build and adjust the game for it. My next target is the PS3, I have already ported it to PS2, PSP, Wii (gamecube would also work, I do believe, something to test in the future), Dingoo and Pocket Go. Other people did it for Xbox original and Dreamcast. This is really fun, and porting is great for learning a few tibits that are nice if you enjoy knowing about little/big endian and such.
Ok some small things. first off this is an evolution. we have had web kit exploits since basically day one but this is the first kernel exploit.. or at least fw level hacks. It's a chain you have to run, so we have been able to bug out the browser but not much else till now. But yeah as you said discovery phase, getting into the console is coming along nicely, now we got tools, dev environments and homebrew to make. There is A LOT that goes into the backend of this and its coming along nicely from what i'v seen. All root keys, for the exploited console. From what I understand it's the same as the switch where the root keys are different for each console. It's still gonna be easy to dump them but it's going to be on a per console basis, not a one and done we have all the keys ever. But yeah I think they are / we should just wait for the next firmware update to hear any more about this, if it gets patched in the next ofw then cool, if not then it will still be dark.
Just came to say props to you for covering it cause it’s really interesting. But also props to the ones out there finding these exploits on consoles over the years for us idiots who just wanna play some homebrew.
I may has something to do with the recent AMD PSP Security Prozessor Vulnerability which has been disclosed. And if it really relies on this flaw then it is an Hardware LVL Exploit and can not be patched without new Hardware Revisions.
I am keeping my PS5 offline in anticipation of what these exploits will accomplish. Thankfully none of the games I want to play require later patch levels.
It'd be interesting if you devoted a video to talk about the legal implications of their job, and how do they deal with Sony or the other big brands in order to not get in trouble. Thanx and congrats, Good channel!
Backwards Compatibility is definitely a link, right? Especially since the webkit exploit had different effects on each firmware. Very quick progress nonetheless!
The guy who unlocked the frame rate on Bloodborne on a PS4 Pro maybe could do it again with a hacked PS5 now? Going even higher than 1080p on the PS5 via backwards compatibility.
My reaction when seeing MVG's PS4 hacks video on my recommended page: "Oh that's pretty cool!" My reaction when seeing MVG's PS5 hacks video on my recommended page: "LOL WTF?!"
The fact that these two independent leaks going on Twitter to announce the exploits means they already have what they need incase Sony begins the inevitable firmware patching in the future.

Just give all hackers chance to find exploits while there is limited amount of affected units. -> mass produce consoles with all security fixes for years without easily available exploits. Well, that's hilarious that it took less than a year to exploit the PS5, while the Xbox One STILL hasn't been hacked. Whatever Microsoft is doing to maintain the security of their devices is clearly leaps and bounds ahead of what Sony has been able to do. It took hackers several years to exploit the PS4, so this is just some sloppy bullshit. That said, it actually raises the long-term desirability of the hardware--so maybe it's a silver lining, assuming that Sony isn't losing their ass on hardware sales, and was hoping to make all their income on the software side of things. Microsoft is all about getting people signed up for services like GamePass and Xbox Live--hell, there's apparently even a monthly subscription plan that includes the cost of their latest hardware, assuming they have some in stock to sell you.
8:33 "...for now guys, stay on 4.03 if you can". Sure, that would work out just fine until you buy that future greatest and shiniest PS5 game you just gotta try out, but then it complains that you need to be running firmware version 5 before it lets you play it. Manufacturers have been using the idea of forced updates as a way to leverage in forcing its users out of an exploited version of a firmware. A user can, of course, opt to stay in version 4.03 "forever", at the expense of missing out on future games at the gains of being able to do things with the PS5 that normally it would not be possible, such as running Linux, emulating older video games consoles (N64, NES, SNES, etc), but at that point, the user ceases to have a "PS5" as in not being able to play the newest games anymore, at that point, the user has a "computer", an overly glorified PS5 "computer", at that point, I would much rather build (or buy) a real computer with good specs and do whatever I want to do there with the freedom that no one, no corporation would be acting against the best of my interests in preventing me of using my own hardware the way I want that I paid for. With the PS5 using it "that way" there would always be the added stress in the back burner that, in one day, one way or another, you may lose the ability to continue to use your PS5 "in that way" you enjoy right now shall an "update" install itself, you exercised your warranty and got back your PS5 factory upgraded to the latest firmware, etc...
@@NathOnGames That also means games won't play in the future if your CMOS battery is dead. Since that was addressed with the latest Firmware. And potentially newer games will not work on older firmware. This was however the case with the PS4.
4:57 You don't need specific homebrew, it's just an x86 PC! (and a very powerful one). It's enough to get Linux running on it, then BOOM, you get Steam and any x86 software that already runs on Wine/Proton, plus native Linux software and emulators. Of course, the lack of drivers would be the main concern, especially for 3D acceleration. I'm curious about how the unified memory could be managed on a Linux distro tailored for the PS5.
@@B1akTang1dH4rt A PS5 would make a very good PC, even without taking into account the current scarcity. On the ps5 they took out the browser app. However, you can access this browser app via the settings. In a future update they will take away access to the browser entirely.

Taking the first steps towards preservation of these games!
Really? With a console this new the only reason this is happening is to either play pirated roms or even pirated ps5 games. Only the people that discover these are interested in the achievements and the preservation of games. And good for them. I really respect that actually. But 98% of people just want to pirate some games. No hate, im just saying

Yes there is overlap with piracy, but once some of these games are gone, they're gone forever.

Quite possible
Steaks were made. So exciting! Can’t wait for your upcoming videos on the topic. Truly awesome video of yours as always.

Yeah because it's made by Microsoft. They know they software.

Sony:well our security has been breached Kratos get them
The fact how bored you sound basically sums up how corporates react to completely destroying a person's life whenever it benefits them. Spot on mate
