Yeah, cats are cool coz they're aloof but they'll hit you up to cuddle or for pets every now and then. It's just a really small furry human, especially with how smart they are.

Yeah he needs some time to get the kitten out of him. He’s an orange tabby, and they’re usually a VERY affectionate breed. A couple years and that kitty will be in lap, makin biscuits & drooling.

My orange cats have all also been lap cats, once they get past the extremely hyper kitten or as Link puts it "military training" phase. 🤣 Usually you only get lap time from kittens if they happen to get sleepy while playing around your lap. So hopefully Sokka eventually decides that he wants to chill in Links lap.
@B.R. V. can confirm. I have an orange female and she always bites me when it's play time. She's always has the zoomies at like 2 am too lmao. I love her.

Once he isn't a kitten anymore, he'll calm down a lot and be much more accepting of love. He's just in full learn to attack phase, all kittens go through it.

Just depends on personality type. Some cats crave more attention than others. This kitty might not end up as affectionate as Jade, or he just might. Just depends on personalities

I know everyone in the comments has already said this, but Sokka isn’t attacking, he’s playing. He’s young and doesn’t understand that he can’t play with humans the same way that he would play with his siblings. We don’t have layers of fur that protect us from bites and scratches. The reason Sokka attacks something like a foot is because he sees it moving under a blanket or something and assumes that you want to play. It’s difficult for him to see the difference between a toy that’s made for a cat and a human’s fingers. To him, they’re all just things to play with. And that’s okay, he’ll learn and grow out of it.
Yeah. And on the flip side, we are so much bigger and stronger. We could literally end thier life with just a little bit of force. When mine bites and attacks...I just scoop her up and squish her a little. Just so she knows who is boss. (I think she secretly likes it though) lol.
The key is to wail and cry, let them know it hurts.
@@niseplank4527 I have heard that depending on the cat, they might find the reaction satisfying. Like a prey animal screaming for its life. It might encourage that behavior.
@@niseplank4527 in my experience it's best not to react at all and not move when they bite you. They'll eventually just chill out and let go of you.
I grew up with multiple cats. I find it funny how Link seems almost afraid of this cat, but in the video the cat gives him slow blinks and shows him his belly, so the cat really trusts him. I think Link will come around eventually.

Hey Link, as a cat owner, I gotta say the best thing I’ve ever done was get clumping tofu cat litter instead of using traditional clumping clay cat litter. Less dust, better clumping, better for the environment.
Also, Rhett is right. Cats were never really domesticated like dogs. They aren’t pets like dogs. They’re more like companions and equals. They give and receive love on their own terms, just like people. So give Sokka some time to get to know you and get to know him as well. Y’all will be fine.
Does link really not recognize that’s he’s so active and crazy because he’s still a baby? The cat is the equivalent of a toddler right now. Very hyper and curious

Dear Link you are approaching the kitten trough the eyes of a dog owner. Cats are amazing in their own way and they can give you a lot. Give it time and try to think out of the box. For what i am seeing he adores Jade they are gonna be great friends

As a cat person I hear all the negatives and go “oh but look at his wittle face!!!!”
Life changing cat raising tips:
- Get him used to regular nail trims as a kitten & you’ll save both your furniture & hands!!!
- Keep regularly picking him up as a kitten even if he’s squirmy right now, as he grows up he’ll be way more content in arm
- Invest in at least 1 tall cat bed/tree in a central area of the house so he can hang out with the fam but have his own little spot to feel safe & spectate from

I have owned several cats in my life and never once cut their claws. Is that even ethical?
@@spookybarns 100% yes. Not to be confused with declawing! Its just a millimetre trim off the tip where its sharp, takes 30 seconds & the cats don’t even notice its gone but my arms certainly do lol
Also getting scratchers around furniture they choose to scratch to give a better option that they can actually destroy.
Necessary to look up how to hold cats, they're not fans of the baby holding because they have the instinct of protecting their bellies.

I was defensively like "he's more than that, dammit!" He's a goof through and through, but make no mistake he is among the most capable characters in the Gaang for many reasons.
Guys, the cat is on his “the kitten phase”, all cats go through a period of time where they’re kinda crazy, they have a shit ton of energy they might not know how to retract their claws, or even bite you because of their teeth hurting, this is something compared to the toddler phase, very normal!
My first cat was adopted when he was a kitten, he used to literally chew my fingers and I tried to play with him without interacting much with any body parts because he would attack them, after a year or two or of having him he became the sweetest most cuddliest cat, every night he climbed onto my chest and slept only when my hand was on his paw
Yes! Once they stop attacking your feet in the bed they're moving out their kitten phase haha.
Something I see a lot is when people use their hands and feet to tease/play with the cat. That's the worst thing to do because it encourages biting and clawing. Seeing that just drives me nuts 🥴
hearing link talk in a negative tone about the kitten while the editors show videos and picture of said kitten has me like 🥺😭 how can you not love that thing with your whole entire heart!!
Your best friend right now: trim your cat's claws. Especially now while he's a kitten, get him used to it. So much less pain and furniture damage. Get some kitty nail clippers.
Also you can get cat nail clips, so he can’t tear up furniture.
It just takes time. Sokka seems to be interacting with Jade VERY well in those clips, and Jade is just learning her boundaries of playing. My Luna is just over a year old and when she't not sleeping, which she does a lot of, she's 100% full speed. Cats are just maniacs. I love it.

Hearing Link talk about his kitten; he's expecting it to be fully grown as a baby, it's like expecting a child to know to drive at 8 years old. It's halfway there, but it'll take a little more time.
Declawing: They literally sever the cats digits at the first knuckle. It's as if the first segment of each of your fingers was to be cut off and then the nail often still grows under the skin, causing tremendous amounts of pain to the cat. It's barbaric.
It as well as tail and ear docking is banned in most countries because of how cruel they are, yet many places in the U.S. still allow them. Do that to a human and you get arrested. It's bullcrap.

Just cut their nails regularly like a normal person. I cut my cats claws once a week or once every second week depending on how often it’s needed.
“I’m opening my curtain to expose my kitty” is going to be my new go to phrase when I’m bored and want to spice up a conversation☺️

Purring is a sign of content and happyness. Basically it's the cat saying I'm happy here
They also purr to self soothe in stressful situations, I didn't know that for a long time!
@@amberjensen2288 I have a rescue from the Carr Fire and after hearing this a year or so back I realized that was what she had done when we pulled her from the people who had her. The house was like an animal hoard and even though they were trying their best, it smelled like ammonia. Her toes are like fused together as well. She was purring by herself for a long time and I never understood why, she was always scared and hiding for at least a year.

Cats are amazing. When they are given love, they give it back so much more. Rhett has only met badly treated kitties. Loved ones are basically living stuffed animals. Link!!! Get the Litter-Robot.
i just bought the little robot. i love it. i have 3 cats. my old man 18 year uses the old littler box and my 2 babies uses the the little robot.

Yall need some vertical surfaces for him to climb, cats like to be up high and they will find a way to do so, it helps if they have their own safe place to be up high that is specifically for them
Some friends had a cat rescue, & the ginger cats were the ones who would walk the rafters all day.
Yes! Carpeted shelving for them to climb and nap on are available and look good. You may want to check Sokka's hearing. I have a vague memory that male marmalades have a genetic disposition to deafness.
Yes a tall cat tree would be good! My cats love looking out of our windows, either in the windowsill or sitting atop of a cat tree and peeking through the curtains

yes I have a three legged cat that will get into my neighbors back yard from my back yard over a 7' brick wall, and walks along the wall in her little inchworm gimp. it's the cutest thing

And not all kitties purr audibly (both of mine are silent unless the room is 100% silent), so that's something to appreciate..
I’m a recent cat owner, and even got him as a kitten. I definitely feel for you, because I agree they can be pretty crazy when they’re young, but also remember when you get them as babies/toddlers like that they didn’t really get all the time they needed to be fully socialized with their momma and sibs. So Sokka is still probably learning the vibes of what’s too much and not, and will eventually start chilling out like our kitty did. On that note though, him interacting with Jade and being so good with her is a great sign you have a kitty who’s happy being there and is getting all the social interaction he needs. Trust me, it might not seem like it on the surface but cats are super social and emotional creatures.
Kittens are like toddlers and little kids. They overturn everything and too crazy and tough to die. But if you spend more time with the kitten it will see you as their best friend and be more open to you.
Link, you just got yourself a perfectly standard, BORED kitten 😉 you need to really play with him until he pants and is exhausted to make sure that he doesn't use his extra energy to shred your couch or plants! You'll notice he'll also sleep better and longer, and will be more prone to cuddle. Check Jackson Galaxy's vids/books to understand ✌️

I've seen a couple comments like this but I'll reiterate: he's still in hyper kitten mode! He'll likely mellow out a bit as he gets older.

Kittens train to be adult cats and cats are predators that hunt their prey. They enjoy tracking, stalking and chasing down their prey and they need these these exercises to satisfy their mental needs, no different from dogs needing to 'do work' or 'do jobs' to satisfy their mental needs. It only makes sense that a cat's play time is the same as that. I'm glad Jade is there to play with Sokka and it seems like he has a ton of toys :)

After years of living with cats and more recently kittens, if they are in “play mode” you can’t get them to be cuddly. They will see your hands and assume that you are playing with them. If you tire them out first they will be more willing to cuddle with you. You’ve just gotta be aware of which “mode” they’re in. As they get older they will mellow out much more too.
He is a kitten! He is a kid and he is exploring what being a kitten is all about. He will calm down when he gets older

I'm a single guy and I love my little dude. Always nice to come home to em just waiting on the stairs for me to go to my bedroom. He just walked in the back door when he was a kitten one day and decided to stay.
Cats arguably tamed themselves. The prevailing theory was they actually decided to start living around us for the safety and access to food. To help this along cats were believed to have selectively bred themselves to appeal more to people, be less aggressive etc.
But honestly this time next year when he's out of the kitten phase Link is going to love the cat.
Link is gonna become such a cat dad.

I can’t get over the fact that she named the cat Sokka. That’s so adorable.
The human equivalent to declawing would be trimming your fingernails by cutting off the fingertips. There is a good reason it shouldn't be done.
Cats are great. Keep going, he'll train and it'll surprise you. I trained mine to use the scratching post by holding the cats paws and gently making it scratch the post. You won't see gradual progress necessarily, it'll just stop doing the undesired thing eventually. Cats are sensitive and there are lots of plants and things that are poisonous to them. Also, it looks like Jade and Sokka are good for each other. The videos are precious.
Never thought I'd see the day Link voluntarily welcomed a cat into his home😺 Relieved Jade has accepted him and they're making friends! The footage of them playing is too cute😊

My little feral gutter Gremlin made herself at home in my bedroom within a house of 4 people. She NEVER purred or sat in my lap until the 2nd day we moved out together into a house by ourselves 6 months later. She's sleeping on my lap right now 😍
Ah Link (; it's a kitten so it has a load of energy & it is the time when in its life when it is awake it is time to explore and have adventure. When it is a little older and as he gets older he will do more of the cuddling and sleeping on your lap!

@Jenny Sama I agree, but it's also spreading wild misinformation about kitten ownership. There's enough of that already! I was really sad after this. My whole life has been rescuing cats... and Link just dismissed a whole species of animal because they don't act like his neurotic dumb dog. Sorry. I said it. Dogs are not easy to own and are not any smarter than cats!

I'm not a cat person in any way, but I think Link is misinterpreting Sokka's play in a big way here. Honestly, even with dogs, play is training to hunt, so it seems more aggressive than it really is. Those two actually play really well together. That is one of the most loving forms of play I've seen between a small dog and a young cat.
Kittens are always SO full of energy and they calm down when they get a little older, one of the best things anyone could ever bring home, ❤❤💖

They have a plastic cover that you can slip over the claws, it will save your furniture and skin. The cat towers, will be more interesting if she adds a bit of catnip to it, that will bring him to it. Right now he’s a baby, and it will take time for him to learn the rules of the house. Remember when Jade was a puppy she didn’t know the rules to the house either, and it was hard teaching her how to behave.

It’s illegal in a lot of states. CA was probably the the first to outlaw it. Any competent vet will refuse to declaw - it’s equivalent to cutting off your toes.

Jade and Sokka are going to be the bestest of friends. They're already incredibly playful with each other.
As soon as Link realizes that Cats and Dogs are totally different in how they show affection. He will start to be more comfortable around it. Edit: I also find it pretty ironic that the supposed cat hater (Rhett) actually knows more about cats than Link does XD

My experience is cats start mellowing out after 2 years old.
Cats bring you prey because they see you as a kitten who doesn't know how to hunt.
That's what humans assume, but we have no way of truly knowing why other animals do what they do, and it's arrogant as heck to think we can.
These are mostly kitten problems. When it gets older and you get it fixed, it'll chill out a lot more.
As someone who has grown up with cats my whole life, it's so funny to see through Link's eyes. A person who seems to know NOTHING about cats at all, and is so bewildered with normal cat behavior. I forsee him becoming a cat lover after a few years. 😋

I mostly exclusively listen to the audio, but I just had to see the kitten. Lol
So much of the relationship with a cat is respecting its boundaries.
I lived with a cat that belonged to someone else and I just thought it was a paranoid and not affectionate cat in general because it was a rescue and may have been abused. Every guest would try to pet her to prove they were "good with animals" and she was pretty tolerant but definitely didn't like it. After a year of living with her and leaving her alone, communicating with her and listening to what she was telling me, she was very friendly to me and the person I lived with because I taught him how to listen to her. When he moved I ended up keeping her since we had such a strong bond and now she acts like a dog and loves belly rubs, greets me when I get home, and she cuddles with me all night.
Yes it took a year to establish trust and two-way communication, but it was so worth it because I know she feels safe and all the love she gives is real!
In about 12 years when links cat is an old fella and on his last legs he’ll be grateful for ever getting the cat and will be upset as if he lost one of his own.
