I’ve have had or at least been around cats pretty much my entire life and besides one or two that were uniquely cool, cats are awful. They ore objectively awful. It’s been proven by a study that cats don’t even care when their owners die. feral cats have led to an extinction of a species of bird in New York City. They kill for sport, not for food, which is also a fact. I loved cats as a kid but the more I learn the more I hate them. Lol

I've been around cats my whole life and they've been nothing but sweethearts. Do you show your cats affection or just feed them and pretend they don't exist like a lot of others? Maybe the problem isn't with the cats and moreso with how they're being raised around you.

Orange tabbies are one of the sweetest breeds. My neighbors used to have one, Coconut, who would just jump the fence and come chill in my lap. I’d give him belly rubs and head pats and he’d just curl up, purr and nap and want to hang.
They moved away about a year ago. I’ll miss that cat. One day I’ll get a cat and I hope they’ll be as chill as Coconut.

For 18 years I was like Rhett, I didn’t really care for cats and strongly preferred dogs. I met one outside cat for like 30 seconds, and after that I’ve only started to love cats more. Rhett confirms my theory that anyone who doesn’t like cats hasn’t really met a cat 😂
Many cats won’t love you right out of the gate, but it takes literally maybe an hour or a few minutes with a regular outgoing comfortable cat. Yes orange tabbies are very friendly and I hope the lost one isn’t gone forever, but I hate when people who never interact with cats, meet one, and then think only this one cat is nice. 😂 literally if you’re not mean to a regular domesticated cat, they’re gonna eventually like you even if that’s in a few minutes or a few days.

    • @austinpatrick2682

I was like that too. All cats can love humans. But the outgoing dog-like cats are the best way to bridge the gap for a person who doesn't think they like cats. My first cat was such a cat. My second is a classic self-centered cat. My personal growth on the subject is now complete.

Give your kitty it’s best life, indoors. Long story short... I once was strictly a dog lover and only a cat tolerator. Then I found a helpless kitten that needed rescuing and she was convinced I was her human. She gave me no option but to love her. So I kept her. She acted just like a loyal affectionate dog and loved me to death her entire life. Just when she had completely made me a cat lover I lost her in death at only 6 months old. She changed my life for the better. But dang it I miss her.
Rhett, dog-like cats do exist, it blew my mind when I found mine. But they are so vulnerable. Next time you find one don't hesitate to step into it's life, wether that means making sure the owner puts a tag or chip on it or keeps it safe inside, or if it means making it your own pet, whatever is appropriate in the situation.

    • @celticlass8573
      @celticlass8573 3 года назад +11

I agree with you on raising kittens right. You do get the odd cat who is the stereotypical "type" of cat, but it's been my experience that most are quite loving and affectionate. I was thinking about this when Rhett was talking, that when I raise my cats, I treat them with respect, but I also make it clear that I'm the leader of this pride. Everyone talks about how canines are pack animals, but it's not really all that different with cats--they need a hierarchy in order to know where their place is, and who is in charge. I'd wager that 99% of cats with "behaviour problems" are like that because, like children, they aren't given proper structure, and it's stressful for them.

My boyfriend's neighbours cat was a wonderer, he used to sit with us all the time. Then when covid hit my boy friend stopped stroking him, so the cat stopped visiting. He asked the cats owner where it was, who sadly informed us it had moved out to live with an old lady a few streets down who is notorious for coaxing kitties, but he said he wasn't going to demand the cat back because the cat was originally some one else's and had wondered into the neighbours house a few years back and never left! His original owners told them to keep him too! Wonderfully loving cat 😻

You'll find a sweet cat again, Rhett. I hope this has opened your heart to how rewarding it can be when a cat loves you. 🤗 There are plenty of very social, loving lap cats stuck in shelters. Maybe fostering cats could be in the cards for you!

Ahhh yes! I think fostering cats would be a great thing for Rhett. Or anyone. People will judge cats on common media tropes, where they’re always presented as mean or aloof. In public settings, people might run into a feral cat or stray, so it’s hard to actually spend time with a cat unless you have one lol.

I live in a somewhat rural area where it's normal to let your pets wander unfenced and untethered. When I moved to suburbia for a time, I was horrified to see pets wandering around. When the road (and your neighbors' pets and evil kids) are right there, it's common sense that your pet is in a lot of danger. I'm not a supporter of outdoor pets, but our cat has lived outside for over 13 years. She grew up in a barn essentially and I trust her to take care of herself. But a "city slicker" indoor cat in a suburban area should not be allowed to wander. Especially not a sweetheart who doesn't know how to spot or respond to danger safely.

If you cuddle your kitten and spend a lot of time with them and get used to curling up on you and to be friendly, they most likely will be. Agreed :( unfortunately that’s what happens when you have a cat that is very affectionate and loving, and you let it be an outside cat. A very loving, affectionate cat that receives constant love can’t defend itself properly in the wild; they don’t understand the concept of danger or assessing possible threats because they’ve never known it. :( unfortunately it’s the way of the wild; and “inside minded” cats shouldn’t be allowed outside unsupervised. Cats can live perfectly healthy happy lives inside. with plenty of exercise through playtime and exposure to sunlight via kitty window seats or screened in porches, kitties have everything they could ever need

Those types of cats aren’t actually that hard to find. I used to have a cat that LOVED water and would try and swim in the water bowl, and we always joked that she was a cat-dog. Not to mention, all she wanted was affection and to hang out with you, much like my dogs. Unfortunately we had to give her up at a shelter, and it was truly heartbreaking because she was such an amazing cat. I guess a bright side to this story was that she was adopted within just a few days of being there, so I’m glad she found a person who loved her so quickly and didn’t sit there for a while.

They should definitely have a collar. I have 2 indoor cats now, though when I was younger one was indoor/outdoor and the other was a stray I tamed.
The indoor/outdoor cat had a breakaway collar on for 1 day and when he returned home he was frantic, the collar had somehow come between his mouth and pulled his jaw all the way to his chest and never broke away. I'm not sure if someone did it to him or what but it scared me so much that neither of my cats have worn collars since.
Instead, I keep them indoors at all times, though I live in the city now. I also paid to have both cats microchiped, which is a good thing to do even if you use collars. Collars can come off but a chip is in their body forever.

I have 13 cats & they all have their own personalities. Your idea of a “regular cat” (& that being a negative thing) is bc you’ve had experiences with non-socialized cats, or cats that are apprehensive to new humans. If you’ve had a cat since birth & show it love, it will love you! Most socialized cats are playful, affectionate & loving. But cats also have different personalities, some are extra loving or extra independent. Cats are just less inclined to blindly trust humans, like dogs. 🐱

Outdoor cats don’t always wear collars because cats are very explorational creatures and collars can easily get caught on sticks, fences, or other point objects. Cat experts recommend a looser collar or an elastic one so they can easily slip out. Also, that cat was NOT feral! Feral means it has learned to be confrontational and is incredibly ANTI-social. This cat obviously belonged to someone, but cats are much more intelligent than we give them credit for, and they often return to their home once they can no longer find food in the wild. @Rhett many, if not most cats are affectionate you just have to let them be affectionate towards you first! This is the common failure of dog people because they had one over-affectionate interaction with a disinterested cat and now think cats hate all humans. There are lots of cat misconceptions in this episode... maybe that’s why you think you don’t like cats

  • @phalanxproductions89

Rhett's feline story is eerily similar to one I had, also with a ginger tabby cat. At my old place of work one day showing up for my shift, I had a ginger tabby just pop out of the bushes nearby, run up to me and meowing/doing its cat thing. I thought it was odd at first. I'll always chose dogs over cats, I don't hate them, I just wont want one. This same cat kept popping back out whenever I would drive my car into the parking spot, day after day. It was a weird experience because this cat was so friendly and dog like, that, just like Rhett, i also considered taking it home, I'm certain it was a stray. I ended up going on a short family holiday soon after I met this cat, and when I came back to work, the cat was gone! Never to be seen again.
I actually was mildly disappointed that it was gone. Cats always seem to be happy to see me, wherever I go. My friends cats will always chose me over other guests lol

There was 7 kittens to begin with, eventually the mom cat left them and i had developed this obligation to these animals i had sworn i had disliked. Everyday, one more cat wouldn't come back. Until only 2 are left. 2 boys. Some how they have become our outside feral cats; and I would be so sad if they do not come back. And when I find myself worried they haven't "checked" in, I internally say "I cannot believe I care about a cat!" Lol

I've been waiting for this day. I love Rhett but his hatred for cats has always disappointed me. I wanted him to find a cat and fall in love.

I am a lifelong lover of cats and a 7ish year watcher of gmm. Ive never had a problem with Rhett not liking cats cause i always knew he'd just never met the right cat. Glad to see thats changed. Love you guys, thanks for the story
