- One of the real issues X-Men fans have with Marvel Comics new relaunch is the lack of good creative talent. Especially the volume of bad comic writers is the X-Men demise waiting to happen. The final hope many X-Men fans had was the writer of Wolverine. Turns out hopes are a fools game for Marvel Comics fans. Saladin Ahmed is writing Wolverine in X-men From the Ashes and Mark Russell is writing X-Factor. Wes breaks down the new writers on Wolverine and X-Factor and explains why this is the worst case scenario for X-Men fans. X-Men demise, the deadly grip of bad creative talent.

Apathy is the feeling. Most X-Men characters are broken beyond repair and others are just loved mantles hijacked by lame wannabes
Yes,why play the "heroes" after Krakoa?Don't make any sense.
Krakoa was a wild decision. Would have worked should they have kept Hickman's to keep it short and sweet. It's common for villains to turn a heel and heroes go dark. Krakoa damaged the X-Men like nothing ever did anyone before.
@@daydreamer1010Agreed
Every Marvel and DC writer are now practicing for that Netflix gig. Comics are no longer a destination but a stepping stone.
You mean an IP FARM! but yes, like you said, a stepping stone and a means to getting a Netflix or Movie deal!
I'd send Wolverine on a mission to Weirdworld to retrieve Frank Castle. Make it a buddy story requiring them to fight their way back to Earth...
“Bad creative talent”? No, the correct descriptive is “no talent hacks”.
So sad that they can’t get good writers for Xmen.
X-Men is a walking dead franchise after Krakoa Era. Even great writers cannot fix these characters anymore.
It's almost like little to no writers wanted to use X-Men characters in new stories knowing they would still carry the entire Krakoa baggage into the relaunch which makes them not that likable or would allow much creative freedom.
All the good writers have been aged out at marvel and all that's left is average writers who look better that what they are when compared to the tini howards and cantwritewells of the industry..
I think I’ll pass on Wolverine fighting racist cereal
Marvel: hear us out… evil frosted orange man flakes saying make krakoa grrrrrrreat! We have Wolverine going reeee! On the baddies! Yay!”
Fans: 🤢 🤮
I been looking at my Marvel Essentials and it seems even some of the most lacking stories of the sixties, seventies, and eighties still appear like classics compared to the drizzle we get served today.
90s was a second golden age
I feel like even as mediocre as some of the 60s stories might have been, they are just as good as some stories today. Once you got to the 70s basically all the comics are better that 99% of the comics that come out today
Agreed. Though I would say the 70's & 80's are the BEST ones
@@maxmazzotti6651agree, and yet strangely most 'modern' fans act like it didn't exist. They'll tell you to go from Claremont straight to Morrison???
Wes, you reminded me of my favorite meme of all time. Picture shows man with angry face, shaking his fist and yelling. Headline says:
“Man who agrees with mass media, Hollywood, academia, and the government still thinks he’s part of the resistance. “
How does he remind you of that?
@@garycannon4644 sorry, that must have been unclear. I’m talking about something he said. Something about how being punk in todays day and age is very different than what it used to mean or something like that.

I can only imagine a "Thrilling" story of Logan encountering an old flame of his that no one has ever seen and was never mentioned prior to this, and he is willing to take Logan back.
And that man is Sabertooth
@@rootfish2671nah, Sabretooth wants him DEAD!
His Daredevil sucks. Not holding out much hope for Wolverine
Toms new era is going to be a disaster. He is needlessly antagonizing Krokoan fans in interviews. He is starting a new era that ain’t traditional or radical enough for either side. And he got a subpar creative team.
Really feels like the X-men much like DC are spinning their wheels waiting to see if the movies takeoff and give them a direction
X-Men in New Orleans .. Wolverine goes solo in Canada, no .. hang on, he's in New Orleans, no.. no no, he's in Canada. Impressive level of networking .. surprised we just don't have a third Wolverine comic and it's the other side of the world where he talks about his feelings to customers while running a coffee shop.
Look forward to the episode where you discuss the new "Talent Tax" initiative from Marvel, where remaining customers will be expected to cough up more for top talent they supposedly employ.
this continuity issue started with Bendis mid 2000 when he was on both X-Men X-Force, New Avengers plus his own title...horrible!!!
@@alexc8873 Ah yes, the era where they didn't want you to think about things too much or you'd realise how daft it was getting.. just be awed by coolness, shhhh.. don't think, be awed. Bonkers.
This just proves that the X-Office continues to be a huge mess even under Brevoort tenure.
I am kinda glad this is what is happening with X-Men and I feel we are gonna get the same from DC after Absolute Power. I need to save some money!
You forgot "Blood Hunt", where there are at least 54 - 60 something tie-ins! 😅
At this point all you can hope for from Marvel is "solid". If I can get solid Wolverine, I'll run with it.
his last Daredevil run was boing. I re-read them and I still don't remember what happen
Yeah it’s pretty bad
Zdarsky’s Red Fist Saga feels like the end of the entire daredevil series to me. The ending was so damn satisfying. Anything after that I’m taking as fan fiction.
Calling it now. Saladin Ahmed will revive/resurrect Persephone and try to position her as Wolverine's greatest enemy. I don't have high hopes for Wolverine in the From the Ashes era.
Soory, but Persephone, the mutant who resurrected him in the 1st place, is NOT in this new era! (at least for NOW...)
I just finished the new Blade series. It was pretty bad.
By far my favorite thing written by Saladin is Spine Tingling Spider-Man, which stands out HARD compared to the rest of his work. And the writing was just slightly above average, heavily carried by the artwork. Not much faith at all for Wolverine
His Black Bolt limited series was also very good
I feel old wolverine came out the same month and year I was born we both turning 50
Used to be a huge Wolverine and X-Men fan. Could care less about any of these announcements. There's not one book that I would actually spend money on.
I propose a crossover, NCIS: New Orleans with GAMBIT! Let the good comic roll!
XCIS
Oh yeah! Wolverine #1 will be $6.99 with 10-15 variant covers, including a Foil and “Red Band-Polybag” version. Not interested 👎
It’s not just Marvel though, DC has the same problem. The only great DC writer at the minute is Jeremy Adams. Clone him. Not even Scott Snyder wants to write an Earth Prime Batman anymore.
No, but Scott is going to, reportedly, write this new imprint or universe, also rumoured to be DC's own 'Ultimate Universe', supposedly called 'Absolute comics'!
Generally I agree with your views on this new upcoming era of XMen, but I’m of the opinion that Mark Russell is a very good writer. I’ll pick up most of his stuff tbh.
Superman Space Age was great, Batman Dark Age has started very well, two of the most original takes on these characters we’ve seen in a long time.
Travelling to Mars was possibly my favourite book this past 12 months m. Not All Robots, Deadbox, Snagglepuss, The Flintstones, Rumpus Room, Billionaire Island all good books, and I know be forgotten a few others.
I don't have any hope to any these new titles. Ahmed Daredevil run is boring no way he can write something good with Wolverine. I never read anything write by Mark Russel so I can give a true opinion if this X-Factor new book will suck. I disliked this team line-up with former villains. Where's Strong Guy,Wolfsbane and Madrox? Every new title we have many X team being very different without any cohesion. What mess this relaunch are being.
Strong guy, Wolfsbane and Madrox are presumably gone into hiding /underground, since post-Krakoa, mutants are hated and feared MORE THAN EVER
The former villains you mentioned have more or less somewhat reformed and are NO longer villains, for the MOST part
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw Pyro was a villain before Krakoa.
@@EvandroACruz I know. But nowadays, not anymore
I'm interested in x-factor. I'll give it 3 issues & see, then.
X-Men, set in upper state New York, about a school for Gifted mutant kids, that also contains the "graduating class", The X-Men.
Daredevil, a blind lawyer working for the little man in Hells Kitchen, and at night he's fights that which the system frees, as Daredevil, the Man Without Fear.
Wolverine, lone gun agent, set free on a global mission. Traveling the world, fighting the darkness while fighting his own.
There, that's three "fixed". Who's next? I'll do this for free, Marvel.
So Dok unfiltered must be where he says fuck 1 million times instead of just 500,000 times
It's unedited versions of our video recordings. He's really long-winded, so I normally cut a good bit of info out for RUclips.
Even with the edited version, the word "blowhard" keeps popping up in my mind.
The only things I’ve read by Mark Russell are Superman space Age and Batman, dark age, and they are both very good. I haven’t read his other stuff and I am guessing that’s what you base your low opinion of his writing on. But it’s hard for me to imagine that his other stuff could be that bad because the Superman and Batman titles I mentioned are great.
His Snagglepuss and Flintstones miniseries are also VERY good
Is a bad moment for x-men.wen the woke era end the x-men comeback.🤞
Tom Brevoort: "Hmmm. Who can I get on X-Factor to replicate some of that Peter David vibe that everyone loved?" Picks up phone. "Betty? Get me Mark Russell on the phone. STAT!"
And... in the words of Drew from Comics Elite... SCENE!
X-Statix-Factor is the only book that even sounds interesting.
The Hardest thing that Modern Comics Book fans will have to do is give up the Silver Age heroes. But the Golden Age can still be saved.
Awesome work mate
i am going to wait and see what happens.
I don't have any hope while Marvel don't erase Krkaoa Era from the canon.
@@EvandroACruz I can understand that

Let’s give Wolverine a “slice” of life story….I’ll see myself out.
I've moved over to My Hero Academia, and I don't think I'm coming back to Marvel comics. The MHA community might be a bit weird, but I'm here for the stories, not for the shippers. I follow your channel and even go to my LCS periodically, but Marvel comics have been so disappointing I don't see another opinion. I just can't spend anymore money on this trash.

Ugh, that gave Pyro that stupid face tattoo.
That's the kind of tattoo everyone unfortunate or stupid enough to get it would spend a lifetime regretting and wishing it gone or like getting it never happened... Just like the Krakoa era.
His Black Bolt sucks
Why? It was GREAT!

Sometimes i just can't stand this negative thinking. let's judge the books when they finally arrive. if it stinks, then yeah criticize them. I'm still excited for the launch since I am a die hard xmen fan, although I will not buy everything in this relaunch. Just the core x-books, xfactor xforce and wolverine. That is enough for me.
What was the point of this if they're not going put everything back like it was?
They don't want to undo the achievements they got from Krakoa. So the phrase, "Putting EVERYTHING back into the toybox" doesn't seem to apply to them here! 😅
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw You can't put everything back into a toy box when said box was so viciously mishandled by the new players it was given to, it has become just dissociated planks of wood. The sturdy nails, the foundation and lore of the franchise, are gone.

Which creative talent did you have mind? Who are they? Where are they? Is it really worth a top-notch writer's time and energy to work for Marvel or DC?
I recognize none of the artists you listed. Are they more foreign artists with no texture, drawing on the pc, with heavy color dropped on the art? My guess is a resounding yes! lol…That is except for the Spidey artist now drawing an Xbook. Unfortunately X covers previously shown on this channel makes it look like he’s pulling back on detail in order to draw a team book. Is that where we are at in 2024? Where even great artists have to pull back on their work to take on an X book? This harkens back to the days where artists were paid extra to work on Superman because the book was so bad. X books now mean the artist won’t do his best work because there’s more characters to draw? Tell me I’m wrong. lol!!! What has happened to the Xbooks and Marvel??!! They used to be the pinnacle of comics!!! 😢
There's no more X-Men after Krakoa.
They have fallen and gone downhill
@@EvandroACruzthere are, just not the ones you know and love anymore and completely unrecognisable

You enjoy watching Dok suffer, we enjoy watching you both suffer, and all of us enjoy watching Marvel and DC sales suffer for hiring these insufferable writers and editors, and they enjoy watching the fans suffer as they mangle their favorite characters to piss them off.
It's the Circle of Schadenfreude 🤣
This is bad to Dok mental health.
@@EvandroACruzbut Dom doesn't seem to mind it😅
If they really wanted to make something for everyone, how about this. Some Moira reincarnation thing happens, and we get two universes, one where Krakoa never happened and one where they are all still there.
Two comics, one about Krakoa, with cults, sacrifices, everyone bi etc, and one comic with, y'know, actual superheroes having adventures fighting bad guys, robots and aliens etc.
Just an idea 😊
They're not that smart to pull it off or think about a simple concept like that.
What is the point of this? It's a combination of trying to continue the Social Justice Warrior Non-Player Character P.C. B.S. and trying to make a big profit with multiple X-Men titles being published. It's not only contradictory in both motives, but it's also pointless because the activists and the company learned absolutely nothing from the mistakes that they had made over the past 9 years. This is going to fail miserably and they have no one to blame but themselves.
Perhaps. But there are still die-hard X-fans who are still sticking with them despite said faults, many of which who are now X-men fans because of the '97 cartoon currently showing
Your hair looks good Wes! 👍
Sad about the writer but i do think Martin Cocolo is a great new artist. He was amazing on banner of war and good on thor witch i guess hes off now? Thor isn't that good BTW.
I think Thor is hilarious, the entire thing is a giant f u to Marvel and editorial doesn't even realize they are being mocked by Ewing.

Wasn't a superstar writer what helped revive the X-Men last time? Jonathan Hickman was a reliable architect. Now they are just throwing a bunch of failures and nobodies at wall hoping something sticks. What about any of this is meant to win back fans?
By going back to basics, but no going back to the mansion
I'm down for the return of X-Factor, and Havok once again leading the team. Other then Krakoa's X-Factor, it never felt right to have a X-Factor team without Havok. His been slowly getting it together, so hopefully his train wrack and being in Cyclops' shadow days are over. But the idea for X-Factor being celebrities sounds familiar? Didn't they do something similar when they had X-Factor owned by a corporation back in 2014. Either way, I think with the whole X-Men Unlimited Infinity's Fall of X/Externals nearly over. It would be wild if they kept it going by adding Gideon to the story. And I don't mean continue the XMUI story, say for a mention, but moving on and have something like he had secretly bought the X-Factor rights. And maybe have it where his once again playing at being human, and is secretly using the team do unknowingly do various things that seems to be for good but really is only good for him. I think if told right it could make for a really good story.
Marvel needs to reset ceo, reset editorial, reset writers...fuhhhhhhhk just fucking reset already. 😔
Nope. There is no plans for a reset. They already had one and it's called Secret wars back in 2015
I disagree with you about Geoff Thorne. Geoff is a really good writer.
Not seeing a contradiction with Wolverine. Fail Simone's Uncanny X-Men isn't happening. Doesn't exist. WORK WITH ME HERE! :P
wonder what Havok we get with X Factor the Krakoa era one or the he going back to his kind of Heroic roots with him feeling that he is always in Scott's shadow .. Wolverine is a good character but how can he be in 2 books at once in a month and sometimes it was more in the old days when Wolverine left for a side quest in his book he took leave from the X Men . depends how they use Wolverine in his solo book it may work or be very terrible i wouldn't mind seeing Old Man Logan return or maybe a story arc where he goes back in time to the Period where he died and he goes hiding in Canada could work

Wolf 359....it's an audio drama. Pretty fun sci-fi.
dc gives batman good writers, superman good writers and spider-man gets good writers at marvel. WHY CANT MARVEL TREAT THEIR #2 CHARACTER WITH RESPECT?
Because misplaced priorities?
Wolverine is the best at what he does which, in the relaunch, is multitasking from how he'll be in two different runs in two different locations with objectives and views that directly antagonize each other.
Inside Logan are two Wolverines : One wants to hang out with his friends in the US and the other one wants to live in the Canadian woods forever. And sometimes...
They both collectively pester Nightcrawler into being a taxi so he can do both of those things in the same day.
Maybe there are 2 Wolverine clones now.

Dood, Brevoort is not thinking anything. He's NOT ALLOWED TO. His job is to sit there and take all flak you and other YT creators throw at him. Saladin Ahmed thinks he's the SuperStar, that's how Marvel decides who gets to do what. Brevoort is your punching bag. In fact, you could just call him the King of Doofuses, as you did with White, using the exact same script. Which AGAIN is proof that you got fooled into blaming the wrong guy.

I’m not going to lie I’m kinda interested in this but with him being on another team book and how this could not turn out like black bolt… I don’t know.
You think maybe capulo was hired to just do covers on all the xmen books? I mean as variants?
I agree entirely- especially in regards to Mark Russell. I was excited for the Superman House of Brainiac special and boy, did I feel that book was such a monumental rip-off. I'm still trying to decide if I want to finish House of Brainiac because his story was so f**king pointless and godawful I just can't even. I was expecting superhero action and instead I got post-modern political activist bulls**t. Steve Pugh's artwork was completely wasted on that story. Sorry, I know we're talking X-Factor but I heard "Mark Russell" and it triggered me. Screw that guy. I'll have to keep a sharper eye out and avoid his tripe as well. Absolute waste of money and time.

I can try to defend it by talking the original 1980s run written by Bob Layton, but I don't really believe it's going to be anything inspired by stuff like that. They lost my hope for the relaunch on free Comic book Day, when Jubilee put a car on fire just because the owner was a big0t, way to go making them less of a big0t🙄

I collected Ultimate Spider-Man from the beginning, stayed on through the Miles era, and eventually dropped the series during Saladin Ahmed's run because it was just boring. Been collecting Wolverine for even longer. I'm hoping the same thing doesn't end up happening.
Thanks for the warning ⛔️. Wolverine is by far my favorite Marvel character. Now, I have no interest in the upcoming title due to writing being a raging antisemite. I’m sure his new villain will be some of Zionist or something like that.

What kind of question is that? Isn't it obvious?😂 Ultimate universe, of course.
I don't like either Earth-1 or the Ultimate Universe. My favorite other dimension from DC Comics is Earth-2. My favorite other dimension from Marvel Comics is Earth-8410. Too bad that both of those alternate, divergent, parallel universes have been erased, and totally wiped out of existence. 😕😑
