    Thanks for the hand holding. I have been fighting with a PX4 that I thought was not sending data but following your guide I now have full OSD, woo hoo!
    Next step install it all in the Bix3.

    Thanks for this video i was wondering how the 12v was going to connect to my 5v eachine fpv..turning the whole board into 5v is great. now i need to convert the eachine plug and play system to what you have shown. hope it will work. thanks again. love your tutorials.

    Lee: Is choosing PAL or NTSC (for USA) under video options important? I have a jittery overlay and video from camera is stable.

      +Derr Nav One gives you more lines, the other a faster refresh rate. You normally need to make sure that all of the pieces in the FPV system have the same settings to work well. You can usually tell quite easily when you haven't as you don't get a stable image!

    using this workflow, is there a way to add geotagging to an on screen display? for example have a center dot and the lattitude and longitude of that center dot? (perhaps also a grid square of 9 dots with lat / long?).
    Then if the camera is a gimbal, changing the direction and angle of the camera would update the osd of teh center dot's lattitude and longitude?

    • @Painless360

      It's not something I've seen. There are geotagging options in Ardupilot but the stuff I've seen is more for tagging images at the location they were taken... Happy flying

    Are the "in/out" on the MinimOSD actually ins and outs? AFAIK they are connected together, so a simple "Y"-harness between cam/VTX/OSD is enough? I have a Aomway camera with backpack, but it does also have the connector for the VTX exposed - so I could wire it up to a OSD.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 лет назад

      That's the way I've always connected them and they work great. The MinimOSD is overlaying the text into the video signal so there needs to be an in and an out.. Happy flying!

    • @nordemoniac
      @nordemoniac 7 лет назад

      Hmm, maybe you're right. I can see the ground and VCC are connect together, so that could be simplified.
      I might be confusing it with my Mini OSD, or "G-OSD" where there is no in/out, the signal are just spliced together

    I have the 3DR 915MHz telemetry module and was thinking I could just split the wires from the APM so that I have a telemetry feed going into both the MinimOSD as well as the 3DR telemetry module. This should work OK shouldn't it or will there be too much drain trying to run both devices simultaneously?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      Andrew Smith This is a common thing for builders to try. The issue is exactly as you describe with the load on the output becoming too great. I have seen 'buffer' circuits to allow this but never used one myself. Best of luck.

      I have an APM2.8 running both the minimosd micro, plus a 3dr telemetry module. But for the osd the only connection i made to the telemetry socket on the apm was the tx, i run that to the rx on the osd. I powered the osd from a separate 5v supply independent from the apm. This way i have had no issues. At first i used the splitter cable that came with the telemetry kit which powered both the telemetry module and the osd from the telemetry socket on the apm, that caused problem with both the osd and telemetry module. Since powering the osd from a separate supply i have had no problems.

      As Jon has already said, if you get the right cable you can follow this and the other video that covers the MAVLink radios with APM Mini 3.1 (ruclips.net/video/0lINt4hv5tg/видео.html) to add them both to the model at the same time. You do need to watch the signal level from the Tx pin from the APM as having both devices connected can pull the signal level down to a point where there can be errors. Seems to happen on some boards and not others.
      As a side question, all of these videos are done for free. Would you pay to see that video you want? I am considering offering a subscription service for requests and one to one support.

  • @johncarr123
    @johncarr123 9 лет назад

    Question: Why did you split the ground from the transmitter by going to the OSD then to the Camera? If the entire board is being powered by the 5 V bridges what is the use of splitting the ground? Why not send the ground directly to the camera and just run the video in and out to the OSD? What am I missing?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      Why do *you* think they might do that?

    • @johncarr123
      @johncarr123 9 лет назад

      Only thing I can think off is isolation for noise.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      Think about the instances where there is one huge battery powering the model and another smaller, dedicated battery used to power the FPV system. In that case having a common ground for both systems is essential and ensures correct operation.
      Hope this makes sense.

    • @johncarr123
      @johncarr123 9 лет назад

      I trust you. Still a little fuzzy, you proved it works so that is the way I will wire it.

    • @Painless360

      Jon, even the very latest version of the MinimOSD board (www.hobbyrc.co.uk/micro-minimosd-for-naze32-with-multiwii-osd-kv-team-mod) is wired this way with a GND and Signal both in and out.
      Interestingly the latest version of the board *has* done away with the 12v power connection - maybe I was onto something ;)
      Happy flying!

      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      Gašper Kolenc They are and with improved options for fonts and features too! Sadly these teams developing the firmware fro the MinimOSD are working on each project individually and you tend to find that a lot of the Multiwii/Naze32/Flip32 versions are evolving faster as the community is more active and there are more boards out there.

      But when I look in my FPV goggles, the voltage is floating from 11.20 to 11.43
      And it's always the same values, even when the battery voltage is on 10.7 the goggles are still showing between 11.20 and 11.43

    +Painless360 any issues with the Micro MinimOSD loosing its memory of panel layout after flashing? It seems as though firmware and character updates take to the board just fine, but for some reason after all systems boot, it reverts back to the original panel layout. I've tried powering the board with just USB 5V and the UAVs own 5V regulator, it seems to forget both times. I've also tried two different Micro MinimOSD chips, which then really just points to the firmware. Maybe you've got a link to some latest+greatest firmware?

      +Painless360 I found the problem, problem was that i was powering apm from my ESC and it seams that it was to low power for everything. I have added UBEC 5V/5A and now it works. But now i have another question. Is it posible to get battery voltage on screen from two vires GND and +5v, or i have to use APM power module?

      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      If you are looking for the battery voltage to be displayed in an OSD and on GCS then you need the Power Module. Best of luck!

    if this is connecting for telemetry port. where should i connect my telemetry. how to use fvp and telemetry at the same time

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад +1

      The answer is - not easily. If you add both then the signal can be pulled down and both the telemetry devices can't clearly 'hear' what's coming out of the port. You need to choose one or the other or look to add a signal buffer. This is why the Pixhawk has more than one telemetry port. Best of luck!

    I’m having an issue where I select Rtl on a toggle switch and it’s not being displayed on the osd. I’ve connected the apm to ardupilot and selected rtl threw the transmitter and it registered in the software. Any reason for that? It displays stability and FWBA modes fine but when I select RTL it just show the last mode while in rtl

    hi painless.
    a quick question.
    my minimosd works fine and does everything it should but only after the telemetry link to ground station is started.
    I can stop the GCS and it is fine but it seems like the telemetry is required to start the messages flowing.
    any ideas what settings make it work?
    I dont want to take a laptop each time I fly but I do want the osd.
    cheers

      You're lucky to get them both working from the same Telemetry output at all. The output on the APM wasn't designed to run two devices at once..

    I wonder if you have come across my problem with the MinimOSD on an APM 3.1. On powering up the craft 'Arducam OSD V2.2' appears, then a booting up message, then 'Requesting datastreams' and then the correct OSD overlay appears for 1sec and then disappears and the message 'Overspead 45m/h'
    stays on with the camera image. I have two MinimOSD boards and they both do it?
    Do you have any ideas as to what might be going on.
    Many thanks again.

      Just a quick note in case somebody else has the same problem: Swapped Tx and Rx cables and got message waiting for Mavlink heartbeat. Swapped them back but no improvement, on a whim swapped them back again but this time swapped again with the system live and the OSD stayed up. Powered down and and back up, hey presto comes on every time.

      +PAL- GATE I'd suspect that you have a setting on the OSD to blank the display and it's using that channel to activate it.. if check the OSD settings. I think we cover this in one of the APM series.. best of luck!

But on OSD screen I do not see rssi icon and value but in ArduCam I placed rssi. Do you know how I can fix this issue? Maybe need other firmware ? Not arducam-osd ?

    hi, is it possible to do mavlink and osd for fpv at the same time on the apm 3.1? couse its using the same telemetry port on the board i guess its not possible?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      jelle buyckx It is but you can't connect the tx line from the OSD. If you google the question you will find a few articles and even cables (i.e @111612298603) that let you do it but there are reports that having two devices on the APM boards can pull down the signals from the port on the APM and cause issues. Using one or the other works.

      yeah couse they sell it in a package... been looking for it and i have seen pics that they just connectet the rx and the tx of the osd and the mavlink togheter and then crossed it to the tx and rx on the board. thanks for reply. alsow do u know what power module is compactible on the v3.1 mini? couse i cant find mutch info on that. are they all compactible on 2.* and 3.* mini board?

      Hi, the ones sold as part of a kit should be right. The connector is different and the pinouts are different too - ruclips.net/video/M6OSp05Y5b8/видео.html

      can the apm 3.1 mini do the same things as the 2.* ones? ore dois it have let options/features? is it stupid to buy a apm 2.7 ore so nowadays?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      The 3.1 and the 2.7/2.8 versions are functionally the same but just come in different packages. I would always go for the APM 2.X if you have the room as they are easier to connect everything up to..
      Hope this helps.

    Why the voltage is 0 ?

    • @Painless360

      There are two small boards that people used to use back in the days when on screen displays will not installed as part of the flight controller. Typically called minimosd or micro minimosd, they were typically used to add on screen displays to pretty much everything. The firmware was available to support pixhawk, APM and other flight controllers too. See my videos on the Naz E32 and things like the Seriously pro F3 for more detail. Best of luck..

    Hello,
    Any advice on how to set this board up on a free standing setup? Say, with a KK 2.1.5 board just to monitor voltage? I have found the firmware that allows this here, but there are no instructions on how to do this. I have heard that a GPS and a compass can be used without a flight controller for return to home arrow, and a few other options.
    Any advice would be helpful

      +Painless360 Simple OSD solutions for the KK type boards. One with artificial horizon called a DALRC OSD, and one based on the older Remzibi made by tarot, but with no artificial horizon. Both have a GPS included.
      It can be done with the Minim OSD, ( with a compass gps for a home arrow) but there are always config problems, and hair loss.

    Also, here's my wiring diagram. I also thought it might be because I disconnected the 5V+ from the telemetry modem, but the board seems to power up just fine without that. I didn't want to pull to much current from that wire, so I connected the 5V regulator as shown directly to the battery. But perhaps that why the board cant seem to remember my panel layout? I'm using APM as my autopilot.
