For example a character like mkx mileena has great meterless damage, mix ups, options anywhere on screen and yet still I would place her around top 7-10. Just because certain frame traps, pressure, cancels, hard to blockables, looping offense and zoning are stronger than raw damage. Also look at things like mk1 subs back2 it is his most damaging yet most punishing button, lots of time it’s left on the table because the risk of a punish is worse than the reward given. meaning more lower damage openings can be more effective than a few high risk high reward overheads. how effective and easy to obtain is that meterless damage? how realistic is the damage? If it’s too easy you end up with killer instinct tusk, if it’s too hard you end up with post patch mkx cyrax. Cetrion also did a number on mk11 from day one to the final pro comp, she has dust mites for damage but she played the meta so well.
You just told the whole truth right here. MKX Blood God Kotal Kahn had literally the highest damage in the game if I recall. But he wasn't even close to top 10 in that game, though he was a very strong character. And yes, Mileena hit like a truck in that game, but because she didn't mix/setplay people to death, she was ranked exactly what you said, top 7-10. Meanwhile in MK11, Robocop had virtually NO combo damage because he didn't combo people, but because he was an amazing zoner with a great mid and command grab, he was close to top tier after his buffs. And yes, you are all the way correct about Sub-Zero in MK1 - if you get too happy about using his B2 and don't have a Kameo to cover it, you're going to eat more damage than the combo you were hoping to perform. The best Kameo pairings for him are the ones that let him combo from his 12, 21 and F12 strings meterlessly because all of them are safe on block, even though they have gaps! The best characters in a game are the ones that play the meta the very best, no matter what damage they have.

In short, no. There's so much more to characters than just damage. Mileena can get 40% without meter and if we're going by that criteria, she's Top 5 in the game. There's so much to characters beyond just damage.
Shao main here. He can get 390 meterless and kameoless off of his f1 string. 319 off a stand 1 punish also no resource. He has bigger problems than damage lol

@@mrAPchem I think mid tier is pretty reasonable. He's got some amazing tools, he just struggles in certain matchups. Quan Chi and Reiko come to mind, at least those are characters I struggle against. I can't justify going any kameo other than mavado. He's just too damn fun.

I mainly use Havik, Baraka, Johnny but I haven't been playing Baraka as of lately because I haven't found a cameo besides cyrax to pair em with. I also wanna get rid of ladder anxiety and not ragequit and be able to learn from my losses but that's pretty much it

Nonetheless, I would say that perhaps it's not a bad idea for you to learn some more characters. I have 7 characters that I rotate between with my main one being Sub-Zero. But between those 7, I've constantly found things to be working on with each of them. For instance, with Kitana, I've been slowly trying to perfect my anti-air game, specifically, using S2 as my go-to with her. With everyone else, S1 is perfect, but Kitana needs to use S2 instead. After that, I'm working on switching between different combo follow-ups for her. Perhaps you may find a character that is so different from the rest of your roster that you have to engage with the game differently because of them. About rage-quitting let me say this: winning matches is not a sign of being good at the game nor is losing matches a sign of being bad. I cannot emphasize enough that EVERYONE loses games when you play FGs, whether it be MK, SF or anything else. The key is to understand what a particular game's meta is and find a character that plays accordingly while being fun and engaging for you. Doing that comes with time, experience and lots and lots of losses.
Kameo is used to make strings safe on block and break thru armor, the meterless combos are important cuz u want to save ur bars for combo breaker... thats how the pros and high ranked players play cuz everyone knows u can easily get 2 touched

It's hard for me to gauge precisely how to help you without seeing your gameplay. Nonetheless, I would say that perhaps it's not a bad idea for you to learn some more characters. Reptile can get over 400 with no meter or kameo. He's definitely not top tier
