      YES!!! But that's what Cole probably saw - people running around restating something he himself didn't even believe was true.
      And the reason? Pride. Pressure and fans and peers. A nebulous desire to be claimed as the 'King of Hip-Hop' by an ever-flaky fanbase whose taste in music is disappointingly dubious.
      That's why I respect him for showing us all how to man up and apologize for misusing his influence and after being conflicted.

      he can still be in peoples top 3 or 5 or whatever.. fine.. thats subjective anyway.. but in competition.. if u bow out.. there is no more trophy and u lose ur rank
      dont call us dumb cuz u have a different opinion.. that would be like me calling that video u linked dumb as shit cuz it was full of a heaping helping of cope and a lettuce-wrapped bunch of words that really added up to nothing more than a handheld word salad.. but nah.. i mean was exactly all of that.. but it wunt dumb.. its just how u eat

      @@rhymeswithcrayon I posted the link to directly address the narrative that you put forth.
      Under normal circumstances, J. Cole does NOT diss people, at least not in the insulting manner that is meant for battling or competing against someone. Any bars that he's historically used that could be interpreted as dissing were always used to illustrate a greater point and/or to help the person that he was talking about.
      So, no, he does not diss people virtually ever, until last week.
      And your assertion that 'nobody told him to make any diss record' is objectively false. Both him and Drake were immediately placed under pressure by both people in their camps and their fans - as well as music pundits and commentators. Not to mention, Cole himself stated that he got thousands of text messages urging him to reply, which is the antipode of what you said.
      Now, what you likely meant to say was that "nobody forced him make any diss record". That statement is objectively true, though it blatantly ignores the context of Hip-Hop tradition where it is expected that if a rapper calls someone out on a record, they will subsequently reply on the next record in a rapid fashion.
      Let's make something crystal clear - I'm not calling you dumb because your opinions are different than mine; everyone has different vantage points and will therefore draw different conclusions at times.
      No, I'm calling you stupid because the opinions that you do have are based on nothing more than feelings and beliefs, rather than objective fact, history, and/or observation/analysis of the person at hand.
      Objectively speaking, J. Cole has long patterned himself as
      a.) someone who admires his peers, Kendrick in particular, even going as far as to not only avoid dissing multiple other rappers that have taken shots at him like NoName, Lil' Pump and Lil' Yachty, but also to reconcile with them
      b.) someone that wants to use his voice to be constructively critical of Black people, especially men and himself
      c.) someone who does indeed believe himself to be the best rapper in the game, but proves that assertion by hopping on tracks with the best MCs and killing their verses with better verses of his own, rather than merely diss them on his own records and most of all
      d.) someone that prioritizes his internal peace above everything, even the desire to appear rich as other rappers do by buying chains/cars/etc. or to be perceived as #1 out of the "Big 3"
      Given those observations, it makes absolutely no sense for people to expect to behave like someone like 50 Cent would have when called out on the mic.
      Therefore, it is stupid for people to be upset at him for continuing to follow the exact behavior pattern that he has maintained throughout his career. That's the equivalent of buying a dog, watching that dog engage in typical canine behaviors and then suddenly being upset when the dog doesn't meow and use its litterbox properly.

      @mrAPchem all of what u said is undermined by the fact that he himself jumped out of the window.. into the ring.. lied in the booth.. then backtracked.. thats what me personally say is a wack move.. all the other shit sounds very well put together.. but it misplaces accountability.. nobody forced that on him (as u corrected).. but thats what tough "number one" talk gets u.. competition.. u arent muhammad ali without stepping into the ring.. u cant clean up the plate unless u step up to the table.. u arent numero u-n-o without that title being contested.. its not only rap tradition.. its life.. u put that energy out u receive that energy back.. we know he wunt like that.. pun intended.. heda lost absolutely no points had he responded in jcole fashion.. just made another verse bign dot up but at the same time asserting that he cant fuck with him.. it wouldve addressed the issue and kept him true.. but as funkflex so eloquently put years ago when talking about the pac shooting incident: "he LIED".. got on the track saying shit he knew inside wunt true to him (i actually agreed with some of it but whatever).. had days to sleep on it before puttin it out.. released it.. and then bowed out on stage on some sucka shit.. naaaaah.. we the people are allowed to say that shit was wack without being labeled as dumb.. if anything.. get back in the booth and make a backtoback.. instead this time.. say all that shit u said on stage in a rhyme or sumn.. the actions put forth were just wack.. not the intentions.. the actions.. it put us hiphop and rap fans in a tough spot cuz now we gotta either coddle to that fuck shit or be harsh and seemingly unfair in our assesment of a mf loved by the "community".. flawed and fractured albeit.. the shit cost him his "numero u-n-o" seat in the proverbial big 3.. a title he infact gave the most fuck about.. he still gon have his fans of course.. still a black man gettin money.. but man.. that shit was so undope.. word to bernie macs agent lol

    Anyone musically inclined like myself know that Kendrick verse was ass. The reason why j coke apologize is he has no actual issue with Kendrick. And that wacky Kendrick verse was for controversy because Kendrick didn't respond yet. Secondly he would had killed Kendrick. Thirdly when you a grown man you don't have to crash out because some fair weather rap fans want to see you crash out. If you like Kendrick you just like all the weird erykah badu shit he do

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  2 месяца назад +1

      I don't know if I'd go that far. Kendrick wasn't trying to wow people with that verse. Yet, it had that effect anyway.
      Also, as good as Cole is, it's not like either one of them would just massacre the other easily. They are both immensely skilled with their lyricism, so it would be very close.
      Nonetheless, such a back-and-forth battle simply isn't worth the potential risk of one of them being forced out of Hip-Hop because both of them are too valuable, especially now.

    Wrong. He dishonored the roots of Hip Hop.

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  2 месяца назад

      No, he didn't.
      The dude has consistently insisted that he's the best on the mic - when he does records with other rappers and kills them on their own song, not by doing 50 Cent-style diss records.
      Not to mention, there is no Hip-Hop rulebook that says that you have to diss people that you respect, especially when you've predicated your entire career upon praising legends and NOT dissing people that have criticized you previously.
      Also, let's be real, the so-called 'roots of Hip-Hop' have LOOOOONNNGGGGG been dishonored the moment that Hip-Hop went from being an underground sub-culture to being a capitalist cash-cow that is more popular than any other music type in the world.
      Hip-Hop was dishonored the moment that it downplayed the contributions of its female originators and used its influence to put Black women down instead of lifting them up.
      And Hip-Hop was dishonored from the moment that originality and lyrical skill were exchanged for monotonic conformity and mediocre bars from wannabe rappers that are merely using it as a gateway into their actual passions, rather than being lovers of music.
      J. Cole has nothing to do with any of that, and has used his art and example to make Hip-Hop better than how he found it.
      And this apology is yet his latest attempt to do so again.

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  2 месяца назад +2

      There's a massive difference between competition and beef. People weren't asking Cole to compete with Kendrick - they wanted beef. Competition is when two artists put out albums the same year or when they rap on a song and compete for the best verse, ala Eminem and Busta Rhymes.
      This was not the same thing at all. People wanted Cole to try to Ether Kendrick and vice versa - all for the sake of 'entertainment' and 'hip-hop'. When one of them dissed the other out of their career and hip-hop is all the worse for it because the two very best mainstream megastar MCs have both divided the fans into permanent camps and possibly harmed each other (lyrically or otherwise), then people would suddenly and retrospectively realize that the beef was a bad idea, especially in this frail state that Hip-Hop is in.
      I don't blame J. Cole one bit for skipping out on the bullshit that fans are spewing.

      1000% agree. Ngl I felt let down too but it makes sense. What exactly are they supposed to say about each other that wouldn’t be a blatant lie? Ppl keep saying it’s about the sport but if that was the case then drop the collab album and let’s see who has the better pen. There’s no way this could’ve remained civil if it went down the path it was going cuz in the end someone has to win. And winning is the eyes of the public means some low blows have to be thrown. Cole is getting ready to retire and if you listen the his raps whenever he bragged it was strictly about the music. No other “beef” in history has remained civil

      @@ItsSKthestupidrapper Actually, a lot of people did indeed want beef. They wanted Cole to go off on Kendrick so that he could finally try to supplant him as the head of the Big 3.
      They wanted a back-and-forth diss battle between the and were therefore dissatisfied upon hearing "7-Minute Drill".
      J. Cole woke people up from out of that wet dream and this is what has people the most upset.
      Some of the most absurd reactions are stemming from so-called J. Cole fans who are devastated that J. Cole is being exactly the person that he has depicted himself as - a person that pays homage rather than exhorts disses, a person that decided not to diss people like Lil' Pump and NoName on a record even after they used music to criticize him, even going as far as to regret putting out '1985' on KOD. This is the same man that even when he did criticize people like Kanye and Wale on a record, he never insulted either of them, but was complimentary and used their situations to try to teach a larger lesson.
      Furthermore, J. Cole has been very specific about the kind of competing that he likes to engage in - having the very best verse on a record with him and another rapper. He has repeatedly referred to all the instances of him out-rapping other MCs on their own songs and stated that people are afraid to put him on their records for at least the last 5 years. This has long been his preferred way of competing with other rappers, not going back and forth with disses.

      I'm not sure who exactly 'ya'll' is supposed to be, but news flash: J. Cole has never been the guy that uses his words to tear people down, so the idea of people whining about him choosing to not do something that he was never known for in the first place makes no sense.
      Even when Cole has been critical of someone, it's always historically been done from a constructive perspective, rather than trying to slander someone's discography and lyrics.
      Let's cut to the heart of the matter; you wanted to see a fight for the sake of entertainment, one of the people involved decided against it (because he has no actual gripe with the other person he's supposed to be fighting against) and you're mad.
      That's a you problem, not his. And this would be true for any other rapper in the same scenario not named J. Cole.
      In 2003, I was the guy that was egging 50 Cent on to diss the shit out of Ja Rule because he really was a wannabe thug that tried to fashion himself as a Great Value version of Tupac and DMX and failed miserably at being both back. That beef is the logical conclusion of two guys - and their managers/druglord finanical backers - disliking each other and having actual history.
      But in 2024, this fabricated beef between Kendrick and Cole has none of that history and would have a terrible effect on Hip-Hop if one of them dissed the other into obscurity. Mainstream rap music doesn't have the plethora of lyrical talent in 2024 that it did in 2004, so losing either Kendrick or Cole due to peoples' toxic and magnetic attraction to drama would be disastrous for the culture.
      Perhaps it's people like you that should be listening to pop music instead.
