    excellent raw video. well you did not sell me on MK on this platform thanks to playable being put into air quotes ha ha but you did sell me on street fighter on this platform. I’ve been looking forward to practicing on the go for a minute now, but have not purchased a steam deck yet. It’s on my to do list but I have to see how my favorite games perform on them so your video came right on time. Thanks for this.

      Yes, I definitely recommend buying a Steam Deck to play some of your favorite games. It's a great way to lab characters and practice setups/combos and whatnot.
      If you do purchase a Steam Deck, I'd recommend getting the OLED. Better battery, way better screen that is 90Hz vs. 60Hz, quieter fan, better feeling buttons, including the D-Pad and better thermals.
      I'm happy that I could help you with your purchase!

      That's not a bad idea, actually. There's two parts to it - one is installing the mod themselves and other is enabling them to be visible on the Deck.

    They should really recreate the game for the handhelds rather than just turning down the graphic settings. 60 fps is really important in fighting games. Like the Nintendo switch really shouldn’t have invasions mode as it can’t truly handle a game mode like that. And should have a new mode exclusive to the switch similar to the psvita. Or they could just port older games.

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  5 месяцев назад +2

      I don't know if there needs to be a handheld version, because the question would always be "based off of which handheld?"
      MK1 running at sub-60 fps is not a problem echoed by the other 2 FG giants - and it's primarily because their PC ports are much better optimized right now. If MK1 were better optimized, it could run just as good as MK11, MKX and MK9 before it. Those PC ports were awesome, even if some of them didn't begin that way.

    • @TonyJenn
      @TonyJenn 5 месяцев назад +2

      It's optimization that's the problem. Tekken 8 can 60 fps no problem on the steamdeck and that's UE5. Hell for as rough looking MK1 is on the switch. At least that port can reach the 60fps mark.

    • @mrAPchem

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  5 месяцев назад

      But it's not a locked 60 fps on all stages and you gotta run the game at 20+ Watts to get that 55-60 fps. This of course means you either need to be tethered to the wall or get an hour of gameplay on battery.

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@justswitched8841 MK1 doesn't run at a locked 60 unless it does so on every stage with all characters and moves with miniscule to no frame drops. Unless you've tested every single stage at 15 watts, do not make that claim unless you have video proof, especially when every other RUclips video of MK1 on the Ally shows a non-locked 60 fps.
      Also, I do not have an Ally - I've looked at numerous videos and articles detailing the framerate of MK1 on both the Deck and Ally and prior to MK1's 4/16 patch, the game did not get a locked 60 fps on every stage. MK1's framerate oscillated just as much on the Ally as it did on the Deck.
      If indeed MK1's framerate is a locked 60 on the Ally as of today, that's great! But that's only because of the patch. Before that, the framerate was all over the place and if it weren't we'd have seen it.
      Also, who mentioned anything about MK1 visuals on the Switch? I specifically mentioned framerate, which has been much improved from launch. Today, MK1 on the Switch seems to run at a constant 60 fps with the exception of when Kameos appear on screen. That's better than what we see on the Steam Deck and it's due to poor optimization of the PC port. Any talk about how poor MK1 looks on the Switch is well besides the point.
      The overall point is this: MK1 should run at a locked 60 on the major PC handhelds (Deck, Ally, Claw, GPD, etc...) like SF6 and Tekken 8 both currently do and it doesn't. Making tribalistic comments that aren't supported by evidence misses that point entirely.

    Do you think the steam deck is worth it if you primarily game on console? I don’t own a pc so was looking into this, but not sure how much I would be using it compared to my ps5

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  5 месяцев назад +3

      That question's answer largely depends on the types of games that you'd want to play on it. There are a handful of big titles, like Fortnite, Call of Duty and other games with Anti-Cheat software on them that do not run on the Deck at all, so if you primarily play those titles then it would not be worthwhile.
      However, if you play virtually any other games, or even want to play retro games on the go, then the Steam Deck (particularly the OLED) is far more than worth it.
      For me, that device is beyond well worth it. I can play literally every game from my childhood on one device anywhere I want for hours at a time, with upscaled graphics and any kind of control scheme that I want. For instance, I have Super Mario Wii, which famously couldn't be used with a controller because it had motion controls. Yet, I have motion controls set to buttons, so I play that game on the Deck as though it were made for it. The Steam Deck will comfortably play retro games from the earliest systems all the way up to PS3. They take some time to set up, but there's hundreds of RUclips videos that will help you set those games up easily.
      Additionally, I can play the overwhelming amount of my PC library on this device with great settings and smooth gameplay. I know you said you didn't have a PC, but you don't need one for this device. You can begin your PC library with the Deck and then get a gaming PC/laptop later and enjoy even higher framerates on those. Right now, I've been playing the hell out of Armored Core 6 and most of that gameplay was done right on the Steam Deck. When Ghost of Tsushima comes out in a few weeks from now, I will be ECSTATIC to play it on the go on the Steam Deck.
      One last thing - you can download free programs that let you Remote Play your PS5/PS4 on the Deck. Xbox titles mostly are already on Steam, so there's that.
      But all in all, the Steam Deck was a better purchase for me than my PS5 was - I use the Deck waaaaayyy more than the 5 because its library is far bigger. Plus, some amazing games that cost $70 on PS5/Xbox Series X/S cost $50 and less on PC.
      If you like gaming and want the flexibility to play anywhere you want, I'd say the Steam Deck is a must-buy.

    • @shakhaninja
      @shakhaninja 5 месяцев назад

      @@mrAPchem honestly what you just described sounds awesome and pretty much fits what I'm looking for. I'm not big on FPS or other huge titles aside from Mortal Kombat and a few Nintendo games. I originally looked into a steam deck to play MK1 on the go + all the cool mods for it and also to try out some PC and indie games too. I had no idea that playing retro games on it was a thing and if that's the case then I am for sure going to grab one. I'm not too familiar with emulators so if you don't mind me asking, what emulator do you use and where do you get your roms for these games?
      Also I noticed that you have MK9 on your deck but it looks like it was delisted a while ago, is that through an emulator as well or did you purchase it somewhere else? MK9 is the game that got me into MK so would love to be able to play that as well

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  5 месяцев назад

      @@shakhaninja So, emulation is merely playing old games on new hardware, typically in better quality than what was available back then.
      Each system has its own emulator but all of them are free programs that you can download and setup on a PC, phone, tablet or Steam Deck and other handhelds. For instance, to play Gamecube/Wii games, you'd use an emulator by the name of Dolphin, whereas if you want to play PS2 games, you'd use PCSX2. There's RUclips vids about all of that stuff, but that's the gist of how it works.
      The Steam Deck has a program called EmuDeck that will download and set up your emulators for each system you have. You would need to download the games yourself or dump your own roms but the former is much easier. The games can be found for free as downloads from sites.
      As for MK9, I got it when it was listed on Steam, so it stayed in my library. However, there are second-hand sites that sell PC games at discount prices. You can still buy MK9 from those sites and then add it to your Steam Library, which can all be done from a Steam Deck.
      What PC/retro games would you be playing if you had a Deck?

    • @shakhaninja
      @shakhaninja 5 месяцев назад

      @@mrAPchem I just checked out the Emudeck and I can't believe it has emulators for every single console, man that is so awesome. I'm going to look into this some more but thanks for giving me a starting point.
      And makes sense you bought MK9 before it got delisted, lucky. I see a few places selling some keys for it so I'll probably grab one of those and hope that it's not a BS key.
      And man, there are so many retro games I want to play. I never got to play any of the MK 3D era games so definitely want to try those out, probably will start out with Armageddon just for the massive roster. There's a bunch of gamecube games I want to revisit, the ones that come to mind are Mario Kart DD, Mario Strikers, Paper Mario, Resident Evil 4. I don't have any specific PC game in mind but I've seen a few that look cool. I think Hi Fi rush was one of them, but I believe it just dropped on the ps5. Any that you recommend?

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  5 месяцев назад

      @@shakhaninja Some of my favorite PC games at the moment are: Armored Core 6, Sifu, Spider-Man, Far Cry 5 and the soon-to-release Ghost of Tsushima, which is an absolute masterpiece of a game that is a MUST BUY in my opinion.
      If you love Mortal Kombat like I do, MKX, and MK11 both run flawlessly on the Deck. Injustice 2 is also amazing on the Deck as I'm sure its predecessor is.
      I'm happy that I could be of any assistance to you! I love the Steam Deck, emulation and Mortal Kombat and am happy to share their benefits.
