✅HOW TO TATTOO:✅ SOFT SHADING WITH A MAG NEEDLE!!! 👀 IN REAL TIME ❗❗

  • In Todays Tattoo Tutorial we will be going over how to tattoo soft shading with a mag needle. We will be watching as I use a 23 curved bugpin mag to softly shade the top portion of this tattoo. Its important to remember the different techniques for mag shading as we use most of them in this tattoo. I also want to stress how important it is to ensure you are putting those soft shades deep enough into the skin. It can be tricky when the skin starts to red up so be careful and take your time. I used a 23 curved bugpin mag, the CNC Q2 and ran my machine around 8 volts.

      @@ArtSomething hi I'm currently using a 17 curved mag,thanks to your videos my technique is slowly improving. Colour going in smoothly but slow, I think that's due to using a soft shader. The healing is good,no skin trauma or heavy scabbing, infact no scabbing atall!
      I feel now I'm using a toothbrush to paint a wall tho because working on a full sleeve. What needle size would be best, the 17 curved mag is too small, guess I'm ready to move up?? 23 curved mag might be OK but I feel I need more like a 43????

Really cool to hear the vids have helped you out my friend. I would say with round shaders they make great liners if you want a thick line weight. They are also great for tight areas. Pulling the skin taut under the target (vein) is one of the base techniques I was taught when collecting {venous} blood.
    I was taught that after the tourniquet was on, use the thumb alone or with fingers and/or the hand (depending on where my target was, what I needed and how much). I was able to anchor the vein and get in/get out with no problems 😊.
    I've seen some medical personnel use their thumb and index fingers on top of the target vein and then spread them like you would when needing to magnify the playing area in a game.... that is not a good technique, unless your goal is to bruise the patient.....if yes, then YAY, you've successfully done it, lol😃!!!
    I started this waaaayyyyyy back in 1989. I have no idea what they teach now 🤷‍♀️
    🙂 🙃 🙂
    Thanks for generously sharing your knowledge and experience with us all.
    God Bless! 🙂 🙃 🙂

    Hi Dave, thank you so much for sharing these lessons!! I am following you from Belgium 🙂🇧🇪 I have a question: do you use different shades of Grey with the same needle? Or do you have 1 needle for every shade? Or rince the needle with water in between?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 года назад +4

      Great to hear from Belgium!! And yes I use different shades of gray with the same needle. I will just rinse it out in some distilled water before dipping into my next shade, unless im moving from a light shade to a darker shade then I dont usually clean them out. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!! 👍👍🤘

    When you refer to your bugpin needles are you using 10s or 8s? I'm still learning what needles work best for me. So far for me the longer taper needles work better for shading and shorter taper bugpins for lining.

    Are you supposed to run at higher voltage for higher number of needles in mag?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 года назад +1

      Well the more needles you add the more power you’re going to need to push those needles into the skin. So you don’t have to up the voltage but a lot of times you’ll find it will help.

    I have a question ❓
    How do you tale 2 or 3 different objects or designs and blend them together.
    I'm going to do my own tattoo and my friends. I'm decent with lines but not so much shading or realistic tattoos.
    But i want Octagon filler pattern, with Flower of Life Filler and simple Mushrooms but don't know how to make mushroom 🍄 or Poppy Pods click well together with geometric patterns as outer filler.
    The Octagon pattern is a full filler for forearm and starts to digitally break away at the wrist towards the hand and up on the forearm it changes to Flower of Life pattern filler. I want the Shrooms and Poppy pods in spots like small circular or diamond tattoos but dont know the best way to put a Mushroom 🍄 or mushrooms on this skin canvas and look great.
    I'm trying to use simple stencils that are just geometrical single lines with solid black spots so it's not too difficult.
    It's really hard to find good poppy pod/mushroom stencils but its cool you showed how to hand trace them since i don't have a thermal printer. Do you have any tips for free stencils that i can print out at the library?

    Superb video! I had heard one artist say that with this traditional method of grey wash shading, that the pigments will tend to heal a couple of shades lighter.
    Would you agree with that? And is that something to be mindful of?

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 года назад +2

      They will heal a bit lighter but the whole tattoo heals a bit lighter so all the shades usually come out cohesive in the end. But it does take time to get use to seeing the gray in the skin and knowing how it will heal. That just comes with time. But its always great to have a follow up apt to ensure everything is how you want it and that it healed well.

    Awesome work man. Love your videos! When you did the trees (6:30) you say u start with a bit darker on top and then you use a lighter gray on the bottom.. Do you properly wash your needle in between the tones?
    Thanks man you are a champion

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I’ll dip into some water with the machine running a couple times, dry it out on a paper towel real quick and then dip in the next tone. You don’t have to go crazy cleaning them in between tones. Just a quick dip and some water will do the job.

    I have a question about the Q2 u use. How is the linework with a 7RL. If i use a 7RL with my machine, my handspeed must be verry slow to get nice lines, even at 8.5 volts. I use an EZ Astral. Thx

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 года назад +2

      The line work is great for me when using liners of almost any size but thats just me. It will take time to get the hand speed to power ratio figured out. 👍👍

    Hey great video!!! You said you were pushing on the needles at the beginning of the video putting pressure but being gentle. Does that mean you set your needle depth and then push to the tube or are you floating with pressure? Just a little confused about what you meant, as always thanks for the videos!!!

    • @ArtSomething
      @ArtSomething  4 года назад +1

      Thats a hard one to really explain so I will do my best. I would say the gentle part comes by not being in the skin for to long. You can back your needles up so you can pretty much ride the tube or you can through them out a little more and both ride the tube when shading and also brush as long as your "gentle" pretty much trying to be carful not to over work the area. I dont know if I confused you more or somwhat helped you out lol. I will try to make another video like this soon so I can try to better answer the question you have. 👍👍🤘
