  • Project 996 continues in this episode with the installation of some deviated blue seat belts to add an extra 'pop' to the interior of my Porsche 911 and to tie in with the new paint color. In this video we also walk through several other interior mods I currently have in the works... all leading up to the Rocky Mountains road trip I'm embarking upon in just a few months. Check it out!

    Doing all the little things to my new to me 996 C4S. I didn’t want to drop the 💰 on the Porsche classic radio just yet. I love the stealth of the stock radio and Bluetooth and phone mount, at least now, thanks for sharing that one. Maybe the console delete as well? Lots of little things but excited for spruce it up.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  2 дня назад +1

      I can fully appreciate the note about the stealth look for the stock radio. It's hard to beat in terms of its size. The center console delete was one of the best mods I did in this 996. It opened up the cabin so much, visually and physically. It no longer felt like a smaller classic car. Well worth the money for that one.

    @9:57 Will be watching if & how you replace door airbag cover. Almost always dented (thin aluminum) & leather worn. 👍
    Airbag stitching (main split) is very special to tear break based on the airbag specs, opening speed, & safety design.

    Hahaha - your assessment of boring interior upgrades are exciting to me. I’ve done a lot of the same and enjoyed the upgrades. My seat belt receptacles were super scratched & pink. Not great.
    At 6’0”, I’ve never really felt cramped enough to understand ditching the lower center console. But maybe for taller guys, it’s worth it.
    I also dig that you hung onto the 9 ELF plates for the 996!
    The stereo adapter is one I’ll look forward to for sure….

    Try Aerospace 303 Protectant. Clean your hard plastics, faux leather etc, then use this product to protect them and keep them from fading due to UV light. There are so many uses for this around the house and it does not leave a greasy film or feel. Take care.

    Hi, could you try to refresh your rear seat belts lockers? (Red plastic)
    I have heard it is possible to use a thermal gun targeting it, for a 30 seconds and they are okay)

    Nice video, you do 👍

    Very enjoyable, have you worked out why your gearbox failed?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  2 года назад +1

      The transmission bell housing cracking was most likely due to the engine and tranny being out of alignment, most likely due to the IMS solution install performed previously. We're going to try to validate this during the upcoming install.

  • @andyp9040
    @andyp9040 2 года назад +2

    Great job james! The seatbelts make a huge difference! Are you still thinking of getting the engine and gearbox fitted at a porsche dealership? Possibly something has been tweaked in the driveline that doesnt make them line up properly. Keep up the good work👍

    Hi James, when you installed your seat belts, did you get an airbag warning light? If so, what did you use to switch it off? (A Foxwell or iCarsoft?) Thanks! Your videos are super helpful and inspiring!

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Год назад

      Thank you!! Yes, you should be able to clear that error with the iCarSoft tools or similar. The issue could also just be the electrical connection for the airbag sensor. Try some bulb grease.

  • @randominternetuser2888

    Love your video but... how often do you have "people" in the back of your 911?
    So why not delete the rear belts or one of them because honestly only one person fits back there diagonally, possibly. You can always keep the belts and receptacle. Remember that porsche race cars were about ounces not pounds of weight removed.
    I recently got a pccm+ unit but haven't fitted it yet for my 996TT. Want to do deviated belts also.
    Suggestion for your door sills is to treat them gently with a heat gun to soften the scratches.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  2 года назад +1

      Good suggestion on the door sills, thanks!! My 3 and 4 year old boys like to ride in the back so until they’re too big for that, I’ll leave the rear seats and belts as is.

      @Auto Amateur my kids aged out of my 79 930 back seat so many years ago, one of them now owns a 986 S 😂
      Good luck in the rocky mountains in a few months. I grew up there, and there's great roads around there. Wyoming Teton pass 22 to Idaho 33 through Victor to the 31 to Swan Valley is an excellent drive over a mountain if you get the chance.

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  2 года назад

      Great question Michael! I'm planning to tinker with the old engine. I want to try to tear it down and rebuild it, learn as much as I can from it as a side project. If I screw it up, no worries. If I fix it, rock and roll!
