- Опубликовано: 26 фев 2022
- Project 996 is back for another episode and today we're installing a custom blue tach face in the center of the instrument cluster to tie in with the new exterior body color and the blue deviated seat belts. The installation process you see in this video is essentially the same for the 911 996 as well as the 986 and 981 Boxster / Cayman.
These custom tach faces are available in a variety of colors with customizable features from AutoAmateur.com/shop! Check them out here...

God how I have been waiting for this.
LOL HAHAHA
You stirrer.
The highlight of your 2022 so far, right Nick?! I knew it.
@@AutoAmateur you know James, maybe you could go to Connecticut and do a video of installing on the 993 cab
Excellent video, James, and very helpful!
Cheers!!
I like those letters say Porsche in the background very nice subtle but cool
Always nice when a video is available. I can't wait to see the refurbished seats & steering wheel !
Super easy! Thanks for the tutorial!
I'm so doing this mod!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome!
I'm about to start selling 996 guage faces again in the next few days. Stay tuned!
Looks good James… love the fact you making some great modifications on the 996
Super cool, looks good James!
Looks Great!!
Nice job.... would not mind doing this to my 991.
Awesomeness. Thank you.
Nice work as always. Ads a nice little pop of color.
Looks fabulous James 🙏
You’re so much more confident on the tools too
Well done
^ What he said. I'm anxious to see what you do about the engine and transmission.
Makes a big difference. Love it. Sorry Nick.
Another great video, James!
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
nice idea
I would have used Elmer's glue or a dab of clear silicone versus super glue, but other than that, well done.
Mine currently has white in the middle. Was thinking of going blue in the center to match the new wrap I put on, then maybe white for the others. Looks great.
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
I like it!
Cheers Dan!!
If you're doing a 997 version, can I suggest that you do one with a "Carrera" or "911" logo on it, (where the Turbo logo goes on the Turbo model). I always think that the tacho looks as if it's lacking something on the standard car.
Looks great - but you make it look so easy! I once took my instrument cluster off to change a bulb that had gone out on the oil pressure gauge. My blue/green/white plugs we SOOOOO brittle, I quickly aborted the mission. Chickened out, you might say. Maybe I’ll give it another shot. I’d like to have a yellow or maybe red tach face.
Excellent vid. You could have added a shot through the windscreen when you were unplugging the instrument gauges.
Yes, I was thinking the same as I was editing this. Good suggestion!
Love it!!!! I'll pay ya to do my 991 in red!!!!
Nice, James it looks like you may be keeping the 996.
Please let me know when you do one for the center of the 992 C2S. Thanks!
Any chance you might offer more than just the tachometer? Hoping also for a speedometer replacement along with the other dials in an alternative colour. Thanks.
Theeeeere it is
Looks great!…. Just wondering of any calibration issues since the needle was removed. Any idea?
Super nice modification! I’m looking for a (dark)grey one for my 996. Only for the rpm gauge
I have one! Send me an email!
Hi James, what is with your clock and I guess mileage reset buttons. they seemed to be brocken like in so many 996s. There is a company in the UK selling these buttons via ebay. Maybe another idea for a new project for your 996. Keep it up 👍
Hey James. I may have missed it but, Is it necessary to disconnect the battery? Thanks. Take care
Any future plan to do a complete set of all the gauges?
I can make them to order but I don’t think I’ll be doing them myself.
Great video, if I want to change the speedo from mph to kmh, not the digital, is it just to change to one with kmh?
Yes, it is
It looks super this! All blue?
Thank you Jaap!! Just the center, at least just for now...
My 996.1 cluster is completely different to disassemble, I’m in the middle of this process there is no t8 screws and what about removing the clock reset stalks? Your slid through the holes mine too wide.
Need one for a 991.1
Send me an email to contact@autoamateur.com ! I have several in stock.
Are the gauges faces still available? I clicked on the link and it said not found. Thanks!
Check this out… I just launched a brand new line of custom gauge faces with a new supplier. They’re awesome and there are lots of different options: www.autoamateur.com/product-page/100-customized-porsche-tach-face-8k-9k-10k-rpm-pdk-or-manual
Are these still available? I'd love to get a gray rev counter for my 996!
Sorry, not at the moment. I still have a few in stock but I’m on hiatus from taking new custom orders. I hope to be back later in the year.
Greetings
Trying to purchase red faceplates from your store but, no items coming up with a click on your link.
Thanks
I actually just launched a brand line of factory quality tach faces… lots of unique designs and colors, plus the option to completely custom design one for yourself. Check out AutoAmateur.com/Shop ! Let me know if you need any help. 🙌
❣️ ???????
Are the gauge faces no longer available?
Not at the moment. I’m currently transitioning to a new print supplier.
I went to your link and it said product couldn’t be found.Did you stop selling them?
I did. They’re temporarily unavailable while I find a new print provider.
It looks supreb! Followed the link but it was broken :( Please a new print supplier pops up soon 😢
Thank you! Sorry, I still have a few in stock but I’m on hiatus from taking new custom orders. I hope to be back later in the year.
@@AutoAmateur Coolio! Am keen with a blue tach face when you are back later in the year
Are you still selling these?
No I lost my print supplier unfortunately. Try Venoxy.com !
Bummer. I’m looking for a gold 996 tach. They only go back to 997.
The Alvin and chipmunks techno music is horrible dude.
Ha!! Fair.
Longtime viewer here on the verge of unsubscribing. As a 997 driver I feel slighted at the unavailability of custom color gauges for my pride and joy!😠. Patiently waiting for you to get that figured out. I have all white and would like to switch to black with a Speed (not Racing) Yellow tach and sport Chrono gauge. Also am installation guide. Or better yet, I’d like to use the Auto Amateur Professional In Home Installation Service. Here. I’m Texas. Have your people call my people.😉
