The 43mm Red Sea Dweller 50th Anniversary versus the limited production 116600 Sea Dweller

  • This a personal comparison of my new 43mm Sea Dweller 50th Anniversary with red lettering versus my limited production 40mm 116600 Sea Dweller. Although I love my 40 mm Sea Dweller I find that the new 43mm fits my wrist better feels lighter and less center mass concentrated. I also personally like the way the new one looks better. In a smaller wrist things might be reversed.

    I had the sd 16600 for many years it's amazing watch. I bought the new sub supercase and it was very uncomfy. Love the sd 43. Christopher I definitely agree with what you said, slight panic attack. Great video. Thanks!

    Milgaus is also engraved in the back, both the 116600 and 126600 are beautiful in there own right! I Love both and own them both as well as the previous, 16600 is great too, with its aluminum bezel and smaller hour marker and hands in super lumina... SD are great! No matter which one IMO. Enjoy!

      Titi teatea You are 100% correct and I realized it after I posted the video which I never edit. The funny part is that I own a Milgaus Z blue dial and I am very familiar with that.
      I love the SD line but never as much as now!

    I have a
    44mm Seagull Ocean Star which is only 13mm high compared with 17.7mm on the SD, and is also only £300. 28800bph movement which is +10 seconds a day.
    I have a seven and a quarter inch wrist and I love it.
    Such wrist presence.
    I love a cyclops. I am 73 and on a pension. I would have that big SD if I was wealthy. The Sea-gull is great, all in house including the movement of course and not a copy of anything.

    • @keithcannon3682
      @keithcannon3682 5 лет назад

      Pretty sure the seagull is a Rolex homage with and eta knock off movement.
      So the selitta was made off of thebeta 2824 and the seagull based on the sw220.
      If I am wrong please correct me here.
      I own a Blanchet deep dive 1000 and it has the COSC ETA 2824-2 elabore movement.
      A massive watch for a great price.
      It is actually modeled after a Rolex model (that turned out to not even be a real model) that was never produced.
      I think it was called the Rolex navy or something like that.

    116600 is the winner. First the 126600 is as big as the deep sea and has a cyclop which makes it thicker than it should be. The 116600 has got that classic look and is only 40mm and easy to wear

I am new to the hobby so my reviews are a far cry from a complete review with all the technical details but I try to express my personal experiences with the watches. AD is the way to go for the popular Rolex sports SS watches still in production. For the not so popular models (SS or otherwise ) is good to shop around a bit since most dealers have adopted a no discount or very little discount even on the models that don’t move well.

    • @thewatchenthusiast5729
      @thewatchenthusiast5729  6 лет назад

      Alex Alex you have to find an AD that will take a down payment for it and then wait for it to come in. Many ADs will not put you on a waiting list or will not accept a down payment for the watch even if they say they will put you on a waiting list. I personally don’t trust that. If they take a down payment or a full payment then I feel I am truly in some timely List and I can ask the my position in it. If not then I only have hope.

    • @beermansf9791
      @beermansf9791 6 лет назад

      Alex I live in San Francisco , the AD I went to is on the Rolex Website . The AD is in Fremont , no deposit required just got on the list . He called me twice I wasn’t available the first or else I would of got in 2 weeks . The second time he called me I didn’t waste any time .

      Jack
      I have 7.5”- 7.75” wrist so although I would agree with you that the SD43 is a watch on the large side is not out of place on my wrist. That wider bracelet makes the watch feel balanced both visual and in the way it distributes the weight adding a lot of comfort and stability to the wrist. I truly like the way it wears and feels on my wrist.
      The SD4000 is definitely a beauty and a watch that in my opinion has a wider appeal to most people versus the SD43.do to its size

    Great comparison. I am a big fan of the SD, and have one too. What made you buy the 43 when you already have a lovely 40? How will you choose which one to wear? Also, do you think Rolex will be making their professional watches bigger in the future? It seems to me that the larger size really flatters the utilitarian design of these watches.

  • @RobinDaelman
    @RobinDaelman 2 года назад

    I am wondering if you still wear this watch in 10 years from now. Time will tell of course. I have a vintage SM wearing this 30 years now and I love this watch even more like back in the days when it came out.

    • @thewatchenthusiast5729
      @thewatchenthusiast5729  2 года назад +1

      I think you are on to something. As things change in life (ie getting older) I look for simpler less in your face things . The SD43 is a beautiful big watch and as such is loud. I still have both watches but the SD43 is worn less and less . So it has been a thought lately to cut it out of my collection. Time will tell but I even though I still think is a truly robust and beautiful watch it might not be what I would want in 10 years .

    • @thewatchenthusiast5729

      It’s the true very first year of production dial ( only the actual 50th anniversary 2017 production) which does not have the coronet between the Swiss Made. The next year 2018 and after they do. Mine also was purchased on 12/2017 so it is definitely the true 50th anniversary.

  • @cg5482

    Curious is there a specific reason as far as comfort level that you removed the diver extension on the 43 but not the 40mm?

    • @thewatchenthusiast5729
      @thewatchenthusiast5729  6 лет назад +1

      C G I removed the diver’s extension for 2 reasons. One is a cosmetic reason. The SD 43 has a wider bracelet and the extension did not look so good texture wise. The other reason is safety. I have found the extension can pop open and the watch can easily fall off the wrist. This happened very often to me when I was trying to adjust the bracelet’s length in the adjustable clasp.
      When I was wearing it it would not happen unless I run my finger under the bracelet to air my skin during the day. Comfort was never a reason because I never felt more or less comfortable one way or another.
      The SD 4000 I don’t wear often anymore and it is more a safe queen than a daily wearer so I put it back on the bracelet. When it was a daily wearer then I had it off.

  • @SPQR-Z
    @SPQR-Z 6 лет назад +3

    If you have a larger wrist size then you can get away with the 43mm SD. 7” or less the 40mm is probably a better everyday wearer. Both are fantastic Subs. The 116600 was only offered by Rolex for less than 3 years and will be a sought after collectors model in years to come, guaranteed.

    • @thewatchenthusiast5729
      @thewatchenthusiast5729  6 лет назад +2

      I agree 100% with you evan h. Because I have 7.5” ( plus in the summer ) the SD43 with its wider bracelet and lug to lug distance is a good fit for me . It is still a large watch and definitely will not be for everyone.
      The SD4K can be worn by more people than the SD43 do to its size, it is the last SeaDweller that stays true to the form of its predecessors without a cyclops and the only ceramic bezel modern six digit SeaDweller without a cyclops. Adding to the fact that is the shortest production six digit model of any Rolex line up and you got something of a future collectible value built in.
      Besides all that, it is a very nicely designed, robust, beautiful watch.

    • @SPQR-Z
      @SPQR-Z 6 лет назад +2

      The watch Enthusiast My 116600 SD4000 also came with the large presentation box also. Maybe these do come in the larger box? As a Rolex collector one could almost guaranty that this model will be sought after in the future.

    To me, the lugs are too narrow on the 43. They should have gone for the same look as the 40, same lug size and overall shape of the case.

    • @thewatchenthusiast5729
      @thewatchenthusiast5729  5 лет назад

      Mike then the watch would have looked too chunky. I think with the increased size and increased bracelet width to 22 ml the lug size is perfect.
