    Written as a leaving present for his principal cellist, lost until the 1970's, this is a gem when played with this sort of dedication. The c.250 year old piece still sounds fresh and fun.

    The deep and mild tone of solo cello sounds extraordinarily beautiful. The restrained accompaniment by this compact orchestra is also remarkable. Just wonderful!

    No matter how often I hear the Concerto, the music retains its freshness. Not a bad endorsement for a 250 year old piece of music. The soloist played it with confidence. The last movement was sparkling.

    Great how she can make all the fast passages so light and not over-romanticized, with a period-awareness style, yet all on modern setup cello and bow!

    Expressively moving, exhilarating, and refreshing as a summer breeze. This is Haydn exactly as he wrote for the orchestra of his time - especially for the strings and cello. Amazing interaction between the players and the soloist. I loved every note and every musician who made this beautiful and rapturous concert happen. But I most loved Ms. Marie Elizabeth Hecker, who played the entire solo with her eyes closed, and played it brilliantly and expressively as only a musician who understands the music she plays can. Thank you for showing us for the duration of those 25:24 minutes what Heaven must be truly like!

    Love this performance the tiny mistakes (e.g. 5:15) just make the performance so humane, my favourite performance! It's so light and classical unlike super heavy rostropovich. The orchestra is epic.

    • @young-geunyou2644

      she plays in a baroque style (many new performers play this way as well). I wouldn't say Rostropovitch's playing is 'super heavy'; there are times when there are an incredible crescendo and the lightest piano. In baroque style performances like this, there aren't many differences in parts that the cellist needs to play with a crescendo and a piano; not much sound distinction. I personally prefer Rostropovitch, but I think this performance is spectacular as well :)

    • @martinriha3729
      @martinriha3729 4 года назад +1

      This ain't baroque even in wildest fantasies... why would she play Haydn baroque style anyway :) It is classical as fuck

      @@cellokratzer I just pointed out it feels better when it's not executed with perfect intonaton, didn't mean to hate... I just feel closer to the music when there is human-error factor present :)

    What wonderful restraint, lightness, and precision in the third movement! One of the best versions of the 1st Haydn I've heard in a long while. Detractors below should be aware that this measured but committed approach is much more in line with Haydn's intentions and idiom than slobbery, over-emphatic playing.

    ya, the only reason why people are being so rude and critical and what have you is because they are used to hearing this piece interpreted by maybe one musician and when they hear someone else's they flip out, because they are used to hearing the same interpretation over and over again. As to me this is my first time hearing this piece, so now like everyone, I will measure all other interpretations to this one. I'm glad I came across this and not Rostropovich's

    • @walterbushell7029
      @walterbushell7029 6 лет назад +1

      One great advantage of unlimited music streamers is that one can hear multiple interpretations and not get stuck in one as you say. If you buy records or downloads then you can only have two or three versions of a work, certainly for the majority of your collection.

    Wonderful. I read some hateful commentaries and I think she doesn't deserve anything like this. She is an accomplished musician with deep emotions and feeling. Certainly, there is room always for debates and ubercriticism. But, also is sure like planet earth that she knows music like her hand and has a lot to say and play all the rest of her life. She is young and has to grow up, to experience sorrow and sadness, because, along with happiness and love, this is the stuff artists are made of.

    To me it sparks a lot, I think the interaction between the orchestra and the cello player is beautiful. In the end it is all a matter of taste, because art is subjective anyway....... So you can't say some work of art, music, painting, etc is good or bad, only that you think it good or bad. And I think this is awesome.

    Each player's phrasing is unique and is refined through time and I found this performance well done. Even with the few 'off notes' she 'made it her own' which is the mark of an artist. For comparison and a more 'seasoned' 'firmer' and emotionally 'deep' interpretation lookup 'Matt Haimovitz Cello concert in C - Joseph Haydn' broken up into 3 here on youtube as well as Yo Yo Ma.
