      Yes ... In my view, much of Chopin is operatic though to my knowledge none has been used in opera. For example I would love to hear an opera star sing the drama of his Prelude No. 21. Olga, your performance here is wonderful. Singing piano. Bravo!! 🎉

Satzes).

    I had to comment. But not on the mastery and utter emotion that this young lady just displayed. But on the response of those present...or lack thereof. I would have jumped out of my seat, perhaps skin, after sitting in a performance like that. WHERE was the gratitude for that masterpiece of a performance??? Is it me? A different culture? To this young lady......bravo!! BRAVO!!!!

      Chopin was an extremely exceptional musician. In all the history of known music, there are few composers that compare to the raw, emotionally complex beauty that he was able to render. This is true for all eras of known music, not just today, but in his own time as well.

    Scheps understands the fourth movment better than any other pianist I've heard. She plays it at the tempo that the composer wrote it, inserts rubato where it belongs, and knows that the cascading right hand is NOT always the melody. Best I've heard of at least 300 recordings and live performances.

    I have just come across this and am not familiar with the pianist. I am always trying to find recordings of this sonata, looking for *the* definitive one. I may just have found it! It's idiosyncratic, highly personal, exquisitely articulated, very thoroughly worked-out, and flawlessly executed. A reading of very great integrity. I feel I am going to have to listen many times to get to the bottom of it and hear all that Scheps has to say, along with perhaps some new insights on what Chopin had to say. Truly magnificent!

    • @yanicsoulieres5088
      @yanicsoulieres5088 4 года назад

      I have only heard her for the first time today, and have been listening to many of her interpretations. I have to admit I've been extremely curious at first because of her technique and her obvious musical dispositions. She's definitely different, more concerned about the music than the technique. Obviously everything is a question of taste in the end, or almost... Because some things are actually not a question of taste. Chopin himself wrote a letter to one of his friend (that letter has been found and preserved) stating at some point that the thing he despised most in his students was the abusive use of Rubato. I would go as far as to say that she is using quite a bit too much in her interpretation of this Sonata. She is also quite often putting accent on notes that are not meant to be accented that much. Initially, I was intrigued and wondering if I liked it better that other more "standard" versions. I did come to the conclusion, in the end, that what I find to be "definitive" in terms of interpretations is Both Danilov's and Hamelin's ones. Don't get me wrong, there is something utterly different with the way Olga Scheps plays the piano and I am not sure I'd want her to change anything about her way to play just because it is really, really well felt music. She has the talent, she has the technique, she can feel the spirit of what she's playing, no doubt. But being honest, I don't think she'd qualify at the Chopin competition because of what I just said, because in the end, it doesn't feel true to what Chopin himself wrote on paper. I believe composers always intend for musicians to put part of themselves in any interpretation, but it is a very defining criteria to be able to actually play what was intended also. If you look at the parts while you listen, do you feel that this is true to the score? :) food for thought...! In the meantime, enjoy!!

    Like the Chopin Polonaise-Fantasy this work (even though it is not morbid like 2nd Sonata and is in a sunny BMajor )is full of morphisms, unstable progressions and puzzling transitionsEverything this woman essays is like a new work . This is not the b minor we all thin we know and love . It is remarkable for textural and color sensitivity (that chromatic scale in the bass has never been more ironic, scary and barely tere as is the glorious 2nd theme now makes more sense to me in its context than ever before. Like cortot she has shown us what we did not feel before. Perahia and Uchida may be my benchmarch in this Sonata . One can never forget that Chopin thought of himself as a classicist -though in the ways he went past and outside romantic era conventions he heralds Scriabin and the indefinable and indefiteniteness, bizarre , illogic ,maddening impulses of the 20th century .Pires too is unforgettable in this but totally different ideas .Hofmann recorded this 1st movement but this is the performance one will never forget !

      To the idiot that told me to sober up: well, there is the greatest performance of Chopin’s B minor sonata to be mentioned, the one by which, I think, all others must be judged, and that is by Dinu Lipatti. I doubt whether that idiot’s even heard of him but, IMO, he is perhaps the greatest recorded pianist who has ever lived. But I gotta tell you: this girl does a beautiful job with this, one of Chopin’s greatest works.

    Wonderful, Olga, thank you. ... 🎉 ... We are here to translate the beauty of God/Nature's creation ... mere instruments of that incredible beauty that transcends mortal desires and allows us to enter to some degree the eternal realm of which Love is the essence. Even the angels/gods cannot know or explain the origin or order of the universe and all its wonders. What awes me is that Nature itself -- which finds its conscious expression only through us -- by its very nature supports and maintains only the good (ancient term for God) and beautiful (righteousness) and effortlessly phases out the powerless rest.

    Olga, you do understand Frédéric Chopin almost as good as George Sand. Marvelous!!

    Oh gosh! The largo is just gorgeous! It'll inspire me to try and learn to play at least that part - even if poorly.

    One thing i have noted Olga likes to play two notes together using the thumb of either hand i've done that myself sometimes though only using right hand , she is quite superb in looks and talent what a lady

    Olga er jo billedskøn og spiller himmelsk godt. Smukt og rørende følsom musik. Lige noget for mig........

    This a "slow" version compared to Martha Argerichs, or even more Dinu Lipattis , but I prefer this version. Olga has such a nice way of phrasing, together with these small moments of hesitation that makes this music so mesmerizing.
