When you experience something like this you are witnessing the extreme limits of the human intellect in the combination of the soloist , the composer, the orchestra, the conductor and even the manufacturer of the piano. As an amateur musician most of my life, I can barely understand how someone can play the piano much less memorize such a complicated piece and play it with such passion. Bravo!
Well, I guess she'll do it just like I do when I learn the easy little scores I can play like the bad, pathetic amateur pianist that I am. That is: piece by piece, little by little 😅
@@frankisantana On the other hand, this is not what you learned as your main profession... I don't think Khatia would be able to teach geophysics or maths at the university tomorrow - we learn what we learn, and it is a kind of blessing that you can have such a nice hobby as an amateur piano player.
I've been playing piano, classically trained, for almost 30 years. I believe I have earned the right to have an opinion as to the "greatness" of a pianist. Khatia is an incredibly gifted and passionate pianist whose interpretation of Rach 3 is refreshing. People who criticize either do not truly know or understand music from the perspective of the pianist or they are just cruel and jealous of the talent others possess. Many people may think people are merely born with a gift. Yes it's true there MUST be a certain amount of raw, natural talent involved - this is obvious - but what people don't see are the thousands and thousands of hours one practices to achieve greatness. It's a discipline most are never willing or capable of achieving. So a word to "critics"....once you are honestly able to say you spent your childhood, teen years, and many adult years hovering over a keyboard of other musical instrument, playing until your hands hurt, wanting to stop yet can't stop because the passion that compels you to play exceeds any physical pain or social price you pay for missing out on many things..hen you can have a platform and a right to criticize a true musician. Until then, you need to be very careful. When one lays their hands on a musical instrument to play in front of others- they are actually laying their soul bare to show the world. It's a vulnerability few can ever understand and certainly something small minded people can not respect.
In addition to the soloist, the conductor and every one in the orchestra all put their efforts into learning and practice for many years. That's how much it takes to put out a performance like this.
Don't be silly - anyone can criticise another regardless of their 'qualifications'. Their criticism may not amount to much but they are entitled to express it just as you are entitled to respond.
agreed, these people are true artists, to compare, to critique, to denigrate those who stand up in front of the cameras and public to expose their talent, is in my view an insult. These are true passionate musicians; or better they weather the critique in the name of their passion. Maybe they are not the best in history, but they are following a passion. RESPECT please.
The little smiles she gets on her face throughout this performance are part of the reason I like her so much. Genuinely seems to enjoy playing and being there. If she's having such a great time, it's hard not to be drawn into that. Just wonderful.
I am at a loss to understand how someone can by memory and feel with eyes closed play such complicated music. It's like she becomes Rachmaninoff herself and what he was feeling when he wrote this....Some sort of mystical channeling that only music can evoke. Not only beautiful, but seriously talented genius. I have a new crush!!
Shes playing the main instrument in the orchestra, but and thats not normal for piano players … she plays it like shes a real part of the orchestra and not dominating it. for me one of the best piano players i ever heard :)

I just cannot get my mind round how it is possible to conceive such an amazing piece but then, to have Khatia give it birth and bring to such maturity, would defeat any mind. I hope dear R can feel this feast of the senses.
Her elegance, her beauty, finesse with which she plays, the passion she shows and the beautiful orchestra that compliments her playing without dominating anywhere If this is not a treat to watch Then I don't know what is
She is one of those musicians you can ever forget. Mesmerising ❤ I love her so much, such an inspiring and beautiful young woman. Oh and one of my favourite pianist of all time
She is a force of nature and the conductor is a magician. Rachmaninoff's music......we are so lucky ❤️ Thanks for sharing such a moments of human exelence.
The formula of Rachmaninoff’s brilliance and Khatia’s energy is just beyond words! Absolute transcendence! Experiencing this live is now on my bucket list.
THE GUARDIAN classical music Wigmore Hall, London Andrew Clements Thursday 2 April 2015 12.28 BST "The jury is out whether Buniatishvili can ever be a serious artist after a shapeless Pictures at an Exhibition and Liszt as a low - grade circus act." ... Her programme - Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and a sequence of Liszt - was clearly designed for effect, and to have her fans on their feet and cheering at the end; predictably, they obliged. Pictures, though, had no shape at all, with the slower movements ponderously slow - Il Vecchio Castello was interminable - and faster ones lightning fast, so that they became trivialised, and Buniatishvili kicked up such a storm in The Hut on Fowl’s Legs that the dramatic effect of the segue into the final Great Gate of Kiev, one of the clinching moments in the whole work, was fatally undermined. That tendency to extremes - the thinking that ever faster, ever louder, is automatically the best way to go - ran through the Liszt pieces too. Three studies from different sets, La Leggierezza, Feux Follets and La Campanella, at least allowed everyone to admire the pearly evenness of Buniatishvili’s fingering, but apart from a rather unconvincing Liebesträume to begin, around them were pieces that encouraged her to be as noisy as possible: the first Mephisto Waltz (not insidious, just rowdy), the Grand Galop Chromatique (turned into a low-grade circus act) and the second Hungarian Rhapsody - played, of course, in Vladimir Horowitz’s version, which adds tweaks and further elaborations to Liszt’s original. The good news is that the piano survived it all intact; the bad is that on the question of whether Buniatishvili can ever be a serious artist, the jury is very much still out.
Don't let Khatia Buniatishvili's beauty and sensuality distract you from her world-class playing. I did hear some wrong notes in the cadenza, yet her dynamics and phrasing are second to none, and her overall shaping is not far from Rachmaninoff's own. Well played!
I encourage you to seek out Yunchan Lim's performance of this piece during the Van Cliburn competition last year. This is wonderful but I found his rendition breathtaking. He won the competition, then performed this piece with the New York Philharmonic earlier this year to stellar reviews. I really don't care about the reviews, but the performance was amazing.
Her Ossia cadenza is up there with Yefim Bronfman's as one of the best ever. This is also one of the cleanest performances of the whole concerto I've ever heard.
Yefim Bronfman played it furiously enough in the heavier passages, but from the one recording I heard, he wasn't gentle enough in the happier passages. I'd compare her more to Arcadi Volodos or Olga Kern here :)
Let's applaud the youthful orchestra. They have dedication and opportunity in the future. They appeared to be enjoying the real star of the show- Always loved the piece and come back to it often. Wow. Such talent and warmth.
It's not about perfection - it's virtually impossible to play this flawlessly. It's about beauty and emotion, this is where music should lead us to - even more Rachmaninoff's. She belongs to this piece of music and acknowledges her role within the whole concert. She refuses to be the lonely diva at the end with the applause. Instead, she grants first violin and maestro. She is there as part of the universe, a shiny star in the middle of nowhere
its amazing how she knows what she plays by memory and plays with such expression and love the way her head bounces as she comes to her favourite little parts, and intense concentration in the face and plays with wonderful expression both into the keys and the whole body language
As a pianist, I can tell you that looking for patterns when first learning a piece is key. Patterns and long hours of practice help us retain the music in our heads.
Yeah, it’s like it becomes automatic. Actually, sometimes when I start overthinking, I get lost but if I Iet muscle memory do it’s thing, it just flows. Can’t say I’ve played anything that complex though.

Rach had suffered thumb distension when he composed this piece hence the wide chord movements. What is amazing is that Khatia is nimble enough to interpret No.3 with as much dexterity and emotion. A lifelong fan of both!!
This is me aggreeing with you not an add. I think its the most engaging music I have ever engaged in. I'm a drummer who plays piano, this has provied me a demention of articulation that Beethoven, Mozart and Dvorak who I love can't
Khatia is my favorite pianist, I LOVE her recordings of Concerto 2 and 3 but you have to admit that Denis Matsuev is also excellent. I've been listening to concertos 2 and 3 for more than two years now, almost every day. I'll never be tired of these masterpieces
The lady not only knows this piece (everything that she plays ) by heart, and therefore does not need the score in front of her, but she has the intensity of each note ingrained and it is all SO wonderful. I will always remain awed by Khatia and thank God for the day I happened to stumble onto her wonderful music. I am grateful to RUclips, Neeme Jarvi and his orchestra, and of course to Ms Khatia Buniatishvilli.
Hate to burst your bubble, Bob, but all professional pianists who perform on stage, have the standard concerti under their fingers. Not knowing the score requires an explanation, typically. Scores are necessary for people playing work publicly for the first time, for concerti that are relatively rare, or some other circumstance. The movie would have you believe that David Helfgott was a savant. Performing pianists have practiced the standards since they were seven years old. And they may practice 6 hours a day. Horowitz was an exception: he hardly ever practiced. But for the most part, professional pianists, violinists, or whatever, know all their own standards, which Rach 3 is. Don't listen to me--look it up
@@nedcrouch3202 Thank You, Ned. I appreciate your thoughts and knowledge. I stumbled upon Ms Khatia several years ago, and have been a fan ever since. I admire her from afar and know only what has been written about her. She has a heart for the very young and very old. Anyway, back to her music ... she always reflects the emotion and intensity of whatever score she plays. I'm no expert in the field of music, however I've seen this young woman adding well deserved dignity to Ivry Gitlis in his declining years. She has a real good heart for others, and I like that.
Maestra Khatia is so expressive, and seems to truly sense and enjoy the musical masterpieces she so triumphantly interprets and performs. Amazing. Terrific engagement, communication, feeling, togetherness, participation, and synergy with the Conductor and with the Orchestra.
So what you're saying is: You love her. Or maybe just in love. Yeah. I know exactly how you feel. She reminds me of the unspeakable definition of beauty.
We live in an astonishing age of pianistic artistry where Katia shines like a diamond. Such temperament and aplomb! -- in painting wonderful pictures with everything from gossamer filigree to sonorites of explosive force she maintains her taste and free spirit. I've never heard Rachmaninoff 3rd played this way but she succeeds brilliantly.
more than 30 years.... I have been listening Rachmaninov's.... this is easier tempos ... to feel more comfortable.... not to serious moods.... I love this interpretation. ... Thanks Khatia
Being that this peace of music is notoriously difficult to play! Khatia seems to play it with ease!, there’s no doubt that this lady is gifted and is a genius, it’s such a privilege to listen to her play!!!
I love Khatia and her passion, her mastery and yet her seeming casualness. Her performances raise my spirits. The close and roving camera also enhances one's understanding of the complexity of Rachmaninov's piano concertos which is missed when only listened to. Thanks to DW for making this available. I feel one should make a contribution, having replayed it so many times.
@@DWClassicalMusic Thank you for your response and generous waiver of donations. Being able to experience these renditions is more valuable than owning a work of art! What a bunch of wonderful comments, glad to be in your company. I work in my wood shop for hours daily and there has been times I listen to this very recording all day long for a week. Khatia, you astound me with your performance of this the most difficult piano concerto ever written! The Horowitz dvd performance was historically my favorite performance but Khatia, yours is fantastic in every way and I saw a technical facility I never suspected. You are the greatest! There is magic in that fantastic performance of yours!!!!!
Khatia, Rachmaninoff and the DW channel made my morning today! No matter how exquisite words I try to convey my feelings, no matter how carefully I try to select them, they are not even close to being able to convey what I experienced when listening to this work for the first time. Peace, success and inspiration to everyone in the coming New Year
having heard so many truly excellent renditions of this piece there are still no words to describe the superlative nature of this interpretation. And wow the first movement cadenza, a rendition to end all renditions!
I have listened to this several times and I still find it so exciting. Truly a masterful interpretation of the work of one of the really great composers.
Oh holy sh...! This is my favorite concert for 25 years and I listen to it crying every time. I've heard many versions of this and my favorite was always Martha's but this Cadenza Ossia blew my mind. This caught me from the beginning and during the cadenza my body shook and I fell to the floor. This woman is not possible. I can't stop shaking. How is this possible?
What I find totally compelling is her raw emotion, the depths of her pain, and the reverent joy and exhalation, just completely in the stratosphere, alone and completely in control... for me the most enduring of all is her sophistication, sensuality, confidence and command... Her performance takes me away to a happy place... bravo, bravo, bravo... enjoy... the peterman...
Believe it or not: The 1954 edition of the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians notoriously dismissed Rachmaninoff's music as "monotonous in texture ... consist[ing] mainly of artificial and gushing tunes" and predicted that his popular success was "not likely to last"
The best that I ever did musically was to play in a moderately well-received local rock band. I have no words to describe the passion and precision that I just witnessed. I am a caveman.
One of the best interpretations I've heard in a long time. Along with Rachmainoff or Horowitz themselves. This performance is amongst the stars, out of this world 🌎!!!!
This is indeed a very fine performance but for me it doesn't quite reach the heights of Yefim Bronfman with Valery Gergiev and the Vienna Phil or Alexander Gavrylyuk with Thomas Dausgaard and the BBCSSO. Both performances are on YT and well worth checking out. You can never have too many Rach 3s!
She could wear a t-shirt and leggings for all I care. It’s all about the music for me. The snootiness and snark about how “loud” she plays is telling of the bastions of classical players and their audiences, who seem to take one another way too seriously. She’s forgotten more than most will ever learn. And her passion for the pieces she chooses to entertain us with is unparalleled. An absolute genius in her own world. Instead of attempting to fault her for her individualism, we should be applauding her absolute mastery of the form. Bravo! But, what do I know? I’ve only learned enough to have played punk on guitar for decades now.
Unvergesslich!
What I love about Khatia's performance is that it's not distracting to watch. Lang Lang sounds exceptional, but his performances overdo the facial expressions IMO. Khatia, on the other hand, knows when to accentuate certain phrases, and when to focus in on the technique. Let me know your thoughts as well!
The wonderful dryness of the acoustic..not to mention sensational playing from the orchestra work beautifully with Ms Buniatishvili's beautiful almost pedal-less articulation. Excellent sound, with much solid weight in the low brass and string basses. This is really a wonderful performance..in the most beautifully balanced way. The partnership of Meastro Järvi and the pianist is a joy. A no nonsense Ossia cadenza, with much propulsion, and less fiddly than many. I'll keep it short here. more maybe next time. This is very fine music making, and worth several visits back. Thanks for posting, DW.

Would disagree. Beginning all sounds very perfunctory, ‘let’s get on with it please’ Quite soulless and orchestra is likewise. That’s just my take of course.
@@archiesteel6604 I will have to listen to it a few times, but my first impression of the beginning was the same: perfunctory - so very flat and even-handed compared to some others' playing. But I need to listen more to figure out whether it's more or less appealing than others' renditions. My traditional favourite listen has been Argerich's version.
Thank you so much DW for uploading this masterpiece by Rachmaninoff! And you Khatia my dear, always brings something refreshing to each piece you play. You're one of a kind. A truly gifted pianist.
Magnificent!
This is the concerto for piano and orchestra that I love most in life. I must say that it is not easy to interpret it, since it is a work that requires a very high level of study for both the soloist, the conductor and the orchestra. In the world, this is one of the most difficult to perform, but the result is phenomenal, the pianist in this video performs it very well although she does it quite quickly.
Thank you for posting this beautiful performance! Very passionate. The piano and orchestra really play as one here. For me, one of the most beautiful moments of this masterpiece is in the second movement where the piano and orchestra descend into a kind of chaos and then suddenly the piano emerges into a beautiful Db major theme of consolation (@18:58). It’s beautifully rendered here.
What I don't understand is this: How can a person memorize such a long work? Everyone has notes in front of them and everyone plays by looking at them, but only she plays from memory. Incredible!
Ma-ra-vi-lho-sa!!! 💐🌹❣️👏👏👏😘💞
Absolute mastery of the famous and very difficult "cadence". The wonderful Khatia even allowed herself the luxury of watching the director while she performed it. He didn't notice. What a shame... Well done Miss Khatia, we love you!
As a long time listener and full-time hedonistic listener of the romantic & classical music, (57 years) I hereby declare that Khatia was perfect in her execution, of this piece, pauses, crescendo all in perfect harmony, she has it all, brains, beauty & incomparable talent.
Few pieces of music feel like a purer distillation of emotion than this concerto, and what a magnificent performance by Buniatshvili and the Verbier Festival Orchestra. The precise articulation and passionate intensity are superb.
Miraculously playing completely from memory, Khatia whips her hair back with dramatic style like a rock star, warning the Gods that she's in the room and takes no prisoners. She experiences, sometimes lustfully, every second with grand flourishes and heartfelt intensity like an artist afire with the joy of creation. Her world is not only her communion with the Steinway keys, but also a bond with her fellow musicians and the lives of her transfixed listeners, forever changed by this powerful, beautiful, and unending force of nature.
All pianists play from memory - it's hard to find anyone not doing this. Recitals of 2+ hours are routinely played without score. Piano competitions impose a rule that no scores are allowed. It's actually not that difficult - when you've practised a piece over and over for hours your brain and fingers just remember!
@@adrianwright8685 very difficult for most. The best examples of musicians with great memorization skills are those who have nearly photographic memories that allow them to quickly absorb and imbed the notes. It's not just muscle memory, even though that does play a part. As a pianist I've experienced and studied the issue for over 40 years.
@@cameratamusic6705 Well how difficult it is might be arguable but they all do it now - almost without exception. Of many piano recitals I've been to over the past few years the only score user I can recall was Pollini with the Bach 48 - apparently they are particularly hard to memorise.
Yes. Interestingly, Clara Schumann was one the first pianists to exclusively perform from memory. Liszt and others followed suit and it became the standard.
Do you know this kind of fantasies when you imagine yourselves doing something absolutely brilliantly - like martial arts, sports or some performance? Well, touche, Khatia plays piano better than I can _imagine_ myself doing that.
Felicitaciones! Bendiciones!!!
Nice hobby?? What is your profession these days?
Amateur?? Really?
You need an English professor to guide you in your vocabulary.
Khatia is the ultimate gifted piano genius! Reverenced globally!
RESPECT please.
man why you guys gotta turn this into a copypasta

Khatia is of another dimension in emotional expression and connection, very few pianists reach...so fluid
Don't let Khatia Buniatishvili's beauty and sensuality distract you from her world-class playing. I did hear some wrong notes in the cadenza, yet her dynamics and phrasing are second to none, and her overall shaping is not far from Rachmaninoff's own.
Well played!
I honestly can’t help it. That is, I’m equally floored by all of the above.

Yes yes yes , you r right .every note is very clear ., i heard every note !!! special hands...
Yefim Bronfman played it furiously enough in the heavier passages, but from the one recording I heard, he wasn't gentle enough in the happier passages. I'd compare her more to Arcadi Volodos or Olga Kern here :)
I think the best execution is that of Grigory Sokolov.

@@bryanstevenson2275 yes she’s amazing as you say but all pianists have their works memorized, no one uses music.

An absolutely brilliant performance. Just how does anyone play such a piece of music on the piano with no sheet music? It boggles my mind.

Being that this peace of music is notoriously difficult to play! Khatia seems to play it with ease!, there’s no doubt that this lady is gifted and is a genius, it’s such a privilege to listen to her play!!!
We're glad you enjoyed it. Make sure to follow us for the latest uploads 😊
Thanks for your kind words - no contribution necessary! Hopefully you'll like our other videos, too.
@@DWClassicalMusic Thank you for your response and generous waiver of donations. Being able to experience these renditions is more valuable than owning a work of art! Yes, I revel in all your videos of Khatia. They capture her attractive image and mannerisms and her outstanding performances, enriching life with visual and aural sustenance. You and she revive enjoyment of these classical concertos: Significant contributions to the wealth of human culture and thus appropriately honouring the great composers.
@@drjamesbthring3739 Thank you very much for the compliments, that's music to our ears! We couldn't wish for more. 😊
What a bunch of wonderful comments, glad to be in your company. I work in my wood shop for hours daily and there has been times I listen to this very recording all day long for a week. I listen to compositinon in general and I try to play the piano but she has got my attention as an artist, supurb.

It's a rare privilegie hearing Buniatshvili and this splendid orchestra at Rachmaninoff's Concert n. 3! Pure emotion! Sublime! Bravo!

@@DWClassicalMusic It is a privalage and I love it. Im retired and just am dooing what ever I want this is what I spend my time on.
Khatia, you astound me with your performance of this the most difficult piano concerto ever written!
The Horowitz dvd performance was historically my favorite performance but Khatia, yours is fantastic in every way and I saw a technical facility
I never suspected. You are the greatest! There is magic in that fantastic performance of yours!!!!!
Thank you for your feedback. We are very happy that you like this video so much.
Masterful performance! She brings a softness and sensitivity to this work that many performers miss. Stunning 🤩
Fantastisk god musik
Not obvious that softness was the intention of the composer.

And wow the first movement cadenza, a rendition to end all renditions!
no.....
I have listened to this several times and I still find it so exciting. Truly a masterful interpretation of the work of one of the really great composers.
Never heard this before but I'm so entranced and mesmerized - bless the truly gifted!
What a joyous treat!!

Khatia is AMAZING!! Most of the members of this outstanding orchestral ensemble are in their 20's! Sergei Rachmaninoff must be so very proud. 💕🎶🎵
He's, uh... so very dead.
Have you consulted a doctor?
Or a psychiatrist?
those little smiles and those emotional eyes... thank you Khatia
🥰
Sergei Rachmaninoff, Rest in peace you brilliant genius!
Believe it or not: The 1954 edition of the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians notoriously dismissed Rachmaninoff's music as "monotonous in texture ... consist[ing] mainly of artificial and gushing tunes" and predicted that his popular success was "not likely to last"
@@misterpenguine2869 So what do you think, that's what matters
I love that she always gives the music her full 100% she plays it with all the passion she has and it shows. She is just so incredibly good!
The best that I ever did musically was to play in a moderately well-received local rock band. I have no words to describe the passion and precision that I just witnessed. I am a caveman.
It's nice to know that someone that is into rock music also appreciates classical music
Haven't seen someone play like that in a long time! So talented and really listening to the orchestra! Beautiful! 😍🤩
Absolute perfection.. Listening to Khatia performing such an incredible composition is addictive. Great conductor too.
100% agree with you man.
??? Paris 2022 khatia buniatishvili:
"... Speaking of flair, Buniatishvili emerged from the wings in a shiny silver dress, which said “Vegas.” The woman behind me remarked to the man she was with, “You don’t need to hear the music”-in other words, looking was enough. ... But, again, she was extreme. She slapped at the keyboard vulgarly. At one point, she stood up, the better to pound the keyboard. Her playing hurt my ears, ... And she seemed to play heedless of the public, heedless of pianistic norms, heedless of anything. I thought, “She’s in her own private Idaho.” ... Afterward, audience members went to the front of the hall, to take her picture. She beamed. She will obviously be a “star,” and is probably one already: the dress, the lionessness, the loudness. I imagine she’ll be known as “Khatia,” with the “Buniatishvili” on the sidelines."... THE NEW CRITERION by Jay Nordlinger, New York City " If our end-of-year lists included not only the 10 best performances but also the 10 worst, the recital presented Tuesday night by pianist Khatia Buniatishvili might be hard to dethrone from the latter list’s first place. ... "But Buniatishvili, who performed in a glittery, bright-red dress, was all about self-indulgence. Sometimes grotesquely distorted, this was music reflected in the aural equivalent of funhouse mirrors. One could only guess that the standing ovations, whoops and bravas came from people not well acquainted with the pieces." ..." Or maybe this is just how she plays. I shall not be keen to hear her again. ..." ... THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS Scott Cantell ..."No matter how fast she plays, no matter what the character of the music, everything comes across the same way - the pianistic equivalent of a society wedding photograph, with edges blurred and defining human characteristics removed. ... Buniatishvili is neither careless nor ungifted. She is simply overhyped, immature and preoccupied with beauty of presentation - a poor example to the legions of young pianists who aspire to her fame and fortune. At no point did this recital reveal a shred of the musical temperament we expect of a scion of Georgian musical tradition." ... THE FINANCIAL TIMES Ltd 2014 06.06.2014 THE GUARDIAN classical music Wigmore Hall, London Andrew Clements Thursday 2 April 2015 12.28 BST ...The good news is that the piano survived it all intact; the bad is that on the question of whether Buniatishvili can ever be a serious artist, the jury is very much still out.

Of the many Khatia performances I've viewed on RUclips, this one in my opinion is the most sensitively videoed and edited (even dealing with one difficult camera angle). The playing goes without saying.

I think I like her interpretations of Rachmaninoff more than anyone else's. Also, she always seems so empathic with conductors and orchestras.
Interesting. You do know that a noted concert pianist once asked Rachmaninoff how the 3rd concerto should be played; Rachmaninoff answered "Go ask Horowitz".
@@PaulZink No I don't "know" that. Is it a true story? Or an urban myth. Of course it's all a question of taste not to mention that Mr. Rachmaninoff died before Khatia was born. Of course, I imagine I'm not as posh as you are so what do I know?
Dramatic, passionate, resoundingly beautiful performance! Unequalled musicianship! One of the greatest all-time renditions of this concerto!

@@geoffreybslater1146 that last section (last minute or so - right after the solo trumpet echoes the piano) and the absolutely phenomenal work required of the left hand during the climactic ending move me to tears. She's playing by heart the whole concert!! WOW
At last! A pianist who can phrase!!😀So many excellent pianists "sit" on the opening theme, Khatia gives it shapes it and gives it forward momentum. Again, in the "Ossia" cadenza, the melody is moving forward through all of those passionate chords. Beautifully phrased, technically brilliant, full of passion, playfulness romance throughout the entire piece. She plays with a maturity beyond her years!
A prodigy with an old spirit.. .
Yeah, I guess she makes Vladimir Horowitz look like an amateur when it comes to phrasing artistry.
Would disagree. Beginning all sounds very perfunctory,
‘let’s get on with it please’ Quite soulless and orchestra is likewise.
Thank you for your positive feedback, we appreciate it!
Magnificent!
Marvellous. The last movement ends saying: "Everything's gonna be all right"!
First time in my life listening this divine piano interpretation. She plays with all her soul! From Latinamerica Bravo!!!
Thank you for sharing your insights with us and our community!
She is so talented and wonderful Im really enamored by all her performances
Thank you for posting this beautiful performance! Very passionate. The piano and orchestra really play as one here.
For me, one of the most beautiful moments of this masterpiece is in the second movement where the piano and orchestra descend into a kind of chaos and then suddenly the piano emerges into a beautiful Db major theme of consolation (@18:58). It’s beautifully rendered here.
What I don't understand is this: How can a person memorize such a long work? Everyone has notes in front of them and everyone plays by looking at them, but only she plays from memory. Incredible!
@demods, she "was considered a wunderkind. She began to play the piano at the age of three ..." I think it explains all ))
What it must be like to be gifted in musicality ,looks, charm, intelligence, what a beautiful woman she is.

When Kathia plays she does not play with her fingers she plays with her soul, that's all.
Absolute mastery of the famous and very difficult "cadence". The wonderful Khatia even allowed herself the luxury of watching the director while she performed it. He didn't notice. What a shame... Well done Miss Khatia, we love you!
As a long time listener and full-time hedonistic listener of the romantic & classical music, (57 years) I hereby declare that Khatia was perfect in her execution, of this piece, pauses, crescendo all in perfect harmony, she has it all, brains, beauty & incomparable talent.
bronfman or argriech is just so much better
Ya, what he said......I was just going to say that myself! LOL ;-)
