Welcome to GI 40, a very special issue that we've been hoping to bring you... well, since we first planned the magazine!
Brian May is a unique figure in Rock guitar and he has been interviewed on many occasions in many different publications, so when we were finally able to arrange an interview with him, we decided to take a different route. Instead of sending a mere journalist to interview him and his highly regarded tech expert, Pete Malandrone, we sent Jamie Humphries, who as our features explain has a unique inside approach to the Brian May team. We like to think we've produced the definitive Brian May special as a result.
Also on board is Zakk Wylde, making a welcome return to GI, telling us why he's going into the guitars and amps business!
Don't forget the usual abundance of reviews, columns and this issue's stonking competition opportunity to win a complete set of Moog's Minifooger pedals - in our estimation some of the finest effects pedals money can buy!

People talk about so-and-so having a "gift for music." Paul Gilbert is a gift TO music!

Mr. Gilbert is great. He's an easy guy to interview it seems, because if you ask the right "lead in" question, he'll just take care of the rest himself. Very talkative (in a positive way) !

@Steven Rosen - Fabulous Interview. I met Paul back in 1986, and took guitar lessons from him to help get me ready to attend the Musician's Institute. We quickly became friends and I would often take pictures of him and his band Racer X at their concerts. Also, my band usually opened for his band. For those who wonder, yes, Paul is just as cool, and nice in real life, as he is in interviews and videos! Steve Rosen asks all the right questions that get Paul to open up, and it makes for a great interview.

I remember watching his REH-videos again and again and again when I was a teenager. The jokes were lame, but this guy has so much to say about music. Incredible!

Best thing about Pablo is, whenever he demonstrating a tune, it always somehow sounds really good, despite 1 note or more. Stay healthy Pablo!

After over 20 years of wondering why I suck, I just learned something important from Paul. Some of those notes in all these different scales only sound good when played fast, or not emphasized. I can only play fast in bursts, so I need to start staying with the notes I can play slow or emphasize most of the time.

Controversial? Paul is the least controversial player in the business. Literally everyone likes him and agrees he is one of the greatest guitarists ever. Also the absolute best alternate picker ever.
