    you guys that are calling Kobe beef overrated are crazy. If you had kobe beef before you would understand how tasty this piece of meat is. This beef literally melts in your mouth, it's not the sickening type of fat but more like velvety texture. If any of you guys ever have the chance to go to japan, you must try this beef. ITS MIND BLOWING!!!

    this the most delicate treatment you can give to the finest piece of meat. It's almost like the meat is gracing the chef and blessing the customer. Awe inspiring

      It's not oil, but fat. You have to wait until it get cold and solid, and then throw it to the garbage. You can also make soap but it is normally used when big quantities are produced.

    That kobe beef is a nice price in Japan bc here in NYC there are many restaurants that sell "kobe beef" for hundreds of dollars and it's not even kobe beef

    • @Damithinkimlost
      @Damithinkimlost 8 лет назад +24

      there's only one restaurant in nyc that has real certified kobe beef. in fact only 8 restaurant in the us sell REAL legit kobe beef. in nyc it is the 212 steakhouse restaurant. if you're wondering where the other 7 restaurants are, 3 are in vegas, 2 in california, 1 in texas, and 1 in hawaii. other than that, any other restaurant are selling kobe "style" beef or regular japanese waygu beef. if you wanna know if your kobe beef is legit, ask for a certificate to prove it is 100 eprcent legit kobe beef which is cheaper. the 8 restaurant i mentioned are proud to show those certificates.

      Daisy Christina look forward to it and savor every morsel. I had to privlegde to try it fresh in japan A5 kobe beef and they only cook it one way, no need for any other seasonings or rubs or marinate. all they do it salt pepper and a good sear so you can taste just 100 percent buttery beef.

      I wouldn't pay more than $50 for that.
      As someone who regularly cooks with this grade of beef and produces all kinds of quality bespoke products - a real foodie looks for fair value - not over priced.
      This is entertaining, and a one off and might be something that someone who never experiences this type of quality would pay, but for someone who eats like this almost every day - that is completely and utterly absurd.
      Japan has some of the most, let me rephrase that, easily some of the most expensive boutique foods - it is absurd.
      $200 water melons.
      If you are prepared to pay $100 USD for that, and think it was worth it, and that makes you a foodie - you absolutely are not a foodie.

    • @evilubuntu9001
      @evilubuntu9001 8 лет назад +13

      You do not regularly cook with this grade of beef unless you are in Japan. Real kobe beef is never exported commercially and is cultivated exclusively in Kobe, Japan. There is faux Kobe beef that you can buy anywhere but it's not the same thing. There's actually a reason for the ridiculous price tag.
      I do agree with you about the "boutique" foods. There are novelty restaurants that serve "American" food to tourists at insane price ranges and they're just slopping out TGIF fare.

    • @audas
      @audas 8 лет назад +2

      Kobe is just Waygu reared in Kobe. Thats all it is. Like Reggiano is Parmesan from Parma.
      Its not actually that special - its purely about provenance.
      The best Waygu is now being produced in Australia for the last few years after decades of rearing it on consignment.

      They overfeed the cows and lock them in cages so that they don't move at all. Otherwise they will stress their muscles and get leaner.

      DGAFSS Legend
      What do you mean "false information". If the crap they say on the net, like "they massage the cows" is true, every time anyone gets a massage you would get fat and destroy your muscles. Cows obey the laws of nature, if you eat a lot you gain fat, if you don't move, your muscles are destroyed and fat replaces them.

    It is my dream to one day prepare a piece of grade 12 kobe beef... Utmost care, using clarified butter, Hawaiian black lava salt and telicherry black pepper (hand-ground in a mortar and pestle) over a combination of natural lump charcoal and french oak from a wine barrel. This... this made me cry a little inside. It looked amazing and yet... it's not anywhere close to how I would have prepared that piece of beef. I would gladly pay $100 for what I saw, but I would much rather cook that beef myself.

      Kobe beef comes specifically from Kobe, Japan whereas Wagyu can be produced anywhere

      kobe beef is rather expensive alright~ $100 for the dish is the video isn't actually exaggerated at all~

      Hi, "wagyu" means literally "Japanese beef" and can be used for any beef made from Japanese breeds of cattle, raised and slaughtered in Japan (Japanese breeds of cattle are raised in several countries nowadays). Kobe beef, or "Kobegyu" in Japanese, indicates beef from cattle raised in a specific area around Kobe city. So, Kobe beef is one type of wagyu.

    There's a Wagyu cow farm in Austria. They have beef from BMS 5-8. But you have to order months in advance.

    Maybe im wrong , im clearly not as professional as the gentleman cooking the steak is. But I always thought the absolute worst thing you could do whilst cooking a piece of meat is cut it whilst the meat is exposed to heat, or fiddle with it as much as he did. I feel like the cooking method meant that the steak lost alot of moisture (which you can actually see coming out of the steak)

      @Jalexb7 8 лет назад +39

      This kind of beef is so high fat that it is treated differently. The fat rendered is the cooking oil for the meat. It is also infamous for being tender so that's not as much of an issue.

    • @awenindoe
      @awenindoe 8 лет назад +16

      +Andrew Brookes Yes. I think you're wrong. I'd never cook my steak that way. However, note that this is how everything is cooked on a teppanyaki griddle. Also wagyu is so densely marbled, it cooks really quickly. And no, even after it is cooked, the meat is still succulent.

      I was in japan for my honeymoon back in march 16' and I think cutting the meat in to smaller pieces is more of a Japanese thing. At all of the places where I was served beef, it was cut into smaller portions. I think in the west we are used to uncut stakes minimally seasoned. if you look there are a whole plate of sauces to eat with this expensive meat. I know in the U.S. It would be sacrilege to eat an expensive steak with more than salt and pepper. I think it is just a difference in cooking culture. I will say, I do think wagyu steak is too fatty, I preferred the cheaper cuts If i were going to eat wagyu.

      If you really want to try it you can always get a small piece of wagyu at a Japanese grocer and cook it at home. Still expensive, but approachable expensive. Maybe $20 for a nice meal for one.
      I don't live far from a Japanese grocer and they have a monthly discount on beef so my roommates and I spend maybe $15/each to have a very nice dinner once a month.

      In case you didn't see, Kobe beef is VERY expensive. In order to cook it you need special qualifications, because if you fuck up, you've just wasted a $100 cut of beef. He is flipping and prodding it to ensure it's cooked correctly.
      If you want a slab of meat thrown onto a hotplate with no care or flipping, do it yourself, with a $5 cut of meat you get in a grocery store. People pay premium to eat Kobe and they expect it done right for that price.

    • @disgruntledgames
      @disgruntledgames 8 лет назад +4

      @laur manotlescu Yes, but this is almost like if you just cut all the fat from a steak, and ate just that. It is hard to eat like a steak. You have to take small bites and eat it with other stuff to cut the fattiness. The best steak I ever had was also japanese, and highly marbled, but not nearly as much as this.
