Even if you don't know about lap bars, it hardly makes sense for Thorpe Park to send guests to their death lol. Like if there was any risk at all, they ofc wouldn't let you ride it, because people dying is bad for business lol
@@theactualjavening I think most of the worry is coming from the general public who don’t ride rides very often and are not enthusiasts like us. We know the good, the bad and the ugly about coasters, the GP usually don’t unless they educate themselves🙂.
@@coastertog I really want to be there on Friday for the buzz, but I can't take queues so I might have to wait for an ERT session. I'm surprised HYperia only uses 5 car trains, they could easily have done 6 or 7 and massively improved capacity (and back row forces)
I don’t think lap bars are unsafe, but they for some reason, don’t give me the same amount of safety feeling as shoulder bars do. But that adds to the thrill!
the lap bar was amazing, it was tight enough so that i didnt feel like i could move enough to fall out but it wasn't restricting at all like some lap bars. hyperia felt like one of the safest rides ive ever been on
Guys the difference between lap bars and over the shoulders is literally how the tram is built and comfort on the different types of seating like for hanging they don’t want you leaning forward so they will put on the over the shoulders also there are no floors to put lap bars on and for hyper is the seats are leaned back and you sit pretty deep in them
I recently went on Hyperia, I didn’t realise that it had a lap bar instead of a chest restraint until I was seated and actually pulling it down. I freaked out and I basically screamed “I want a chest restraint!” when we reached the top before the first descent 😂😂😂 it was so much fun and so exhilarating, but completely unnerving to discover that there’s a lap bar, especially since I’d never been on a rollercoaster that goes upside down with a lap bar before
Its a mack ride, with lap bars that been used for more than 15 years now. Bluefire the oldest with those lap bars, and Voltron Nevera and Hyperia, the newest rollercoasters with those lap bars. I can confirm they are absolutely 100% safe. Sidefact: Shoulder bars change position into direction of your body while riding, this can lead to pain on your chest and shoulders, the lap bars by Mack Rides dont move a single millimeter once they are locked, which gives you a great feeling of safety. And as mentioned in the video, the Train refuses to leave the station if one of the lap bars is not 100% locked in place. Go out and have fun, enjoy the rides!
ngl over the shoulder restraints r terrible, they automatically make a ride worse cuz of all the headbanging. When I rid colossus It hurt so bad. Lap bars r way better
They're not... they're actually probably more dangerous, after visiting thorpe today. I can say with confidence that the only thing shoulder restraints are better at is making you uncomfortable, new mack-style lap bars are absolutely the way to go on all new coasters.
@@coastertog as a coaster enthusiast, thats nice to hear, the smiler incident was absolutely horrible, even if it was human error. I went on velociraptor and hated it because of the lap restraint cause I felt like I was falling out of the train when going upside down But a lap restraint is so much better when going at high speeds as it feels like you are flying through the air and gliding smoothly
The thing is tho even if u had no lap bar because of the forces and all that it can help u hard to explain but cause of how fast your going and all that u probably won’t fall out instantly

Top Trill Dragster (/TT2) is 420ft tall, and goes 120mph with lap bars. No coasters should have shoulder restraints, they are actually far more dangerous (I get many bruises and underarm abrasion as a tall/muscular person, and smaller people also get headbanging)
