    Here’s how I like to do coaster Battles: for each category I give each coaster a score out of 10, so Rivals might get a 9 for length and hyperia a 5 for length. Then, I weight the categories according to how much I value them in a coaster. So, a coaster might get 3 times as many points for airtime as it does for presentation, and afourth as many points for restraints compared to the layout or element choice or sense of speed. Multiply the coasters score for a category by the weight of that category, and you have a number that really accurately reflects your personal opinion!

    hyperia hd massive potential if it ran at opening day speed, outerbank was less banked, whippier transitions, longer layout, more capacity better presentation it just sucks that after 12 years we get something so half baked because merlin doesn't want to spend money and since layout extensions are basically impossible we won't see it change most likely, still my No 1 by far though hope to see mroe mack's in the UK hope to ride RIvals too

    I wouldn't rule out Thorpe adding either a backwards seat or spinning seat later, it doesn't make business sense to add it from the start when you can add it a year later and force the public to want to visit again. This is what Blackpool Pleasure Beach did with Icon, they waited a while for the hype of Icon to wear off then hit us with a spinning seat. A spinning seat on Hyperia would make a mockery of Ride To Happiness, imagine spinning through that overbank, nuts.

    I got to do DC Rivals last year and it was increadible especially with the backwords seat so for me at the moment Rivals takes the crown but I’ve done hyperia 130 times so far and if they add a BACKWORDS seat it has a chance

    You tied the theming. But I'd say the Joker face on top of the lift hill on rivals is one of the single best bits of theming in the country. Especially at night when it's lit up. You can see it a fair way down the highway. Its also why all the GP call it the Joker.
    Also i dont know how Hyperia is. But Rivals is placed so well at the front of the park and is so imposing when driving in.

      Hyperia isn’t at the front but the skyline is very open so it towers over the other coasters and looks very scary when driving in. You can also see it from the motorway

    so basically 2/3 rivals points are because hyperia is short 😂

    • @MaloneysCoasters
      @MaloneysCoasters  9 дней назад

      Well yeah, being short will naturally impact your score in both layout and pacing, and rightfully so, particularly when you're being compared to a ride that is a good length and incredibly well-rounded. About time we start admitting Hyperia is half-baked. Those 4 elements can be as incredible as you want and they'll still only be 4 elements.

      @MaloneysCoasters yeah it's my closest park. I'll admit the first few elements are incredible, but after the non inverting loop it gets a little bit stale, whereas I found hyperia short and sweet

    • @MaloneysCoasters
      @MaloneysCoasters  9 дней назад

      As I said in the video, I'll agree Rivals has a couple of dead spots, but I'll disagree that the twister section or the bunny hills are stale. That's some of the strongest transitions and ejector airtime you'll get on any coaster.
      Short and sweet is fine if you're a shuttle coaster, but it's not a description I'd give to a coaster that's going to be at the top of my rankings, and it certainly shouldn't be a description of a hyper coaster. In my top five, these two are currently competing with Voltron, Toutatis and Wrath of Zeus - three coasters that manage to maintain their intensity over lengthy and incredible layouts. Hyperia is the odd one out for having such a short layout. It's incredibly frustrating to wait 90 minutes for a coaster that's over just as you start to really get into it.

      @thrillseekers_united And Luna Park Sydney claim that their non-inverting loop does invert. Emerald Park claim that Fianna Force has 3 inversions and Cu Chulainn has 1. From my perspective, this is another case of the park being wrong. That Immelmann banks beyond 135 degrees

    • @MaloneysCoasters
      @MaloneysCoasters  10 дней назад

      I respect that, I felt it rode like a fast-paced inversion so I count it as one. Ultimately, I don't really think there's any authority on what is and isn't an inversion. I usually go by RCDB if I haven't ridden the coaster myself, but they say 3 for Fianna Force for example, and I vehemently disagree with that. If the element rides like an inversion and clearly banks beyond 135-ish, I'll count it as one.

    Rode Hyperia a few times last week and it's a great coaster. The first drop and the outer bank/roll/inversion element is insane. The ejector airtime all the way down the the drop in the back row whilst twisting 180 degrees is awesome.
