If I dare say: This review was really honest and really accurate. Better than how Gem would do , actually. Gem.. you're done, son. Nah, I was just joking, Steve. In all honesty, the opinions Phie shared are very true to someone who is a new reader, and is not as immersed like other readers who have been reading comics for a very long time. The views expressed were genuine and that's how a new reader would feel after reading the source material. I almost had the same thoughts back when I started reading Comics. I had my own assumptions, and reading the books really changed my perspective. Edit: I kinda fucked up the phrasing a little.
Nice to see Gem finally giving Phie the promotion she deserves. We need more of her reviews, especially the older books that Gem will never read. That'll be a cool dynamic
Very enjoyable review of the Golden age Cap. Phie definitely needs her own musical intro like gem. I am seriously thinking about giving this a read based on ur review. Keep up the great work!
"screaming Gangway through brick walls like a psychopath" and "throwing this thing like a boomerang and a Frisbee had a baby" Beyond hilarious, this made my whole week! Soitenly looking forward to the next Phienomenal Review
Regarding the Betty Ross character you mention around 5:20: "The 2010 miniseries Captain America: Patriot retroactively revealed that she was the aunt of General Thunderbolt Ross, and the great-aunt of his daughter Betty Ross, two characters introduced in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962)." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betsy_Ross_(character)
Love the enthusiasm and the commentary. I definitely describe stories like this to people once I’ve read them. It’s just easier not to get technical with it, but still know what you’re talking about. And I love that Phie was comparing the storylines from the MCU as well since a lot of people probably started off watching the movies this past decade then went and found these books. Great job!!! More Phie reviews!!!!
You did amazing Phie!!! Really enjoyed the review!! I liked how baffled you were in seeing a regular kid like Bucky just being able to keep up with the Super Soldier!! Can't wait till you drop the next video, keep up the good work!!!
"gangway" means get out of the way. That reference was still pretty common when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's. I'm surprised someone doesn't know it today. Maybe it is a war movie thing or a comic/cartoon thing.
We were still using it as kids in the 90's. But I grew up in the countryside and went to a small rural school, so we were more old-fashioned. We even read comics every week, fancy that!
Great review Phie. I can definitely understand the reluctance about reading a golden age omni because I read AND enjoyed the golden age Batman omnibus and it was to my surprise. So great job and I hope to see more! Now let’s get Gem to do a golden age omnibus!
Loved this review no joke. The excitement a newer comic reader gets is so great lol. Phie, you should do Golden Age Batman Vol.1 but before you read it, watch the Batman and Bill Documentary.
Great review, thoroughly covered the material with amusing commentary. Been hoping for Phie reviews - if she can kill a Golden Age Omni review, can't wait to see her do current stuff! More joint reviews also, you two are hilarious together.
I love the like to dislike ratio on this video. I'm in the best community of comic readers who know how to support a good cause! Great job Phie. I'll be picking this one up.
This was such an excellent review, Phie! I love the perspective of a newer reader since I'm still pretty new to comics as well. Can't wait for more Phie videos! Love the channel guys :)
Its so bad ass to get a perspective from someone that is new to the hobby - The look on your face describing it; that's how i felt as a kid reading comics for the first time. Its refreshing to see that look of surprise and excitement. I would love to see more from you and I'm glad you and Stephen support each other in the hobby. Keep it up Phie!
I like the older comicbook reviews. I haven't read many golden age books but its cool seeing the characters in different times. Current comics sometimes feels like "forced fun".
Damn!! Great review 👍🏻 Half of me wants to see Phie do golden age reviews, the other half wants to see her review the rest of the cap omnis in order. Would be interesting to see a fresh take on the evolution of the character. ✌️
Meanwhile at the Gempire. Gangway fellas, Phie is back with a review! I think a bunch of this is in Captain America: The First Avenger. Yeah, the soldiers would read these back during the war. Pretty cool. Great review!
Captain America's shield returns to him because he thinks faster than the average human and can correctly calculate where to throw the shield in order for it to come back. Also, in the MCU Tony (I presume) built him some device to recall the shield. It was shown briefly in the first few minutes of Age of Ultron.
This was awsome. Loved the review Phie. It was honest, you explained the story in a fun energenic and engaging way. Great sense of humor throughout. Really hope to see you do more 😁👍
This was an awesome review! And interesting perspective coming from a new comics reader! It would be interesting to hear more of Phie’s thoughts from that perspective on some of the popular omnibuses.
This was a really good review, man! Really interesting take. I'd love to see you read some Golden Age Superman from around the same publication date of this, to give a comparison, not just between the two characters from this period, but of the differences between Marvel and DC during this time! I think that could be a lot of fun! Great work, Phie!
I'm enjoying the excitement and passion in this review. I would definitely be interested in seeing Phie review some more vintage runs, like Bronze Age X-Men.
I bought this one based on Gem’s review of all of Captain America’s omnibuses. It was a bit of a chore to get through because it was so campy and extremely wordy lol. Great video; thanks for sharing
so nice to see the golden age comics not being looked down upon and bashed....golden and silver age comics are my favorites...awesome art, that was still art and not computer generated graphics and cool little easy to follow stories, you could just pick up any comic issue and read....where you do not need to read ten other comics to know what is really going on. I also like the time period, the way people dressed, the cars, etc.
TheWheels311 I wish I could have said these things in the review! I loved how the speech bubbles were obviously hand written. Some had too much space, others didn’t have enough space! Also, the part about not needing to read tons of other material to “catch up.” Thank you for your comment! 💎
MOAR REVIEWS plz. In all seriousness, this was a great review from a different perspective. I think it might be time to rip the cellophane off my copy. Thank you for the post Phie.
I genuinely laughed out loud during your review! Fantastic job. I am really interested in checking this out now as I’m in your boat: only really know the character from the MCU. Awesome review!!
You talk about this with so much passion, that Marvel is going to release the second volume right away :). I really like this review, you seem very confident. I bought this book cheap about a year ago, and never read it, but now...I have to. The funny thing about this book that I noticed right away, is that Bucky is tied up on 8 of the 12 covers. What's that about? Why is he always in captivity? :) Or the writers really like bondage? Anyway it's good to see you doing this alone, maybe Marvel is going to continue this series in omnibus format, because they only released the sequel in Marvel Masterworks editions.
Comics back in the day were required to have at least a page of text story to be considered "magazines" for subscription purposes. Stan Lee actually was the first writer to have Captain America throw his shield in one of these short text stories. It was later included in the comics themselves by Simon and Kirby.
This review was so much better than a lot of people that review comics professionally.
👌
I agree 100%
Captain America screaming "Gangway" like he's 6ix9ine
Jeremiah Torres I am laughing out fucking loud! This comment is 1000% accurate! 😆💎

Phie is so naturally comfortable in front of the camera, she's awesome. And she sold me this book pretty easily. Hope for another video soon!
Nice to see Gem finally giving Phie the promotion she deserves. We need more of her reviews, especially the older books that Gem will never read. That'll be a cool dynamic
Don't think I have ever clicked so fast on a video for this channel. Great review!
Very enjoyable review of the Golden age Cap. Phie definitely needs her own musical intro like gem. I am seriously thinking about giving this a read based on ur review. Keep up the great work!
Yes! Good to see Phie doing content. Always nice to hear other people's POV
"screaming Gangway through brick walls like a psychopath" and "throwing this thing like a boomerang and a Frisbee had a baby"
Beyond hilarious, this made my whole week! Soitenly looking forward to the next Phienomenal Review

I knew what it meant, but I am also ex-military. No idea where I know it from, but definitely knew it.

Great review Phie. Seriously consider doing more reviews. You did a great job. "Oh yeah "
Might have to look this one up.
Much like you thought you would hate the book, I thought I would hate this...but I loved it! Super-good review!

The old comics are more hard core than people realize. In the old DC Batman comics somebody died in every issue.
Yup, back in the day when Batman actually killed people.
Enjoyed your review Phie.😃
Really liked the review, our girl phie did...gang way boys!!!!
This was an awesome review! And interesting perspective coming from a new comics reader! It would be interesting to hear more of Phie’s thoughts from that perspective on some of the popular omnibuses.
Great review. Excited to see Phie review more Golden Age books.
It was an awesome review, really enjoyed it! More more more :)
For the next read I highly recommend Silver Age Green Lantern Omnibus vol 1.
Love your down to earth commentary on Captain America. You should read and review golden age Batman next.
Really good review Phie, really confident, very passionate, keep it up 👍

Good job Phie. Great review I can tell you really like it with you excited you got just describing it
Phie I loved the review! The first time I heard the word soy tin ly was what Curly of the Three Stooges would say to Moe.
LOVE your enthusiasm and jubilant engagement with the audience. Don't let this be your last time doing a review. 🤗💗😎
Killed that shit!! Phie🍃FRESH!! Sold me on this.

Great job on the Golden Age Review. Loved it.
Awesome review!!!!
You really should check out golden age Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman.
They all have their individual charm to them.
willc hell yeah! I’m currently reading Golden Age Superman! Want to get some of both publishers from that time 😎💎
You talk about this with so much passion, that Marvel is going to release the second volume right away :).

Great review. You gotta do a modern Cap review to compare it. Oh yeah and...Gangway!!
You should give Fantastic Four (Stan Lee / Jack Kirby) a try ... awesome run
Actually enjoyed this review way more than I thought I would. Hope he lets you do some more
Great review Phie!!! Loved watching this!💎

Great review, very funny and informative!
Awesome review. I hope you'll do more golden age books review.
