After watching the entire film, while flipping through the comments I realised that this short film was made 11 years ago. Here I am in 2022, thinking for the entire time that those people were terrified of the coronavirus. That moment of realisation just baffled me. I am just thinking if some similar kinda outbreak happened 11 years ago or the writer just happened to stumble upon the idea. Whatever the case, hands down one of the greatest short film I have ever watched . Felt so relatable after being amidst such a similar situation.
If your counting back from 2022,Well I was counting back from 2022 when you saw this movie,in 2011 didn't the housing market crash, People could not pay their mortgage, and many houses forclosed.
This movie was so touching. The viewer can actually feel David's agony over being alone. Next, we can feel his overwhelming joy at having human contact. Finally, we can feel the despair he felt at the thought of losing Claire. The best scene to me is the one in which Claire is flipping through the pages of his journal. The writing started out lucid, and then it eventually turned into him keeping count of the days. That scene hurt my heart. Great job!
I'm right here with you. This is more of an abstract portrayal of someone who's dealing with a lot inside. I hope you're not dealing with this kind of struggle, if you are I wish you the very best.
this is one of the best short films I've seen in such a long time the acting is so great! the camera angles and audio is amazing, and the script is so realistic!
Alex, My compliments regarding your short story film Day 1000. I accidently came across the film on You tube. Wow Excellent short story ! I believe regardless of your future films this will be one of your masterpieces. The actors David Beckner & Adele Watkin did a excellent job. They portrayed the psychodynamics of the characters well. I was impressed as to how you kept the film in one location. It was powerful how you captured the deep loneliness of David. His isolation brought tears to my eyes. He displayed how loneliness can be like a cutting void. In addition the movie score was good. Thank you for a great movie !
The girl ruined it all. Even if he didn't share the food in the first instance he would have shared it later because he seemed to be a nice person. Together they could have gathered food and all kinds of resources, have children and lived a happy isolated life.
I'm not gonna lie. I absolutely loved this. You so embodied absolute loneliness in a way that I could not only understand, but feel... I wanted to scream at both of them, which is rare for me. I was blown away by this. Absolutely blown away. Thank you.
I happened to live in hard area for a month my husband was army officer.... The seclusion I experienced was heart wrenching... ..the moment the boy saw intruder he said don't go.. ...nobody could live lonely for three years.. ..
I've just recently started browsing around these short films. This was by far the best I've seen. For a 2 person cast you were able to create such a story and i was hooked from start to finish! This made me feel sympathy, hope, fear, and sadness all within 30 minutes. Dude I am at a loss for words, this really did take my breath away, looking forward to see some more of your work!

Great short film, i like how you captured the sheer loneliness of Daivd, and how someone that had been so isolated would act in that situation. 10/10, The effects were cool and the acting was great! thanks for the good film :D
to be fair it did look like he was gonna lock her up in the basement forever. he never explicitly said "This is where the food is" he just said "I have to show you something" repeatedly like a maniac
Hmmm... bit unrealistic..... why would she want to go anywhere else. There is no one left alive, ,no obvious transportation, the guy claims he has survived for four years (actually less than 3 yrs) which implies he has a good source of food and he is young, the house is nice and clean and there is water and showering facilities. Who would want to abandon all that for a miserable existence in the woods.....
She was looking for her sister, if you paid attention. She just wanted to steal some food, but she came on the day he was suppose to refill his cupboards so she was pissed and she left to find her sister.
DBZHGWgamer If you paid attention, you will realise she is actually looking for her brother and it is unlikely she would want to leave the comforts of a good home for a while because she has been living rough. So, leaving the next day is highly unlikely especially as she has been watching the guy for apparently some days in order to assess how much food he has. Logically, if she is interested in a food cache which she suspects the guy has, she would at least stick around until a full analysis is completed to ascertain what the cache consists of. Use your brains.
***** She stuck around, and he ate the small amount of food she had brought with her. She looked in the cupboards, they were empty. Are you telling me that if your little brother could be trapped at home and you have no idea wether he is dead or alive, you would stay in some random guys house just for comfort? Every day you waist could be the one day too late to save your brother.
DBZHGWgamer She mentioned that she has been observing the guy over a number of days eating a can of corn every day. So, she could spare the time to make her observation for a number of days even though her "little brother could be trapped at home", but was too impatient to fully analyse the situation once contact had been made? Illogical. The cupboards being empty cannot mean no food until the question has been asked "do you have any more food?" This question was never asked. Bearing in mind, the guy has survived alone with no obvious outside resupplies, this implies he has food stores. Also, he mentions that he has survived alone for about 4yrs. Do you think you could fit 4 yrs of food supplies into those cupboards? The implication here is that the food store is elsewhere (under the house). Again, "use your brain."
***** He could have stored some food in the rooms. She doesn't know. She was in a dire situation, do you think she took the time to think things out? She made assumptions. They may have been incorrect assumptions, but she still made them. You find it easy to think through, sitting comftrbley in a chair typing this out, your not in her situation.
Very well done I completely loved this short film I so wish it was longer. I feel sorry for David . He was so happy to have a friend.... this was so good very pleased and still loved loved loved it
You could foreshadow what was going to happen but it was so good!! The portrait of loneliness and PTSD from abandonment (in a way) HAD ME BALLING in the beginning
wow.... that was one of the most emotion inducing shorts of ever seen. I have the utmost respect for the creators of this video. Believe it or not, good things can come out of youtube.
Dang. If the girl trusted him she could've got food, but this guy who's been alone and isolated for four years couldn't properly communicate and due to that she didn't trust him. She thought he would lock her in that basement and prevent her from her goal.
Thecrazycatlady Had no idea it was going to be so obvious before I read it. What you said was about as stupid as holding up a sign that says "Don't read this sign."
LOL Someone needs to change their tampon and have a bottle of whine. Yes whine not wine. You make a post just telling what happens and then boohoo when someone comments on it? Really? Are you sad, old and lonely?
Why does this not have more attention? Amazing film, thought provoking and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If only she'd have let him open the cellar. Great film!
Clear case of "Shoot first and ask questions later" and it turned out just as bad. Awesome short story, and I like that it depicts the truth of what it would be like if humanity ever got to this point. Well done, thanks it was a pleasure to watch!
I have to admit that this short film was really food, and captured the meaning behind being alone. it's a every well known fact that we as the human species crave the feeling of being around fellow humans, and that is because we are social creature, but when we face having to be alone we can't retain our basic human nature of being social, and there for act in ways that we normally wouldn't act. I think that you capture that perfectly in your film, and I hope that you make many more showing other emotions like lost love, falling in love, having kids etc...
The reason why the plot of this film is so appealing is that it walks the very narrow borderland that includes what is both surprising and believable. It is sad but true that we could imagine characters behaving that way in a real apocalyptic situation.
@Alex Calleros (Finite Films) - This was a great film! I HATED the ending, but I understand why it was there. Two people just misunderstanding each other in trying times. Without spoiling it for anyone else who comes across it, I could have seen things happen differently. Oh well...such is life. Thanks for sharing a good story, regardless!
Well, perhaps after years and several miles away there might be others? And incest wasn't that unusual in previous millennia (most kings and queens for instance were siblings = Cleopatra and her husband before Cesar). Also there would be other combination like niece with uncle, or 3nd degree cousins, which is also even today usual in many cultures. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting human population growth in any means, but why kill each other than you can create a new (better?) beginning?
***** I dont know man mayby they didn't want to burden of a new born. Surviving in that world already seemed difficult enough without having to carry a baby around. Claire was already worried about food, if she had a baby she'd be feeding two which could possibly kill her
I was watching an interview for Surviver and they were talking about how they stop being from having sex with each other while on the show and they said that when they don't have enough food, their sex drive just shuts down because it would waste energy and consume more food which they have limited of, maybe that's what happened
yes. she said he had been taking food from the cabinets every day for a week. She had only been watching him for a week. She took the first opportunity of him leaving the house to rob him. That happened to be the first time he left the house, to go to the stash all week
+Nallanyesmar 😂🤣🤣 AWSOME Comment, this is true I have a friend who is VERY HANDSOME 💋 But if he shaves his Mishmash he looks like FRED FLINSTONE !!! So Tru Dat.? ☮️❤️
Dan Beckner did an exceptional job portraying a man who has been driven mad by grief and loneliness. It was only after the movie was over that I remembered he's acting - that's how fitting all of his decisions were. At the end, when Claire slams the door, Dan's reaction showed perfectly how unhinged David has become. Everything after that was unnecessary, in my opinion; the full tragedy of David's situation was evident on Dan's face.
Just when you have everything going for you, a woman comes along...and BAM - screws it all up! LOL! I loved the film. Great story, great acting and lovely music.
The sad part I find in this movie is because of covid we all can now imagine a world like the one in this movie. A world where one person is so happy to see another person they have a reason to see tomorrow. A person that is trying to find their family having to shot another person because they think their life is in danger. This movie did in 30 min what a lot of Hollywood movies fail to do in two hours. Congratulations on a good movie
+Gunnard Larson I used that thing until it was pretty much worn out. I got mud in it, water in it crossing rivers, dropped on rocks and from trees. That thing was as tough as the Sig I currently own and carry.
+PotzyMccoy I had the same one! It would shoot a bee-bee maybe a little harder than you could throw a bee-bee. I don't think you can knock someone out with an aluminum snow shovel. Nobody would be walking with two cast iron skillets, because those sumbitches is heavy. What's the fuel for the water heater that he'd have after 4 years?
+Gregg Silk Those snow shovels weigh about 2 pounds and are flimsy. Not a weapon. And cast iron? That's the last thing I would bug out with. Might as well take my weight set too.
I loved that movie! I loved the comments! So colorful! From the movie, I would add that we have plenty of what we need, food, water, shelter. We still need to learn to communicate between us, trust each other, share our resources from the start, and then we will thrive!
The moral of the story is, even when we live in despair and in need of others, we still put our selfish agendas first instead of working together toward our survival. This is a true of human relationship with Mother Earth.
Wow..this film is an psychological roller coaster! It took me on an ever-changing emotional thrill ride. Two individuals, each with very different needs, reacting to a crisis in completely different ways. I’d say I would love to see it play out a little further, but it’s totally complete- nothing more could be added. I was really drawn into this story. A tragic misunderstanding.
@@OldNavajoTricks i opened a can about 28 years ago at a time I was really doing bad, not that things have gotten so much better, but anyway it was my dinner for that day. I went to put a heaping spoon in my mouth and on top was a 2 inch pickled in corn juice grub worm with the head and hairs and all!!! I shrieked , then thought "this is my golden grub! Ima bout to sue the shit outta someone!" I was 17 and a dumbass. Anyway about the time I was showing my uncle, my dog jumped up on the couch and grabbed the spoon with his muzzle and scarfed down my grub!
She figured out , when she read the journal , this guys' mind was fried . She didn't want to be controlled by a nut case that would "never let her go". To say he came on a little too strong is a massive understatement. The shovel incident was just an appetizer for what was to come . CooCoo Cocoa puffs! Good instincts Claire ! Good film!
Hey, that gun on the table at the start is actually a bb gun. I know cuz I have one just like it that I got new when I was 12. I'm now 70 and it still works fine!
This truly shows the tragic vulnerabilities we all have, how untrustworthy we are & how sadly this disgusting world plays out daily for people. Great job with the loneliness, I felt that once in prison… just any contact was a true ache in my soul.
I didnt know that this is an old film, well that makes me depressed. I can't imagine the pain that the guy was going through, and seeing his reaction outside his house and just getting killed because of a woman. I loved the film, not going to forget about it.

That was great. There were a few technical issues, as mentioned already, but beyond that, this was an excellent work. The acting was superb; the music, fitting; the story, compelling; the cinematography, nearly professional; and above all, their humanity was captured brilliantly. It's sad, but the ending isn't anything we can't imagine happening. But it is the artist's job to portray it nonetheless, and this you did well.
Everyone always gets hung up on the weaponry used as props in these short films... which are almost always made on extremely low budgets, sometimes by school kids who are merely trying to learn about the filmmaking process. Get over it... they are just props.
This was so sad but at the same time you can’t expect someone to hear you out after you knock them over the head with a shovel then carry them to a locked door under your house.
I mean he did tell her that he still had food, she never saw him go into his secret stash? He was there when she was approaching his house. She never wondered what he was doing under his house? Did she really think he could fit 4 years worth of food in a cupboard?
This really shows how important it is for us to have contact with others; living alone goes against human nature. And of course he was an emotional wreck. She has hope--her brother. I've seen this, my brother isolated himself in a small caravan with no electric in Austin, Texas. My parents finally went and found him, brought him home. He didn't talk much. Slowly he got back to being "a person". He turned out fine, started a recycling setup, applied for his V.A. pension and we got him back. Can't say that for everyone. Some people go past the point and never come back in their head. 😢
Movie tier level acting and cinematography. The fact that the story was able to add so many possible scenarios right up to the point where Claire discovers the journal it could've gone plenty of different ways. But the suspense after she finds the journal overpowers every other emotions other than a sense of despair when he's outside for the first time with no mask. Now that's some serious tension and release.
It would still be better to keep it all down in the basement and just keep bringing some up every week or so like he was doing. The reason being you never know when random people are going to roll up on you and try to rob you for what you've got.
DJ, good point! Counter point, that lock wouldn't be hard to pick or break. Someone watching from the woods would be likely to pick it at night and make off with his whole stash, too.
in every shortmovie and movie i watch guuurls are the one who always survive..... Like in "I AM LEGEND" boy survives for a long time girl comes ruined everything But Nice movie i really like it! :D it was an awesome movie! :DDDD (Haters please dont hate this is my opinion! ok?)

I'm thinking she had just started spying on him shortly after the last time he brought up food supplies.
yes. she said he had been taking food from the cabinets every day for a week. She had only been watching him for a week. She took the first opportunity of him leaving the house to rob him. That happened to be the first time he left the house, to go to the stash all week
Masterpiece
How often we misunderstand one another. The tragedy is we never know it.
Anthony Coundouris you hit the nail on that one
Well put
This was so amazing,
so interresting. Loved it. Good job!
I've been watching this for 2 years and the ending still gets me everytimeee. Absolutely amazing film!

Really enjoyed this good story hes a brilliant actor 👏
That was a great ending!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That film was so good I feel like crying especially when david died I wish claire listened to him they could of lived for so much longer
Moral of the story, keep the beard.
lmaoo
LOL
Nallanyesmar
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
man, who keep his house clean must be a odd fish
+Nallanyesmar 😂🤣🤣 AWSOME Comment, this is true
I have a friend who is VERY HANDSOME 💋 But if he shaves his Mishmash he looks like FRED FLINSTONE !!! So Tru Dat.? ☮️❤️
This should be a real movie like what?!?! It's so perfectly and beautifully heart breaking, every second of it. Every second of it💔
This was so horrifiyingly good I'll never be able to watch this again
He ate corn for four years... but had soup in the basement.... Excellent film regardless!
Nowhere did they say that he ate ONLY corn for 4 years. He ate one can per day, not necessarily corn.
I really liked it, its got there two different side of human nature displayed very clearly
The female is played by Lou Diamond Phillips.
para bailar la bambaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
😂😂😂😂 OMG yesss
Officer Gregg 🤪😂😂😂
That's some funny shit!
NO ITS NOT AND YOU FUCK OFF
Just when you have everything going for you, a woman comes along...and BAM - screws it all up!
I recognized that Marksman pellet gun right away. Had one of those when I was a kid. Overall great movie. It makes my cupboards feel empty.
+PotzyMccoy I had the same pellet gun too. I wish I still had it, it was great fun to plink all kinds of things with it.
+Gregg Silk That's unfortunate. The metal construction was one of the coolest features.
Nice film, for a second I thought he had a bunch of bodies stored in there.
It seems that when given the choice, humans will usually make the wrong one.
I mean that's already obvious by now.
Peter Pranker obviously I would have chose differently .
I mean, death by daisy? Really?
I loved that movie! I loved the comments! So colorful! From the movie, I would add that we have plenty of what we need, food, water, shelter. We still need to learn to communicate between us, trust each other, share our resources from the start, and then we will thrive!
Still Great all these years later. Thanks!
YUP! ...I was blown away...such an abrupt adamant ending
Sweetcorn, the ultimate survival food, don't chew and it's endlessly recyclable!
Gross.
@@michaelskelton18 I agree, I can't be in the house if a tins opened...
Yah, that was gross. Just need to wash over and over again,
Are you a rabbit?
this film has aged well. Nicely done.
Can you do more of these videos
She figured out , when she read the journal , this guys' mind was fried . She didn't want to be controlled by a nut case that would "never let her go". To say he came on a little too strong is a massive understatement. The shovel incident was just an appetizer for what was to come . CooCoo Cocoa puffs! Good instincts Claire ! Good film!
His mind wasn't fried. He just got tired of writing, wrote how many days alone, that he was.
WELL, that's depressing. TWD primed me for it though. Poor David.. he was so sweet... Claire probably thought he was gonna lock in her in the cellar.
I don't always understand people
Well he DID hit her on the head with a shovel.
Oops - I’m replying to a person from the past.
Yeah but she read the journal. So she had to have known there was food there.
Great acting and overall my favorite short film on youtube right now! Great job.
Hey, that gun on the table at the start is actually a bb gun. I know cuz I have one just like it that I got new when I was 12. I'm now 70 and it still works fine!
"I was supposed to take the food and leave." Says it all. She was a spy. Glad she ultimately didn't find out about the food.
1000 days = 2 years (730 days) & 38.5 Weeks (8 months)
One of the better productions and better acting.. cheers ;-)
This truly shows the tragic vulnerabilities we all have, how untrustworthy we are & how sadly this disgusting world plays out daily for people. Great job with the loneliness, I felt that once in prison… just any contact was a true ache in my soul.
Wow what was that? This is the most saddest end :( but the story was so good :!
I didnt know that this is an old film, well that makes me depressed. I can't imagine the pain that the guy was going through, and seeing his reaction outside his house and just getting killed because of a woman. I loved the film, not going to forget about it.
July 2023... just found this. Really good short film. Sad tho..
This was ahead of its time! *Coronavirus era*
@WCD Robbo literally everybody who knew anything about coronaviruses knew we'd be getting a pandemic sooner rather than later.

you really are handsome!
This was most one of the saddest stories I saw😯😓😢😭 all because he didn't want to be by himself anymore😟😦🙁
3 years with food and candles....He should be happy....LMAO.
A good can opener is key
That was great. There were a few technical issues, as mentioned already, but beyond that, this was an excellent work. The acting was superb; the music, fitting; the story, compelling; the cinematography, nearly professional; and above all, their humanity was captured brilliantly. It's sad, but the ending isn't anything we can't imagine happening. But it is the artist's job to portray it nonetheless, and this you did well.
Lol at the BB gun “pistol” right in the beginning
Zombie slaying bb gun, lamo.
i suppose he could kill a zombie with it he would have to hit it with the gun
Everyone always gets hung up on the weaponry used as props in these short films... which are almost always made on extremely low budgets, sometimes by school kids who are merely trying to learn about the filmmaking process.
Get over it... they are just props.
This was so sad but at the same time you can’t expect someone to hear you out after you knock them over the head with a shovel then carry them to a locked door under your house.
What's so unusual about that? Lol
I mean he did tell her that he still had food, she never saw him go into his secret stash? He was there when she was approaching his house. She never wondered what he was doing under his house? Did she really think he could fit 4 years worth of food in a cupboard?
excellent script-writing, very good acting and directing,,,, outstanding short film overall.
Why leave the gun In the cabinet?? That thing would be on me 24/7 like cmon
Damn right.
Locked and frickin loaded.
After 1000 days? Suuuuuure
You mean to tell me she survives the zombie apocalypse with clanging metal pans while she walks around?
How does he have running water without power? Even with a well you've got to have a pump.
...water ETC can be pressurized underground-&-0r originate from higher elevation
@@wholeeyschmoley580 or magic
Movie tier level acting and cinematography. The fact that the story was able to add so many possible scenarios right up to the point where Claire discovers the journal it could've gone plenty of different ways. But the suspense after she finds the journal overpowers every other emotions other than a sense of despair when he's outside for the first time with no mask. Now that's some serious tension and release.
Very well done. I enjoyed it immensely. Great acting on both parts, very moving music too.
She sounds like a train walking through the Forrest, and he didnt hear her sneak up on his house?
soelvfaks1, Bear bells.
Well u think everyone/everything is dead u stop caring bout that kind of stuff
i want that house!!
Lol replying a 4 year old comment XD
when she basically said the virus wasn't airborne I would go down to that basement and grab all that ass load of food XD
I’m stocking up on can openers
Great short with a touch of humor at the end. Brilliant!.
it says it's a 30 minute film even though it's 30:01 seconds long fucking click bait
in every shortmovie and movie i watch guuurls are the one who always survive..... Like in "I AM LEGEND" boy survives for a long time girl comes ruined everything
But Nice movie i really like it! :D it was an awesome movie! :DDDD (Haters please dont hate this is my opinion! ok?)
usachef100 Typical, a women who doesnt agree with someones opinion.

Adam Soullier so fing true thank you like my mom won’t let my dad do crap she complains to much
It's because men sacrifice themselves for women. It's always been that way. All throughout time.
And he was trying to save a female infected, too.
Thanks for all the great comments everyone! Out of curiosity, how did y'all stumble across Day 1000?
It was recommended after seeing another short film. The title hooked me.
It came across in my feed, 11 years later. YT has some strange algorithms.
one of the better ones,,to bad it was so short,,worthy of continuation ,bravo
Wow not what I thought would happen.. this was an awesome film.
