I absolutely love this video! Not enough films show how everyday life would be for the average survivor. I'm excited to watch episode 2, and hopefully any other ones you have. I never thought I'd be so entertained by simple scavenging and travelling. I love the attention to detail, like how the survivor is experienced (resting, being careful, checking for traps/mines).
Terrific atmosphere. Totally told the story even without dialogue, exposition, or for that matter even a clear shot of his face. Wish we could see more!
Just watched. I like it a lot. Keeping it simple and developing a story is always a good thing. Everything is so instantaneous these days we hang on things like this. Just providing a .little morsel in betwn. Good work I look forward to part 2
There's only one critique I would have for this first episode, and it's something that's taught to every fresh off the bus recruit in boot camp. Never, ever, ever let your weapon get more than arm's distance from you! When he crawled under that flattened tank after the ammo can, he left his carbine and the rest of his gear outside. As soon as he had cleared enough space for him to get his knees underneath, turn around and pull the rest of your gear along with you. Especially if you're lone wolfing it.
+WWExploring 1984 Forward thinking? What's "forward thinking" about it? Nothing happened. All I saw was a homeless guy wearing a gas mask while wandering around the desert.
I have spent soooo long looking for post apocalyptic short films focusing more on the survival aspects rather than people runnin around killing eachother. I'm talkin years. This isn't exactly what I had in mind buuuuuut it's is the closest I have come across. Great job! :)
Post-apocalytic fiction tends to revolve around violence for the same reason children's fiction tends to revolve around the absence of adult rule. There are a few people who read/watch it cause they're interested in what it would be like to have to be completely self-reliant with few resources. But most people who watch it are attracted to the genre because of the absence of the rule of law and the opportunity to loot/rape/murder without legal penalty. Same reason those Purge films do so well at the box office. The whole idea has people enthralled.
Yeah, I think that there are more fans of this type than we sometimes believe. I mean, there were a LOT of players of the first and second "Fallout" games before consoles took over.. The main focus and enthralling part if thatgame was the whole, "exploring the wasteland, isolation etc" thing. There was always the chance of danger, otherwise it's just boring. But those games had a lot of fans and I can't help but think this type of thing appeals to Al those type fans.
Love the fact the M1 Carbine is used as the main weapon. Not even in my top 10 of SHTF weapon choices, but I love that lil rifle so much. Perfect critter gun on the farm
I liked this. Just take it in. No questions answered, it is just the way it is. These films always have the important issues up front: water, food, make sure you're not going to bump into anybody.
But that's the thing. You're going to bump into lots of people, and you'll have to get along with most of them some way or another. The self-sufficient individual, family, or small band is an unlikely unit in a post-collapse world. People must have society whether they like it or not. Prepping is all to the good, but it's going to cover only a few weeks at most. Then it's all about company, as the largest organized groups will win. A fair bet is that that group will be an extant government.
this is pretty good to be low(no) budget. i'm ready for episode three. who cares about the subtly differences in costume and such. i don't get hung up on the details. its the survival, struggle, plot that keeps my attention.
Awesome. Love the atmosphere and intensity of it. Also makes the viewer invested in the masked man. Why is he so cautious? Why does he need the gun? Is he wary of other people or something else? Always loved post-apocalyptic settings. RebOOTProductions, you've got yourselves a fan.
If anyone else, or another predator is around the gun can be a life saver. When things get that bad some critters and some people would consider it a shame to let 100 pounds of flesh just walk on by, not to mention any water, food, meds, ammo, that gun, usable shoes and socks he has.
His clothes are cleaner than mine and i didnt survive an apocalypse, i just hike on the weekends. He puts his gloves on in the barn but takes them off on the junk heap. How does he have dirt on his head but not his pants and shoes? He gets dirtier as time passes for no reason. Skulls don't get that clean without being scrubbed. His jacket cleans itself later on. Does the cameraman have the shakes? Why does he pet everything? But i liked it, keep it up.
FrostBurnt Daugherty well, it's the first sign of a shit production because it screams unimaginative or inexperienced. no one is going to go out of their way (and survive) to raid the surplus store if the bombs fall even as an afterthought. the canisters in a gas mask last what... 72 hours? and if you've packed fatigues in your "inch" bag, they're not going to outlast the scourge... your clothes will fall off of you after a few months. here's a realistic post-apocalyptic story: you don't have a gun because you used all the bullets you could carry the first month, you've learned to eat anything (without heat), you're thin, weak, filthy, tired, hungry, cold, and just looking for water or a hole to crawl into and die so you don't have to worry about your next meal. you're not going to wander the wastes alone for any significant amount of time. any reason you'd have for why you'd survive will just prolong the inevitable without community.
I enjoyed that very much. Whilst I could focus on the negative so easily, I won't do that because you are an intelligent person and you know the shortcomings. I like how your use of music was at a minimum, could have been a little softer overall. I like how the noise of walking and breathing and the wind etc was not edited out. very tense, I would have been eating all that wild mustard, and maybe dug a little for water where there seemed to be a lot of green stuff, lime mustard, just a thought. I could eat mustard flowers all day. good gonna watch part too now.

This is very close to what real survival would be about. But a couple of things...1: never, ever separate yourself from your gear or weapons. 2: The chances of finding 30 carbine ammo anywhere would probably be less than zero. 40 or so years ago when there was plenty of surplus stuff maybe, but not today.
Your series only has had two episodes yet it so impressed me so much that I have a proposal. I have a series called South Man on my channel and another RUclipsr has a series called Shadowlands. We have combined both of our series into one universe called the SSMU (Shadowlands-SouthMan Universe). Your setting and world just fits perfectly into our universe and we would be honor to add this short series to it, and as a way of honoring the series since it has not had a episode 3 since many years from now...
Thirteen years old? Very good. I do agree with liquidcactus that masks are over used, but the characters face needs to be hidden (perhaps use his hood to hide his face), in doing so it allows the viewer to become the character, free to apply his or her own emotions to a given situation. Keep up the good work
At least he didn't have an obvious BB gun like other films like this used, right? (just watched one that used a Red Ryder with a scope duct tape on it) Not bad for a student/amateur film. Sure, lotta holes and why's but still, decent entertainment and this one was pretty good despite the technical aspects. Good job with the bayonet probing in the ground for mines/booby-traps at the 12:00-12:50 mark... I've had to do that for real mines... good job there! Funny thing... the odds of finding .30 Carbine ammo there... LOL! But hey, at least it showed effort in the "scavenging supplies" thing, right?
When probing for mine you should use a wooden stick. A computer chip make modern mines smart enough to detect a metal probe. He could have used some 5 50 cord to open the ammo box from a safe distance if he suspect a boobi trap.
Very cool! One suggestion. Your survivor should have the gun in the blanket with him. If you've been humping all day and you're tired someone could sneak up and rip off your weapon while you sleep. Just a thought, you might use the concept later or in a different film
