Walking changed my life! I am almost 60 and have been walking daily for years and years. I would not be the woman I am without this committment to mind, body and soul.
This is so on point. I live in a village by the forest in Sweden, I go for a walk in the forest everyday with my dog. We spend around 30 min to 1 hour daily. It makes me feel very happy and content.
That is why I always tell people, including and especially my patients, that a habit of going for walks daily is a 'Superpower', a powerful medicine. How I wish I live near a forest like you, so I travel 15 mins to forested area at a nature reserve / reservoir for my daily walks.
I am 73 & I power walk 6 to 10 miles a day!!! I started slow at first & worked my way up to what I’m doing now!!! I do the power walk 6 days a week!!! I love it!!!
My wife had diagnosed Lymphoma,(cancer 4stage) in October 2018. She had been given 13 chemotherapy as well as 25 3dcrt radiation at Tata memorial hospital, Mumbai and B Barua hospital Guwahati respectively. The treatment took around 8 months. Since then she has started at least 1hour morning walk everyday with me till today. My experienced is that regular walking made her a healthy person physically and mentally.
After suffering from mild heart attack and feeling unwell for afew months i started going for daily walk 2 times per day for half an hour each. I cured myself with out medication and am enjoying good health now .Thanks alot doctor for video contents it's very true.
I understand it’s hard getting into exercising but if you grit and bear it a couple weeks, it really gets ingrained into your routine and you begin to feel weird if you ever miss a gym day or a walk. I work out every day and then do a 2-4 mile walk depending on my mood for the day. Any day I ever miss, whether something comes up, or inclement weather, I always feel kinda weird. Love my walks with music. It’s definitely my me-time
An excellent relevant video. Anyone can walk and the benefits are amazing. My doctor told me it would be beneficial to start walking each day. My mood picked up and being in nature was fun. He said 30 minutes at a minimum but try to do it each day. Lost weight was an extra benefit as I was happier walking.
A Habit of Walking Every Day is Powerful Medicine! I've been doing livestream on my TT account everyday during my daily morning walk to Walk the Talk and Talk whilst I walk. Cheers
I do walks at home (youtube videos) for at least 20 mins everyday and really noticed the difference in how i feel. Stamina has improved and i lost some weight too.
Thank you Dr Chan. You are right, all the things you say have happened to me after walking. I didn't know about cardiovascular health, that's good to know. Thanks for your good work.
Thanks Doc, I walk almost 10 k steps per day and you are spot on, I can certainly vouch that all the benefits you mentioned are well worth " walking" for... Thanks for sharing this.
'Knowing' is the first step, 'Doing' is the next step, and 'Doing it consistently' is the Key Step! Let's encourage more people, if their health permits it, to have a daily walking habit. Blessings, Dr Chan
I started walking plus brisk walking few weeks ago and wow I feel so good… calf muscles are so good now, lost some arm fats and don’t feel tired upon waking up and don’t need anymore naps. Love it!!! Will make sure I stay disciplined on this! If it is too cold use walking routine videos from home on RUclips. It gets very cold and gloomy here in winter so I am doing that. Plus walking outdoors where it’s not always flat grounds, with up and down the sloped paths can do us more harm than good cos our knees ligaments tendons etc can be injured.
Great video. I plan on getting one of those under-the-desk treadmills on Black Friday and walking daily on it as I listen/watch podcasts or something. I won't walk outside due to safety concerns but hope to move to one of those gated communities where I will feel safe and join a walking club or something. I'm looking forward to the benefits
Great practical advice Dr. Chan. Everyone knows walking is good for them, but most people don't know all of these benefits, which will hopefully motivate more people to walk regularly. Whenever I'm very stressed and anxious, walking always makes me feel better, more relaxed and a more positive mood after. I need to walk more, it's difficult here in Canada in the winter as it's freezing.
I am 68 years old and have been a competitive runner in my youth and even a Masters competitive runner until 10 years ago. I stopped because it became a strain to race and I was not enjoying it. For the past several years I have jogged three to four days a week for about twenty minutes at a time. I have even done 4 Park runs in the last few years however the last one I did was 10 months ago and I found this too gruelling and haven't been back. I have a goal to return to Park run and enjoy it. I have tried to lose weight over the years but have been unsuccessful and am 5 kilos overweight. The reason for my comments is that for the last two days I have gone for 30 minute walks and afterwards felt terrific. It has been a while since I have had that "endorphins" type feeling. As well, I slept really well last night. Sleep is important to me since I have Bipolar. The upshot is that today I resolve to walk 30 minutes every day and I want to put this resolve out there to show I am committed. By the way, thanks Dr Chan for your excellent video.
Yes, walking, often wrongly seen by many as 'inferior' an exercise compared to more vigorous activities like running, swimming or cycling, can be powerful medicine indeed for the mind, body and soul, especially when one is able to do so daily or at least regularly. Glad that you have 'discovered' the power of a daily walking habit 👍
I've got a dalmatian dog...used to have two. They need lots....lots..if exercise. I walk around 30 miles a week 😁😁😁 with my four legged personal fitness trainer.
These are very good and true benefits of walking. I started recording my walks recently. I have uploaded some of them on my RUclips channel. The actual walk videos I have done will encourage you to walk as you see my examples. Let's walk together 😅😅
Hi doc, thanks so much for your wonderful sharing. I truly benefitted a lot from your videos ! May I check with you is the following a good routine for a 50 yr old ? Mon to Thur - 5 km Brisk walk with speed of ard 6.5km/h with 3kg ankle weight Sat & Sun - 8 km casual walk with ankle weight Thanks ! 🙂
An exercise routine should be both health promoting as well as safe, so it is important to work closely with your doctor to make sure that your exercise routine is good and safe at the same time.
Thank you, Dr. Chan., I clean houses 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. Is that a substitute for walking? After a long illness I would like to get back into walking on my days off. I am wondering if I still need to do on the days that I clean houses. Also, I'm turning age 65 soon. Thank you!
Every man should do pull ups everyday. I’m 62 and have a pull up bar in my bedroom. I can do 10 pull ups. Strength is so important. Yes I walk everyday
😄 patience patience. Even when you 'see' / feel no significant difference, a daily walking habit would still be health promoting in ways that you do not 'see' or feel
I BEEN WALKING FOR 2 YEARS ALMOST EVERYDAY,I GAIN WEIGHT , OR FAT SINCE I RETIRED,I WORK OUT EVERYDAY MOSTLY I DONT BELIEVE THERE IS NOT WEIGHT MAINTENANCE IN WALKING,SOUND STUPID SAYING THAT,BUT I NEVER LOST WEIGHT,I GAIN WEIGHT.BUT I WALK FOR 30 MINUTES,I CRASH MY MOTORCYCLE A YEAR AN A HALF,SO I CANT PUSH TO FAR OR ILL GET HURT FROM WHERE I AM HEALING.I BELIEVE U HAVE TO RUN OR A LIGHT WEIGHT SMALL BIKE RIDING FREAK
Glad you did. That you focused on my intention and message behind the video rather than my delivery of the message, however imperfect that might be. Cheers

i walk 1 hour daily for two weeks now i feel strong and healthy .i also remove rice, bread ,pasta and other unhealthy carbs . i already lose 3 lbs
👍👍👍
Doc, is walking can also prevent losing reflexes and reaction time as we age? Do you have some ways to prevent that?
After dinner I walk 1 hour daily
Can you get these same benefits from walking on a treadmill or riding a stationary recumbemt bike?
Thank you!! 😁

I have walked every day most of my life & currently, I walk my dogs at least 1 hour+
It's good if these benefits are true rather than having to do strenuous running
Tqvm I tell my friends to do so don't sit at home 😅
😀
Yeah I push myself every morning
Walking releases endorphins, which can help lighten your mood and lower the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
I have most of these issues and they make me so tired that I can only walk maybe 3 x a week. sometimes up and hills.
What to do to do?
Walking three times a week is better not walking at all. Do it for yourself.
I too have issues. I walk 5 times a week. My health has improved greatly.
Every man should do pull ups everyday.

Does one become healthier through walking 10 000 steps a day, or rather one walks 10 000 steps because one is healthier?
DAA DAAA DAAAA DAAA. It's like a tense constricting energy when you talk. Let the blood flow doc.
