In another news, a Harvard study showed that Oreos reduced LDL cholesterol more than cholesterol-lowering drugs did. The author of the study (Dr Norwitz) has a RUclips channel explaining the mechanism
haha ... yes, am aware of that attention grabbing 'study' on Oreos and cholesterol, but for people who do not know or understand the context of that Oreos 'study' may get confused by it and end up giving up on optimising their diet to better manage their cholesterol levels out of exasperation with how 'confusing' the topic of diet - cholesterol - health seem to be. That would be a pity. The context of that Oreos 'study' was about how refeeding carbohydrates to LMHR phenotype people practising a low carb diet may help lower their very high LDL ....
Thankful for this information it is the best wisdom and honest advice and understanding that I can put into my understanding on how to swim through the medical media
Thank you for this. Doctor can you comment on cholestrol impact of only consuming egg whites. As a vegetarian, i rely a lot of egg-whites for protein and want to understand the impact of cholestrol with egg-whites
Hi, I apologise that it is inappropriate for me to give specific individual advice, but my general advice would always be to focus on improving one's lifestyle and dietary habits holistically, instead of looking to supplements, superfoods of any kind. Blessings, your neighbour (Singapore) :-)
People with high cholesterol would definitely benefit from making the necessary changes and improvement to their diet, it may lower their elevated cholesterol to some degree (sometimes significantly), even if it doesn't, the change and improvement to their diets, if done correctly, would still benefit their overall long term health. If possible, get some help, work with someone to guide & coach you to review and make change changes to your diet. All the best! Blessings
But what type of cholesterol does it raise? HDL? That is good. Also... LDL comes in different types....large fluffy...is good and not damaged. Then there is the small, damaged LDL. It is damaged from sugar, insulin resistance, stress. Now cholesterol shows up at the accident site to help healing. The cause of plaque is inflammation, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress. Anyway....u want high HDL and u dont want small damaged LDL. This does not get re absorbed. Doesnt fit into the system. Have to really look at full picture not just part. Bog picture. Time to learn a lot more and then come back. Eggs are good...great nutritional profile. Keep studying. More to it. Cholesterol is not really bad...only if you create that situation. Get HDL up, triglycerides down. And dont damage your LDL. Need inflammation down, insulin sensitivity up, and oxidative stress down. That is the main thing. And get good nutrients, exercise, rest. Big picture. The chronic inflammation associated w insulin resistance and oxidative stress ..strong correlation btwn this and cardiovascular disease! Tired of the incomplete picture.
Excellent comment. My recent blood test found that I have moderate HDL but very high LDL. The test did not distinguish between large fluffy LDL and small dense LDL. My fasting blood sugar and triglycerides are both low. For the last several months, my diet has been high in both fat and sugar. Does that mean I would likely have a lot of harmful small dense LDL?
Thank you for this information.
Glad it was helpful! Blessings, Dr Chan
I ate lots of eggs for awhile. My HDL cholesterol went up for the first time
Doc, do you agree with what Dr Paul Saladino and Dr Paul Mason say about cholesterol?
Very detailed explanation.

Looks like sample is too small to be a valid survey.
Do also look at the meta analysis of 66 RCTs involving more than 3000 participants...
