My mom and I recently switched from white to brown to red and the final choice is black rice. And we are loving it. It doesn't really feel heavy on the belly.
Wow Dr. Chan this is very impressive. I am a registered Dietitian Nutritionist in the USA and I am impressed of how detailed and tpansparenancy of this information. Thank you for your work and passion. Blessings 🙏🏽
Most people eat white rice here in Japan, but I eat brown rice almost every day because it 's nutrient-rich and keeps my bowels regular. Never heard of black rice before. Learned a new thing. Thanks.
I actually don't care for brown rice but I do like white rice. My favorite is black rice though it's delicious packed with nutrients and it just all around is better and more filling. I'm interested to have red rice on its own because I've only had it as a part of mixed wild rice. There's a jade rice that is really good too but it's just short grain white rice soak them Bamboo juice that makes it green and add silica to it but it's tasty as well.
I like a blend of Wahani (red rice), Long grain brown rice, Black rice (short grain) with a little "Wild Rice" (not really rice at all). Sprinkle a bit of quinoa, and amaranth, allow 5% more water than straight white rice. Use this for my stir fry....Yum!
Really great breakdown, news to me despite living in Asia more than 10 years as I typically avoid rice. Just got a rice cooker trying to explore more and got black rice today! Greetings from a Swede in Beijing 🤗☀️
Been switching from white rice to black and red rice about a month now for my T2 diabetes and I love the taste it’s very yummy and filling no need to have a lot of it and it keeps my belly full. Compared to white rice I used to be able to eat a lot. So I wouldn’t go back to white rice for sure. Thank you Dr chan
Here in Italy it's quite popular to see the "Venere" black rice type around, it's so tasty as well especially with things like peas, mais, carrots and chickpeas
My wife and I who is Asian would go out to dinner in China Town the do some shopping at the local Asian grocery stores. We found this one particular brand of black rice that was the best rice I ever tasted. It was labeled Emperors Rice. Very nutty flavor. We tried other black rice brands over the years but none were this delicious.
Thanks Dr Chan for the informative post. Appreciate. Keep the information coming. May God bless and keep you in good health to continue providing us with more educative and health related topics
I recently made vegan sushi (tofu, zucchini, carrot, sesame seeds, chili flakes, sea salt, avocado with nori) using black rice, and it was so yummy to me. I do not like rice a lot, but this black rice I enjoy with sushi. I rinsed the rice, and used more water when cooking it. I wonder if that helps reduce the arsenic, but since I do not eat rice daily I do not think it will hurt my health.
I rly love black (emperor) rice. It really has this special taste. I don't really know how to describe it but while cooking it, the boiling water tasted very little acidic for some reason. It has this rich in fiber taste and if we have to compare the fiber richness, it's most comparable to plain oats.
Thank you Dr. Chan. I'm in Philippines for 1 month and all I see is white rice. When I move back to Thailand, I've been studying which is the healthiest rice I should buy. Every article I read kept putting brown rice #1. It was confusing, because looking at the nutrients of each, black rice looked like a better choice (antioxidants and lower fat). Maybe when I go to Makro in Thailand, it won't be a choice, but it's good to know what I should choose if I do have a choice. With that said, I'm curious about red rice and wild rice in comparison to black rice. I know wild rice isn't rice, but in some ways it looks healthier because it is lower in fats. (FYI, lowering fats has been my goal this year. Never cared about fats before, but realizing what a difference it makes.)
Picked up some black rice after watching your video. Very tasty! I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone, but I'm trying to eat less white rice so this is an alternative to mix into my diet. Thanks!
I prefer red or black rice over white rice. but some people are too used to the texture and taste of the more common white rice. Glad you enjoyed the black rice. Cheers
I wish that more people would do their homework like Dr. Chan. There is so much misinformation on RUclips and various other media that is not only confusing, but inaccurate. One of the most misunderstood concepts about ride is the word "white". Many people think that white rice is a specific species. I alway look for "Whole Grain" when choosing rice; it is only applied to rice that. has not been stripped of the germ and bran which hold most of the nutrients. Many thanks to Dr. Chan!
