You trying to figure out Hannibal's game plan is giving me so much glee I can barely contain myself. Every time I'm like "Oh boy! Just you wait!" I'm absolutely cackling over your reactions and guesses. I have to tie my fingers together to keep from spoiling anything. Also, you'll notice a lot of fun guest stars as the series progresses. The serial killer of the week usually has some thematic link to the rest of the plot. In episode 2 it was 'connections' and in episode 4 it was 'family'. For example: The FBI agents all talked about their families, Hannibal tried to recreate a family for Abigail, Jack and his wife discussed having kids, and Will was surrounded by his dogs in the last scene.
I'm definitely starting to pick up more and more how it's all relating back. I've already recorded 5 & 6 and it's more obvious in those.

Abigail was telling Hannibal she knows he was the one who called the house. Because Will has already pieced put that the caller was the Copycat Killer, it's an implicit threat - I know what you've done, I could give you up but I'm not right now.
Hannibal offers to "help" Abigail because it brings them closer and makes her much less likely to report him. You tell on me, I'll tell on you.
Hannibal's also trying to isolate Abigail. Nobody else would understand. They already think you're a killer, they will never believe you. I'm the only person you can trust. You're a violent, sick person and I'm the only person who will ever understand you.

"Oh my God, was I just rooting for a kid?" This made me laugh.
Hannibal's reason for the "field kabuki" (the dead girl mounted on the deer head w/antlers like she was effectively a dinner table) was to do as he told Jack he would do, "I believe I can help dear Will see his face." Remember, Will was having a hard time imprinting on Garret Jacob Hobbs and it wasn't until he saw Hannibal's design that he was able to make the connection simply by way of compare and contrast. As Will said to Hannibal in the Hotel room:
Will: I don't think the Shrike killed that girl in the field.
Hannibal: The Devil is in the details. What didn't your copycat do to the girl in the field? What gave it away?
Will: Everything. It's like, he had to show me a negative so that I could see the positive. It...that crime scene was practically gift wrapped.
Hannibal was amusing himself, of course...but his main aim was to help Will with his imprinting block because there was something about "a sensitive empathetic serial killer" that was hitting too close to home for Will.
When Will and Hannibal spoke with Abigail the first time, you seemed to miss the part where when she asked Will: "So, killing somebody, even when you have to do it, feels that bad?" Will replies, "It's the ugliest thing in the world." Hannibal shoots Will a look because Will is lying to her and doing so with perfect emotional inflection (the first clue as to Will's capacity for masterfully manipulation). That is not at all what Will said to Hannibal. Will quite enjoyed the act of killing Hobbs.
As for Hannibal and dogs, I laugh a lot when I read fanfictions and they always have Hannibal as loathing Will's dogs or animals in general. It's simply not even remotely true LOL In the novels, he has a great affinity for dogs (and even aggressive dogs will become submissive around him...he was even able to just walk untouched through a slew of man-eating pigs on Verger farm), as well as an affinity for horses and swans. He distasted poaching and believed in humane butchering. The exception was the human animal who proved themselves to be literal p.o.s. and rude uncultured pricks. It's what people often forget about Hannibal. He killed people that kinda had it coming...like the poacher that he shot through the head with a cross bow and then strung him up next to the deer he had poached. Anyway, my point here being, Hannibal would never hurt Will's dogs and he most certainly wouldn't see the dogs as a nuisance. He would enjoy bringing them some bits home of a person who had chained their dog outside LOL
At the end of 1X4 Hannibal had been expecting Will to show up...so in that ending scene, when Abigail looked to Hannibal and Alana and saw her parents and said she saw "family"...it was supposed to be Will in Alana's seat. It kinda gives a foreshadowing of what Hannibal's motivation was in regards to Will and Abigail. And yes, Hannibal is trying to help Will and continues to try to help Will throughout the show...even when Will deserves it the least.
Looking back at this show, I always feel bad for Abigail's cousin especially since she's probably the last family member Abigail was close to and had her back while she was going through so much. Her only crime was "rudeness" to her mom/Abigail's aunt while Hannibal was within earshot - and (arguably) reasonably so!
Hannibal killed Cassie Boyle so that seeing a similar kill with a very different emotion would help Will to understand the other killer's motivation more clearly. He was helping 😊.
Yes, Hannibal is definitely getting off on listening to Will talk about his 'art' he knows Will has a morbid fascination with him and he loves it.

I forget which year it was but for April Fool's Day, they did a teaser trailer for a new TV show called Cooking With Hannibal. I was getting all excited til I realized it was just a joke. I can't find a video of it anywhere now but it was good.
The episodes focus on Hannibal and Will's interaction. that's the main story.

If it makes you feel better the actor for Hannibal, Mads, he actually learned how to cook each meal on set so it looked as realistic on set! So the good news is the food is actually real and delicious!

Hannibal realized she was on to him and decided to use her killing Nicholas as a thing to basically blackmail her into keeping his secrets. Helping her means she will be in his debt.
Will is cute. :D Bryan Fuller knows the fans. ;) He tweeted a picture while filming, I think it was season 2, of one costume, which was a pair of very tight swimming trunks with the caption of something like "you're welcome" :P
Those poor boys. :( They either kill their family or they get killed. I feel like Jack has very little empathy for those kids. He seems to only see them as either victims or killers, and from the way he talks about it, he doesn't seem to understand that those kids were killers because they are victims, both are true, but being forced to kill is a different beast than wanting to kill. And he talks about those boys as if they're happily killing people left and right.
And yeah, this season is mostly an fbi show with VERY extra visuals and style, especially the first half, but it gets less formulaic as time goes on. Not that it was very formulaic to begin with, but it did sort of have that pretense of being a police procedural. It helps to let go of that tbh, you shouldn't look too closely at evidence and red herrings and other mystery tropes, because the show doesn't look at that at all. :P
