I think Hannibal wanted Will to kill Tobias but when he saw Tobias, he thought he had killed Will. That's why he is happy when he sees him come through the door.

Read the screenplay because im I'm austistic and have no sense for social cues... can confirm this. The stage directions say:
Will eyes the BLOODY STAG STATUE next to Tobias’ dead body.
Hannibal is visibly relieved to see Will alive and well.

Hannibal is a character that is all about indulgence and aesthetics. He enjoys the finer things in life with no limit, like art, music, and of course food. So he generally prefers to kill and eat 'lesser' and 'inferior' people he believes pollute the world and turn them into something useful like beautiful food, hence why he hates rudeness and discourtesy like killing that health guy who insulted him, to make the world better/more pleasing for him to live in. So the opera singer would be safe because she genuinely has a talent and gift for singing he enjoyed 😉

Very entertaining reaction! I love your edits. I think a big part of why Hannibal sends Will to Tobias is the line that Bedelia (his therapist) says: "You spend a lot of time building walls. It's natural to want to see if someone is clever enough to climb over them." Even if Hannibal cares about Will, he also wants to see if Will is as interesting and clever as he thinks he is, so catching Tobias could be a test of that.
Oh that's a good way to look at it. This show is DEEP
Final thing but Hannibal's motive for sending Will to Tobias was revealed in his therapy session if you listen, he wanted to test and see if Will was worthy of his friendship, to climb over the wall he put in front of him and see Hannibal for what he is as his therapist said 🤔
13:00 I love how Will is so disconnected that he cannot socialise with people and het he would consider bringing a wine bottle to Hannibal, even though he isn't gonna attend the party.
Friendship was the main theme of E9 and this shows that even though Hannibal repeatedly says that he needs a friend and someone to understand him.
But the hypocrisy of *Hannibal when he rejected the friendship of Tobias (when he's ready to accept Hannibal), because who he really want is ONLY WILL GRAHAM.*

It's the biggest thing. Bryan Fuller (the director) has been very vocal about it too. The interviews might contain spoilers but this show was catered to be an unconventional love affair btw these two.
Especially, here even Bedelia mentions that Hannibal has a "special someone" who he'll like to climb the walls that Hannibal has created to hide himself; wearing a person-suit. And there is an underlying tension of Franklin obsession over Hannibal (mirroring Hannibal's obsession for Will) and Hannibal straight out asks him, if he's gay?
And like the scenes are pretty obvious too; Will has no problem having prolonged eye contact with Hannibal but has with everyone except him (Even Alana).
Please keep a keen eye as you watch more episodes.
This was one of my favorite episodes because Hannibal literally tells the guy that he himself is a psychopath and it just goes over everyone’s head “psychopaths are self aware that they’re psychopaths” he tells him he’s attracted to psychopaths not just because Tobias is one but because he keeps seeking out Hannibal to try to form a friendship with him.
Another Gillian Anderson stan was born this day. That is some relatable content. She really is flawless in this series.

Crawford is arguably also badly affected by the work, and the stress and trauma may have contributed to his temper. He is also clearly haunted by his failure to protect Miriam and to catch the Ripper.
Hannibal has been messing with and slowly, bit by bit, psychologically destroying Jack years before the start of the series. Have I mentioned that Hannibal is evil incarnate? The absolute worst thing about his horrific actions is that he has no motive for them; he's doing all this to Jack simply because he enjoys it.
Gods I love rewatching Hannibal and knowing how it all plays out,, and that look Will gives Hanni,, he’s figuring things out ever so slightly and Hannibal being genuine about worries over Will being alive or not just!!!!

These two episodes, the pilot, and the finale are my favs in this season! Oh, and Hannibal is not addicted to human meat, he eats the rude because he likes to play god. He kills because he's curious about what would happen.
So Hannibal is canonically pansexual and that doctor he killed on the side of the road was being homophobic toward him implying he had and was lying about having man STD/STI because Hannibal is not straight. Just a little detail I love.

My theory is that Hannibal sent Will to investigate Tobias because he was kinda jealous of what happened between Alana and Will. Even though he did that, I totally believe how worried he was about Will's life.

The show Hannibal gives us Hannibal, Tobias, Eldon "mushrooms are cool", so many creepy killers, but the worst one is Franklyn. XD
I love the music as Will watches Hannibal work in the Ambulance. He's having an epiphany or he's falling in love, or both.
Every episode Hannibal casually admits he is a killer. "I transferred my passion for surgery into the culinary arts." Like. Some more cannibal puns please. :P
The making other people unwittingly eat human part of Hannibal's thing, it's definitely part of his pathology as a killer. I don't know how familiar you are with Hannibal rising? There is an experience in there that explains his pathology.
Hannibal is not seeing how he is exactly like Franklyn, with his own psychiatrist. He's less annoying about it, but he is the same.
Will just barges into Hannibal's home in the middle of the night (also he drove hours to do that), he just throws his jacket on the floor and tells Hannibal he kissed Alana. Hannibal watches that jacket and thinks you're very lucky you're cute, but you'd be dead otherwise.
Meanwhile Tobias is clearly dead for presuming Hannibal would be his friend.
Will: Hes, I'm having auditory hallucinations. Is this a problem?
Hannibal: Naaah! You're fine! Oh btw, there's a guy who's very sus you should probably go and visit him.
I think Hannibal likes Will, but wanted to test him, see if he is not only clever enough to climb his walls but also evade another killer, like, is Will good enough to be his friend.
Mads Mikkelsen used to be a professional dancer, there are low quality videos on the internet somewhere of him show dancing, and doing the splits in hotpants. He's very good in fight scenes and I think it's at least in part due to that.
I can definitely see him having a dancers background!

Regarding Brian (the man in the FBI team whom you observed to often argue with Will): Until Will showed up, Brian was the smartest person in the group, and he knew it and liked reminding everyone of it. While he is often frustrated with Will being able to match him, he also sees it as a welcome challenge.
The actor said Zeller hates not being the smartest guy in the room when Will is there.
Your reactions are so funny, omg! I got a different interpretation of Hannibals action...when he asked Will if he was still hearing the killer's melody, Will said: "It's our song" and right after Hannibal tells him where to find Tobias (ignoring the patient confidenciality). I interpreted it as jealousy that Will has created a connection with Tobias (who had told Hannibal he was looking for someone who understood him, and that's what Will does). Also he wanted to test Will, to see if he was worth of his interest by surviving another killer, that's why Hannibal got pissed thinking Tobias had killed Will and got relief after seen he was alive (not because he was afraid for Will but afraid he might be wrong about his judgment of him)...That's my reasonable explanation, my #Hannigram heart however says it was for love and hannibals heart skipped a beat when he saw Will alive.

I was curious about catgut string and a quick google search says no it's not made from cat's guts thank god😅
Catgut strings are usually made from sheep/goat guts, makes sense since some are killed for their meat already. Catgut was originally called kitgut, used to call strings on "kit" (old word for fiddle).
I read about the catgut strings online and it said catgut was referring to sheep intestines so even though it's still disturbing...if it makes you feel better I don't think they were made of actual cat guts. And nowadays they are made from steel or synthetic materials. I have 2 cats myself so I get it.
i always like looking at people new to Hannibal reacting in disgust to the cooking scenes, whereas us seasoned (ha!) Fannibals just get... hungry
I'm glad I'm not the only one. The first time I watched the show, (and every rewatch since) I always think "that's looks delicious" and I get hungry and wish I could sit down with them... 😁💀
Hannibal is the sort who pays very very close attention to the very slight details in others. Body language. Vocal Tone. the gravity of spoken responses within any given conversation. He sees how such varies between certain individuals and proceeds to select to engage more closely with those who perhaps peak his best interest for certain intentions that he himself wants to either be kept very much silent. (Such as happily serving folks as food to other folks.) which would most likely lead to them being part of the next course..... or that he can somewhat empathise with those who are layered in darkening tainted thoughts... sparked by various degrees of their own personal traumas. In that case? He tends to ask invoking questions to said troubled soul... to get a curious response.... and to gage just how alike they are to him in some shape or form. he thrives on such things.
Good news, catgut is not cats! Like a commenter below mentioned, it's made with sheep or horse intestines (probably more sheep since they are butchered more frequently)
Your analysis about Hannibal sending Will is correct. The famous Chef Jose Andres was the series Culinary Consultant to help the crew and producers make the food look authentic as possible for the camera. Another great reaction, You are soo funny :)

Yes!! The bathroom scenario in this episode and episode one are an homage to the shinning because Bryan Fuller (the creator of the show) is a big fan of the movie. And also yesss! Gillian Anderson is from the x files and she is a QUEEN!!! here she looks fantastic, we live her ❤

In my view these last two episodes have Will seeing Hannibal in a new light, a good one.
In the ambulance, for me, Will realises there is more to Hannibal, that he use to save people.
I also write fanfic, so i could probably come up with a lot more reasons. I know someone mentioned fannibals. I can't wait until you find out what else is used. I don't think its spoilers, but i am not going to say anything just in case.

@@nicksaysboo17 I did, it would've been a Showmasters event in London. Can't remember the exact date, but Dredd had come out as i met Karl Urban the same weekend. I've been doing cons since 2000, so remembering exact dates is not easy lol.
Fromage is my favorite episode in Season 1! Soooo glad you enjoyed it. Getting to see a knock-down-drag-out fight between two serial killers was such a treat, haha. That scene and the suffocation of Miriam were the first times we ACTUALLY see Hannibal commit violence on screen, instead of it being implied, and there’s something so satisfying about that.
Listen for the tune Hannibal starts to play on the piano when he’s killed Tobias and thinks Will is dead - it’s Bach’s “The Goldberg Variations,” which is the piece that was playing in the first shot we got of Hannibal in Ep 1 and recurs quite commonly as a character theme throughout the series - a nod to Silence of the Lambs, in which Lecter states he’s fond of Bach and requests the song be played in his cell, and the following film Hannibal, which uses it as a theme throughout. The aria was originally written to soothe and cheer the sleepless nights of an insomniac Count, so take from that what you will.
Much of Hannibal’s motivation to do anything is usually based in curiosity - what and who can he manipulate, and how? What effect can he exert on the world? What kinds of monsters can he draw out of people? In this instance, imo the implication is that Hannibal is testing Will - he sees a possible peer or rival in Tobias, and wants to see (as Bedelia says) if the man he’s become so obsessively curious about is clever enough to climb those walls and take that lesser imitation of himself down. He wants Will to succeed - because if he does, it means he just might have the potential to be the equal he’s been searching for.
I think he was genuinely upset/disappointed when Tobias showed up, thinking Will had failed and was dead. He truly was, in a sense, mourning.
Will presents something new for Hannibal, I think - an equal, a friend, a companion - and thus his emotions and intentions surrounding Will’s manipulation can at times be confusing and contrary to his known patterns and sense of self. I think he finds that conflict in himself intriguing and novel, and he is supremely interested in fostering it for as long as he can.
I’m LOVING your journey through my favorite show in the world!!! Your intuition and theories have been spot on too many times to count. You’re gonna LOVE what’s coming. Can’t wait to see you really get into the meat of it and “SEE” why it’s so widely acclaimed. Season Two is the best. Holy shit. I’m so pumped.

To answer what is smells like in a morgue: If everybody's fairly fresh it's a bit like a butcher's/raw meat kinda smell imo, if they're a bit more decomposed/burnt/completely decomposed etc then it's genuinely indescribable and dissimilar from any other smell!

Hannibal is not addict to the human flesh like to drugs, he doesn't want to eat everybody he sees, he will be perfectly okay if he couldn't eat human meat for years (well, maybe he will be very bored and frustrated but still). His bodies presentations, his cooking are his form of art and killings and consuming the rude people, the unworthy ones are part of his moral code. There are so much more in his character than you continue to repeat every episode. You are cute af and you are obviously smart, but this is getting frustrating.
Hannibal have sent Will to Tobias because this is what he always do - he wanted to look what will happen. And that's why he did this call to Jacob Hobbs in th 1st episode - to watch what will happen. He didn't want Will to die and that's why when he saw Tobias he thought that he killed Will and out of anger killed Franklin (well, and because he was annoying af).
p.s. this is so fun to watch how Will ruined his date with Alana and went to Hannibal to ruin his date with Tobias, lol.
