Fun fact, the writer of the series, Bryan Fuller, says that the chicken soup is the only time Hannibal is honest about what's in the dish and it contains no human anything
The twist, though, is that Hannibal knows he has an autoimmune disease and is feeding Will foods that strengthens the immune system. The soup is making Will sicker.
@@Laecynot quite, that’s not how traditional medicine or science really works. Most of the ingredients Hannibal listed, ginseng, ginger, goji berries (Wolfberry) and star anise are said to have anti-oxidants or anti-inflammatory properties. They are meant to help a person recover by soothing the symptoms and preventing damage, not by making his immune system stronger and more aggressive. And they wouldn’t be able to do much in the face of the cocktail of drugs he’s probably on anyway.
Hannibal also can’t risk feeding will any human meat because a) the meat isn’t clean or tested, he could make will sicker and he doesn’t want that, and b) if he did get sick and it was picked up in any tests they did, there’s a very short list of food will has eaten in hospital and it would trace back to Hannibal so fast.
TLDR: Hannibal is being both careful and caring when he made this soup for Will and it wasn’t meant to make him sicker. Will has auto-immune encephalitis, aka inflammation of the brain, and the ingredients are largely meant to reduce inflammation.

I think 99% of the viewers were devastated watching sweet bambino Will spaz out before his seizure. I know I did. His "please don't lie to me!" could break the coldest heart. That's how the "flower crown for Will" thing happened during the run of the show - they were to honor him for his perseverance.
When he said that my heart absolutely broke. TEARS
I remembered the flower crown thing !lo! the show was so depressing and dark and people on Tumblr started putting flower crown on the characters 😂😂😂

"I am really attached to his character." Oh yeah. Hugh Dancy's acting is amazing. Will quickly became one of the most sympathetic characters I have ever seen in fiction.
Hugh Dancy is so underrated as an actor. He's amazing, but he got overshadowed by Mads.

So I don't know if anyone else ever commented this, but they keep saying Abigail gutted Nick Boyle because she didn't just stab straight into his stomach. She stabbed his abdomen and pulled the knife upwards to his sternum - which is exactly the cut that we saw in a flashback a few episodes ago when her father taught her how to gut a deer. That is the cut you make to open up the torso so you can remove the offal. Hence...it's still the cut you make to gut someone.
Dawww, need that full length. When Gideon says Hannibal didn't seem too concerned about Will having a seizure his response " I said it was mild. " with his deadpan expression was one of my favorite lines 🤣

Lol I couldn’t decide if hannibals face after was like “bitch” or like “damn he knows I care”, wills just happy to eat non-hospital food.
I mean silkie is a breed of chicken, not a descriptor of the meat, he’s definitely proud of it, but like in an “Angus beef burger” sort of way, not ‘this is the silkiest chicken you’ve ever had’ kind of way.
Also helps to explain the black skin and bones, which silkie chickens r known for.
I feel like they put that line in partly for Hannibal’s fancy ness and partly because black meat is just perfect for the aesthetic of the show.

What I really love about this show is how it's framed on Will's scenes. Like you really feel for Will because you have no idea if what you are seeing is real or not through out most of season 1.
Also I get what you mean about Hannibal. I hate him but I also really like him as a character. I don't want him to die but I do want him to get the shit beat out of him.
Yes! Like throw him in with a cast I hate and let him eat all of them! But it's hard when you actually like some of the people he is torturing!
As much as this show is a gory rollercoaster with blood, tongues and everything, the emotional abuse that Hannibal puts on Will is the most horrifying thing about it. I remember how heartbroken I was after finishing first season, took me 6 years to watch next ones. Hope, you will be able to get there sooner))

I’ve never seen this sort of vehement blame towards Abigail from any reactor before, so it’s kinda strange.
I’d never blame a child for evils forced upon them by their parents. Upbringing is everything-it defines how you see the world. She seemed to be able to tell right from wrong much better than her father, as seen by her guilt over those girls’ deaths, but his teachings still had deep roots in her. We can see this in how Abigail genuinely felt distressed with a dead body because leaving it that was would be “wasting” it. She was taught that at least using the body was better than leaving them be, “honoring” them. We also know that she was aware her father killed these girls to stop himself from killing her, so that’s also her life being threatened. She’s the child of a serial killer. She was always a victim.

To be fair to Jack he probably can't see how bad it is for Will right now because both Will and Hannibal are denying anything is wrong through his psychological evaluations. Remember that Hannibal is rubber-stamping Will's results going back to episode 2 and Will keeps saying he's fine 😛

Trust me, I've watched Hannibal several times and the season 1 finale ALWAYS stresses me out. I'm glad I watched it on Amazon all those years ago. I couldn't imagine the stress of watching the season 1 finale and then having to wait for season 2. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Hannibal is just casually discussing malpractice with Chilton, as you do. I love Chilton though, he's so dumb. He just bumbles into the problems and can't really get out of them. He's by far the dumbest character on the show, but he genuinely thinks he's the smartest, and that arrogance is so amusing, especially when everyone takes digs at him. He wants recognition and hopes to get it from Hannibal here, but Hannibal only thinks he's amusing, annoying, and sometimes useful, and once his usefulness ends he's dinner.
LOL yeah, you're not the only one who admires Will "boxershorts" Graham. Everyone wants their own lil graham cracker. :P Hannibal is the first in line though, so... Several groups I'm in are hella thirsty. Also, baby Hugh Dancy is very Botticelli angel like, he was genuinely voted the prettiest in school, not the prettiest man, the prettiest period.
Jack is aware that his nice and shiny tool is breaking, and wants to keep using that tool for as long as he possibly can. He cares about Will's usefulness, and about Will a tiny bit, but not enough to actually make him stop and get help.
And Will is getting more seizures. There isn't really such a thing as mild seizures. Any seizure means brain damage, and every seizure that happens makes the next one more likely.

Mads Mikkelsen is amazing as Hannibal imo, he can give so much information with the barest of face twitches, he said he played Hannibal as if he was the devil, tempting and evil etc. :)
Hannibal has been painting a very particular picture of Will in his talks with Jack... So whatever his plan is, he's definitely trying to get Will and Jack to mistrust each other. Will even called him out on it in episode 5 or so.

I will never get over how ridiculous and infuriating it is that Jack found Will connecting separate murders and making leaps that don't seem to make sense concerning or suspicious.
Like that's literally the reason Jack was so desperate to get and keep Will in the field. Will says wild shit, connects things nobody else can, and is always right. But his fever clears up for 5 minutes and he connects two cases? That's just a step too far!

Hannibal has grown to care for Will but his plan of framing Will has been in motion since he came into his therapy. And Hannibal is surprised with his sense of humanity and even though he'd like not to go through with his plan, but if he doesn't at this point Will would find out that he is the copycat killer and the Chesapeake Ripper.
As someone who’s had seizures before, I can safely say one of the most impressive things for me is that Willwas able to remain standing. I always wake up on the floor or face down on a desk

Your reactions series of Hannibal is my favorite because you're really engaged emotionally and give great remarks and insights. It's like getting it watch again for the first time. So despite knowing what happens, for someone who has already watched it, it does feel like tapping in the dark again when watching you figuring it out and wondering. To be fair as to why it's taking Will so long to piece it together, his job is literally placing himself in murderers' shoes, he's been gaslit by Hannibal this entire time, and now he feels like he's losing his mind.
Not the same thing, but I was able to recognize in my dreams that my dad was abusive. I couldn't understand that leap consciously, but my subconscious mind knew exactly what was up.
*Also, I love Will. I want to wrap him up in warm blankets, make him some hot cocoa with marshmallows, and give him all the hugs he needs. Will is precious and deserves the world.
If it wasn't obvious, and I can't tell cause this part was cut, Hannibal deliberately sent Will to go after Gideon and save Alana cause he wanted Willl to kill him. It was very clear given Hannibal deliberately placed the keys to the car and the gun right in front of Will before leaving (and imparting that hint that he was worried about Alana for Will) then nonchalantly putting his coat away when he saw Will was gone 😉

Georgia Madchen is refference to another character written by Bryan Fuller, Georgia Lass from Dead Like Me. This Georgia believes she is dead. The other Georgia was actually a dead girl who had to take the job as a Grim Reaper, taking souls of people who is about to die. Both characters are played by the same actress, Ellen Muth.

If you haven't watch Hannibal Rising, it is not the best Lecter film, but the backstory does carry, and it gives a good insight
It's probably late to say this since you've already seen the whole show (really enjoying your reactions so far!) but Hannibal's affection for Will isn't exactly inspired by Will 'losing his mind' and Hannibal being able to relate to that (after all, Hannibal thinks he's the only sane one), but as he tells Bedelia in therapy: He's someone who isn't like him, but can assume his point of view.
Hannibal feels incredibly alienated. Interesting thing ive noticed: when Freddie visits him under pretense of therapy, she tells Hannibal she enjoyed his paper on the effects of social alienation. I believe Hannibal might have been inspired by his own experience, choosing this topic.
Hannibal feels completely alone, and suddenly there's someone who can put himself in Hannibal shoes, who doesn't feel the same way as he does, but can empathise and understand his intent. Day one, Hannibal is downright GIDDY talking to Will.
And he's protective of him in his own messed up way. He kinda helps Will with their investigations (he killed Marissa Schur to show them something about Garret Jacob Hobbs), I believe he's completely honest when he's telling off Jack for using Will, and i also believe that his attempts to humiliate him and make him feel guilty are spurred by his care for Will.
Even here, he doesn't think he's hurting Will, he thinks he's changing him. Completely messed up but he's just so in love
i love that you love alana cuz idk why but most reactors find her annoying but i love her and even more so in the following seasons

I presently don't have any plans on doing full uncut reactions because majority of what makes the edited videos IS majority of what I actually say while watching. Plus with doing two videos a week, it's very time consuming, so adding even more is gonna overwhelm me.

To me sometimes is even worst in my "good" mental days, like I'm scared of the bad days and what that migh do to my mind😔......
