I think the way will maneuvers around hannibal's office is very telling of the relationship between will and hannibal. Like the way hannibal allows will to sit at his desk and literally everywhere else vs how all his other patients are always only allowed in one spot.

When that doctor refers to Will as a pig. You can clearly sees Hannibal's demeanor changed. He laid his left hand down on the table. However he kept his right hand with the knife in it raised the entire time he spoke of Will. I think Hannibal thought about killing him on the spot, for speaking Rude about Will. Then held back yet he still killed him in a more calculated manor to play into everything else.

28:50 I think Will Graham is the most bravest protagonist I've ever seen in a show. He is struggling with his own demons and yet his way out is to help other people (Abigail, Georgia, the kids killing their mums), instead of leaning on others for help and all the while he thinks of himself as something disposable.

You know, re-watching this after knowing Hannibal's gaslighting and manipulation of Will, it's clear that the crime scenes were never "too much" for Will. Heck, he even gaslights the audience into believing that Will was breaking. Will is confident in himself. Even when Will first loses time, he rationally suggests a brain scan after his initial panic which Hannibal talks him out of. Jack is confident in Will too, and he was absolutely correct when he tells Hannibal that Will would always fight his way back to himself. However, Hannibal's entire agenda was isolating Will, and throughout season 1, he tells Jack he is pushing Will, and Will that Jack's pushing him. His first priority is separating Jack from Will so he can have Will all to himself. If Will didn't have encephalitis, Hannibal wouldn't be having such a fun time breaking Will's confidence and self-assurance. In retrospect, Jack really was Will's bedrock and that is why Hannibal was so inclined to break them apart.

Wow I've never thought of this! But I think you're right, Will seems like he knows from the start (of the series) "what kind of crazy he is", and is pretty good at analysing his own mind. His biggest blindspot is always Hannibal.
I think Will would have managed fine with Jack as a rock (if hannibal also didn't stress Jack tf out with Miriam Lass) and perhaps seen hannibal for who he is sooner...

one of my fav underrated scenes from season 1 is during the confrontation between Will and Hannibal at 13:26, when the shadows across their faces resemble the bars of a prison cell. it signifies the 'point of no return' where Will has become complicit in Hannibal's crimes - both just as guilty as each other - and foreshadows a lot about how their relationship plays out as the series progresses 😉

One of the deep easter eggs for this episode is there was a show written by Bryan Fuller (the creator of Hannibal) years ago called Dead Like Me. It was about a girl who died and became a Grim Reaper. The actress who played the main character is the same actress who played the serial killer who thinks she is dead in this episode. So this is the second time the actress has played a "dead girl" (really dead in Dead Like Me and just thinks she is dead in Hannibal) for Bryan Fuller.

"Hey Hannibal, I am having blackouts, bouts of sleepwalking, hallucinations, and can't remember what I did, should I be seeing a specialist?"
    "Nah, it's just stress. Coffee?"
I love how they did the edit from beach to office, at first you think it's just a regular edit. And then Will freaks out.
Will's "It's fine!" sounds so incredibly strained and insincere. Like. He's basically shaking.
I love how Hannibal is always ready to cut a bitch. He has his hand on his scalpel when talking to Will about Abigail killing Nicholas. He had his hand on his scalpel when Jack came to visit him for the first time, he thought he might be getting arrested. He was totally ready to kill.
Hannibal is probably very expensive, but he is also independently rich afaik.
There is nothing straight about that ladder lean, Will. :P
Encephalitis is a brain inflammation. So his brain is more or less being destroyed. The longer it goes untreated the more serious the results, as in, permanent brain damage or coma or death. Hannibal is toying with Will's ability to function, not just doing his job, but also living on his own without some kind of nurse.
Hannibal just casually dropping confidential medical information about Will in a conversation with his boss! "Hey Jack, have I told about the physical and mental illnesses our boy Will is having? Let me update you." Like, that's so many kinds of unethical. But hey, Will and Hannibal are only "having conversations", he's not actually Hannibal's patient, so those pesky professional ethics can't get in the way!
I don't know how many serial killers the FBI actually catches (though the US tends to have more than many other countries) but Jack's unit is supposed to be focusing only on serial killers.
Afaik Cotard's syndrome is a real illness.
Jack telling Will he had an opportunity to quit and he didn't, as if there was some kind of deadline and now they've passed and he can't quit anymore. And like you said, as if he didn't bully him into staying.
Hannibal in his murder onesie! Murder onesie! (because he doesn't want his pretty suits to get dirty, but he also needs his victims to know he dresses very well. :P )
This show is very good in repeating things in a new context, or mirroring shots, music callbacks, lines etc. More in later seasons especially, but it's something to look out for. :)

"Feeling like a prisoner in your own mind" I agree. I don't know how people can laugh at and mock mental illness. I don't find it funny in the slightest, and I don't like the word 'depressed' being thrown about so casually by many people. Depression is a legitimate mental illness that I find to be terrifying. A person's mind is arguably the most important thing that they possess, and to not be able to control it is just horrifying.

At any given time, there is estimated to be between 100-200 active serial killers, per year, operating in the US alone. It doesn’t seem like that many though because most aren’t actually detected or caught; especially when their victims are being disposed of in water, remote regions where the corpse is eaten by wild animals, or burned and scattered. A large percentage of missing persons are actually thought to possibly be serial killer victims, their bodies never recovered. Therefore the serial killer goes completely undetected. It’s a rabbit hole I went down after watching the docuseries Missing 411. And let me tell you, it’s horrifying. How someone could just disappear off the face of the earth like that. And in reality, they were killed by an undisclosed, unknown serial killer and no one will ever know the real truth, and their killer just goes on killing undetected, until their own life ends, never facing punishment for the crimes they’ve committed. The family? No closure. The victim? No justice. The killer? No stopping them. Yeah, sleep well now that you have that knowledge. 😂

Hannibal used to be a surgeon (as stated in earlier episodes), which is where most of the funds probably came from. In Virginia (which is where they live), the average therapist makes $30.36 an hour, and around $63,000 in a year. So it's safe to assume that most of his funds must come from his previous job as a surgeon, or that he is a specialized therapist, which would explain why he makes so much. There is one other reason, but it's a spoiler, so please don't comment it!

What you said at 5:15 is SO TRUE LOL! I always tell my friends this when watching stuff because they always ask “why wouldn’t you just do or say this instead?”, especially in horror movies haha! Like if the characters were normal and did what was best for themselves and others in that moment or didn’t drastically escalate things, there would be no media for us to consume! It wouldn’t get exciting and over the top, but I think it’s just human nature for us as the viewer to want to see certain characters stay safe and unharmed. So naturally you just think to yourself “WHHHYYYY?!”

People having mental illness because they don't know who or what they are. Always questioning themselves and their roles and their existence. We don't exist first of all. Yes, you and I don't exist. Nothing exists, everything is just a dream. The word existence comes from the latin sistere, which means "To stand out" To stand out from what? What is the only constant that never changes in our lives? Our consciousness, awareness, however you wanna call it. Awareness is the only constant, it's the background from which everything is produced. Think about it... Has anyone in history ever experienced an experience outside their awareness? nope. You can't even do science without it... You cannot do anything without it. So we stand out from the background of awareness, we exist. Take every thought, feeling, sensation, motive, dream, everything from your mind... what is left? Pure untainted awareness... that's who you really are. The person is just an illusion. We're not separate... we share the same being and existence, even with animals and bacteria. So if you want a healthy mind, follow what I just gave you! Works better than any therapy or drug. When you realize that, you'll be unstoppable. We're pure untainted awareness.

There are so many character and plot similarities between Harry Potter and Hannibal.
    1.Dumbledore & Jack Crawford:
Jack doesn't have so much role in Hannibal since Will isn't a kid in
need of a parent. However, both of them have been playing a role of father in their lives but both of them don't actually care what happens to them like a parent would. Dumbledore knows Harry needs to die and Jack is compromising Will's mental state.
    2.Hermoine & Alana:
Both are really sweet, smart characters. And Will kissing Alana in Season 1,when he was having a near breakdown and needed someone is very reminiscent of the dance sequence in the Deathly Hallows between Harry & Hermoine.
    3. Cedric & Beverly:
Harry and Will blame themselves for the deaths of their friends who were in the situation because of them. A very quick and impactful death.
    4. Sirius Black & Abigail (Scene):
The one person who they considered family, killed right infront of them and all they could was watch.
    5. Ginny & Molly:
Both partners are very brief in their lives. Harry despite being a teen is never shown to be too passionate neither is Will.
    6. Albus & Wally:
Even though Harry and Will want to be compassionate fathers, they really just aren't.
    7. Harry & Will:
They are practically same people, only Will has aged and is more mature. They both had absent parents. They aren't very romantic characters, behave abnormally patient in a nightmarish situation and want to find themselves more than anything. They both don't want power or praise.
    8. Voldemort & Hannibal:
Narcissistic and power-hungry characters who have a God-complex or at the least see themselves as above humanity. However, I do feel Hannibal is more curious than Tom and that he is in love with Will, but that doesn't stop him from trying to kill Will. So idk.
